| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

It was darker than anyplace on this plane that he had been, dark enough that the lycan knew were it not for his ties to the Plane of Shadows, he would not be able to see whatsoever. Far below the surface of the ocean known as the Moonsea, Ulfr swam deeper and deeper, seeking solitude. The elvish druid in the deeper parts of the Norwood Forest, the very same druid that had heightened Ulfr's regenerative abilities, had been helping Ulfr to unlock what magical and natural powers lay latent in him. He had developed new organs, the growth of which had been uncomfortable, as if he were recovering from a deep tissue wound. However, the discomfort was well worth the gain. For example, he now had gills, and had no need to wear that silly oyster shell collar around his neck. His affinity for water magics was the orgin for the gills, and that is how the old elf had brought them to be. The potential for them had already been there, the elf had simply tapped into that potential brought it out from deep within Ulfr. He was thrilled to have them and what advantages they gave him, though testing them out was not why he had swam as far down as he had. No, Ulfr was here to confront the unwelcome visitor that had plagued him and his mind for some time now. A demon, an Abbadon more precisely, by the name of Sithis was resident in Ulfr's mind. The demon had latched on to him when he was a babe, but did not make himself known until a year or so ago. The Four-Armed Fiend of blood and destruction had made moves to overtake Ulfr's will, but had never been successful, the battle for control always being waged. Except that it had stopped recently, something that Ulfr did not take notice of immediately. He had been preoccupied with a sudden surge in his power and mastery of shadows. The lycan's Innate Shadow Magic had expanded exponentially in strength, intwining him ever more to the Shadowplane, realm of illusory realities and factual falsehoods; a place of what is, is not and what is not, is. Always changing and shifting, the environment of the Shadowplane is never definite. True to its nature, however, it always is definite. Definite and Indefinite, antonyms that so accurately describe the place; yet they are horribly inaccurate at the same time. Ulfr had been musing over his mental description of the place that had staved off the demon's attempts to control Ulfr, to possess him. Most would think having a demon in them meant they were possessed. Grinning his wolfish grin with dark satisfaction, Ulfr had realized that he was merely inhabited, and thanks to the powers granted to him from the connection he had to the Shadowplane, Sithis could not possess him, nor could he escape. This fact was what drove him to this dark empty depth of the sea. He had no idea how far down he was, only that he had been swimming for what seemed like hours, continuously diving deeper and deeper. Finally, he stopped. Pushing his right arm up and his left down, he rotated them until his left was up and his right was down. Again, he rotated them, returning his right to being up and his left to being down. He continued doing this, slowly increasing the speed at which he did. Ulfr was focusing an enormous amount of energy into this spell, the water around him beginning to follow the motion of his arms. Suddenly, Ulfr clasped his hands together and positioned his legs as if he were sitting cross-legged, the water spinning and circulating around him with great force, and the werewolf receded deep into his mind. There was no light, only darkness, yet he could see perfectly. There was water that was not water, but was air. At least that was what it was supposed to be. It would not impede movement, but it was obviously water. His feet were on solid ground, the grass of the forest clearing around him a comfort to his bare feet. Across from him stood the demon, Sithis. His eyes were glowing a dark red imbued with such anger and hatred, and a lust to rip apart the werewolf in front of him, glaring at the lycan. A blood colored liquid-like substance covered his large and muscled ten foot tall body, as he flexed his twenty fingers and four arms, quivering at resisting the urge to launch into a bloody onslaught on rage and destruction. There, across from Ulfr, stood Sithis. It has been a while, hasn't it Sithis? Tell me, why have you stopped visiting? After all, I thought we were "comrades"? Ulfr mocked the demon using a term Sithis often used, his voice reverberating in this mental arena. Sithis growled at him, his lips pulled up into a snarl. You know why; your acursed Shadow Magic, something you inherited from your mutt mother, pup. Ulfr's head twitched, feeling the demon's influence reaching out to him. The comment had pissed him off, but he knew he shouldn't be subject to Sithis control. He tried to appear unusrprised, apparently failing. Wondering why my bloodlust started to creep up on you? Coming here like you have, you have forfeited the protection bestowed upon you, at least from me; you have willing come here, and as our conciousnesses touch, my will shall overcome you mutt! Sithis shouted the last bit of his sentence, and charged Ulfr as the environment took on a decidedly red hue. Ulfr faltered and fell to a knee, the demon's presence becoming overwhelming. He mentally fought back, trying to stave Sithis's influence off. As the demon stumbled slightly, though not enought to halt his charge, Ulfr realized that he could exert his own influence. Rolling to the right as Sithis made a swing for him, Ulfr leapt at Sithis, instantaneously shifting to his werewolf form as he roared. The demon swung his arm again, hitting Ulfr and sent him careening in the other direction. He twisted in the air and managed to land on his feet though he hit the ground hard, grimacing and growling ferociously as he did so. His sole momentary thought about that was that Sithis was unbelievably powerful. Sithis smiled after the thought passed, leading Ulfr to believe that even here like this thoughts might as well be spoken aloud. When the Abbadon smiled even wider with evil pleasure, Ulfr felt this was affirmed. This was truly going to be a trial, one he feared he might not accomplish. Sithis began to laugh, and suddenly was upon Ulfr though he had not moved and punched the lycan in the head, accompanied by a swift kick to his forehead that sent Ulfr sailing through the air-water. His back hitting a tree, again