Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

It was a dark day in Balefire... the Five Dons of Balefire had started a war against the lords... shooting for complete control over East Balefire. They had apparently been amassing a massive horde of stone golems... and now they were loose on the city and slaughtering everyone not part of any of the Don's gangs. Worst of all... he had just found out his wife wanted to go into the combat, but he had just found out she was pregnant... so he refused, knocked her out, and had her tied down to a bed inside the main SIN HQ in central Balefire.

Now it was his turn to save Balefire, he had reports of Hammerfist protecting the south, which meant fortifying Central Balefire would be SIN's main priority... so Bloodeye would take Northern Balefire alone. He saw the fires... the people screaming, all running for the protection of SIN and the Balefire guard. Bloodeye felt the people swarm around him... and soon only Golems and a Maug were left. He rolled his stone shoulders as the first golem attacked... swinging his arm at Bloodeye's head, only to receive a single stone crumbling punch, sending it to the ground and into pieces.

Bloodeye looked at the other golems and shouted, "Come on!" The noise turned their stone heads, the entire host of golems let out a bloodcurdling shout as they charged the half-maug. With that, Bloodeye stiffened his guard, bringing his arms up to guard his stomach and jaw, charging in head first to destroy his foes... it was time to show Balefire just how important SIN is.

At the sight of possible danger he could fend off, Eggface dashed into Balefire to see what the explosive sound effects and intense northern flames signified. He slipped through fire and flames and ascended a hill and found himself in northern Balefire. As he arrived on the scene, Angelo was surprised and terrified to see a battle between stone golems and a single... dwarf thing. The cursed human was inches away from soiling his own trousers when a huge stone fist came down just before he could roll out of the way. Bits of dirt and rock flew up from the impact, and Eggface threw up his shield to at least prevent the earth from intruding into his vision.

"Egg Missile!" he incanted as he threw his eggshell-colored hand forward. A goopy egg yolk materialized there before it flung itself through the air and landed perfectly in the eye of the stone golem that had attempted to scramble the curse-bearer. With a debatable level of stupidity, Eggface drew his trusty longsword from its leather sheath and heroically pounced from his position towards the chiseled chest of the stone golem. He attempted to impale it, though he did little more than chip away at both blade and brick. With the failure under his belt, Eggface hit the ground and nearly exploded in fear from hearing the roaring sounds produced by the stone golem he attacked. The golem wiped the egg from its vision with a painful looking scrape before it turned its attention to the yellow eye below.

"Nope nope nope!" Eggface chanted before falling onto his backside and crawling in reverse on all fours in an effort to avoid the inevitable second swing from the assailant. Just then, the mighty strike came for him. He spread his legs to avoid the impact in between.

"What was I thinking by coming here?" Eggface thought to himself. It would either be a very long night, or a very short one.

Bloodeye sent another powerful blow into the stomach of a golem, cracking the stone stomach, but not enough to destroy it. The golem retaliated with a punch to Bloodeye's jaw, but Bloodeye brought his arm up and blocked it, knocking the golem's arm aside to deliver a short uppercut into the golem's jaw. The golem, now staggering back, received Bloodeye's finishing blow, Bloodeye jumped into the air, putting his fists above his head, and at the last moment he slammed them down onto the golem's head, destroying it and the enchantments keeping it together.

Bloodeye shrugged off the rubble as more golems charged him... but he saw someone behind them, a pale man trying to fight a golem with a sword... stupidity at it's finest, but at least he was trying to help. Bloodeye lowered his shoulder... and charged, quite literally knocking his foes to the ground as he charged over them, using his momentum to slam the golem into the wall... and proceeded to pummel it into pebbles. He looked down at the man as a golem approached him from behind... he sent his elbow back into it's chest, swinging around to deliver a hook, knocking it's blocky head straight off. Bloodeye cracked his neck as he spoke, "Stay close civilian. I am Detective Morrison Granitefist, aka The Bloodeye, a member of the Balefire Guard, Special Investigations Unit, SIN for short." He readjusted his eyepatch, looking at the golems lumbering towards them. He raised his fists back to a stiff frontal guard... he was ready to defend this citizen from these foes.

