Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Vyse stood there with three other teachers, waiting for the race to end, everyone had bet one a different charger-in-training, but Vyse had a feeling that his choice would win. Of course the one who picked Belim was bragging about how well rounded he was and that a sprinter like the riding bird wouldn't be able to handle cornering at it's top speed and how the worg was old and didn't have the same vigor that it used to, but he said nothing about the bear, thinking it would easily lose to even Tilman's old worg.

It wasn't long until the smile was turned into a scowl as Vivianne proved her worth, flying across the finish line in first place, followed by Chelsea, and Tilman snatching third place from Belim. Belim was angry but didn't take it out on his mount, instead he whispered a short apology into his mount's ear before leading Franz back inside. Chelsea on the other hand rode by Vivi and gave her a short congratulations before leading her mount back inside. Tilman rode up on his worg, his breathing was haggard as Tilman dismounted, handing Vivi a small, sticky, yellow ball. He nodded to it, "Honey candy. Good race." He turned his head and walked back to his worg, hugging it's thick neck before walking alongside it through the gates.

Vyse watched all of this and smirked as he walked over to Vivi, "Tilman is probably the closest out of those three to becoming a true charger. He thinks of the worg as family while the others just think of them as close friends... while their bonds are strong they will need more time to mature. Now as for you... I just told the teachers to give the money to our blacksmith, he'll have a few different sets of armor for you to choose from. He and his apprentices worked all night on them, they should be displayed where you saw me sitting. We can pick the one you want and I'll show you how to put it on your mount, and that should be it, after that it will be a short ride while wearing armor to get used to the new weight. Oh... and congratulations, you won one heck of a race." He started towards the gates, hoping Vivi would like one of the sets of armor laid out in the main yard.

Vivi warmly thanked Chelsea as the woman went past and shared a small nod with Tilman when he passed her the treat. She immediately split the candy in half, giving part to Kratos and popping the other piece in her mouth. Belim quite pointedly ignored her, and so the skinsharer did the same to him. She did not like the man. Although he might be a skilled rider, she didn't like the way he treated his companions or his mount. The other two students seemed like much nicer individuals, and she suspected that given enough time she could start to like them. Vyse wasted no time in coming over and congratulating her, sharing his opinion of the other racers. "Y-yes... Tilman and his w-worg seemed very close." She wasn't a good judge of how close he was to being a full-blown charger, but the merchant's assessment of his capabilities seemed fairly accurate.

Her mentor led her back into the academy towards the forge. Vivianne could hear the harsh clang of a hammer striking metal echoing from within. Her bear growled as they drew nearer, wrinkling is nose in disapproval. The skinsharer drew in a breath and inhaled the acrid scent of hot metal. She laid a reassuring hand on the back of Kratos's head, urging the bear to follow her towards building whose chimney was spewing smoke. Sets of armor large enough for her companion had been set out on the ground outside, four different suits waiting for her approval. Vivi clapped her hands together and walked down the line, inspecting the protective gear with interest. Living in her secluded hut, she really had no experience shopping for armor.

The first set had been crafted out of some odd, gray-green material with harsh angles. Vivi crouched down and tried to lift a piece that looked like it would fit the bear's shoulder... and found she couldn't lift it at all. One of the armorer's apprentices informed her that it had been crafted out of adamantine, which explained its ridiculous weight and resiliency. The next suit was made out of interwoven scales of lacquered ceramic that seemed like it would be incredibly flexible, but wouldn't provide much protection. Next to that was a standard set of steel plate with chainmail stretched between the small chinks in the metal. However, it was the last option that caught her attention. Instead of being forged out of any type of ore, it had been painstakingly crafted out of solid wood. Vivi bent down and ran her hand over the polished whorls of golden brown, appreciating its smoothness and strength. A fine pattern had been branded around the edges of the armor, black markings in the shape of intertwining vines and leaves. "What is t-t-this one?"

The armorer's apprentice smiled slightly. "Calmonah Ironwood, ma'am. It's a pain to work with, since it's so hard to shape. I wanted to carve the filigree by hand, but it was too hard so we were forced to sear it. Do you like it?"

Vivianne nodded and turned to Vyse, her eyes bright. "How d-do we put it on?"

Vyse lead Vivi to the blacksmith's shop, he looked at the armor and could already tell which ones were actually viable... the plain steel plate and the ironwood. He grinned when Vivi chose the ironwood and chuckled, "Yeah, I can show you have to put it on, it's pretty easy once you get used to the straps." He helped Vivianne carry the armor outside, showing her how to put it on, sliding the straps around the bear's stomach, adjusting the buckles. It took him nearly twenty minutes to show her every little feature, the armor would keep the bear safe from arrows, swords, axes, just about any normal weapon.

