Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Decay, venom, fear, pain, dew, blood, and the satisfaction of a clean kill and fresh meat. These scents permeated the wood, assaulting the nostrils of the night beings and dark walkers that dared to travel these dreary and dreaded woods. The common creatures of the realm did not journey through this forest without dire need, the small and insignificant dare not even think of it. However, those who could command fear and respect in the monsters residing here had less to worry about, their own monstrous nature providing them a sort of higher standing among the denizens of the webs. Lynthaer was one who possessed such a nature.

Hiding among these old trees for a time, he had escaped the rest of the realm and those who hunted him. He had lost touch with those he led to battle, those who once feared his name, and the general workings of the world. Here he dwell, in silence and solitude, feasting on beasts, and slaying arachnids who dared try to feast upon him. He hunted the forest, looking for foolish travelers and idiotic thrill seekers hunting for treasures, honing his skills. His anger and hatred for the realm and it's inhabitants stewed and fermented in his sort of self exile as he let time pass him by. At this moment, a large ground dwelling arachnid was the focus of his rage.

The creature was down to 6 legs now, had a nasty burn across it's "face" which removed 4 of it's eyes from service. A large gash across its abdomen oozed fluids that stank of venom and rot. Lynthaer was only slightly battered, suffering from an initial hit when it had charged him. He had toyed with it for the last couple of minutes, wearing it down as punishment for causing him to lose his prey. However, his hunger was rising due to the exertion of combat, and this thing would not make for good eating. The best choice of action would be to slaughter it and start hunting again. he would have to travel further away from his own "nest" now. The commotion with this fool monster no doubt frightened away all potential prey.

Poison dripping from fangs the size of a human arm, the spider decided to rush him as he pondered how to finish it. His plan of a slow burning death was replaced by quick and agonizing. Damnable, oversize bug should have run away. A quick word and a flourish of a hand, a dark bolt of energy flew from his fingertips, striking the spider full in its face. Not five steps away from him it collapsed, grinding to halt, still hissing it's last breath. Lynthaer snarled at the corpse in disgust. He was growling tired of these woods. Soon he would leave...perhaps by the time night fell and he could travel freely. Sniffing the air, he paused...perhaps after he discovered the owner of that unusual scent.

Niki was walked through some woods when she heard the sound of fighting. Niki wandered around until she found a slightly odd sight. A demon-looking thing was standing over what looked like a giant Spider...

Niki didn't know what to do, seeing as she hadn't been here to much. She looked around, trying to figure some way of either, making her presence known, or walking away before it became known. Unfortunately, her hiking heels stepped on a twig, and broke it. "God dammit!" Niki said. She looked up at the large demon to see if he heard. Knowing her sometimes luck...He probably did.

Niki decided that she wasn't going to just hide there. She walked out into the small clearing. She had no idea what would happen, but kept her hand at her hip, in case she needed her sword. She kept her sword hidden in her cloak, and axe safely on her back. She had told her pets to stay back and guard her meat, in case anything tried to steal it.

The snap of the twig and curse gave away the intruder. Lynthaer's head snapped towards the sound, red eyes flashing beneath his mask, nostrils widening as dead lungs pumped air through them in a effort to identify this new being. The taint of the abyss was in the air, one not his own. Unless some other demonic being roamed nearby, this thing was touched by another realm.

It appeared to be a she, and one with some confidence as Lynthaer witnessed her striding towards him. His eyes scanned her up and down. He noticed the axe, but saw no other weapons, though he would rule nothing out unless he had a corpse to search. There was no reason for it to come to that of course. He moved his hand to his waist, grasping his sword of drainage firmly. His scythe and second sword were easily visible to her on his back. His deliberate movement and acknowledgement of her presence, along with apparent lack of hostility on her part should mean no confrontation. While he was hungry, she did not seem like the normal wayward traveler to feast upon. No, she was walking information, and much easier to question alive while not swinging that axe of hers.

Lynthaer prepared himself to talk, his voice unused for conversation for months. Mumbling to words to a spell did not prepare one for interaction with intelligent beings. Standing still and ready, he greeted his visitor in a rough, unused voice. "I greet you, my Lady, and welcome you to this wretched hole in which you find yourself in. To what do I owe the presence of your company?"

Niki noted the Demons visible weapons, and could guess that, one like him, probably held other little hidden secrets. Niki decided that she didn't want to fight with someone who had much more experience than she did. She knew better than to test her skills with someone of a high level of battle. She noted the mask, and other little things that would point Niki to that conclusion.

