Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Morrison Granitefist, more commonly known as Bloodeye for his single blood red eye, was being forced to bring in a group of hooligans that were messing with experimental alchemical materials. He looked to a pile of rubble that used to be a house, from a few eye witnesses it was confirmed that some kind of alchemical bomb was used to destroy it... which couldn't have been a coincidence, while others would argue that the scum of society wouldn't have the knowledge, Bloodeye had to disagree, he knew many back alley doctors, alchemists, and other shady businesses, they could have easily bought an alchemist's services.

Bloodeye was an odd sight among the guards inspecting the rubble, he was of average height, broad as a dwarf, and had massive blue stone arms. The rest of his body was flesh and blood, his maug heritage made it so he could never grow hair on his head... but his dwarven heritage made it so a beard grew relatively faster than a normal man's beard, he had to shave three times a week to keep it down to thin stubble. His skin was pale and he had an eye patch covering his left eye, leaving only his blood red right eye. He wore black sleeveless shirt, a thick black cloak, kept on his massive shoulders by a golden chain, he wore black pants, and thick black leather shoes, on his head was a black fedora with a red band.

He sighed as he questioned guards, civilians, anyone that could have a lead on where the bomber went, but no one had anything worthwhile. Once everyone was dismissed, Bloodeye went straight for the back alleys, he would hunt down thugs, beat them down, and gather information the old fashioned way... with violence and threats. Of course normal guards couldn't do that, but he was part of Special Investigations, or SIN for short, which gave him less red tape and more freedom to complete his cases. With those thoughts in mind, he rolled his shoulders as he heard foot steps from all around, he had already attracted a gang, perfect, now was the time to show them how a trained SIN operative fought.

The city of Balefire was its usual bright and blooming self, which is to be taken in all of its sarcastic and clever implications. The sky was its usual shaded color and the sun barely a speck of light in the sky which was a bit better than its usual almost non existence. The city guard worked on their rounds moving through the city to keep the darker things out from the streets and in the cracks and crevices where they came from. Others worked to ensure the lanterns were filled up to the top and ensure that any that had gone dark were immediately filled up and relit.

It seemed like a very bright and blooming as always; darkness in the corners, lanterns on every able tree and post and oh yes,

A building had exploded.

This was definitely not a typical day for any of the citizenry in Balefire. Granted, things usually were not very save here but buildings did not normally go kaboom simply because someone was bored enough.

The female figure that walked through the back alleys thought this, and as such she felt it even more wise to walk around the larger crowds that had disperced through the city. Some of the guards had little to no idea what to look for and anyone seeing her might settle for going after any half demon in sight, even though the town had much worse creepy crawly bumps in the night hanging around.

She pulled her hood down further over her head trying to keep both her face hidden and the cold wind from the changing season away. She paused, her ears pricking at the sound of someone walking her way. Had she been followed? There were several gangs who worked this neighborhood, it would not be unlikely that someone from one of them or several from different ones had seen her and was now following her thinking she was a member of another gang or just a simple victim but in any case there was definitely cause for being on guard.

She found herself in a cross section of street where four small paths intersected. The area at the interception was not too large but it was good enough for watching at least. She backed up towards a wall and reached beneath her cloak at the band against her waist waiting and watching the four paths.

Bloodeye walked the back alleys for a while before he noticed thugs blocking off certain routes, he was being lead to a specific point. Of course he could have broken through the small groups, but that would have only caused unnecessary injuries, it could be much cleaner to just talk to the leader. He soon found himself at a four way intersection, he only had to wait for a few seconds before six men arrived from the alley on his right. Only one of them really stood out, he had tattoos that were literally moving all over his body, flowing like water, he wore no shirt, black pants, and black boots. He constantly moved a hand over his bald head as he spoke, "Whatcha doin' here freak? Didn'tcha here, we just took over this place, the Skull and Bones now rule this turf. So come on, fork over yer money an' maybe we'll ferget this ever happened." Only one of his thugs didn't speak, instead he took a few steps away from his allies.