Vyse smiled at Vivi as he spoke, "You're ready to ride. Lets go take a short ride, Umbriel should be armored up by now." He gave a short, but sharp, whistle, a loud roar meeting his call. A few moments later Umbriel came sprinting towards them, armored with steel plates covering her sides and back, the plates even went down her legs a fair bit, splitting only at the joints. Vyse had chosen the armor based on it's protective steel plating and the fact that it didn't hamper his partner's movements. He quickly mounted her and held onto her sides with his legs, starting to walk off towards the gate, "Come on Vivi, we'll have to get you and Kratos used to the armor as soon as possible, don't want you falling off in mid-combat." A hard, short ride would help her get used to the movements of the ursine along with the weight of the armor.

Vivianne paid close attention as Vyse showed her how to strap on each of the piece of armor, making note of how they fit together to provide full protection to her mount. She knew that it would probably take her a few tries to get the positioning perfect. The armor fit Kratos remarkably well given how the blacksmiths had only had a single night to work on the suit and they hadn't had measurements for the ursine. She talked to the bear throughout the entire process, asking if the ironwood pieces were weighted correctly and adjusting the straps so he was comfortable. Vyse helped as well, making sure everything was in its proper place before they modified it so the armor wouldn't accidentally chafe or otherwise bother the bear.

The skinsharer nervously climbed up onto Kratos's back, frowning at the sensation of the carved wood. It was quite different from riding directly on the bear's shoulders. She would need to get some manner of padding to sit on so that the wooden planks wouldn't pinch at her legs. Still, there was a certain reassuring weight to the armor. She smiled as the bear started to walk forward, clearly unused to the extra burden of the protective gear. However, it didn't take him very long to adjust to its presence and was moving at a steady pace. It wasn't his full speed, but they could work up to that level.

They rode around the plains for a bit longer, Vyse giving snippets of advice about how to modify her riding style so as not to slide off of the armor. After a little while, she felt like she had the hang of it. "T-thank you for everything, Vyse... b-but I shouldn't leave my pack alone f-for too long. Is there anything e-else I should know?" Although she tried to keep it under control, there was a definite undercurrent of anxiety in her voice.

Vyse gave what advice he could as they rode, helping Vivi get as accustomed to the new armor as he could. Once they stopped, Umbriel turned and approached Vivi as she spoke, she was concerned about her pack, and from the tone of her voice, she was also worried if she knew everything. Vyse chuckled for a few seconds before speaking, "Vivi... you're more than prepared, you're not a master Charger and I still have things to teach you, but the next lesson would be weapons combat which I don't think you're ready for. So until you get a bit more experience riding Kratos, I can't teach you, but do remember this, I believe that you will do just fine as long as you and Kratos trust each other, just as Umbriel and I do."

With that said, Umbriel started back towards the school, with Vyse looking over his shoulder and shouting out his goodbye, "Goodbye Vivi! Please visit more often, I'm sure the students would enjoy your company just as much as I do!" With that done Umbriel started to speed up, going from a slow walk to a dead sprint, she didn't like leaving her pack either, and the cubs would be hungry soon. Vyse waved to Vivi for a while before turning his attention back to Umbriel, he would need to prepare more training courses, order more feed... it was back to business as usual.

Vivianne nodded at Vyse's assessment of her current capabilities. He was completely right; she wasn't ready for weapons training. She was barely comfortable fighting with a bow and arrow, much less any manner of melee weapon. If the next step to becoming a full-fledged charger was actually fighting from the back of her mount, Vivi wasn't sure if she would ever be ready for it. Kratos's claws and teeth seemed like more formidable weapons than any she could wield. She nodded to the man. "If I e-ever feel ready... I'll come b-back, Vyse. I'm not sure when... i-if that will ever be the case. But you'll b-be the first person I t-talk to if I do."

She squeezed her knees slightly, instructing the bear to turn and start off across the plains without a word. Kratos grumbled in farewell to Vyse and Umbriel before obeying, traipsing across the landscape. Vivi turned to wave over her shoulder as the bear lumbered off in a loping gait that ate up the distance. She turned and focused on the lessons that Vyse had shared, shifting her weight so that she was the smallest possible inconvenience for the ursine. She should get back to the Norwood Forest before sunset, and back to her hut within an hour after that.