"And you. I heard the sound of fighting, and wanted to know who was killing who. It seems you where battling with a large arachnid. I'd offer my help, but it seems you have it under control." She said. She nodded towards the corpse that he seemed to be standing over. Though it would've been rude to point out, and had Niki been in a better position she would have, it seemed that this Demon hadn't used his voice in a while. A long time, it seemed. His voice sounded as though there had been no company for this being in months, at the very least. She could understand why someone wouldn't want to speak with someone like this, but, she found company of this nature much more welcoming now a days.

"I find this hole could be a lot worse than what you put it off to be." Niki said as she looked around. She had a thought, but would wait to see what happened to see if she would speak this thought. Divschatten? She thought to herself as she looked over the Demon once again. It seemed to echo in her head, as though to say something. She couldn't be sure what though, and had patience to wait and see.

Lynthaer looked down to the creature he had just slain. "They are simple, wretched beasts. Driven by hunger and a need to kill, they are easily anticipated as long as you do not fear them. I never found the need to. This one decided I would make a good meal and interrupted me in the catching of my own, thus why it resides in it's current state."

Who would wander this forest with such a calm demeanor? he obviously did, but he was shut away from the world, limiting interactions to simple beasts an idiotic thrill seekers. The lady however seemed less permanent than he. Almost as if this were a pleasant stroll through fields, on the way to the nearest village. That, and she seemed to be analyzing everything. He gaze had gone from him to the spider, and was now surveying their surroundings as if looking for...anything. Seeking knowledge and understanding, not frightened by the deep shadows, the glint of multi-lense eyes in the dark that regarded them with hunger and lust. Wary, yes, but she appeared in no way to Lynthaer as fearful. Perhaps she was simply master of her appearance. No matter the case, Lynth was intrigued. His first "visitor" in months, and one not screaming and running for their sad life. Not yet anyway. Lynthaer felt his hunger rising. She was in no danger yet, and he doubted she would come to such without him making the decision to feed on her. But this was the Spiderhaunt. Already he had been attacked unawares, and multiple battles would leave him increasingly drained. To many and he ran the possibility of becoming feral, and there was only one person who had a chance of calming him from that.

Lynthaer turned his smoldering gaze back to the woman. Names were dangerous, especially his. To ask hers would say he was willing to give his, and that he was not ready to do. Nor did he feel like lying at the moment. If she knew enough, the mask, the scythe, and the eyes might have already given him away. Best let her offer her own. She was the intruder here, this wood more his home than hers. He would lead with silence, answer what must be answered, and see if she could be deemed worthy enough to leave with her life. The largest reason she still held it now was the obvious demons blood that flowed through her veins, making her a potential ally. However, the same blood craved madness and destruction, and could easily see a way to make a name for itself by slaying him. He smiled beneath scared, blackened leather. he would relish the challenge should it come to that.

"True, there are more hellish holes than this. The forest outside of Balefire for one is treacherous throughout, not just a small part. The Underdark is a very unwelcome place, and the desert, though I have not been to that scorched wasteland. Here, though, is not quite friendly. It is secluded, however, thanks to the multitude of massive web building devils such as these," he said, gesturing to the spider's corpse. "As such, the more fiendish people of the realm may find seclusion without interruption of lesser races." He stared pointedly at the new comer, watching for signs of acknowledgement. He knew part of her racial background...did she figure his?

Niki looked back at him. Again, she wanted to know if he held anything to the Guild... She had to ask. Perhaps in a little bit. For now, she would just bounce off of what he said. "It seems that hunger is what drives most of the beings in this world..." She said. As Niki said this, she looked the demon in the eye. His mask was something that also held interest to her. What was behind there? A large scare? Or perhaps a birth defect? Or, maybe, just maybe, he wore it hide something...

As she listened politely to the Demon give off names of places that held fear within them, she picked up a few things. One, it seemed he had been on Imythess for a while, seeing as he traveled quit a bit. Two, he, much like Niki, thought of other races as lesser. And, third, he seemed to be hiding something. A small smirk left her lips as she thought of an answer. "Lesser? What would go under that category?" She didn't really know what she expected as an answer from that, but she knew that would give something.

"Yes, I have been to Balefire. I met my...Well, I don't know what you would call him, but..." Niki picked her axe from her back, and started to admire the sharp edge. She had no wish to use it, she just liked to watch the blade jump off the light. "...Does the name Chaos ring any bells?" Niki asked. She looked over the top of her axe at the demon, another smile finding it's way to her face. She waited as the Demon answered.

