We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Akala had come to Striberg with the intention of enrolling in the magical academy - wanting to try her hand at that long, self-promised book learning. And maybe figure out why she was suddenly able to talk to plants or why this rose ivyn wouldn't stop following her around. And why the plants called her "floramancer," despite the fact that she felt she lacked so many of the abilities common to that school of magic. But she had arrived and Striberg and found not a peaceful university town, but a city at war. A woman called the White Queen had called for the city's surrender and sent an army to enforce that desire. Her icy castle clung to the City of Magic like a tumor. Well, Akala wasn't about to sit by and let that go. Not with thousands of lives at stake. So she put her education aside (again) and signed up with a company of mercenaries working to pierce the defenses of the queen's fortress. And, after weeks of combat, they'd finally managed - an error on the enemy's part allow Akala and another mage to hold the secondary portcullis open when the berserkers charged out. Cloaked by an invisibility spell, the company had ducked in behind the berserkers before the first portcullis could drop and were through the barbican and into the courtyard before the mages released the second portcullis. It fell with a clang, shutting them inside. They'd made it as far as the inner bailey before the trouble started. A golem, altered by the White Queen herself, perhaps, found them and attempted to make short work of them. It failed, but took out four company members before the rest were able to finish it off. The mage recast the invisibility spell and they hustled themselves through a door and into the inner walls. After that it seemed like it was just one accident after another. They stumbled into traps they had checked for and not found. They crossed paths with roving bands of fighters whom should have been on the outside walls. They were easy prey once the mage who had been holding the invisibility spell went down. Soon the only survivor, the much battered and bruised survivor, was Akala. She'd holed herself up in a closet, tucked behind piles of linen. It wasn't particularly warm back there. Even in her heavy coat and mittens, Akala was still frigid. She was bleeding from a inch deep cut that she'd gotten after their healer had fallen. She was cold, exhausted, lost, and in deep, deep trouble. |

The Ice Queen had invaded the city a few weeks ago; she was some sort of sorcerous who used powerful magic to move an entire ice castle to the coast, just next to Striberg. A few weeks ago the bridges formed, tying the two land masses together for the first time. The mages received orders from The Ice Queen herself: The city was to surrender and meet her demands or would be destroyed. Within a few hours the battle had started, huge ice monsters walked across the bridges and entered the city, knocking down walls and killing anything that crossed its path. What commanded all of this madness? Not The Ice Queen, she was bunkered down someplace deep within her castle. A few hours after the attack it became very clear who the general was to the army. An ancient northern dragon, dressed in pure white armor. Kronosk, had heard of the attack, the city called for any help it can possibly get. Now usually the demon was in no mood to help anyone, actually this time he was in no mood to help anyone but he was curious. He wanted to know more of this magic; a sorcerous that could move an entire castle made of ice and command an army and control a dragon from the comfort of her own home was very impressive. Kronosk arrived to the crippled city of magic, the northern dragon had its claws sunk into the side of a large building, it breathed a heavy mist that chilled the air around it, broken arrows and swords stuck out of its back but it did not seem to stop the mighty beast. Ice Golems ruled the streets; they crushed through buildings, civilians and mages. However the city of magic was fighting a good battle, mages used fire spells to melt the ice off of some of the Golems, arches shot at the dragon and some brave soldiers had actually reached the castle. Kronosk walked through the city streets, his feet danced on the ice. Since the battle, the magic that heated the city had gone away, probably due to the castle and so much of the city was coated in a few inches of ice. The demon had his bladed whip out; he slashed his way through the city. Mages, golems, arches, it was all the same to him. He was going to reach the castle and find out more about this mysterious dictator. But first, he could not do it on his own. That was unrealistic for anyone. He arrived upon the local inn, there had to be a survivor or two held up inside. He knew it. He walked in, searched the bar area and came up short. His last shot was of course the rooms themselves, he walked up the stairs and arrived in the first room. ”Anyone here?” He yelled as he walked by a closet to check under one of the twin size beds. |

