| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The Temple of the Moon is a sanctuary for Lunar Disciples and others who align with the moon. It lies on an island in the Moonsea, far from established trading routes or inhabited lands, though it is in part the magic of the Temple that discourages civilization from settling nearby. It is not all that far from the shore, however. One of the most notable features of the Temple and the nearby area is the eternal night. Unknown to all but a select few, mostly experienced Lunar Disciples, this eternal night is maintained through the efforts of a group of seven powerful Lunar Disciples who maintain a permanent Lunar Totality in the area. For the expert Lunar Disciple (level 4 or 5), the Temple is a couple of hours from the shore via the Feathered Touch ability. Other flying people and creatures are able to reach the Temple by flight, but the Temple is protected against unwanted visitors. For those unable to reach the Temple by air, a small ship sails from the Temple to a designated location on the shore on the night of every full moon. The ship will also sail to the shore if a Blood Moon is visible, regardless of the current phase of the moon. With the exception of master Lunar Disciples who are known to those living at and protecting the Temple, everyone who arrives at the Temple lands or debarks in the docks area. This area has a dock which can accommodate two moderate sized vessels, though one of the 'spaces' is reserved for the Temple's ship. The area also has enough open space for those flying in to land and take off without difficulty. The nearest structure to the docks area is a dormitory building. This structure can house up to a dozen people and is reserved for visitors and new arrivals. It is also the only building on the site that is lit by torches, but only when the building is occupied by a visitor without darkvision. Nearby is an outdoor training area, designed for training with weapons. It also has provisions for the training of some of the Lunar Disciple abilities, including a six foot deep pit, which serves as a (relatively) low stress place to practice the Feathered Steps and Feathered Touch abilities. Behind the training area is the beginning of a path that leads up a steep, rocky slope. Aside from this path, the slope is very difficult and dangerous to climb. At the end of the path is the Temple's main building, a large, rectangular structure with pillars running around the outside (along the lines of the Parthenon in Athens). This structure is clearly visible from the area below. A pair of large arched doors is at the entrance to this building, and when the moon is visible, these are almost always open. There are also circular openings in the roof of the building to let moonlight in. On one side of this structure, between the main wall and the row of pillars, is a staircase leading down to the structure's basement. This basement is the primary living quarters for most people who live here or visit frequently. The only lighting in this area is provided by magical disks on the walls. The light level these radiate can be changed by touching them and is clearly visible by the shape of the part of the disk that is illuminated, which is the shape of the moon in one of its phases, ranging from new moon (completely off) through crescent, quarter, gibbous, to full moon (completely on). These do not provide bright light, but it is enough for the average person to navigate. Within this basement are bedrooms, kitchens, dining areas, meeting areas, and a large common area. Behind this building is a large, domed structure, which forms the inner sanctum of the Temple of the Moon. There is no path to walk here, and climbing to it from the main building is very difficult, as there is a deep chasm between the two structures that is about thirty feet wide at the narrowest point. The only way to cross the gap is with flight, which all master Lunar Disciples are capable of in the form of the Feathered Steps/Touch ability. At the top of this structure is a set of mirrors and lenses that projects an image of the moon, as it is visible in the sky, onto the building's floor. This makes for a dramatic appearance when Blood Moon takes effect. It is in this building and in this room that the seven Lunar Disciples who maintain the permanent Lunar Totality over the area work their magic to do so. Like the main building, this structure also has a basement with rooms inside. These rooms include sleeping quarters for the seven who maintain the darkness, training masters, and a few others. Only a select few make it down there, so what else is under there is unknown. |