Lynthaer chuckled. "Hunger drives people indeed, but only the mindless let their hungers consume them, letting it lead them down hopeless paths. To hunger is not wrong. To let your hunger rule you is utter foolishness. Many people in this realm fall into that trap. I myself payed prices." His hunger for renown had trapped him in the abyss as Taras was razed to the ground. Spells too strong for him to handle, forces to large to control, and powers beyond his limits. He had tried to harness the power of a god, and he failed utterly. Lynth scowled at the memory momentarily, then returned his thoughts to the matters at hand.

The next statements she voiced made Lynthaer blink. Obviously she had picked up on his hint that he knew her demon origins. The name he had never heard before, but that was not surprising. Seclusion did that. Her mannerisms during the questioning was the true reason he paused. The distracting was she unshouldered axe and simply checked it's edge. It did not seem a threat to Lynthaer. Merely the kind of action one did when they needed something else to focus their mind on. Almost like a nervous twitch, or fidgeting when under the question. It seemed to Lynthaer that this lady was trying to lead him down a path. Those somehow bound to the abyss was likely the target she was trying to aim him towards, but unless it was Divschatten, he knew nothing of it. If the guild had lasted without him, it was very likely that those of demonic heritage would have found it, and would know those within it. However, as he was the creator, to not know him seemed either improbable or an insult. Granted, his face, or mask, had not been see within the halls of Choronzon Gebäude for over a year. But to be forgotten already?

Lynthaer's curiosity was on the rise. Whomever this 'Chaos' was, this lady obviously believed him to be note worthy, especially among the fiendish population. Lynthaer did not find her true feelings for the man relevant at the time, but he made a note to observe the two should he see them together. That was, if there was a reason for him to see them together. If this conversation did not become a dead end with her lying on the forest floor missing a throat and most of her blood. With nothing to lose that he could see, and at least a meal to gain, he decided to give her the pleasure and took the bait.

"Lesser beings being those who find it necessary to adhere to strict moral codes. To follow the petty rules of gods who preach love and acceptance. Those who let the weak rule, the incompetent to breed, and worthless to live. Those who are graced with the blood of the Abyss, however, find it much easier to rise above such simple, petty notions. Strength and cunning give demonkin a step above the rest. Less monstrous greed than pure demons, and less selfish, pious notions than the bloodless." His eyes burned ever so slightly more, flickering as he felt disgust for the moral laden fools. "As for this Chaos, I have never heard of him. Is he a new bringer of woe? A simple marauder?" Lynthaer grinned, and his hand tightened around his sword's hilt in case she found reason to attack him. "Or perhaps you speak of Divschatten?"

Niki choose to disregard the comment about the lesser demons, his first comment. She agreed, but that would come at a later time. She kept her axe out, choosing to look over the top of the blade again as the Demon spoke of the guild. "Hmmm..." She said. Then, Niki put her axe away. She didn't want to seem threatening when speaking of the only home she had now.

"So you know of the guild...Chaos is leading it for now in AD's absence." Niki spoke with care as she said Chaos' name. She was, after all, more than a mere guild member. Niki noted as the Demon's hand seemed to fall to his hip. A sword maybe? She thought. Niki never took anything for granted now a days. If he was preparing for a fight it would be on his terms. She had no want or reason to battle with him. And, should she do this, Niki would probably end up dead, hidden in this forest the rest of days.

Taking the conversation in a circle, Niki went back to what he said before, picking up on his last sentence. "You? Fall pry to hunger? That seems unlikely to me, the way you stand before me now...What would cause you to fall pry to hunger? Power, maybe?" Niki had no idea what she was saying. She took a few steps to her right, keeping her eyes trained to the Demon. She was hoping to drag something out of him besides hints to a truth she didn't know. Flattery was one of the best ways to get information out of someone that you want. Niki hadn't used flattery in a long time, but, she thought that she had pulled it off well enough.

Lynthaer growled ever so softly. This was news indeed. Another entity had taken control of Divschatten. One he had not heard of and knew nothing about. Had they over thrown Aether, or had she left it to them? She could be fragile at times, and he was without a doubt that she would step aside from someone more aggressive and dominant. If she had been killed however, there would be blood.

With this information, Lynthaer found he had no more interest in playing games with this woman. Now he wanted answers, and they would be given to him with having to beat around the bush. Obviously from her actions and mannerisms this lady was connected to the new ruler of Divschatten, which in all likelihood placed her in the guild as well. That was all the better. Lynthaer was the founder and true leader, and he would not be denied answers or knowledge by own who dared claim be affiliated with his band of demons. The contents of this woman's mind were his by right and he would have them.

