Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

((My posts might be a little short Umbra. I’m sorry about that in advance))

Raina wasn’t sure how to approach these kinds of things, but she really needed a win right now and this seemed the perfect win. She just needed someone to help her. She had found a travellers inn close to Norwood village and she sidled in the door, hoping to find someone who she could recruit to her little mission.

She went up to the counter and ordered something to eat, an apple, just something. She was brought the apple and traded the coins. She used the moment to scan the room. Apparently she needn’t have bothered. There appeared to be no one really in the inn. An old couple was drinking in the corner and a worn down woman was sulking by the fire. Raina was about to give up when her eyes came to rest on a woman who looked strong and able. She had long black hair and grey eyes that were set off by a silvery tint in her skin.

Raina shyly approached her and cleared her throat. “Um hi, my name is Raina and I was wondering if you’d like to help me rescue a horse.” Wow that seemed stupid saying it out loud. She hoped the woman would agree though otherwise she’d need to figure out a way to handle it on her own.

The day was warm but weary for some reason as a woman with dark hair and grey eyes walked across the bridges of the elven tree city. She kept her hood up from her cloak as she walked through the city, purposely avoiding the eyes of the elves that walked around her keeping her voice low and polite as she moved around them.

She paused as she looked over at a building. It was a traveler’s inn, one of the few places that outsiders could be and not fear judgment or rebuke. She silently walked in and pulled down her hood revealing her silvery tan skin. She moved to the counter with the grace of a dancer, ever knowing that most elves looked down on those who did not have some form of grace and proper. The Innkeeper looked her over, she silently held her breath as she wondered if the elf, with their observation skills, noticed the two small silver horns on her head that were now probably sticking out of her braided hair but he seemed to show no observation on this. “What would you like?” the weathered elf asked.

“A Cider and some bread, please.” She said calmly and respectfully giving a bow with her head. “Sounds good. Two silver and pence.” She handed him the money and then took her drink and sat down. The inn was fairly empty today, then again the time was early afternoon and most had already eaten by now.

She sat down as her bread was served and began to eat it as she looked around. This was an interesting world full of interesting people and she had begun to feel like this place was home. She paused as she caught movement in the door; a young human woman who seemed rather meek in her opinion was walking in rather slow.

Umbra watched as she made her way to the counter then returned to her drink continuing her musing changing it from the intrigue of this place to the people of this world. First she had met the elf and now was in an elvish city. She thought of Avennain, the leader of the Keepers and of Malisaro the cursed drow. She thought long of them and of others. Of Zenith and Tanya, of Blade and Rowan. Of Rhea and others.

She was pulled out of her musings by a cough and turned to look at the young woman she had noticed coming in. “Um hi, my name is Raina and I was wondering if you’d like to help me rescue a horse.” The woman asked. Umbra was caught somewhat off guard by this and tilted her head. The woman’s eyes showed uncertainty about the question she had asked and Umbra wondered exactly what was up.

“I’m sorry Ms… Raina was it? What is this about a horse now?” she asked confused. She did not quite understand what the point of saving a horse was but if it was important to this Raina then it most certainly had to be dealt with. The only question in her mind was what type of person was this Raina to begin with?

In any case Umbra continued to watch the woman with her silver almond shaped eyes as she pondered these things, eventually, she knew, the answers would come. They always did.

(I had this all written then the cat erased it all. Sorry if it’s kinda crappy I’m sick of rewriting this)

Raina pulled out a seat and slowly lowered herself into it. She wasn’t really sure how stupid she would sound but Raina just felt the need to help the poor thing. Raina rubbed her arms and pushed back a piece of her long brown hair. Raina’s skin was tanned from being out in the sun and her clothing was worn since she hadn’t had a chance to buy anything new.

“I was sort of wandering through Norwood when I came across some traders not too far from here. They we’re fighting so I kept my distance…”

Raina was crouched in the bushes and stared through a break in the leaves, spying on the two older traders yelling at each other. She strained to hear them but they were speaking in another language and gesturing wildly at each other. She caught something in the common tongue about seeing the goods but she couldn’t really be sure.

