Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

"Ah, Lady Lofgren, why have I never heard of you before? You've made excellent conversation" Duke Vorleith inquired. Elena Lofgren chuckled melodically, a sound she had worked ages perfecting in her past life. A cool wind passed across the empty balcony, bringing a few flakes of snow. Vorleith's eyes wandered across the body of the woman next to Elena, Sophie. Sophie's dress left little to the imagination, her close fitted silks clinging to her slender form. Eliska and Volkova tapped their heels impatiently as they stood to the right of Elena. Eliska bore Elena's hammer, dressed in the clothes of an Istani nomadic warrior. Volkova was dressed much the same as Sophie. The chilling wind clearly left an impression on Vorleith who had chosen to bind himself up in a thick coat. The women were not in the slightest bit bothered.

"Because, dearest Duke, I and my court wander. Very eccentric, I know, but I get to meet so many wonderful people, such as yourself." Elena complimented, her voice smooth and soft spoken. Vorleith approached, planting a hand on her shoulder, stroking down a soft red ribbon. She blushed, forcing old reflexes to take hold with will.

"Where do you buy dresses such as this? The other three are wearing Istani garments and I must commend your style, but I cannot fathom how it stays on. Perhaps I should help it off you?" Vorleith complimented. His smile rose. "And those other three can join in as well." Elena batted her eyelashes and snapped her fingers. Eliska and Volkova pressed him against the wall by his arms, Sophie rummaged through the bag she bore. The necromancer approached, so close that he planted a kiss on her cheek.

"Where is your wizard retainer? He does promise immortal life, does he not? Without the curse of undeath?" Elena asked, her voice silken. Vorleith laughed.

"I'll tell you if we move somewhere warmer, darling." Vorleith suggested, his voice somewhat nervous. Elena looked back as Sophie drew out the first of many long iron spikes. She she stepped back a moment, drawing the hammer off Eliska's back.

"You'll tell me sooner. Sophie, his right shoulder is first." Elena said with a devilish grin. A true smile. Elena cackled as Vorleith struggled to no success. The two woman holding him were far too strong, even with one of Eliska's hand gagging him. He attempted to scream around her hand, but no noise escaped that could be heard in the clamor of the ball below.

"Don't worry, Vorleith! My aim is quite poor."

It was shocking news in Balefire when a court lord was found pinned to a wall by eight spikes of the sort one would find holding a ship together. His guards were also dead, killed by what appeared to be scimitars and a corrosive gas. Elena was more shocked: Vorleith had held out, not uttering a word. She suspected this was because the mage also promised to be capable of resurrecting him in case of his premature death. Elena's internal cynic(Which was now her entire conscious) murmured that it was probably because such a promise was excellent job security.

Elena's cheeks were covered by dark makeup that had run down her face, her hair unkempt and for all the world looked like the victim of a tragedy. A lost lover, perhaps. She sat at a round table in a mercenary guild hall, her offer on the board at the center of the structure. Jara Harcourt was searching for help to investigate the death of the Duke and she was offering a substantial reward. Jara Harcourt had been the name of one of Elena's maids back in the north, she was quite bad at coming up with names no matter the situation. At the table with her were Eliska, Sophie and Volkova, all dressed in the clothes of a nomad warrior. Having a someone to help her 'investigate' the matter would be more than helpful, Elena knew little of Balefire and even less about how to successfully carry out an investigation. Her skills were at relegating jobs, not actually fulfilling them.

Morrison Granitefist, more commonly known as Bloodeye for his single blood red eye, was being asked to investigate a murder, far away from his normal beat. He growled as he walked up towards the sight, the guards in the area around the corpse let him through, some of them from the intimidating glare that Bloodeye sported, or in respect for a member of SIN coming to personally investigate this case. Bloodeye reached to the side as a scroll was handed to him, he only needed to open it and scan it for an examination of the corpse and crime scene. Once he saw the blade wounds and spikes, he immediately started to inspect the corpse.

As soon as he raised one of his large stone hands to remove a spike, the local guard captain ran up to him, "What do you think you're doing!? This is a murder investigation and we're waiting for one of SIN's own detectives, now leave the area. Now." Without even looking at the man, Bloodeye reached into his jacket, flashed his iron plated SIN badge, and then casually punched the wall.

The wall shook, the vibrations knocking the iron spikes out of the wall. He spoke as he started to closely investigate the holes in the man and the holes in the wall, "The man was dead before he was nailed to the wall. He also has a few small bruises around his wrists and arms, probably from being held down... which wouldn't be needed if he was dead. Also from the depth in the wall they probably used a one handed warhammer or a large blacksmith's hammer. The slash marks on the guards are from a scimitar, you can tell from how the flesh is cut... or you would if you had to sit in on dozens of autopsies to figure out what poison killed who or if the sword wounds really killed the victim. Now I suggest you give me room before I enact my right to demote you to walking the back streets, looking for gangs to report on. As for the reports on the poison gas, it was probably powerful and debilitating, the enemy probably has special helmets and masks to keep themselves from being poisoned. I want reports on who could get these kinds of helmets and I want anyone that has come into town in the last month and left in the morning, get me those lists as soon as possible."

