| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Iophiel hadn't been to these ruins, though he'd heard talk of them before. The white stones and broken buildings sprawled in front of him as the ancient bones of a once grand civilization. The sight was somehow heart-rending; as Iophiel stared ahead, the dead city did not move and Iophiel was not sure if he should be violating the sacred stillness that filled the place. He knew, though, that he had no choice; the answers that he was seeking were rumored to be found in this silent, unmoving ruin. He had heard this a few weeks before, sitting in a pub in Cascadia. An elven woman (with devilish beauty, even for an elf) had chatted him up over ales and dances. Though the place and the activities were somewhat frivolous, the conversation was truly, truly not; in fact, their conversation was just about as heavy as conversations get. "Truly, the Darkness is ever present. I can feel it lurking in every corner, waiting to slake its thirst on the blood of every being in this land." The elven woman, Koraina, knocked back an ale and eyed Io. "The Gods are all but gone and Taras lies in ruins. Something somewhere is waiting to destroy us. Soon, we'll have to face it." "How, though?" Iophiel asked somewhat skeptically. "Even if the Gods are lost because of some third party, how can we face that? Seems to me that if there's something that can do that, then that something is even greater than the Gods." He supported his head on one hand while the other danced across the rim of his mug. "Besides, it's not like anything on this scale has ever happened before." "What if something has?" Koraina suddenly became intense, her eyes widening as she drew in close to Io's face. "There is an entire city that crumbled years and years ago, long before anyone can remember. There're no remains of the people that lived there. Nothing left but stone and dust. What if what happened at Taras happened there long ago, so long that no one remembers?" Her intensity was somewhat frightening; Iophiel's hairs all stood on end and something in his stomach turned glacial. "What if they are all dead because something evil came their way?" Her words echoed in his head now as he stood, drinking in the eerie stillness blanketing him. There's nothing here that can point me in any direction, he thought. Nothing left but stones. I don't have the means to raise the dead, if there are even any spirits here to begin with. What do I think I'm going to find? He stood a moment in dark silence before continuing on into the ruins. The only sounds came from his own feet as he marched somewhat reluctantly, tense from the strangeness that pervaded the ruins. It doesn't matter, I guess. If I do find something, maybe I can change the fate of this world. If there's anything to change. Koraina had also said that the ruins were said to be haunted. "The way it's been told, stay there long enough and you'll disappear to the same place as the people who lived there all those years ago. Who really knows, though? I'll never be goin' there myself." Her expression suddenly lightened and she swept him away in a flurry of dance and music. He left that night, though. The way that the possibility loomed in his mind, he found himself unable to stop until the ruins were in sight. "Well, let's hope that all the badness was a fluke and that there's nothing to find." He spoke this aloud to no one as he ventured into the heart of this forgotten, forsaken place. |

The air felt cold as she flew towards her destination. Not just a normal cold that came with altitude and wind...but something that fortold of a dark prescence. It did not sit well with the celestial. Although she was new to the lands, she had already heard stories of this world's history. The past several years had seen the fall of the gods, the destruction of a major city, and the war in the north. Something was brewing in this world. She had heard some rumors about a set of ruins near by. It seemed like these event had happened long ago, and perhaps some clues could be found by searching the remains of those who come before. She likely would find no answers, but it could not hurt to try. As she reached the ruins she began to decend to the ground. That was when she noticed a man walking down below. What was he doing in these ruins? Not many came here due to the rumors. And most that did were bandits and cultists. But she did sense something about him that told him he was neither. She flew over him before flaring out her wings to stop herself in mid air and landed on a broken wall. The celestial looked down at him with bright green eyes and the sun's light making her wings and hair look aflame. "Hello there," she said. "I was not expecting to see someone in this region. I am Ainanaar. Who might you be and what brings you to these deserted lands?" |

