Yurim Shadewalker, more commonly known as the One Shadow while in his territory, now his territory has expanded a bit but their numbers are lacking, their forces are stretched thin... and Yurim saw it as an opportunity to go into the west side of Balefire... into the Beehive. He had heard of it a bit but truly didn't know much, on the east side they had to worry about the Dons, but the West side was outside their influence, he could steal from here and escape back into the east, if he could raise tension between the western gangs and the eastern Dons... he could keep the pressure off his crew for a bit longer, preferably enough to get some new members. He wore his traditional full black gloomwood leather armor, complete with a black scarf around his neck. He walked the busy streets and went to work, he needed to earn a bit of pocket money. His hands were quick as he picked pockets, nobody seemed to notice as he slowly made his way through the crowd, swiping coins here and there, and even stealing a meat skewer as he went. He finished the meat quickly and planted the skewer on some young man, stealing the bag on his belt with relative ease. He opened it up to find peppermint candies... not gold, but they would make a good bribe for children. He kept up his pick pocketing ways, snatching gold and small bits of food as he listened for rumors... he would need a lead, one that could help him cause more tension between the gangs on the borders of the East and West. At dinner, Eko's little sister Kasih came in fifteen minutes late. Everyone glared around their shoulders. Ansha the hulking dog was busy chewing on bone scraps and didn't look. Kas was about the same size as Eko despite being three years younger than her: a small, sharp-eyed little girl wearing a thick cloak and scarf. She marched over and, without fanfare, placed a piece of white opal the size of her fist on the dinner table. Everyone erupted into a clamor, asking the thirteen-year-old all sorts of questions about where it came from, praising her all the while even if she'd acquired it through dubious means. They were more concerned about who she might have pissed off by stealing it rather than the act of stealing itself. Eko had spared the gem a cursory glance, then went back to calmly eating her mashed potatoes. Kas was smug during the debacle, arms folded and a stupid grin on her stupid face. "With this, we might be able to afford to move to the upper Beehive," her mother said, cupping the opal reverently in her hand. "Give it to me. I'll put it in the safe," her father said, pushing himself out of his chair. Eko watched him leave, then felt her brother Dian's stare. "What are you looking at?" "Jealous, master thief?" Dian sneered, propping his cheek on his hand. Eko stood up, attracting her dog's attention. "Thank you for the meal, everyone. I have to go to work now." Her grandparents and siblings waved goodbye and she slipped out of her family's humble quarters, Ansha not far behind. The Beehive's markets were in full swing this time of night. Lanterns cast a blue and white glow on the vendor's stalls and crowds of people. Ever since saving the life of Mohdu Narang and claiming protection of his Western Quarter inn and tavern, Eko had a steady income in the form of 10% of the business' profits. Unfortunately, getting that income alone wasn't enough to function against so many enemies. Almost every coin Mohdu paid her went exactly where she originally promised it would go: to protecting his establishment. Using that paltry fee she paid her friends whenever they served on bouncer shifts or scouted, armed them, kept the place free of security threats, et cetera. At the end of the day, she still needed some extra income on the side. Eko was so small that she was an innocuous presence. She sidled up to patrons and slipped coinpurses and trinkets into the baggy folds of her clothing. Her dog was somewhere in the market, probably following strange smells. While she mugged in the market districts of the city where there were lots of foreigners and outsiders, in the Beehive she picked pockets. No one seemed to notice when she did it, and it was always small amounts; a good night usually netted her about 100 silver crowns. Eko continued as per usual until her fingers found a purse that was too light to contain coins. She opened it up to see that it was full of peppermint candies instead. Odd. |