Lynthaer began to pace around the lady Slowly, ever so slowly tightening the circle. So she seeked to flatter him as well? She did not understand yet that he was done being coy. Droppings, vague remarks and the like were of no use anymore. He grinned wickedly behind his mask. Time for him to take full control over the situation.

"I don't seem the type to be afflicted with hunger? Oh, I am nothing but hunger. For one, a vampire rarely ever stops having a deep thirst for the crimson flow that runs through the veins of the living. A simple hunger, but one I fall victim to many times. You have no idea the insanity it brings about in a person when held at bay for too long. And that is just the most basic of my hungers." He paused in his pacing and looked her in the eyes. The burning Infernos that dwelt within his sockets flashed and flickered ever brighter, and a waves of heat began to slowly roll off of him. "You obviously do not know the origin of Divschatten. Who it was, and what happened to to him." he began his slow, tightening circuit again, eyes locked on hers. "The leader who lead them against Taras. Who summoned from a stone hordes of otherworldly beings that were far beyond his control. The dealings he had with a shadowy figure who manipulated the planes he existed in. The pain he endured when he body and soul were dragged to the abyss in exchange for the destruction of Taras, and the endless days he spent in drowned in fear and rage as he battled a long bloody path out." Lynthaer's voice low now, a growling whisper as he rambled off his doing. "I am Divschatten. I am Lynthaer, and you belong to me." He stood but a few feet from her now, his body temperature putting off uncomfortable waves of heat, his eyes furnaces.

"Enough with the games woman," he growled as he halted and faced her. "Your name and your purpose, or it will be her heard. I have a thirst and you are the only tasteful meal in sight at the moment. I don not wish to feed on you, but if you prove to be useless, then I will have no regrets in doing so. What has happened to Aether, and what are your dealings with the guild?"

Niki smiled. He knew the guild, at very least. As he started to circle around her, Niki only stepped in unison with him, staring him down as much as he was staring her down. She'd answer his question, his comments. No problem. As long as he didn't try to be a tyrant towards her. Niki knew her place, but that didn't mean that she had to like it all the time.

"I don't 'know the insanity of being held back from hunger'? I hunger for flesh as much as you do. I need it to live, and to breath as much as a vampire. Don't think I don't know what it is like to feel the thirst and the pain of not having flesh..." As Niki said this, her eyes started to shift slightly redder than they had been before. As he kept eye contact, she was sure that he noticed this.

She nodded. Chaos had mentioned the creature of the guild. He hadn't gone into depth for it, saying that would be another story for another time, or something like that. "Alas, no. I do not know of whom made the guild. But, I yearn to meet him. I wish give him thanks. Without the guild, I wouldn't know anything about this land..." It was close to the truth. Without the guild, Niki would've become a cold stone killer, feeding on the flesh of anything living without a moments notice. With the guild, she had been able to stay true to her nature. I woman who, though was rough around the edges at time, knew how to be classy, if needed.

She raised an eyebrow at his last words. "I? Belong to you? I belong to no man or woman of this realm, and that isn't about to change." Niki said this the intensity of a thousands suns. She knew what it was like to 'belong to someone' and the closest that anyone came to that was Chaos. Even he didn't have a good hold on Niki, though. "I am Niki Iceblood. My purpose is simple; find others to join 'your guild'." You could just feel the quotation marks that Niki put into her words. She didn't mean anything by them, but she knew that it would spark something in Lynthaer's eyes. "As for your precess 'Aether', I haven't heard nor see anything of her since I first joined. Rumor has it that she lost her mind." Niki shrugged. She didn't know if she believed that, but who knew? "If you choose to feed on me, than you will have more than one person breathing down your back. I understand that you hold place in the guild, but until you go over there and take it from Chaos, and 'Aether', than you are nothing more than a fellow member to me." Niki said. She spoke with much confidence. She held information about the great Lynthaer's guild, and knew that he needed that in order to make himself feel better.

The whole time that he walked in the circle around Niki, slowly coming closer and closer, Niki looked him back in the eye. She knew that, for now, he wouldn't do anything to her. For now. Who knew about the future?

Lynthaer began to smile as Niki showed her grit. A calm, silent and curious exterior, but underneath was a rage that he had just awakened. She was gaining his approval now. Even if he was the leader, those below him showed not be quelled easily when confronted, even by him. Her lack of knowledge concerning who he was however still angered him. That she considered someone else above him was unacceptable, and would need to be remedied.

"Your ferocity as good, though misplaced. And I hold more than a place in the guild. I lead it in the destruction of this realms centerfold city, razing it to the ground. My place as leader must be reestablished if you lack such knowledge however. Your Chaos and I must chat I believe." He paused, pondering what to do with this Niki Iceblood. Already she had told him much. Chaos could be assumed to be in charge of Divshcatten, and Aether was hurt again. Both were things that upset Lynthaer, but he was not going to be ruled by that feeling. He did need to make his way back to the fortress though.