Bloodeye recognized the man that had stepped away, he was in the last gang that ruled the area and had tasted his rock fists only once, ever since then he has been a valuable snitch and informant. With his informant already out of the way, Bloodeye reached into his cloak, bringing out a polished brass badge. The badge had a large eye in the center with the word 'SIN' below it, just showing the badge was enough to make them stop laughing. Of course one of them pulled out a weapon, fortunately for him, Bloodeye wasn't one to punch first every time.

Bloodeye nodded to them, "Put away the weapon or else I will be forced to subdue you by any means necessary." He put away his badge as the rest drew their weapons, intending on killing the SIN operative before he could report back about the newest gang in the area. The man with the tattoos jumped forward, drawing a short sword, trying to slash Bloodeye's throat. Bloodeye put his stone arms up in front of his face, using it as a sturdy guard to block the short sword, after that it took a single straight punch to the tattooed man's face to knock him flat on his back. Bloodeye looked down at him and grimaced, his enemy would have a broken nose and a few broken teeth, but nothing permanently scarring.

The others shouted and charged him, only to be met by sharp jabs to their hands and chests, keeping them from getting within dagger range. When they started to back off, that was when he noticed the informant run, Bloodeye growled and put his shoulder forward as he ran, crashing through the thugs as he gave chase. He growled before shouting out, "Stop in the name of the law! If you stop now I will be lenient!" Of course that meant only a few days in local jailhouse, but even then it could get pretty ugly, he just had to hope something or someone would get in his way.

She heard the sounds of voices from a bit of a ways off, the sounds were muffled so she could not tell where they were saying though they did sound as though they were coming from the third path, the one west of her. She slowly pulled out her spear and twirled the collapsed weapon in the air from her right hand over the back of her left and caught it as it snapped into full length. She paused as she held it at the ready, waiting and considering if it may be a good idea to go through and see what was going on or if it would be better to simply hang back and wait. While she knew that it might be a bad idea to be seen by people, especially because of her bloodline she could not stand back in the thought that someone may be in trouble, several gangs here were up for throwing a few punches or extorting money if they had the opportunity.

She did not have to wait long for consideration as the sounds got louder and she heard running towards her, she stood at the ready and perked as she heard a voice. "Stop in the name of the law! If you stop now I will be lenient!" she took a stance and nodded to herself. That was definitely the answer she was looking for. A man ran from the west path, he was busy looking behind him to see how far away the man who was chasing him that he did not see her; nor did he see her spear flying through his legs causing him to trip over it. He gave a scream as he fell to the ground, grunting as the gravel and rocks on the road cut into his hands as he threw them out reflexively to catch himself.

He kicked the spear from between his legs and tried to crawl up but found himself fumbling into a figure standing in front of him. She looked down at him, her grey eyes watching him with interest as he stood up and backed away, his foot stepping on the spear and ended up falling backwards again.

The woman shook her head as she rolled the spear onto her foot and bounced it from her foot to knee to hand. He got up and somehow found his courage. He was fighting a woman with a spear, not some big stone fisted officer of the law of course. He gave her a cocky smile. “I do not normally hit women so if you step aside and forget you saw me then I will pretend I did not see you. Maybe I might even be nice and tell you how to avoid my fellow gang members. They are here after all.” He said sidling up to her trying to put a hand on her shoulder.

She gave a smirk, her left canine showing to be longer than normal, ”Mmmm…Nah.” she said as she grabbed his arm and twisted it back behind his head. He tried to punch her but she spun and held the tip of her spear towards his throat. ”You lot really are a piece of work, you know that?” she said as she saw the figure chasing him come up. She was not really sure if he was law or not, some gangsters tried to pull that trick so she readied her spear and herself just in case.

Bloodeye charged after him, his shoulder down, he was planning on ramming him in the back if he could, but it didn't seem necessary as a spear wielding woman captured him. Bloodeye stopped and reached for his badge, pulling it out for the woman to see, "I am Morrison Granitefist, Special Investigations Detective. I thank you for apprehending this gang trash, your help is appreciated." With that done he put his badge away, staring at the gang member's eyes, his one blood red eye staring at him.