Sithis was upon him, grabbed him and threw him in the opposite direction, hitting yet another tree face first and falling to the ground. Sithis was there, moving impossibly fast and stomped Ulfr in the chest once, twice, thrice, a seemingly endlessly amount of times increasing in speed until his leg was invisible for all practical purposes. Jumping on top of Ulfr, Sithis began to pummel him with his fists at a blindingly fast velocity, each blow pushing Ulfr further into the ground. The pain was inconceivable. Red. The environment had become much more red in coloration, it was almost all his eyes could register. Sithis's outline was still visible, and the Abbadon's eyes were a darker red than was even possible and still be red in color. Evil glee could be seen in the demon's eyes as he shouted You're mine Ulfr! Red. His blood was splattering all over everything, and was even mixing with the air-water. Sithis grinned ear to ear, the demon's white teeth a stark contrast to all the red around them, even though the white blended with the red. Eventually it was red, Ulfr's blood plastering them as Sithis licked his lips and began to laugh. So much red. It reminded Ulfr of the night he had pushed Kaylen out of the bandit's sword's way, instead taking it in the chest himself. His blood had splashed out and pattered on the floor, its sound mixing with that of the rain. That night... that was the night his friendship with Higoru had begun. A sort of peace fell over the lycan as he thought of his friend, though short-lived it was. Red. He closed his eyes and recalled the night and the demon that had taken his friend from him. The Blood Ball. Chaos had tore his friend apart right in front of Ulfr's eyes. Ulfr remembered how he had rushed towards Chaos, slaughtering all the fiends of Chaos's that were dumb to get between and Chaos. The demon had escaped that night, but he swore vengence for all of those that had been slain that night. For Kellen. For the Woodsons. For Higoru. Red. That was what he saw as he opened his eyes, wrath and resolve evident in them. No! he screamed, and a blast of energy launched Sithis off of him. Ulfr stood, beaten and battered, as Sithis picked himself up from the ground. I refuse to die! I've come to far to fall here! At your hand! NO!! I REFUSE!! Ulfr was screaming and roaring in protest, inconsistantly shifting between hybrids of his werewolf and human forms, never staying one way for long. He wasn't actively doing this, but his emotions were in an uproar. He was wide-eyed and crazed looking. You helped kill my parents! You reveled at the destruction of Kellen at the Blood Ball! You loved watching Chaos kill HIGORU!! NO MORE! I AM STRONGER! I WILL CONQUER YOU! I WILL AVENGE HIGORU! I WILL TAKE YOUR POWER AND I WILL ERASE ANYONE OR ANYTHING LIKE YOU AND CHAOS!!! Sithis roared in defiance and charged Ulfr yet again, but he didn't make it to the lycan. Ulfr screamed in agony and remorse, in anger and hatred, and three black tentacles latched onto the demon. Two wrapped around his arms, and a the last grabbed his throat, Sithis struggling against them, screaming I am Sithis, I am bloodlust, I am DESTRUCTION!!! The environment became shrouded in a dark, dark blue, falling under Ulfr's influence and control. Ulfr approached him, still shifting uncontrollably. You are nothing. I am Ulfr. I am werewolf. The blood of my enemies will stain my fur. Your blood, I will wear as a cloak in this manner. You have fought me long enough, always having the upper hand, always being stronger. You fight for yourself. You think me weak and pathetic because I care for the well-being of others, others who I could easily kill in a brief moment. You think me weak because I do not cut them down. Skin you. Chaos killed so many we of Kellen cared for and held dear to our hearts. You think me weak because their deaths hurt me. Ulfr paused, pacing back and forth in front of the demon. Wolves hunt in a pack; not because they are weak, but because what they hunt can very well be stronger than they are alone. They hunt together, they eat together, they live as one. I hunt Chaos, yet he is much stronger than I am. I hunt him because he devastated Kellen, and killed my best and first humanoid friend. Higoru was more dear to me than my own life. You know how close to insanity I came at his death. The Blood Ball was created under the facade of celebrating the kinship of Kellen. In a way, that atrosity brought us closer together. We suffered as one, we bled as one. Our wound still pains us. But the memory of those loss and the love of those that remain keep us going. Higoru keeps me going and Kellen, my family, keeps me going. Klesci keeps me going. As long as they are my light, then I shall delve into the deepest darkness and conquer all that sows evil beneathe its veil! At this, Sithis broke free of the tentacles grip and lunged at Ulfr, but the werewolf was the faster one this time. Ulfr shifted to and remained in his werewolf form, grabbing Sithis by the neck and slamming him on ground. Again the tentacles grabbed him, pinning his arms and legs, two limbs per shadow tentacle. Ulfr crouched over the demon's chest, his legs on either side and knees in Sithis's lower armpits. The lycan's clawed paw clamped around the demon's throat as Ulfr pointed his right paw and drew it back. The blood of my enemies will stain my fur; their blood will spill at my feet. I will destroy them for the evil they have done to the innocent and the good-honor-hearted. More importantly, they do not fall by my power alone, but by the strength bestowed upon me by my bloodmates; those who hunt with me, eat with me, sleep with me, live with me, they are my bloodmates. Whether they still breathe or death has claimed what it can of them, their blood is my blood too, our blood runs through my veins. For these reasons, I am Ulfr Bloodpelt, werewolf protector of Kellen and those that cannot protect themselves, friend of Higoru, and raised by Pack Alpha Aldan. For these reasons, I spill your blood, claim your power, and end you. With that, Ulfr plunged his claw through the chest of Sithis and pulled out the demon's heart. The Abbadon watched the werewolf eat his heart with angry defeat in its last few seconds of free will. Now, Sithis's power was Ulfr's power. Ulfr's body relaxed and floated briefly, then began to sink. The water around him calmed, when he awoke, the werewolf would return to the world above. And he would hunt Chaos.