"Like it or not, Niki, you belong to my guild, therefore you belong to me. You are soldier. My soldier. Rest assured though you will never be in more danger than I myself have been in. I do not know how Divshcatten has been run in my absence, but I will assume my place at the top again." Lynthaer needed to be diplomatic now. To control a band of demons, simple ferocity was enough. but these were half fiends and infused. Their monstrous nature was tempered by cunning and intelligence. Assurance and calm control worked as well much of the time. He had plans for Divshcatten, and he needed the back of all. One blow had been struck, but never followed with a second. It was time that they showed themselves to be a threat, not just a destructive anomaly.

"Tell me of Chaos. I need to know the mind behind Divschatten at the moment."

Niki raised an eyebrow. He just wasn't getting it, was he? It didn't matter if he made the guild, Lynthaer was not in charge of it right now, and therefore held no more place in her mind than she did. Same rank as she had, same level. For now, they where equals in her mind. Now, if that where to change, she of course would get a different mind set. But, until that happens, her loyalty as leader stays to Chaos, and not Lynthaer. "Understand this before I say anything else." Niki wasn't going to pushed around by someone who left their guild. She squinted her eyes a little as she said this, hoping to make the point hit home just the littlest more. "I don't give a damn if you made the guild. You are not leading as a good leader should be. Where have you been since Taras fell? As far as I can tell, you've been hiding in a hole in the forest, feeding on spiders and other such creatures. Prove me wrong on that, Lynthaer, and then we may be getting somewhere with you being a leader in my book." When she spoke of where he had been, Niki pointed her finger at him, shoving it in his chest. She wanted this point to get through his thick skull, if none of the others did. Whether he liked it or not, Niki was going to be up front with him. Where had he been all this time? Surely he couldn't have been spending all this time in the forest? If he had that made him weak. He wasn't brave enough to face the guild that he ran away from. He choose instead to hide in the forest like a little scared boy. The thought made her laugh.

Niki continued without giving Lynthaer room to speak. "Going along with that, I will not hold you to the leader status until you take the position. Once you take back your guild, I will do what is asked of me. Within reason, of course. But, until then, I will not bow to you." Niki spoke only the truth, and she held as much confidence in those words as she felt. Which was lot. If Lynthaer wanted her respect, he was going to have to earn it. And as it stood in her mind, the only respect he was that he made the guild, he brought an end to Taras, and he was willing to fight to get it back. Though, that was countered with one, big thing that, in her eyes, made him a weak being. Hiding from the guild that he made? What kind of leader hides from their own guild? Not a good one, that is for sure.

Niki looked Lynthaer in the eyes. Anger. Misplaced? A funny thing to think about. "Yes...I believe 'talking' with him will do some good. Make it clear who I should hold as a leader... As for the 'misplaced ferocity', I find it perfect where it is. Pointing the guilt at the one who left." Niki clearly thought that Chaos would end up folding. As much as she loved the demon, she knew that Lynthaer would have to take back his place as the leader. He seemed to hold it in a different light from Chaos, and therefore would take care of it differently.

Niki smiled. As much as she hoped not, she was sure that talking would not be easy between the two. Chaos would not fold easily. That much she knew.

"I can not explain the mind set of Chaos. He is much the same you and I, and yet different. As for his plans for the guild, I have not spoken to him and do not know what he is thinking. Surely though, the one thing that you two have in common is that you wish to bring the guild back to it's former glory." Niki started to walk to her right, leaving Lynthaer standing in front of the tree. "You'll have to ask him yourself. I have a feeling that a gathering may be happening..." As much as Niki didn't want to believe it, she was sure that, as they spoke, members of the guild where making their way to the halls. She didn't know why, or how, or when, but she knew somehow...

Or perhaps it was just her mind playing tricks? It seemed odd that both she, and the leader of the guild would be heading there at the same time. Of course, she thought that Vernon may be hiding there, Rimmon was off doing her own thing, and AD was...being AD. Niki didn't understand that one. There was just something about her that Niki didn't like. She turned half her face back to Lynthaer, keeping the rest of her body facing the opposite direction. "Take back the guild, and then we'll start talking..." Niki had half a mind to leave then. Instead, she unfolded her wings, and stretched them, as though to show that she would be taking off momentarily. If Lynthaer really needed to speak with her more, he'd ask her to stop. But, as far as she could tell, this conversation was coming to a close.
