Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Keelin snarled at him. "Of course I wanted to kill it too. You couldn't have waited ten more seconds? Ass-hole." The angel hunter paused, though, reconsidering what had exactly happened. She didn't remember what Inael had been saying, but this older elf definitely interrupted them mid-sentence to kill it. Why was he here, anyway? Who else but her had an excuse to hunt angels? Usually whenever she got an unlikely ally, it was because of that single angel. There was no reason this elf was different in that respect. "Whatever. It's not like it would have told me anything anyway. I don't suppose you would know anything about this 'affliction,' my smug elder?" The Elvish word she used for 'elder' was a term used to respectfully address older (and presumably wiser) individuals, but she clearly framed it as sarcasm.

Taking a couple more steps back for good measure, Keelin pressed the flats of her hook-swords together and allowed the ribbon-like covering to wrap itself hungrily around the two. The unique material would gorge itself on the angel's blood covering the weapons, leaving the blades clean for their next use. She stashed the bundle through the loop of her baldric, near her left hip, and looked around the battlefield. Her hat, a bit worse for wear with each fight she got into, was sitting nearby; Keelin kept an eye on Seele while she went to grab it. "Who are you, anyway? I'm Keelin. An angel hunter."

Seele shrugged. "I could have waited, but I have found it is best to execute angels before they can scurry back to their home plane. I did not want to have to follow that Wright back to Celestia." He tilted his head to one side, narrowing his eyes and staring at the gaping hole where her eye had been messily removed. Claw marks stretched outwards from the terrible wound, making it appear as if it had been violently ripped free. The gruesome injury glowed with a soft golden light and pulsed with holy energy in his magical senses. "If by your affliction, you are referring to your missing right eye... Well, I doubt I can tell you more than you already know. It is clearly magical in nature, but any hack could inform you of that. I could probably learn more... but I doubt you would allow me to dissect your skull in order to do so." He smirked slightly and chuckled slightly.

When his name was asked for the elf did not even pause before offering a pseudonym. "My name is Gehrin." He pronounced the word with an unusual inflection, almost sounding as if he was gargling gravel. It was the name of the Kyton demon that had shared his body for years, and one of his most common aliases now that his true name was known from one end of Imythess to the other. "Let's just say that Inael and I have had dealings in the past. They did not abide by the terms of our agreement. I am not fond of being cheated." It was a lie, but a good one. From the dialogue exchanged during the fight he didn't think that she would be able to prove him wrong.

"You do know, of course, that Celestia frowns on mortals executing one of their own. If you were not watched by them before... you certainly are now." Seele watched as she wrapped up the hook swords within a cloth and returned it to her baldric. He shrugged slightly before banishing Thanatos. Motes of black and gray light gathered around the length of the scythe before dissipating, taking the weapon with them. "Although I doubt that bothers you, if you claim to be an 'angel hunter.'"

Keelin heard that Abyssal-sounding name and immediately assumed this guy was some kind of demon, demon-bound, or had other kinds of ties like that. It explained the unholy magic. Admittedly, Keelin didn't know nearly as much about abyssal culture as she did about celestials. She knew that their workings were just as complex as Celestia's, and a few other tidbits gleaned from limited personal experience and being friends with the abyssal secret-seller Atastalaz. "Some demon-elf cutting a deal with a celestial? Not the strangest thing I've ever heard. What the celestial societies don't know won't kill them, I suppose." Inael probably would've fallen if they were allowed to live longer. She hated it when her hunts could be construed as beneficial to the angels.

Gehrin mentioned how the angels were probably watching her now, his tone expressing doubt in the feasibility of her stated profession. Keelin placed her hat back on her head and whistled. Steadfast IV, who was hiding behind some crumbling buildings, reluctantly approached. The horse was scared and agitated, only its discipline keeping it abiding her orders. Her eye turned back to Gehrin. "That's a story demons tell to scare their little spawnlings. The truth of the matter is simple: angels have limited manpower and big priorities. A couple deaths from someone as insignificant as me is barely enough even to register in their planning. I'm a speck in the grand scheme of things."