"Who wants to know?" came a gravelly, harsh voice from another room. Five tieflings had holed up in the inn to decide what to do after their mercenary band had been reduced to little more than bloody smears. They were leaderless, grouchy, and looking for a little payback. One of them smiled hostilely at Kronosk. "What do you want?" Akala couldn't stay here forever - she knew that. Her side was starting to soak the blankets she was hiding behind. "Got to get out," she thought. "Got to get a healing potion...or something." She was almost wishing for that stupid ivyn that had followed her up from Calmonah Forest. It would at least be a distraction. But no - she'd decided it would only be in the way, so it was in someone's garden, pretending to be a bush. Or at least it had better be pretending to be a bush - otherwise it would regret it when Akala got back. Assuming, of course, she got back. Edited by Akala, Sun May 20, 2012 6:14 pm.

”Who wants to know?” Kronosk heard the grimy voice coming from behind the door, he peered over just in time to see it crack open, a set of eyes looking through the inch of free space between the door and the wall. The two met eyes and instantly the tieflings realized he had been caught. They all entered the room one by one until the small room was full of creatures. ”What do you want?” Kronosk looked up and realized a few things. One: he had not been attacked yet so obviously they didn’t want him dead that much. Two: all five of them were grinning and staring at the demon. ”Well it looks as if we have a bit of a situation out there.” Kronosk spoke as he turned around to a window; he moved the thin curtain to observe the damage, as if he didn’t already know. ”Yes, it looks that way.” A different one spoke this time and that’s when Kronosk actually took a look at the group. A group of dirty misfits, some had horns, one actually had a single wing, where the other one was supposed to be was only a stub, and another one had a bloody rag wrapped around its head. Kronosk removed his hood to reveal his own horns. At that time, each and every one of the tieflings nodded in approval. ”Where to?” The one with the bloody rag spoke as Kronosk walked past him and out of the door. ”The castle.” All of the tieflings laughed as they filed in behind the demon. It took Akala awhile to get anywhere. She felt conspicuous - the only green thing in a world of white. And she certainly could not move fast. She felt sick and dizzy and exhausted. She had her longsword in her free hand, but she didn't have the strength to sheath it, much less defend herself. She managed to get inside another small room. It appeared to be storage. She sank down behind the boxes for a rest. She wasn't even in any shape to try and think of something to do. There was an arrow slit near her head. She couldn't see out of it, but she could hear the ruckus outside. She wondered what it was from. She rest her head against the crate and stared at it, not really seeing it. She was closing her eyes when her brain said: Hey, what does the writing that you've been staring at say? It's important. With a sigh she opened her eyes again and focused her attention of the black paint on the crate before her. It took a little more staring for it to really reach her. Her mind kept wanting to shut down. The writing said: Fragile: Healing Potions. "Someone loves me after all," Akala muttered with relief, reaching up to open the crate. |