Iophiel didn't see the Celestial as she flew about overhead; he was too lost in his own thoughts to think about the presence of others, even though he knew that the possibility of danger lurked in every shadow here. He almost didn't notice when the Celestial managed to anchor herself on a broken wall not fifteen paces ahead. When she spoke, though, he was firmly wrenched from his reverie. That's... A Celestial? Though his eyes were plainly seeing one, he wasn't sure he believed them; he'd only heard rumors of Celestials in this world. He stared as it - she - Ainanaar - introduced herself and asked his business. A Celestial. In these parts. On this plane. What do I do? He stared for a moment that stretched for what could have been eternity while his mouth hung open. Finally, though, he got a hold of himself and began to stutter in reply: "Ah, uh, hey. Uh, hello, rather. My name's Io, uh, Iophiel. It's a pleasure to m-meet you." His voice trailed off for a moment; in that moment he managed to collect his wits and calm his nerves. He cleared his throat to reassure himself. "I'm here because I'm concerned about the current state of affairs and I'd heard that I could find my answers here." As he answered her, he examined her closely. Although the wings clearly marked her as a Celestial, she wouldn't have appeared human without them. Her scarlet hair and green eyes were peculiar and somehow ethereal in the current light. She seemed to be an illusion of something glorious that didn't really belong in these times or in this place. The golden tones in her skin were more pronounced than those in Iophiel's, though his blood was singing with her proximity. He felt resonant, as if the inherent power of her presence had struck a part of him that hadn't been brought to light. Then, suddenly, he felt a surge of elation. "Why are you here? Are the Celestials taking an interest in the state of this world? Have you come to help us bring back the balance that we've lost?" He was growing more convinced that there could be no other reason for her presence. If we've got the support of Celestia, then we've got a chance! He gestured around himself at the ruins and weeds. "I'm afraid that this city is a sample of what the world's going to become if something isn't done to stop the flow of evil. Some speculate that there is something of evil here; they say it's the same evil that caused the Gods to vanish, the same evil that brought that White Queen to the north. Do you know anything of this, Ainanaar? Can you help me?" |

A small smirk crossed her face as the young man stammered. Apparently he was not expecting to meet a celestial in these lands. Now that she was closer, she could see that he also held celestial blood. He was an aasimar. As he found he tongue she lightly jumped off the wall she was on and use her wings to gracefully land softly on the ground. She took a few steps to him and nodded. "It is nice to meet you Iophiel," she replied. "I can see you are a bit surprised to see me here. I must admit I am also a bit surprised to see one with celestial blood in these parts. I had thought that I would be exploring these ruins alone." He went on to ask her more questions. He asked if there were more of her kind around. This brought up some painful memories. For it had not been that long ago she had been exiled from Celestial. While she did not regret the actions that had made her a "fallen" angel, she still wish the outcome had been different. She shook her head. "I am afraid not," she told him. "I am the only celestial here and I am here upon my own will. I highly doubt more will come unless an event like what occurred at Taras happens again. But even if I am alone, I still indent on doing what I can to stop whatever evil plagues this land." |

While he was disappointed that there were not more of her kind that were waiting in the wings, Iophiel still felt cheered by the fact of her presence. She knows that I've got Celestial blood -- maybe she can teach me things about Celestia. Maybe she can tell me more about what it means to have Celestial blood. He got lost in the maybes of the situation; for a moment, he was entirely ungrounded by possibility before reality anchored him again. Now isn't the time for that. Now is the time to look for answers to the big questions. I'm not here for me. "Well, let's hope that another city isn't leveled. Though Striberg has been set upon and Cascadia is suspended in the sky... The cities of Chaon have seen better days." He ran a hand through his hair and began walking further into the city. "Do you know anything about what may have caused those things, or what made the Gods vanish? I don't know if they remain on this plane or not. And there have been other Gods before, Gods that have gone elsewhere..." He let himself trail off before he started giving a sermon. He had his theories as to divinity and the Gods of Chaon, and he wasn't sure that he wanted to share them. Now, though, faced with a being not of this plane and reminded of his own planetouched blood, he wanted to see what this Celestial knew. Instead, he offered: "Instead of exploring these ruins alone, why don't you explore them with me? This place reeks of old hurt. I'd feel better with a companion." He looked around them. "I think that we'll find something here if we look hard enough. Old hurts never really settle, after all. There may be ghosts, like the rumors say, or there may be things here even less savory than ghosts." He began to wonder what exactly he thought he'd find. Even if there is some sort of a ghost here, who says it's going to just tell me what I want to know? It's not like I can force it to or even touch it. And if there's something worse here, who says I can defeat it? Mentally, he shrugged. I guess you never know until you try it. |

She could see the disappointment in his eyes when she told him she was alone. As much as she wish she could bring backup...that was never going to happen so long as she was exiled. And when a race lives for thousands of years, they are not quick to forgive and forget. She honestly did not think she would ever be welcomed back into Celestia. "I have heard of gods dying before," she replied. "In one world, I know the god of death has changed at least three times. A little ironic if I say so myself. There was another time when the gods were forced to walk as mortal, leading to many of them dying. But this all happened thousands of years ago, long before my birth. And all in different worlds. I do not know what exactly caused those events in the past, or if they are in any way linked to these events." She nodded to his suggestion. "That would be wise," she said. "Where one may fail, two could succeed. Besides...if you could not sense me as I flew down, I don't want to see what would happen if something less friendly than I snuck up on you." She said this last bit with a smirk on her face, clearly showing she was just joking with him. She was glad to have someone to help her with this. A companion was always welcome company, especially one with celestial blood. She had not come across anyone remotely celestial since she had been exiled. It was a welcome pleasure to be with someone at least somewhat similar to her in heritage. |