In retrospect, Seele shouldn't have been surprised that someone that identified herself as an angel hunter had knowledge of the Abyss as well. Hopefully she didn't have specific knowledge regarding his former partner. Gehrin might be dead, but there were still multiple demons that knew that the Kyton had been bound with the mortal who eventually became the God of Darkness. It was a loose end that he planned on taking care of sometime in the near future, but identifying himself by this particular name might have been a mistake.

Keelin didn't seem overly concerned with the wrath of Celestia, which made the elf stare at her with a slightly incredulous mien. After a few seconds he started to laugh with genuine amusement, shaking his head back and forth. "Ah, you don't know, do you? While that might be true for most Celestials, Inael's superiors are... incredibly interested in the mortal plane. You might be a speck to most angels, but to them..." He gestured at the deflated heap that had once been the Stargazer, face still split in a wide smile. "They might consider you an insect, but you are no longer insignificant."

The sorcerer crossed his arms, barely glancing at the timid horse that clopped over to the woman. "So if you enjoy killing angels, I predict you will have quite a lot of entertainment in the near future."

Keelin chuckled. Her grin was downright predatory to the point that she wouldn't even need to tell Gehrin that she relished the idea of taking down more Celestials. Being perceived as significant -- a threat -- was something she went beyond just desiring. She actually sought it out. "Excellent. Those are exactly the kind of angels I'm interested in." Steadfast bumped into Keelin's shoulder and tried to nibble at the brim of her hat; she pushed its nose away and went to the saddlebags. She pulled a waterskin out, drank deep, and offered it to Gehrin. "You don't seem too awfully worried, yourself. Bunch of angry angels come knocking on the door and you can just teleport away, yeah?"

After clipping off the end of a cigar, Keelin pulled a special cedar spill from inside her coat and dragged it fast across her trouser leg. It caught alight, letting her hold the small flame beneath the end of the cigar to get it going. Puffing smoke through her lips, the angel hunter led Steadfast over to a more covered part of the ruins nearby. She took a seat on a cracked stone bench, rested her free arm across the top of the backrest, and reclined with a contented sigh. No use rushing anywhere after that hard fight. Gehrin could go wherever he wanted, but Keelin noticed after a short while that he lingered. Might be one of those demons that thought of her as 'interesting.' Usually it wasn't really the flattering kind of 'interesting,' but more like looking at a gross piece of fungus. Keelin idly wondered what his deal was. "Thanks, by the way. Probably would've died if you hadn't healed me." She tapped the center of her chest with her knuckle, indicating the rapidly flattening scar.

The shadow sorcerer blinked in reaction to her blithe response before grinning once more. What an amusing little specimen this one is. It was not often that mortals provided him with a pleasant surprise, but this elf's insouciant confidence was charismatic. It was a shame that she would probably be dead soon. There were very few individuals on Imythess that had a fighting chance against a single weakling Celestial such as Inael. If she continued fighting her way through the hierarchy of angels he had no doubt that this woman would be completely obliterated.

"Why should I be concerned? This is not the first Celestial I have slain; I doubt it will be the last. Having them seek me out will simply save me the trouble of hunting them down." Seele removed the small, flawless black ring he wore on his left hand and set it down gently on the broken stonework at his feet. Invisible runes flared into life around the circumference of the jewelry, black power crackling and humming as he released the seal on the innocuous-looking object. It uncurled sinuously, unfolding into the shape of a minuscule black dragon. The miniature creature yawned widely, stretching its legs and flapping its wings.

He shrugged when she thanked him for the healing. "Consider it as repayment for the blessing you bestowed upon me... although the next time you wish to augment an ally, perhaps you should make sure they won't reject the magic." He turned his glowing gold eyes to the dragon, whispering several soft syllables in the language of magic. The reptile almost immediately began to swell, doubling and then tripling in size in the blink of an eye. Within seconds it was the size of a full-grown horse. Its growth stopped as suddenly as it had began. Each scale was the size of Seele's fist and interlocked in a flawless protective layer. Its eyes were the same metallic color as its owners, and they glinted with a keen intelligence as it regarded Keelin and her equine mount.

"Do try to stay alive. It is always refreshing to fins someone else bereft of the idiotic idea that Celestials are higher beings." He nimbly climbed up the dragon's scales to seat himself, pausing for only a few seconds to see if the woman had any parting words before squeezing his knees to indicate that the beast should take to the skies.
