Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

From Norwood, he had found himself stumbling around Imythess yet again. Zilfer, had no clear direction, though as usual his clans hunters had tracked him once he had left and the amnesty he had been granted wore off. He was begging to realize what he lacked, and that was purpose. All he did was go from this place to that place, always marching forward never sure where the wind might take him but that would have to come to a close soon. He couldn't wander for the rest of his life. Or could he? His clan would eventually stop sending hunters after him eventually, and he met some amazing people in his travels. He wondered what it would be like if he had decided to join any one of those he had met along the way.

Too late for that now, he spent some of his coin in a tavern drinking what must had been some of the worse alcohol he'd ever dared to try. He was slowly growing a taste for outlander's beverages but it was slow to take hold. He worked quitely keeping an eye out in this city. He had thought the rumors about this town were impossible, how could a city be blotted out from the sun almost constantly? It seemed however that the rumors were true he had been here for going on two days and once he had crossed the threshold of darkness he had not seen a hair or peep of the sun. The darkness had been one of the reasons he had come here for a run in with his hunters had ended rather quickly only because he had seen them first. His path had been altered to here and since then he thought he had lost them because of the natural darkness the clung to this place.

He wondered how people could live here for most of their lives. To most the darkness was like a lover around here, but he was already beginning to miss the sunlight. With only lanterns and fires to light the way even he had difficulty seeing despite having good low light vision. Sipping his brew one last time he let the taste run down his throat, bitter but the taste was slowly going away. He just starting to feel something from the alcohol so he had decided this would be his last cup.

There were rumors around Balefire of someone hiring mercenaries for a job, but what exactly that entailed he had no clue. He just knew he was down to his last five gold pieces since coming here, and that pick pockets were numerous here. The dark only helped such activities, and he didn't want to know what happened in the back alleys at night or rather.... all the time. There had been no sign of the man hiring said mercenaries but he had gotten a tip that he often frequented this bar.

Lucian made his way down the dark cities streets, hoping that he was in the right part of this dreadful town. He looked down the side alley as he passed to be greeted by a heavy stench and multiple sets of piercing eyes. Wrinkling his noes he moved on thinking to find the inn before the owners of those eyes thought him an easy victim. It had been a long road that had lead him to this dark town, one that had almost entirely emptied his pocket. He had been in this town for little over half a day and he already wanted to be done with this horrid place, every hour he was here he felt his soul grew darker for it. He had been told of possible work in an inn that was supposed to be here. Lucian drew closer to an old shabby looking tavern, glancing up at the battered old sign he saw that it was the inn that the man was hiring at. With a deep sigh lucian opened the door and made his way inside.

He drew a few glances from the patrons but none of them lingered for long. Lucian uneasily rubbed his shoulder blade. looking around the bar he did not see anyone that fit the mans description. hoping this wasn't a bad idea he made his way up to the bar.
"Excuse me sir i am looking for a man named Mandris i was told he is looking for a hired blade.

The waiting was beginning to drag on, as people came and went from the tavern but unexpectly one of them approached him. He took his feet off the table from his relaxed position and then leaned forward onto the table.

"Mandris did you say?" asked Zilfer not keeping his voice down to try and draw attention to them about anyone that might know about him. He was looking for this same man, though again just what he was hiring for remained a mystery. "Yeah, I heard he hangs out around here and looks like i'm not the only one who's heard the rumor that he's hiring skilled swordsmen."

Zilfer looked around the tavern seening that most people were still drinking minding their own business but the bartender was now looking straight at them. It was a woman with long red hair tied up and wavy. 'Excellent, she knows something,' he thought as he stood up from his seated position. "I think we should ask the lass over there a few questions, if he does indeed come here often she looks like she would know. After you my dark clothed friend..."

"hmmm well at least now i know that im not the only one that had hear of him hiring." Lucian looked at the well built elf, from the looks of him and the fact that he wanted this job obviously a swordsman. He also felt the presence of magic from the man whether he used it or not was different story. Lucian nodded and started walking in the direction of the the bartender.

"excuse us miss but we are looking fo..." the bartender cut him off.
"Mandris aye he frequents here ofen, so i'll be guessing you two pointy ears will be wanting to me 'im."

"yes ma'am" lucian smiled ignoring the racial spur. "I would very like to meet the man, if that could be arranged or if you could direct us to him it would be much appreciated."

Lucian glanced around the room again to find that a table of the patrons were looking at him and the elf beside him and talking in hushed voices. "Friend elf i feel that we might be having a bit of trouble in the near future."