The gang member growled as he looked from the spear to the SIN operative, and firmly decided that it would be best to give up. He sighed as he looked at Bloodeye, "Look, I know why you came here Bloodeye, the gangs are going nuts about some kinda alchemical crazies giving out some useful stuff. We're talking Poor Man's Fireballs, instant ice, poisons, and I've heard they've even got their hands on old plans, something about an explosive, it's supposed to be able to level a large house in a flash."

Bloodeye listened to the gang member and nodded, "That matches up with the bombing sight. Explains why we can't exactly tell what kind of alchemical bomb was used, I could look through the old records to find it, after that it would be a simple process of elimination to find who could get their hands on it." By simple, he meant long, boring, and pointless, he preferred to get things going and make some arrests, he needed to take these guys out as quickly as possible.

Bloodeye began pacing back and forth as he spoke his mind, "Okay... so alchemical devices, poisons, and liquids are being created, which means they would need some place loud to cover up the sounds of their experiments. The market street has plenty of possible places... but it's to close to the bombing sight, they would have been found in an hour or so... no, farther away, but still able to see the explosion. Plenty of scents to mess with tracking, needs to be close to a large inn or eatery, something with a strong smell." A single place came to mind, a new eatery that catered Istani cuisine, it had a strong smell that could cover up the smell of tobacco, which meant it could easily overpower a few careful alchemical experiments.

He nodded his head as he pieced it together, "Yes... the Istani eatery would be a good place to start. Strong smell to cover up the smell of alchemy ingredients, it opened recently, and the building that was blown up could be seen from the roof of any house in that area." He realized he had been ignoring the woman and the gang member for a while and made a slight bow, "Sorry, I need to go, if these guys keep on giving out this kind of stuff, we'll have corpses lining the streets. Now you can release the gang member, he has committed no crime that is worth me having to do an hour of paperwork for." It also didn't hurt that if he kept on somewhat friendly terms with him, he might be able to get information from him easier.

The figure who was running after him looked almost like a Maug to her, he had his shoulder down as if he was about to charge him to the ground but he instead stopped and put a hand to his side, pulling out a badge and showing it to her. "I am Morrison Granitefist, Special Investigations Detective. I thank you for apprehending this gang trash, your help is appreciated." She looked it over, it was legit. She watched him as the man looked at him and then at her, obviously figuring out that he was in between a rock and hard place and that the only real way out without losing any blood was to fess up.

"Look, I know why you came here Bloodeye, the gangs are going nuts about some kinda alchemical crazies giving out some useful stuff. We're talking Poor Man's Fireballs, instant ice, poisons, and I've heard they've even got their hands on old plans, something about an explosive, it's supposed to be able to level a large house in a flash." the man said quickly. She shook her head. "You really are a piece of work. First you jump a guy, then you run then you fess up when you realize you can't get away without losing blood. she muttered to the man who looked at her desperately, as if he wanted her to back off now that he spilled. He tried to move away but she adjusted her grip on the spear and he swallowed, staying put and instead making it look like he was simply shifting his weight to his other leg.

"Okay... so alchemical devices, poisons, and liquids are being created, which means they would need some place loud to cover up the sounds of their experiments. The market street has plenty of possible places... but it's to close to the bombing sight, they would have been found in an hour or so... no, farther away, but still able to see the explosion. Plenty of scents to mess with tracking, needs to be close to a large inn or eatery, something with a strong smell the detective muttered to himself as he paced. She gave him a look then glanced at the thug asking him if he did this often. The thug simply tilted his head, side to side and she just shrugged.

The man shifted as the light went on in his mind commenting on an Istani restaurant nearby. Her face screwed up slightly with confusion. She had not heard of any Istani restaurants anywhere near the city, then again she had not been in the city long. The man seemed to remember he was there and gestured, "Sorry, I need to go, if these guys keep on giving out this kind of stuff, we'll have corpses lining the streets. Now you can release the gang member, he has committed no crime that is worth me having to do an hour of paperwork for." he said to her.