If it were not for the big scary whatever's invitation to salvation, the egg would surely have scrambled out of fear alone. Quickly, Eggface scrambled to his feet and prepared to follow the large detective to... safety, hopefully. He was a member of the Balefire Guard, Special Investigations Unit, SIN for short, because Unit obviously started with an N.

The egg accepted his help with gratitude, as there were not many other options (at least, options that involved him not getting hurt, injured, or dead) in this situation. He got in easy enough, sure, but now that he had angered the stone golems half as much as he had angered himself, an escape would be much more challenging. A simple run-for-your-life-and-hope-you-don't-urinate approach was out of the question at this point, and not just because Eggface had already urinated a bit, but rather there had formed an imaginary barrier that Eggface could not pass through without being sacked by the nearest boulder.

"You can uh, drop me off at the nearest safehouse thing," Eggface suggested to his new best friend. With that, he proceeded to throw out an Egg Missile at the eye of whichever stone golem seemed to be the hungriest for a greasy Eggs Benedict breakfast. Angelo drew forth his shield and sword and prepared for the next assault; he would need all the protection he could get.

There were very few things in Balefire that would make a man heroic. Of these, butchering a tavern full of people in anger - and not just once - was not one of these. In fact, the Butcher of Balefire was about as far from heroic as any man could be. He was a mercenary with a strong sadistic side and a penchant for causing as much pain and suffering in as short a time as he possibly could. However, despite his numerous violations of the law, he was welcomed in Balefire (albeit more out of fear than as a token of respect) into several prominent institutions. One of these was the Red Hall.

The Red Hall was a gambling and drinking establishment, one that often served as the meeting place for illegal ventures and less-than-savory activities. Souillé had personally been with every girl that worked the place, some of them several times, and he had enjoyed far more than his fair share of some of the strongest brews in Imythess therein. However, a stone golem suddenly deciding that it wanted to crush everything in sight was not something that would bode well for such an establishment. As such, when one crashed through the front of the building and effectively ended Souillé’s brief respite from working after his most recent job, he was none too pleased. The stone golem crumbled into dust soon after, as though it had been struck with the full force that could be mustered by one of their own kind.

When he stepped out into the street, he saw a battle in full swing. He’d thought perhaps there was some kind of riot and an earthquake going on at the same time. It wouldn’t have been the first time that such a thing had happened, and it definitely would not have been the last. However, now that he saw what was going on, he was extremely displeased. Not only did a small army of stone golems wreaking havoc on his favorite city mean bad business for the Red Hall, which was now half-destroyed because of their antics, such a thing meant that his brief respite was going to be put on hold - and he did not like to be interrupted when he was resting after having slain a gang of fallen angels that still had quite a bit of power left over from their days as fully fledged paladins.

As it was, he still had a headache - and it took a lot for Souillé to get a headache.

Snarling as two of them came near, he decided that it was time for him to enter the battle. He let loose a volley of massive chains from deep below the ground, ensnaring the pair with the Dancing Chains. They struggled against them, roaring and flailing, yet they were held fast. So was he, of course, but he did not need to move but a little in order to cast - and cast he did. The first attack he sent out was the Damnation spell; the golem to his right burst into black flames, and its roars of anger quickly became monstrously animalistic screams of agony.

Then he cast Quench-A-Scream upon the other one. Its own wails were added to those of the black-burning golem, and the cacophony was enough to draw the attention of half of Balefire. If people hadn’t known that something extremely unnatural was going on before, they most certainly did now. The screams kept up until the black flames had almost completely melted the stone golem on Souillé’s right, and the stone golem on the left finally began to suffocate. He hadn’t thought either spell would work, actually; he was rather surprised when they did. But then Souillé let the chains fall, drew his scythe, and ended the existence of the stone golem as it fell to its knees.