Yurim's trained eyes and hands combined with his ability to blend in with the crowd... made him nearly undetectable, his next target was a young girl. Just as she passed his hand easily swiped a coin purse from her baggy clothes... only for him to find his belt feeling lighter, the girl was a pick pocket. He turned back and grabbed the girl's shoulder as she looked into the back, he dangled her own coin purse in front of her nose, "Little girl... little girl... I believe you picked up something of mine, just as I picked up something of yours. My, aren't we both clumsy?" He gave her a kind grin as he walked with her, putting the purse he had dangled in front of her down inside his armor. He made a small show of sweeping back his flowing scarf, showing two sheathed daggers, he spoke with what seemed to be kindness... but people on the receiving end would understand his threats, "Oh little girl, are you lost, please come with me, I'll help you find your parents. Oh, unless you would rather we find a guard so we can get you back home in one piece." This little twerp had just tried to steal from a thief... she would either need to be punished by living her worst nightmares... or perhaps he could use her little ears to pick up some interesting tidbits. |

Eko's own coin purse dangled down into her view, and her hand shot out to grab it. The man pulled it back too quickly, though, leaving her silently fuming, her face blank except for her eyes. She tossed the bag of useless candy back at the pickpocket, listening to his slimy voice speaking veiled threats. Eko hated being called a "little girl" -- she was a young adult at sixteen, but due to her small size everyone assumed she was younger. Nevertheless, she nodded to a less populated cross-street and followed him there. As soon as they were both out of view of most of the crowd, Eko pulled out a knife and stood in an even, cautious stance several feet away from the man, watching him carefully. "Give it back," was all she said. |

Yurim caught the candy and placed the bag on his belt again, calmly taking out a peppermint candy and tossing it into his mouth as he saw her motion towards an empty cross-street. He walked on ahead and turned his head as he heard her speak, he chuckled a bit, it was adorable that she thought a simple dagger would scare him. He kept a hold on the bag in his left hand and used his free right hand to draw his Dagger of Torment, a blade that was fairly famous from the Eastern Dons granting them to torturers or high ranking individuals in their gangs, but Yurim had just killed a man for it, the dagger gave him an edge over a fellow dagger fighter. He pointed a the dagger at her and chuckled, "Little girl, you should really pay more attention to who you steal from." But something caught his eye, a poster of all things was hanging near them. He tossed the bag of coins to the girl as he turned to read it, apparently some bigwig was putting up a large art exhibit only a few blocks away at a heavily guarded showroom. Apparently the center pieces were gems from the Batari clan of goblins that live in the jungle, six gems in all, all of them the size of Yurim's fist. He motioned for the little girl to come closer as he sheathed his dagger, "I believe we might be able to help each other, young miss. I have heard of this showroom, the Beholder's Eye, only a hand full of thieves have ever broken into it, only one group escaped and without a single bit of gold for profit. The way I see it, we don't need to argue over these scraps... if you can get me some information on this building... I may cut you in, say... five percent of the profit?" Yurim only planned for her to gather information, he doubted she had any other skills... but if she could pick locks and sneak just as well as she could pick pockets... then perhaps he could really use her. |

Eko's pale green eyes fell on the man's dagger. It was wickedly serrated on one side, the hilt wrapped in some kind of blood-red material. She didn't like the look of it, and guessed that this man could handle himself in a fight with her. Eko caught her coinpurse and took many more steps back, preparing to run away. What stopped her was his offer, indicating one of the advertisement posters that had been tacked up all over the market district. It was a special showcasing of gemstones at the Beholder's Eye, a place renowned for its unbelievably tight security. He was asking her for information with a promise of five per cent of the profit. "Twelve percent." She would haggle with him until they settled on a cut. "The Beholder's Eye is a joke. Some rich person, I don't know if they're a Lord or not, but they bought out a chunk of property in upper Beehive -- one of the taller towers. It's a posture, putting something like that in a borough like this. Putting their wealth on display for people to get jealous, marketing it as a way to revive our economy. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was just a thief-trap run by the Sheriffs. They could even be lying about the gems for all I know." Eko looked into Yurim's eyes. "Who are you and what are you planning?" |