The man immediately backed down and walked away as Bloodeye stood up, issuing orders, "I want this man thoroughly searched in a clean room, something private as to not shame his corpse further. I want this entire area searched, if a single stone is out of place, cracked, or moved, I want to know about it. I want the reports by the end of the day, you will all be working nights and days until this case is resolved. Now bring me to the people who stayed at his estate, the people who found it, and anyone else who may have relevant information. Move people!" The guards moved to do as Bloodeye said as he examined the wall, he would need to speak to everyone here, at the scene of the crime, the Balefire Lords and Guard would force them to come, the SIN had their full support, and he would use that to solve this crime and bring the perpetrator to justice. He felt a man tap his shoulder, knowing it was his guide, he turned and followed him, hoping he could get some answers soon.

What seemed like hours later, a man came who bore the uniform of SIN. From what Elena had gathered while scoping out Balefire, SIN was some form of investigative guards that were somewhat more elite than the normal forces. Admittedly nearly every serious guardsmen in Balefire was some form of veteran, it came with the territory. Elena continued her act at being distraught as the guard approached.

"The l-l-lord was distracted by a group of men asking questions about an immortal magic! He promised me such a magic as well, so I would never age and never be injured longer than a minute." Elena cried. Her guards looked onwards, emotionless. Perhaps they had detected such magical foolery? "I have a reward for finding the killer!

(Sorry, sorry it is so short. ;-; My next post will be longer after Elena sees how Mister Bloodeye wants to go forward)

Bloodeye walked into the suspicious mercenary guild, he recognized a few faces he had knocked around from when he had that mixed boxing tournament, mercenaries against the guard. He greeted a few of them as he was brought before the sobbing woman, he tapped his foot as he listened to her story. Bloodeye immediately found something amiss, people did not hire anyone to find some mage with immortality magic, no, even more so you didn't post a reward. You would instead contact a small group or a specific person, not to mention it wasn't to bring the person to justice, just to find him, that could mean she didn't want his head, but still wanted that magic that was promised to her.

Bloodeye kept his single red eye on her and looked to her guards, "I am going to request your guards be searched by the local guards. You will accompany me to the mansion and show me where you were, what happened, anything I can use to find the culprit. This is not a suggestion, you can either help or be detained in a location of SIN's choosing, complete with steel bars and anti-magic field. Followed by magical screening, truth spells, and many invasive mental magic probes." Of course half of that he couldn't do, this was just a threat and the rumors of SIN tended to exaggerate what exactly they could do, which was basically just putting them in an anti-magic cell.

Elena nodded. Her guards stood immediately as did she. It was good to get an investigator,

"If it is necessary; I don't like being treated like a criminal!" Elena snapped, her voice still distraught. The rest of the threats fell on deaf ears - very few posed an actual threat to Elena. She approached the town guard and motioned to her own bodyguards, who quickly moved to let themselves be searched. Not a single weapon was found, but the ladies did look quite annoyed with the treatment. "We m-m-must go then and find the lord's murderer."

Back at the mansion, Elena brought the man through her story of the evening. She entered through the main doors and talked with the guests until coming across the Lord. With the Lord she had a few rounds of dancing before being brought out onto the balcony by the Lord. There they talked some more before a group of four men approached them and the lord shooed miss Jara Harcourt back out onto the balcony. Her own guards were left outside, and they explained that they spent most of their time in a local tavern, drinking.

Elena stood awkwardly by the site of the crime, the body now cleared away. The wall had been properly wrecked and the balcony itself was splattered with blood. "Are you satisfied? C-c-can we get on with finding the real crook? The m-m-man who did this was quite t-t-tall and had burning eyes."

Bloodeye didn't even bat an eye when she went on about not wanting to be a criminal, all that mattered was that the woman agreed to help. When the women were searched and nothing was found on them that could link them to the case, Bloodeye sighed, he had hoped this woman was the culprit, it would have been much simpler. With that done he lead her back through the streets, and had her tell her story as they stood next to the crime scene. He looked up at the balcony and thought of several flaws in her story... the first being why they hadn't killed anyone that saw them... if it was just the balcony and the frantic woman, she would have screamed or something, or she would have called for help. Something just didn't click with her story, while possible... it just felt odd to him.