He spat upon the rubble that remained, and then looked up as he saw a rather strange pair of fighters coming toward him. Well, this would certainly be interesting…

Bloodeye kept the golems at bay with a constant barrage of punches... but soon he felt to tired to even keep his arms up in a stiff guard, he held it loosely as he started to punch a way through the forces. After a few moments he finally broke free of the golems, leading the pale man towards a relatively clear street. He stopped before a rather heavily scarred man, looking down at the remains of the golems. Bloodeye once again brought his fists up, "I suggest you follow me civilian. There are to many golems and we have no idea how they work exactly. We are going to SIN Central Headquarters south of here, once I drop you two off I will return here to destroy these foes."

He took another gander at the burnt rubble of the golems and decided to make a decision, "... Unless you two are willing to cover my back during this fight? SIN puts a large amount of coin aside for the... 'Bloodeye Destruction' fund. I could give each of you... a hundred silver coins each. Just to watch my back... I'm willing to do all of the heavy lifting." With that done he heard a shriek that caused him scream in pain, the shriek was so high pitched and loud that he thought his ear drums might rupture... but with a loud thud it stopped.

What stood before them was a golem made of steel, bronze, brass, and stone, it's eyes were two rubies that gave off an otherworldly light. He let out another screech, causing every golem in the area to start converging on their location. Bloodeye raised his arms and forced them into a rough guard, "Looks like we found what's leading them... now to fight our way to it."

To low for them to hear, the golem spoke, "Copying Life Forms... Begin Sequence."

A new, slightly terrifying looking man appeared. He appeared to be fighting the golems, and therefore an ally by lack of association, but the egg was still afraid of him and likely to keep his distance. Then again, everything else was trying to kill him.... What was one more?

Eggface saw the leader golem, one with rubies for eyes and mixes of metals for skin. Everything else in the area terrified him; this absolutely horrified him, as did the screech it emitted to summon all those in its gang of boulder-esque behemoths. Golems began to flank the area from every possible angle, assuming above and below were disregarded. Angelo turned his attention to the largest golem.

"I'm going to die today," he determined. "Egg Missile!" He flung an egg from the tip of his sword, sending yolky ick from his blade to the ruby that was the eye of the leader. Fast stomping sounds came into play, and Eggface threw himself out of the way of the incoming stone golem. It was then his life flashed before his eyes. He thought of his mother; he cried.

Souillé had no intention of going anywhere near whatever headquarters it was that this rock-looking fellow was babbling on about. As far as he was concerned, by the look of the man, he was the same as these cretins that had interrupted his vacation. But even if he had, he didn’t have much time. As the egg-thing shouted something and then hurled what looked like a glob of yoke at one of the oncoming golems, said golem tried to step on the egg. Souillé smirked.

He’s about to be scrambled, the soul-turned-flesh thought to himself.

He had no time for any other musings. He scowled again as three golems came upon him - two from the left and one from the right. The one on the right threw a mighty fist at him, yet he was having no part of that. He leapt back quickly and sliced a portion of the monster’s arm off, a horrible screeching resounding from anything-but-still air. The monster leapt back, and Souillé called forth a massive wall of ooze between himself and the other two golems. They stuck fast in the goo, as it rose quickly to encompass them, though not in full.

In full or not, it was more than adequate enough to give Souillé time to respond to the other four golems that were approaching. He sent out an easily cast spell toward them, yet one that was extremely effective - and one that was quite fitting for a man such as Souillé. A wave of fear swept out, penetrating even the thick stones of the golems. They slowed in their tracks, wondering what was causing their fear. Another wall of ooze went up, this one as a barrier to their advancement. As the first was caught in it, the other two stopped in their tracks. They feared to go on, and well they should.