Kronosk and his new followers left the inn to join the battle. Outside it was chaotic, mages of different elements tried to fight off the humongous ice creatures but with little success. The dragon had climbed its way down to the streets bellow, it roared with anger as it took a few arrows in the back. A misty frost left its mouth and froze a group of mages in there tracks. The dragon swung its tail, destroying several buildings in the process. ”Lets go.” Kronosk said as he drew his short sword. Kronsok usually wasn’t the one to use a sword of any type but getting though the streets of the city meant fast kills. The tieflings also drew their weapons, ready for any combat that might cross them on the way to the castle. Almost immediately after entering the city streets, the group comes across a rather odd a sight. It looked as if the mages were fighting each other, Kronosk almost immediately thought it was some kind of spell used by the ice queen but then he realized that the mages were actually fighting an ice mage. The ice mage used powerful ice spells, throwing chunks of it at the other mages. They stood no chance to that kind of power and after the last execution the man dressed in all white turned to see that he had a bit of an audience. A demon and five tieflings, all ready for combat. The tieflings ran forward without any warning from Kronosk who knew that who ever this ice mage was, he was powerful, he probably got most of his power from The Ice Queen herself and that none of them had the weapons, or magic to defeat such a thing. Kronosk stood back, watching the battle play out in front of him. As soon as any of the tieflings would get close, they would be knocked back with a ball of pure ice. The mage was busy freezing one of the tieflings to the ground when one of them actually got close enough to swing his sword, however the ice mage drew a dagger. The dagger was white, white as snow, it was obviously enchanted because of the frost bellowing off of it. When the tiefling swung its sword, the mage duct it as if he already knew it was coming. The dagger entered the tieflings midsection and immediately he froze, his entire face turned an expressionless white. When the mage pulled the dagger out, the tiefling shattered in a thousand pieces. It was Kronosk’s turn, he ran forward hoping to catch the mage off guard as he fought the remaining two tieflings. However as soon as Kronosk got close enough he received an open handed blow to the stomach from the ice mage. It was so powerful it sent the demon flying across the street. His short sword when flying as he landed on his back, Kronosk stood up and uncoiled his blade tipped whip but as he did this, he received and icy blow from the ice mage. The spell hit his shoulder and immediately froze the joints in their place, Kronosk cried out in pain as a second ice spell came his way. This time he was prepared for it, he sent the blade of his whip forward and the two collided. The spell exploded in a ball of ice in the air. The mage smiled as he put his hand up, his hand released an icy spark but before the spell gained much energy the last reaming tiefling jumped on his back. The mage squirmed as he tried to keep his balance; Kronosk with his one working arm threw his whip, the end wrapped around the mages leg. Kronosk jerked the whip towards him; the mage fell backwards with the tiefling. Kronosk pulled the whip towards him, dragging the mage. However the ice spell was still effecting his arm, his stamina was slowly depleting. Kronosk took a step back, trying with all of his strength to pull the mage but it was useless, the exhausted demon allowed the mage to stand up as he gasped for breath. The mage yet again put his hand out, he was ready to finish the demon, and Kronosk gripped the whip with both hands. Wait, with both hands? The ice spell had finally worn off and Kronosk could finally use all of his strength. Kronosk pulled on the whip again, he took a step back and stepped on something hard. He looked down, it was his short sword. The demon smiled as he pulled the mage in closer, til he was bout five feet from him. Kronosk picked up his short sword and stood over the mage. He drove the sword right into the mage’s heart. The mage responded by grabbing Kronosk’s arms, an icy feeling surged though the demon’s body. The right side of his body became very stiff as the mage died. Kronosk and the remaining tiefling quickly gathered there weapons, Kronosk had to fight through the spell if he wanted to survive. There was no time to lose, as the two continued there way to the ice queen's castle. Edited by Kronosk Alabar, Sun May 27, 2012 3:55 am.

It took two potions and about five minutes of just sitting there and breathing before Akala was able to get back up, abet shakily. The wound in her chest had healed, leaving a gash in her clothes which was just a bit chilly. Just a lot chilly, really. "Scrap the mission," she thought, sheathing her sword, "I'm getting out of here while I can." She opened the door ever so slightly, then closed it quickly as several ice golems lumbered by at a run. She'd learned already that they were quicker than they looked. Once the noise had stopped, she peeked out the door again. The hall was empty now. She crept out and closed the door as quietly as she could, making her way down the icy corridor on the balls of her feet. She wasn't completely silent, but the noise of combat on the far side of the wall drowned out her soft footfall. She just needed to get outside and get to a small grate she knew of. It had been their planned escape route. It was a water let just above the walls and, if the people outside had done their jobs, there would be a way for her to get across. Who knows? She might even run into people trying to get in. |