Yurim grinned as he heard the girl try to haggle, "Fine, twelve." It's not like he planned on giving her the twelve percent, if need be he could just kill her and leave her in an alley for someone to find, cut up, and sell the parts. He listened to her description of the place and nodded a few times, it made sense... but they needed to have real bait to draw in real thieves and if they had such precious gems they certainly wouldn't be advertising them so openly... unless it was all a trap to capture a specific thief. He stroked his chin and a wicked smile spread across his face as the girl asked what his plan was, "Why, to rob the Beholder's Eye of some of it's riches." His mind was already sifting through ideas, he would need rope, two burlap sacks, a little luck, and what he dreaded most... a partner. He would need someone as skilled as him, as unnoticeable as him, someone who could fit in smaller areas... and most importantly... someone with shorter legs so he can outrun them if they get caught. He turned to the little girl as he took out another peppermint candy, tossing it into his mouth as he spoke, "Do you know any other skilled thieves in the Beehive? I need a partner for this job and I have a feeling a local would be best. I need someone that knows the area and the way I see it... a thief generally keeps an ear to the ground for other thieves." He took a few steps forward and bit down on the peppermint, crushing it between his teeth, his right hand was always close to his Dagger of Torment, just in case she tried to pick a fight. |

Eko watched him. He had a distinct swagger, all that pomp and cockiness that she expected from an Eastern gang leader. Yurim agreed to her haggling quicker than she expected. A few reasons could explain it, the simplest one being that he already had so much money that the difference between ten and twelve percent was insubstantial to him. He asked her where he could find a partner who knew the area well. "You're looking at one of your best options. I know others, but I refuse to endanger them like this." She eyed his hand, which never left his weapon. "How do you propose we do this?" |

Well... maybe he could use the girl even more so... it also helped that he probably didn't have enough time to find other thieves. He nodded a few times before speaking, "Alright... instead of twelve percent, be my partner, we split the take fifty fifty. As for what we do next... of course we investigate the area, look for any holes in their security, even visit it to look around. We just need to be quick about it. In, out, and then we wait." He tapped his foot as he started to think of different plans, infiltration, trap detection, security... all of it needed to be planned. Of course it would be impossible to plan a heist after only a few hours... unless they could exploit a flaw in the system. Yurim nodded to the girl, "First your name. Second, we both need to keep our eyes open for any flaws, anything we can exploit. If there's a cracked window or a tiny hole, we need to take notice. It can't be a simple smash and grab unless we want to deal with guards. In and out like shadows." It wasn't much to ask for, but some thieves these days preferred smashing a window or something, in this kind of heist silence and speed were key. |

"Alright. Partners. Fifty-fifty," Eko parroted, then listened to Yurim's plans. This was going to be purely a stealth operation; they just didn't have the kind of firepower to take out so many armed guards. "My name is Eko. No last name, unaffiliated." First, they needed to survey the area for weak spots they could potentially exploit when it was time to actually initiate the plan. "I can do that. Maybe even visit the place as a civilian to get an idea of the inside layout. It might also be helpful to find out guard posting schedules and hours of operation, but I don't know how we could do that." Once they made a basic plan, Eko led Yurim up to the tops of the towers. Traveling in Sokolovsburg was slightly more infuriating than in the rest of Balefire, but she knew enough shortcuts to get them where they needed to be in a timely manner. The gem expedition was an immense oddity in the Beehive. It actually looked like a traditional building: four walls, a roof, and windows. Of course, it was so big that one of the walls was just the outer wall of the Beehive, but other than that it looked like an honest-to-gods Balefiren building complex stuck right in an open cavern of Sokolovsburg. Guards were posted on every side, especially around the entrances, of which there were two: a visitor's entrance and a staff entrance. |

Yurim listened to his new little partner and followed her to the Beholder's Eye... and honestly it was a bit disappointing, two points of entrance, tall walls, a slanted fancy tiered roof to make it seem more interesting, and several windows, all of them out of easy reach. There were two guards at each entrance, and a few patrolling the grounds somewhere, but that was it. He grinned as he turned to Eko, "Well it's simple then, you create a small distraction, and when the guards leave their post for a second to investigate I'll sneak in from the employee's entrance, they might have some interesting information stored in there... and you'll have to get in the normal way and scout it out. Sound like a plan?" Yurim didn't really care if she agreed or not, the employee's entrance would have a lot more information and he was the only one of the appropriate age, and possibly height, to get in and disguise himself as an employee. |
