| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Now behind the minotaur, Eko came in with her knife and slashed at precise spots. The minotaur's hide was a lot thicker than she was used to, though, and it took a lot more pressure to cut through the tendons she needed to. The jailor was finally taken down in a rather flashy manner by Miriel, who was able to use magic to augment her strikes. Eko stood back and allowed the beast to fall, noting the tiny Avariel's usefulness in combat. "You can go. I'll meet you soon. Get well." She looted the keyring, a small coin purse and a personal memento from the minotaur's body and returned to the cells of the dungeon. Averin wasn't totally awake yet, so she used that t mentally justify opening the key to the armory cell first. Eko sifted through the jackpot of valuables with a trained eye. It was hard for her to fight back the pangs of greed and focus on what she really needed. She took a couple Sheriff tokens, some smaller objects that looked like good fences. Slung the baldric of a hunter over her shoulder which was lined with silver daggers and wooden stakes, and also grabbed a high-quality bullwhip which she coiled into a loop and tied to her hip. Lord Averin was moving around, but not fully aware of what was going on. Eko opened the cell door and pulled him up, holding one arm over her shoulders while she steadied him with her other hand around his waist. The half-dragon Lord mumbled something incoherent as she eased him out of the cell and up the stairs. "Miriel?" she called from the top of the stairs. "Could you look around for some medical supplies? He might have some healing potions in a cabinet or in his kitchen." She took him over to his extensively furnished living room and settled him down onto a couch -- on his stomach, since his wings were broken and looked painful. They awkwardly folded behind him. He looked kind of pitiful. "Lord Averin?" Eko tried. "--gonna kill that backstabbing--" he mumbled. |

"Noted." She said as she ascended the stairs, rummaging through cupboards and cabinets. By sheer chance, as she was rummaging around a cupboard near a bedroom, she triggered a hidden latch and opened a small compartment in the back. "Oh my." She gave a smile, and withdrew a clearly labeled bottle "Unicorns blood" it said, "for emergencies" Making her way back into the room that Eko had propped the lord onto the couch in, she let the bottle swing by its neck in her fingers. "If I recall correctly, unicorns blood is said to be a powerful healing agent, though not without drawbacks, it should be sufficient to cure the worst of his wounds with a few swallows." Handing the bottle to Eko, Miriel turned. "Hrm, no servants, I wo-" "Imposter, sent them all, home." Averin coughed out, anger and outrage evident in his tone as he did so, his eyes filled with impotent rage as he winced, his slight movement agitating his injuries. |

Eko's eyes widened at the sight of the dimly glowing blood. It was probably the most expensive thing she had ever been in such close proximity of. Also the most illegal. "Perfect. I think the situation warrants its use. Averin, swallow this." If Miriel didn't want to administer it, Eko would accept the vial into her own hands and pour it down the Lord of Balefire's throat. Like the winged elf said, all he needed was a swallow or two before his bones snapped back to place and his numerous cuts and gashes healed like new. He still looked dirty and completely un-Lordlike, but that just came with the fact he had been imprisoned in his own dungeon for gods knew how long. "Thank you," he said, pushing himself up. The half-dragon folded his green wings behind himself, regarding the unlikely pair that rescued him. "Who might you two be?" "My name is Eko, and this is Miriel," Eko said. She saw no use in lying about either of their identities. On the other hand, she also thought it would be a good idea to conveniently not mention the fact they had broken into his home and had quite a bit of his valuables stashed in their bags. "You said something about an imposter?" "Yes." Lord Averin bared his gritted teeth: long, draconic fangs filed down to human size. "That damn snake Arasel did it. He promised me several lucrative new properties if I sent my men to tie up a few of his loose ends. Attacked me instead, drank my blood, took my form, and threw me in my own dungeon." Eko's eyebrows raised. He was quite the talkative Lord now that his body wasn't broken. "Do you, er... want us to take care of this Arasel?" Averin swung his hand in a dismissive gesture. "He's too much. I'll need to hire a specialist. I give you both my thanks for this alone." |

Miriel gave a polite bow as Eko introduced her, then lightly slapped her forehead directly after for some reason. The Lord frowned, pausing for a moment. "I wonder though, the imposter is out, so you could not have been visiting hi- ..no matter." He shrugged, once again waving dismissively. "Your rescue of me is enough that I shall not pry to exactly what the pair of you were doing in my home at this hour unsupervised." He took a deep breath to compose himself. "I owe you both my life. Should you have need of a favor, I will grant it to the best of my ability, after I have taken care of that backstabbing traitorous snake!..." He looked utterly murderous as he plotted his revenge, fists clenched, practically spitting out the insults. "Thank you." Miriel was now thinking more clearly, and was to be honest, quite disappointing that Eko had decided that they would be helping Averin. Still, it would probably be the downfall of another lord, so in the end it was a net gain? presumably. ...and a favor from someone in power was not to be turned down she supposed. "Very well. I assume that you have means of contacting someone and ensuring you do not end up in the dungeon again within the day?" |

Lord Averin's lips curled into a reptilian grin. "Why, girl, I am a Lord of Balefire! I have safehouses all over the city. My influence is far and wide-- did you just laugh?" "No. Go on." To be fair, it was more of a quiet, amused snort. She knew Lord Averin had one of the most condensed territories of all the Lords: only Wirthton, a small neighborhood in northwestern Balefire. And the denizens of Wirthton didn't even like him that much. "My influence is far and wide, so if need be I can simply disappear as I plot the death of that bastard snake." Eko was starting to wonder if Arasel was literally a snake. She briefly imagined Averin's face on the body of a serpent and found that thought to be too disturbing to continue. "...If you say so. We should be going, then. Good luck." They walked outside, each carrying a fortune in their pockets. If all the Lords of Balefire were that foolishly inane, Eko's wealth would rival the Marquise. Once the two of them were far enough away from both the estate and any potential eavesdroppers, Eko stopped and turned to face Miriel. "Thank you. You've proven yourself worthy of my trust after all. If you ever need a job in the future, come find me." |