Zilfer stood up and walked over. He let the other to the talking for he seemed to take charge in that point. Names really hadn't ever bothered him, it was like saying someone had a round nose. It was just a descriptive detail what did it matter? Regardless, of this however it seemed that the bartender knew all about them already which seemed to indicate Mandris already knew they were here. 'Interetsing...' thought Zilfer as the other man mentioned having company.

He glanced for a moment as the men got up from their seats and approached them. He looked back to the Bartender and then leaned over to the elf. “No, not soon…. Now!” said Zilfer as he pushed back off the bar into the men that had just arrived. They weren’t expecting it and he toppled into one knocking him off balance while the other moved to get out of the way. He came back up with a snapping upper cut straight to the under-jaw of the second man apparently half orc in his appearance.

He held his one hand out defensively while waiting with the other hand on his longsword. The other Patron’s had either backed up, turned to watch, or prattled out the door from the beginnings of a fight. The man he had pushed off into was standing up looking at Zilfer and he picked up a chair preparing himself.

“Look, I don’t know who you are but you don’t want to do this…” said Zilfer drawing his blade out about an inch from the hilt at his side. He’d draw reverse style if the man pressed the attack. It wasn’t long before he did, and he come in high using overhead swing. Zilfer was faster, but only just barely as his longsword hit with the flat end of the blade against the man’s chest pushing him backwards from his momentum.

Zilfer didn’t wait, he pressed the attack not wanting the man to have a chance he reversed his grip by flipping his blade between his hands and brought the flat of the blade on the man’s shoulder seeking to sidearm the man’s strength. After the slap the man let go of the chair and Zilfer brought his blade up to the man’s throat halting him in place. Then he looked over to see how his companion was fairing in the fight.

As his dark haired friend was taking on the bulk of the assault, two rough looking men had come to stand before lucian. their hands on their weapons one had a long knife on his belt the other had a wicked looking club.

"Now gentlemen im sure we can work this out peacefully." Lucian said with a small half smile, as he began gathering the energies for his spell.

"naw, lucky for us elfy we cant, see we 'r' getting paid to take your head from your shoulders." Said the one with the long knife. He started to draw the knife from the sheath then his had was suddenly hit with a blast of energy. he let out a loud yelp as he jerked his hand away from the weapon.

"Are you really sure you want to cross a mage?" Lucian glared at the men waiving his hands about menacingly "Is the promised gold worth your lives."

"Jake i wernt told th' he was a mage, i aint wanting no part in this. I value ma skin to highly to be crossin a mage" Said the man with the club as he backed away and ran out the door.

"I'm thinking this is the part where you start running." Lucian said with a vicious grin. the man suddenly came across and swung at his face lucian barely avoiding it as he silently cursed himself for thinking the man was done. Lucian stepped to the side gaining his footing. Gauging the distance between him and the man he knew that he didnt have room to draw his sword and he doubted that the man would let him get far enough away to do it, now a long knife on the other hand was a different story. The man drew the knife from his belt and lunged at lucian. In response lucian stepped into the mans lung moved past the weapon and jammed his fist into the mans throat. the man staggered back gagging for air, just far enough for lucian to draw his sword.

"Do you yield?" said lucian as he pointed the tip of his sword at the man. he dropped the knife and ran from the room. Lucian sheathed his sword then looked around.

“Well done that could have gone worse,” said Zilfer as he saw that his ally had already finished with those that had come for him. He turned his attention back to the man at the end of his sword and pressed it lightly into the skin to remind him that it was still there. “Now you have some explaining to do. Why single us out?”

“That won’t be necessary,” said a voice from above the bar who was overlooking from a wooden railing. “They were hired by me to make sure anyone who answered the call of the job was worth his weight in gold. I see you two aren’t average thugs looking for work, and well I value people with skill.”

Zilfer took a moment to observe the man, he had tusks and a darker hued skin than most around the bar, though he couldn’t quite make out what race this man was. He dropped his sword from the man’s throat and sheathed the weapon.

“Mandris I presume?” asked Zilfer looking down to the bartender for a moment he laid out his last silver piece. “Thank you for your hospitality.”

“Very much appreciated, sir.”

“Come on up so we can discuss matters in private, I have a rather curious dilemma I need help with and I hope you both are up to the task,” said the Mandris. Zilfer looked at Lucian gauging his response before shrugging and walking up the stairs to the last door on the left. Entering he smelt a strong incense, and it assailed his nose harshly as the candlelight lit this room well. He now noticed the man was finely dressed, and that was a good sign. It meant he had money to spare.