She stepped backwards and gestured with her head spinning the spear into its collapsed form. You heard the man kid. she said giving a wink "Bai." The man seemed to take the hint and stepped politely around her, took five calm steps and started running.

She turned back. "I didn't know there was an Istani Eatery in town. Then again I am not really familiar with the area and if it is new then I probably would not know about it. I wonder what istani eat anyway..." she trailed off watching him then grunted, "Lining the streets... If that kid is right then there really will be an epidemic on our hands. Best head that way soon and fast."

He listened to the woman and nodded, "Yes, backup wouldn't hurt. It's not uncommon for SIN operatives to request help from outside sources. Miss, I'm going to need help, I am requesting your assistance in taking down several very dangerous men, of course you will be compensated for your help. Nobody notices some gold leaving our collateral damage budget... I just have to make sure I don't collapse a building." Of course he considered it a victory if he didn't bring down a shabby building in the poorer districts, but his fists were powerful weapons of destruction, which meant a single hit could knockdown poorly built structures.

He pointed down the alley where she had come from, "Yes, it will be about ten minutes of walking through the alleys, almost an hour if we have to go around the main streets. Market street is going to be busy, nobles tend to take up entire portions of other streets with carts, traders using other streets. We might even have to fight a few gang members, but nothing we can't handle, not many people can stand up to my stone fists." With that he started to walk down the street, he realized during this time he could make idle talk, but he was more business, but he should probably say something, "If you have any questions or thoughts please speak them as we walk. I would like to find the criminals and put them behind bars, which means I need you to understand and trust me." It was asking for a lot, but Bloodeye didn't know that absolute trust was something hard to come by, he always gave his complete trust to people he didn't know, he just beat their faces in if he found out they lied.

Umbra paused and turned as she heard the man speak of backup. She was mostly thinking aloud about what was going on, she did not actually expect him to consider her for help, considering her heritage, few people would have even considered her worthy enough to speak to. But the look in the man's blood red eye told her everything she needed to know. "Yes, backup wouldn't hurt. It's not uncommon for SIN operatives to request help from outside sources. Miss, I'm going to need help, I am requesting your assistance in taking down several very dangerous men, of course you will be compensated for your help. Nobody notices some gold leaving our collateral damage budget... I just have to make sure I don't collapse a building." She looked him over, at his hands that seemed to be made of stone and held back a chuckle. "I am certain you could level a building with those.she thought to herself.

She nodded and turned to look at the path that he had pointed at, the one she had come down. "Yes, it will be about ten minutes of walking through the alleys, almost an hour if we have to go around the main streets. Market street is going to be busy, nobles tend to take up entire portions of other streets with carts, traders using other streets. We might even have to fight a few gang members, but nothing we can't handle, not many people can stand up to my stone fists." she nodded as he walked past her to lead the way

"If you have any questions or thoughts please speak them as we walk. I would like to find the criminals and put them behind bars, which means I need you to understand and trust me. he said as she followed him along the streets. "I thank you for the consideration of payment but it is not needed, the protection of innocent lives should not be dependent on the aspect of how much one can pay you. she said I am Umbra by the way, I caught your name back there when the kid said it but I was never able to tell you mine.

She mused over the things she had learned over the course of a few minutes when she had first met Bloodeye, she paused suddenly as a thought occurred to her. "Bloodeye... she began as the situation formed in her mind. "You said that this eatery was "new." Just how new is it?" she asked as the idea fully formed in her mind. If the people doing this had access to large alchemical components and workstations they might have enough funds for a new eatery in town. One that would have been a perfect cover for the true purpose of hiding a place where explosives could be formed.