He mentally scolded himself, he had to do the job based on facts and use his gut instinct only when necessary. He looked the woman in the eye as he spoke, "If your story and your guard's story checks out, then you'll be free of suspicion. I apologize if you are offended but I must do my job as a member of SIN. Now you will need to lead me through the house, show me where everything happened, give me more details. The more details the better." Of course he had to keep in mind the woman might lie... even if it's something as pointless as flirting, he just needed every little detail he could possibly get. Bloodeye stopped himself and looked back at her, "I will, of course, need as much detail on the four men you saw... after all, a tragedy like this usually scars the mind with the visage of the criminals." That was only somewhat true, but with this he was hoping she might slip up and reveal something... she was just far to suspicious to not be involved in some way or another... what was she to the victim and what would she do if she got immortality.

Elena hated being touched by outsiders. Their hands were grubby or clammy. The plaguecreatures did not have such problems. It seemed however that the guardsmen was alleviating a little of the suspicion on herself. That was good, she didn't want more difficult to explain blood on her hands. She made a show of calming herself down and Eliska gave her a light little hug.

"I had just met Vorleith. He was charming, I flirted with him. I don't have good marriage prospects back in Taras, so I had come here to find a suitable man. Vorleith seemed like a decent one, and rich enough. After a few dances and a few drinks he let slip the immortality mage. I, ah, only half listened. Immortality seems so very distant unless you were to become an undead or perhaps becoming some form of extraplanar. I mean, it sounded solid but it also sounded like a rich man's whimsy. About halfway through the ball, four men approached Vorleith. One was as I described, tall with burning eyes. He was pale as well, wore a hood and kept a thick black cloak about him. His fellows did the same but they were all wearing heavy black masks whose appearance was unlike anything I've seen. They had glass eyepieces and the surfaces were angular instead of the smoothness of normal steelwork. None appeared to be armed but I know little about weapons." Elena explained. This was in fact an accurate description of men who her little scout had seen working with the immortalist. It was good to have spies. She thought for a moment, she needed this to move in the direction of the immortalist.

"They did bring up the name of the mage - Eizar Khat."

Bloodeye listened to her once again... and found it insane that the culprits would have been so easily caught, were these men also immortal... or was the woman lying through her teeth. He heard the name and started to grind his teeth, a name meant a lead, but where could they get the necessary information... the local gangs might have seen something, anything that could give him an edge over the criminal or criminals. He smashed his hands together, creating an odd ringing in the air, as if a piece of metal was vibrating. If what the woman said was true, he would need to look for men with... from the sounds of it, True Wanderer Helms or some kind of variant.

He gave the woman a slight bow, "Thank you for the information, now if you and your allies would follow me, I must start conducting an investigation and your story and description would help some people remember the criminals. You may bring your servants, but if I see anything that would make me think they are trying to cover something... then I won't be afraid to disarm and arrest them. Just a friendly reminder, while I do have this lead, you are still under suspicion, even if you are not my number one suspect."

With that he began walking around the area, checking the alleys for any side of gangs... easy enough in this city. It wasn't long until he found a few gang members, from their looks they were part of the Firestarters, a group of rogues that had a penchant for fire magic. He walked up to them and made a short bow, "I am SIN agent Morrison Granitefist, but you may know me as the Bloodeye. Now I would like to speak to you about an accident that happened last night and if anyone had seen anything."

The gang members started to draw their knives and even began casting magic, obviously they knew something, even if it wasn't related to the incident. There were only four of them, three of them were casting magic while another had a knife in each hand, trying to slash at Bloodeye's fleshy stomach. Bloodeye brought his arms up into a stiff guard, placing the fists just below his mouth and using the elbows to guard his chest and stomach, he widened his stance to lower himself and sent a single left jab into the gang member's face, knocking him flat.

Bloodeye kept the attacks going, stepping over the dazed and prone rogue so he could deal with the others. Two fireballs came flying, but they were snuffed out when he sent out quick jabs to punch and destroy the flames. The heat would have singed his eyebrows and burned some of his hair... if he wasn't already bald. Black scorch marks now decorated his arms as he closed the distance, sending two jabs to the stomach of one rogue and then twisting his body as he ducked a knife that tried to take his neck, sending a jaw shattering right uppercut. The last one ended his spell and grinned as he charged, moving faster than Bloodeye thought he could, but Bloodeye knew how to deal with fast fighters, especially ones that probably didn't know how to attack on the run.

The gang member took a swing at Bloodeye's left hip, only for a stone elbow to block it. Bloodeye swung himself around as the gang member tried to get to his back, and quickly sent a straight right punch into the man's forehead, sending him sprawling across the ground. The first man he had struck was slowly getting up, only for Bloodeye to grab him by his shirt and force him against the wall, holding him in place with his right hand as he brought his left fist back, "Now talk. Did you, or did you not, see any men in odd masked helmets or a man with odd burning eyes? Speak before you taste stone like your friends." Bloodeye had made sure to pull his punches, a solid punch from him could kill... which meant he had to constantly hold back, it didn't matter if he wasn't the strongest guy... the vibrations the hardness of his fists were more than enough. Now he would have this punk talk and try to find any facts that could lead him to the culprit or debunk the witness's story.