But Souillé was exhausted. He needed to start killing these things, lest the ambient mana become unmanageable. Snarling, he rolled to avoid another strike from the one-armed golem to his right. Then he leapt atop it and drove his scythe deep into the back of its skull. As it roared and flailed in pain and rage, Souillé wrenched his scythe from the golem’s skull and severed its head. Using the screeching blade of his scythe to slow his descent for an easy landing, he slid down the back of the golem - cutting it in two in the process.

As he turned, the golems initially to his left finally broke through the wall of ooze that had held them fast. But they were slowed, and they would be easy kills. He rushed forward, slicing deep into their legs as he passed beneath them, and then leapt atop their backs to finish them off. When he was done, there was only dust and rubble flying about. He turned now toward the one in the distance that was just starting to break through his wall of ooze; as he walked forward, a menacing visage donned, the other golems realized the source of their fear and began slowly to backpedal.

Leaping forward as the first golem fell, Souillé came down hard with a savage blow against the golem. He all but obliterated its skull with his vicious attack, and he ripped the rest of the golem apart as he made his way through the hole in his wall of ooze that it had created. That wall collapsed just as Souillé came out on the other side of it, and seeing him approaching, the two golems turned away to seek another target.

“Pitiful,” he muttered.

This was his enemy? There were perhaps a dozen more coming after them, and he was quite certain that there were others, but these golems did not seem to be worth the limestone and brick of which they seemed to be comprised. Oh, yes, they were quite pitiful indeed. When that spell wore off, the two golems would be back - and they would be felled just as quickly and easily as those that were about to be destroyed by Souillé and those that fought near him.

But that massive golem, however - he was another matter entirely. Souillé dodged an attack from him and retaliated with a screeching blow. Although some stones were cast aside, the wound seemed to heal almost immediately of its own accord. The attack had done almost no damage. Souillé grinned.

“Finally,” he said, “a challenge.”

He readied his scythe for the assault. This was going to be fun.

Bloodeye growled as he rammed into another golem, using his stone arms to knock them away. His jabs were slow, but they packed enough power to drive them away. He began to duck and weave his entire body, sending his upper body into figure eights to dodge the clumsy punches, while at the same time sending out sharp hooks the cracked and destroyed the golems. He stopped to catch his breath... the golems weren't coming as fast, they were being cautious... they were getting smarter. He saw the leader of the group fighting the odd man that refused to join up with them, but he seemed unhurt from the man's blade.

Bloodeye saw another golem charging his egg-themed companion... and charged over, using both arms to tackle the brute, lift him up into a bear hug... and crushed him in his arms. He used the half-broken remains to throw at the other golems as he spoke, "On your feet man! If you can't fight back then stick to my back! Tell me when foes are approaching my sides and rear, I'll get us through this on my honor as a detective of SIN." Honor... that word didn't really fit him, but soon all of the golems backed off... letting their leader fight alone.

The golem leader spoke the Souille, "All life form data copied." With that it's arms changed to a similar dark blue to Bloodeye's arms. It's hands began to spark as they became covered in electricity. He let out a single spell... the same spell that summoned chains to stop one of his own golems, but he used one of his golem minions as a familiar, chaining it to the ground along with Bloodeye. Bloodeye had been lucky though, the chains grabbed his arms... he felt them pull him towards the ground, but he fought back, his arms were highly resistant to magic and he could break free given some time.

He looked to his ally as the golem leader began fighting Souille using a combination of Souille's speed and Bloodeye's crushing power, "Look, just follow my advice. The golems have weak joints, you don't need power to break them. Just stay calm, let them charge you... side step and just place your sword at their knees. Let their own power and wait destroy them, just remember, dodge and place the sword at knee height. Trust me, I'm a professional." With that he started to slowly pull his arms free... he just hoped the little egg head could survive a few minutes without him.

The golem leader spoke to Souille again, using Bloodeye's voice, "Just follow my advice boy. Give up now and die. Die die die die die." The last few words were in Souille's voice, but his fighting style was still punishing, sending short upper cuts and constantly pushing Souille with short charges and straight jabs, once he started to mix in hooks he truly had a varied arsenal of punches to use against the man.