When she refused payment that gave him pause, not many people refused payment without either being a traitor, a paladin, or a person with abnormally high moral standing. Of course this woman couldn't be a traitor, she would have just let the gang member go if she wanted to stall or betray him, she had stopped him and let him go, she had followed the law. He looked back at the woman and spoke, "Who are you anyway? You're to new to be a gang member, to nice to be a local, and you follow the law. Quite an odd sight in Balefire. As for the money I must give you enough for living expenses at the very least, everyone needs to sleep and eat." If she was a paladin that meant filing an extra two pages in his reports... he just oped she was just a random citizen that wanted to help out.

Once he had his answers he continued to answer her questions, "The eatery opened a week ago, an old condemned building was destroyed and the new store built in a matter of a month. They had all of the proper paperwork, it was all legit, completely clean. Of course they have been ordering more and more spices from Istan... it's a pretty popular place at the moment. I told some subordinates to check it out, of course they probably ignored it and just came here to eat. I swear, sometimes it feels like me and my wife are the only two people on the force that do our blasted jobs." His wife wasn't a low ranked detective like himself, she was the Chief of the SIN, of course he would never admit that to people in the force, otherwise they might think he gets special treatment.

Umbra turned at the question, she seemed to have ruffled a few feathers with the talk of not accepting payment. She looked almost indignant at the the concept of being a gang member. "I told you, I am Umbra Khontis. I am a Paladin and Guardian of the Keepers." she said crossing her arms at the comment about following the law and gave him a pointed look, "And yes. I follow the law. I figured that a detective might be glad of that fact." she said not even going into the 'too nice' comment.

She narrowed her almond shaped eyes as he walked past her and gave a small huff, you would think he never saw a paladin before. Granted she was a half demon and half demon paladins were pretty much non existent save for herself but at the same time, but she shoved the thoughts out of her head as she continued on. People were in trouble and they had to get to work. "The eatery opened a week ago, an old condemned building was destroyed and the new store built in a matter of a month. They had all of the proper paperwork, it was all legit, completely clean. Of course they have been ordering more and more spices from Istan... it's a pretty popular place at the moment. I told some subordinates to check it out, of course they probably ignored it and just came here to eat. I swear, sometimes it feels like me and my wife are the only two people on the force that do our blasted jobs." he muttered and complained.

"That is possible. And it is also possible that it is completely free of anything that might do with this other than they have a group of gangsters nearby." she added. There had to be a good reasonable explanation for this. At least she hoped there was. There were already several different things she had going through her mind and she winced inwardly as she realized she spoke of the Keepers of the Sacred Deed. "As if he isn't already suspicious of me..." she thought to herself.

Bloodeye sighed and rubbed his temples with his large stone fingers, she was a paladin, not just any paladin, but apparently one of a pretty high ranking. Bloodeye shook his head slowly as he walked, "Great, you're a paladin. While I respect your kind I will not allow pointless killing, if you could take as many of the enemy alive as possible I would appreciate it. I will have justice, but I will not deal death to them without a proper court order and execution notice." Despite Bloodeye's looks, he was all about the rules... until they stopped him from doing his job, which made him a rather hard detective to manipulate if he cut through red tape to get to the answers he needs.

He walked the streets and alleys without a word more, his large frame pushing people aside when they had to cut through streets. Two gangs saw them moving, but as soon as they saw the massive stone arms of Bloodeye, they backed off, not wanting to tangle with a member of SIN, especially one that was married to a particularly powerful psychopath, his wife would have used his death as an excuse to play executioner. Just as they arrived at the back of the eatery, a man walked out with a small wooden crate, Bloodeye stepped forward and fumbled with his badge, "I am Detective Bloodeye, SIN Agent. I am going to have to ask you to show me what you have in that crate."

The man looked from Bloodeye to the crate, and then ran, he growled as he started to run after him, "Follow him, I'm going to cut around places and try to cut him off. If you can corner him, do it. I'll be only a road away, just shout my name if things get hairy." With that he started down an alley that had several large wooden crates blocking it, but with his stone shoulder down, Bloodeye charged straight through the obstacle and turned the corner, planning to cut him off as soon as he could.
