Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

This is a short story written for the Perspectives GRP.

Where others saw an offbeat clown forged by vulgar deities on a mundane evening above the clouds, Ord Montcrieff saw an unhatched wise man overflowing with untapped brilliance and near-infinite acumen. None could say for sure whether or not Ord was a mad man, but it could be said for sure that his efforts to extract the sapience from the head of Pessach Camblewick were completely and totally successful.

Ord met Pessach during the days when he wore an eyepatch and long red hair, in a tavern known to most as The Crooked Diana, and to others as simply that one tavern. As Ord awaited his spirits from the creaky wooden stool, a familiar hardened voice caught his attention.

"Did you really think that you could just waltz into my tavern with that little grin on your stupid face?" it hissed at another man, deeper in the belly of Diana.

"Who's he causing trouble for this time?" wondered Ord. The voice was undeniably that of an infamous local man by the name of Igneous Green, though Ord had several other names for him: Big Ugly, Ignorant Green, Green Tooth, and even the simple Stupid, to name a few.

"Please sir, I'm just trying to enjoy my meal," responded the stranger. Ord found this very believable, as Green often tried to start scraps where none were needed. His criminal record contained scant offenses, though the few that existed were all assault or some variant thereof.

Green threatened, "You're not going to be enjoying anything but a broken nose while I'm here!" He soon wrestled the stranger to his feet and then the air, where he hung by his vest collar. The impressive foot-and-a-half height difference was evident, and it appeared that the battle would be very one-sided.

"Step down, Green!" hissed Ord as he promptly got to his feet. His rather bulging muscles seemed to expand as he stood, making him appear more threatening than before-- though the longsword on his belt did little to downplay his stoutness.

"This ain't none of your concern, Montcrieff!" the assailant barked.

"Don't make it a concern, or it will be," Ord cautioned. The smaller man was promptly dropped, and Green did not say another word as he left the building. It could be said that Igneous and Ord had a bit of a history, and it could also be said that Ord tended to have the edge in their situations. Immediately, Ord made his way to the table of the victim.

"Are you alright?" he asked the smaller man.

"Oh, y-yeah, just fine," he responded. "I could've taken him, it's just that something made him want to come after me."

Ord told him, "He has a sword in his ass. He pulls it out every now and then, but it always grows back." Though the line could be interpreted either metaphorically or jokingly, the smaller man took it in jest and laughed along.

"Thanks for the help," the stranger expressed.

"No problem," Ord responded. "Ord Montcrieff, at your service." He extended his hand.

The other man took the hand and introduced, "Pessach Camblewick. It's a pleasure." Ord noticed the knapsack kept by this man had fallen open and exposed its contents: mostly books, though a few basic survival items were also among the library.

"A man of knowledge, I see," Ord pointed out.

"If knowledge is what you can call it." That was the first conversation the two ever had, and many more would follow. The two stayed in touch, until eventually Ord recruited Pessach to join him on one of his many adventures for an extended period: sailing the Open Moonsea. Pessach agreed.

Ord and Pessach sailed the seas aboard The Unwavering Urchin, a rather pathetic but still large sailboat that could house the two of them in a cramped space. Though Pessach was green and inexperienced, he eventually caught on to the life of a sailor. For a year the two traveled together, mapping islands and documenting wildlife. It was a win-win arrangement, for Pessach was able to gain knowledge of the marine life and the area (and gain a much more lean build on account of his new, healthy diet), and Ord got a one man crew, a fairly small assistant who made sharing a cramped space below deck just a bit easier.

In their year of shared experience, Ord managed to improve his lute skills, thanks to the inspiration and lack of other means of entertainment. Pessach, on the other hand, gained a new lifestyle entirely. He seemed to absorb everything that happened on their travels, becoming wiser with each passing day. Ord watched his ally's focus grow stronger and stronger to the point where he himself would not dare to combat his friend's power in an antagonistic respect-- though the two would occasionally spar, Ord with his longsword and Pessach with his scythe. The two were on an even plane.

Pessach came to view Ord as a mentor, best friend, and later on, a corpse.

Ord and Pessach had been on the ocean for seventeen months, and it was midsummer at the time. As Ord navigated the ship, Pessach kept watch. It was at this point in their travels when the two decided to end their journey for more than the occasional week-long stay on land to clean the boat, taste a more filling meal, and gather supplies for another traverse of the waters.

Pessach noticed and alerted Ord of a large pirate ship off the starboard. Though they had a deficit of items to give, this did not stop the pirate ship from pulling up alongside them and taking them onto their ship to hold them captive. The pirates, under the leadership of a grimy and disgusting man who went by Captain Duga, forced the pair to join the crew or face death. They agreed to join the crew, though they harbored ill feelings for their captain.

Since Pessach was green at the time of his employment by Ord, and his only experience was on that sailboat, the crew would often criticize him and torment him. One particular instance saw Ord coming to his friend's aid in the same way he did when the two met. Ord confronted the three pirates known to them as Biggs, Harvey, and Griel. The three did not back down, and it was Ord who threw the first punch. Pessach promptly joined in and proceeded to swing his fists at the others. Other crew members cheered and hollered, before the fight was abruptly ended. Captain Duga stealthily entered the fight and slit Ord's throat from behind, dropping him to the floor of the boat as punishment for his supposed "starting a scrap." An enraged Pessach promptly attacked the captain, ripping the sword from his hands and chopping his head clean off.

As the crew's customs went, this was an overthrow of the current captain. Pessach was instantly declared captain, although many crewmen held a certain disdain for him. The floramancer commanded the crew to return to Taras with the body of Ord, for both a funeral and for the hanging of Biggs, Harvey, and Griel. It goes without saying that Biggs jumped ship the following night, while Harvey would later be pardoned on account of his loyalty to Pessach. Griel would be the only one to actually be hanged.

Ord's funeral was held in a small church in Kellen, where sixteen people attended, including Ord's sister, mother, and nephew. Pessach wept for his friend who had taught him so much, though he did manage to gather the words to say about him.

"Ord changed me in a way that no other person could. He protected me like a brother, taught me like a mentor, and treated me like an equal. There's no other person in the world I could say as much for, and Ord is the closest friend I ever had. If I could bring him back, I would in a heartbeat, even though he'd probably want to stay where he is now. I can't thank you enough for what you did for me, Ord." Pessach paused to take a handkerchief to his eye. "You changed me, and in ways that no one else ever could. I never would have been able to repay you for that."