She saw that they had a cart, covered by animal hide to keep the rain off their wares. She figured they had to be someone successful traders if they were able to afford something like that. The horses that pulled the cart seemed steadfast and sturdy. They hung their heads now, clearly used to the yelling. Raina thought she could see movement around the other side of the cart but she couldn’t be sure.

The fat trader moved around to the other side of the cart and pulled out a type of horse Raina had never seen before. She gasped and quickly clapped her hands over her mouth. It was a large horse with a shaggy white coat, spotted in black and brown, it looked like a leopard. However on closer look the horse’s spine and ribs pressed through its taunt skin. Its coat was matted and there was mud caked onto its legs. The horse was also muzzled.

The horse lashed out at the trader with its front hooves. The fat merchant barely dodged it and yelled at the skinny, weasel-looking trader. He brought over a stick and the fat merchant beat the horse to its knees.

“...and that’s when I decided that I needed to do something. I only have a bow though and I’ve been through some stuff in Norwood but not enough to really be able to do a rescue on my own.” Raina stared at the woman for a moment then ran her hand through her hair again, holding in onto the top of her head and she sat for a moment. “I know it seems so silly but I just can’t let something like that go on when I’m around.”

She stared at the woman with hope in her large brown eyes.

The woman, now known as Raina, slowly slid into a chair opposite her and ran a hand through her hair. She had obviously been out in the sun for some time now as her skin was tan and her clothes were faded and worn from exposure to the sun. Umbra looked her over and found a bow and her quiver ready so she must be an archer or ranger of some sort. An interesting profession and as Umbra watched the woman seemed to be a little meek but this could be because of her uncertainty around the half demon.

The woman took in a breath and began her tale of being in the Norwood forest for some time, traveling and wandering through though she did not speak of why.

There she found a group of traders speaking of something, unfortunately she did not hear them very well nor did she recognize the language they spoke. An understandable thing thought the half demon Many languages are unknown to the average person. The woman continued describing the traders and that, at least to umbra, may have been arguing or debating a price of sales on something. I agree. Either they are well off hunters or they have someone who is if they have those kinds of pelts for protecting goods.

She continued about their discussion/Debate/argument and finally came to the meat of the problem. One of them, a fat merchant, brought out a horse that looked, from Umbra’s view point, a leopard and it was not in the best kept care. Umbra nodded as she listened carefully, not speaking until Raina was finished about the treatment of such a beast. Raina seemed to get a little worked up as she spoke on it, obviously she did not care for the treatment and neither did the Paladin she was speaking to.

Finally Raina finished and looked at Umbra who wondered if Raina’s eyes could get any bigger from pleading for help. When the woman finished Umbra nodded and stood. “I would be honored to aid you Miss Raina. We best leave with haste if we are to get there in time to save the mis-treated beast.”

Raina jumped up and almost wrapped her arms around Umbra to say how thankful she was that the woman had agreed to help her. She was just opening her arms when she decided against the action and made a weird rolling motion with her shoulders instead. She tried to turn it into a movement to pick up her bow but it just looked awkward.

“Thank you. Thank you so much.” Raina paused for a moment. “I’m sorry I don’t think I caught your name….” She gathered up her things and waited for Umbra to get hers.

She made sure that Umbra was following her before she started to lead them to where the merchants were. Raina, not being comfortable with the silence, talked mindlessly about the weather, how pretty Norwood was, how she’d never seen a village in the trees before, how her father taught her how to shoot a bow out on their farm, little things. She was mostly just trying to fill the silence between them.

When they got close to where the merchants were Raina stopped talking and crept forward. She could just hear them arguing still. She turned to Umbra and stared at the women who looked so strong and sure of herself. One day, I’ll be like that too. Raina promised herself, but today wasn’t really that day.

“I’m one really sure what to do now.” Raina pulled her bow off her should and just held it in front of her. She had become better at using it and she had scars of her own, but Raina was not a leader now. She wasn’t the type to just jump into battle but she saw that horse and knew she had to do something. “I’ll follow your lead. It’s sort of why I needed help. I’m not very good at this yet.” Raina smiled a little awkwardly but she would do what Umbra directed her to do.