Kronosk and the tiefling looked up at the large gate, the gate to The Ice Queen’s Castle. ”What’s your name?” When Kronosk spoke he didn’t even look at the tiefling, he just stared with an empty gaze at the enormous gate. ”Novi” The tiefling spoke, as he unwrapped the bandage around his head. ”Well, Novi. We’re going to pay The Ice Queen a visit.” Novi smiled, his teeth were rotten and some had even fallen out. The next step was getting into the castle, walking in the front door was probably not a very good idea. Kronosk initially wanted to go through a window but soon realized that he had no climbing equipment but then he saw something, on the corner of the massive castle, right across one of the bridges was a rope leading up to a window that was already broken. The only problem: there was a bloody corpse at the bottom of the rope, which explained why the rope was still there. ”That’s our way up.” Kronosk nodded in the ropes direction and quickly walked towards it. The two arrived at the rope, ”You first.” He said, thinking Novi would refuse but the tiefling simply nodded and grabbed the rope with both hands; Kronosk was right behind him just in case something happened he could go in for an easy kill. The two reached the top in a matter of minutes, Novi glanced into the castle, it looked as if everything was clear but that’s when Kronosk saw two huge icy arms pulling Novi in. ”Bad idea” Kronosk thought to himself as he quickly jumped in the window himself. Inside there was a huge ice golem facing away from the window, in his right hand was Novi’s head, his body was still attached but hung in the air. The only way Kronosk could tell Novi was still alive was by his screams of pain. Kronosk acted quickly, he jumped and impaled his short sword right through the icy back of the golem. Novi was dropped almost instantly, the golem turned and swung his right hand at Kronosk who ducted. Kronosk skated across the icy ground and swung his sword right into the leg of the golem. A huge piece of ice flew off and the golem went to one knee. Kronosk turned and jumped on the creatures back, this is where he delivered the finishing blow, the blade went directly into the back of its head. Kronosk turned to Novi, he was still alive, somehow. He was unconscious and his already injured head looked worse than ever. It was bleeding again, a lot this time. There was no doubt that he had a conscious and the worst part was: Kronosk needed him to get out of the castle alive. Kronosk picked up the tiefling, putting his arm over the demon’s shoulder, Kronosk peered through the door. He could hear a fight on the other side of the walls, but no footsteps. Kronosk stepped into the hallway and came face to face with…someone? |

Akala rounded a corner and ran nearly smack dab into someone coming the other way. Her hand went for her sword. But it wasn't as barbarian or an ice golem. It was a red-eyed man with dark hair in a long cloak. He was carrying a wounded tiefling over one shoulder. Akala could think of no immediate explanation. She doubted they were part of another assault team - seeing as how her team had made it in mostly on luck, it seemed unlikely another team would get that lucky as well. Since no one was aware of what had happened to her team, she didn't think they were part of a rescue squad. They could be the White Queen's minions, but they weren't wearing white or frosty pastels, which seemed to be her uniform. There was the heavy tramp of marching feet behind her. She glanced over her shoulder just in time to see a squad of frost golems marching around the corner. She shoved her way past the pair into the doorway and slammed the door shut, enclosing the three of them in a room full of shards of ice. It appeared to be what was left of a golem. She looked at the man with new respect. "Did you do this?" |

It happened fast, the women, creature thing appearing in front of him, the slight push back into the room and then the sound of the door closing fast behind him. Kronosk slowly dropped the tiefling, he stared down at his head. There was quite a lot of bruising; it made a circle around his forehead. There was a small gash, near his temple, which probably happened before Kronosk met him. ”Novi?” The tiefling groaned. ”He’s still alive, and I assume you don’t want to kill me because you haven’t yet.” Kronosk said with a chuckle. Things had changed, as long as this woman was friendly and wanted to venture further into the castle with the demon then Novi would not go. Finding aid for him in a place like this was slim to none and carrying around a body on your shoulder could mean death for Kronosk as well. Kronosk heard her speak for the first time, he looked up, she was admiring his handy work from only moments ago. ”Yes, they are nasty creatures, but if you take them out by the legs it’s a lot easier. A blow to the head is death for anything, ya know?” Kronosk stood up and walked towards her, he put his hands on both of her shoulders. She was a dragon of some kind, powerful creatures that could wipe out armies. ”How about, we go pay The Ice Queen, a visit? My friend here…he needs some revenge.” |
