Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

"Oh, it's wonderful!"

The shopkeeper beamed widely at the praise, rubbing her hands together and nodding in agreement. "Indeed it is! Aurora drakes make for wonderful pets, especially for young ladies such as yourself. They're quite easy to take care of and are easy to train. This one is already housetrained."

Eliza smiled and reached out, tentatively tracing her gloved hand down the drake's side. Instead of the scales one would expect on such a creature, its entire body was covered in a layer of soft, downy feathers. The reptile looked at her with wide, round eyes and made the most adorable cooing noise deep in its throat before darting upwards, its four wings flapping so quickly they were a blur. Its head shot forward and it immediately started to lick her face, its tongue warm and pebbly. The girl laughed softly and raised both hands to push it away, but not before it had managed to get several licks in. "She's very friendly! How much do you want for her?"

The price that the pet store owner rattled off wasn't exorbitant, but it was certainly a hefty amount of gold. Eliza raised an eyebrow and stared at the woman, her incredulity plain on her features. The shopkeeper was still grinning, but there was a greedy gleam in her eyes. "It's a fair price, m'dear. Aurora drakes are quite rare, especially here in Balefire. Unless you plan on traveling to Striberg in the near future you won't find a better deal."

The girl felt a pang shoot through her at the casual mention of her hometown, but refused to let it show on her face. It was true that she was starved for companionship, but she wasn't so desperate as to squander the entire remainder of her dwindling funds on a pet. She had only managed to take a limited amount of cash and jewelry when she had fled her father's manor in the iceberg metropolis and had no idea how long the wealth would last her, especially if she spent it all on frivolous things like pets. Still... "You must think me a fool if you believe I'll pay that much."

The look on the older woman's face soured, and what followed was a truly epic bout of haggling. By the time they were finished Eliza had managed to talk her down to nearly half of the original quote, plus a collar and leash so that the aurora drake wouldn't flit away the instant they walked out the door. The girl pulled her purse from her belt and clumsily counted out the proper number of coins, her thick fingers fumbling with the small objects. The shopkeeper might have been put out by the decrease in price, but she still snatched up the money like her life depended on it.

Eliza hooked the collar around the drake's neck and attached the leash to her belt, settled it on her shoulder before leaving the store, watching the small creature with a huge smile. She had not planned on purchasing a pet during her stay in Balefire. In fact, she was only in the shadowy city because it seemed like the best place in Imythess to lay low for a while. The entire metropolis was rumored to be a nest of crime and villainy, which is why she hoped it was the last place her father's guards would be searching for her. It had taken a few days to adjust to a city where the sun never shined, but she had finally gotten used to it.

Even though the massive magical clock in the center of the town indicated that it was the middle of the night, the streets were bustling. Eliza started down the road, heading for the small inn where she had rooms purchased for the next week. The aurora drake stayed on her shoulder, its head jerking back and forth as it took in the sights of the city and gurgling. She was so focused on the animal that she bumped straight into one of the countless scrawny waifs that called Balefire home. It took her a few more steps to realize that something felt off about the weight of her belt. She looked down in horror and saw that the drawstring of her purse had been cleanly severed.

"Stop! Thief!" Eliza pivoted and glared after the pickpocket, who was still nonchalantly strolling down the street. All of that changed with her shouted accusation. The diminutive figure took off like a bolt from a crossbow, snaking through the crowd of pedestrians and darting around a corner. The former noble took off after him with a scowl, the sudden movement dislodging the aurora drake. It followed along behind her, still attached to her waist by its leash and making soft chirps of distress and flapping its wings to stay aloft.
