Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

A mess of thoughts collided in Nomad's mind, but the prevailing phrase was a line repeated frantically:

Oh god oh god oh god oh god

She had gotten this far. The agent stood at the doorsteps of the Kirsikka Enterprises office, an unassuming building in downtown Striberg, staring up the steps at the front door. Her grip unconsciously tightened around the stem of the single flower she carried. Then her whole body followed in a wave of mustered confidence, carrying her up the stairs and inside.

Into the main office. A cursory nod at the secretary, then up the stairs. Lumi's office was at the end of the short hall on the right. Nomad's face settled into a dead-set frown. She stopped in front of the door, pulled herself together, gripped the doorknob. Turned it the wrong way, panicked, almost kicked down the door, but realized her mistake in time. By the time she arrived in Lumi's office her entire face was flushed from a mixture of rage and nerves.

"Lumi!" Her opening was louder than usual, almost panicked -- not much coming from the normally soft-spoken assassin. Nomad took a breath to hold back her stutters. "Lumi. Did you know that you have a day off today? I-It's a holiday today in Striberg, no one's supposed to be working." She marched up to her boss' desk and stiffly handed her the flower. Despite Nomad's incessant choking of the stem, its lavender petals looked as good as new. It had been freshly picked from the arcano-botanical gardens behind the Academy, possibly illegally.

"I-I-I thought we could do something fun. I don't know. Since it's your day off. And... I found this flower. Thought you'd like it." She jerked her chin at the small vase on the corner of Lumi's desk, then tilted her head hopefully at her enigmatic employer.

Lumi sat at her desk, wiggling her toes. Her boots lay flopped beneath her desk. One of her favorite stockings was slightly loose on her leg. Her fingers worked furiously, moving through paper after paper. Bureaucracy and red tape took up much of her day. If she simply smuggled weapons(which was very easy) she'd spend half the time with paperwork and get twice the profits. She grumbled as she struck the usual layer of complaints registered against her company. People were annoyed when a shipment of weapons simply appeared in their enemies hands, and Kirsikka Enterprises was infamously fast.

Suddenly her door opened, revealing a flustered Nomad. Lumi's hand tilted to the side, her quill brushing the table. She smiled warmly at Nomad and placed her quill down even as the unfortunate (former) woodland creature stuttered her way through an explanation. Lumi cocked her head slightly to the side, sending blonde hair drifting across her slim shoulders. The arms dealer turned her chair to the side and crooked a leg, pulling the stocking up snuggly. She walked around the desk, plucking the flower from Nomad's hand. Lumi sniffed it reverentially, and then gave the woman a hug, tickling Nomad's ear with the purple petals.

"I'd enjoy doing something with you, Nomad. What lovely bit of fun did you have in mind?" Lumi inquired, a warm smile on her face. Nomad was one of her favorite people. It suddenly struck her that there was one little detail she did not know about her employee. "Before we do that, I'll need to know your real name." Lumi asked. She kicked her boots from beneath the desk and began lacing them up.

Nomad waited in tight-lipped silence while Lumi slowly got up and walked over to her. By now she had gotten used to the way her boss always teased her; the agent's flustered responses always amused her. But she still watched the white-haired woman closely, trying to figure out what she was going to say. It was fairly likely Lumi would politely refuse her offer. No doubt she had important work to do. What actually happened was unexpected. After taking the flower from her hands Lumi immediately wrapped her in a tight hug. Her pointed ear gave a reflex twitch from the flower petals against it, wincing slightly while keeping her arms dangling at her sides. Her breathing was shallow and erratic. Not sure what to do, she settled with silence.

Lumi finally pulled away from the hug and asked her what, exactly, they wanted to do today. In truth, Nomad hadn't actually thought that far ahead. Like a target for assassination might suddenly make a move that wasn't predicted, Nomad was forced to think fast and adapt to the situation. "I, well, I wan-nn-ted to, I--" she took a deep breath, taking a step back so she could concentrate on her words. "We're friends, right? I-I-I just thought it would be nice to spend some time together doing something that isn't a mission. The-- the city is all decorated and there's flowers all over the place, m-mm-maybe we could take a walk an-kkhh-- and have lunch?" Lumi, ever patient with Nomad's difficulties speaking, waited patiently before tossing in an aside: that before they were to do any of that, she wanted to know the agent's real name.

"What?" Nomad's eyes widened, utterly baffled by the out-of-the-blue question. "W-w-w-w--" Another deep breath. "Why do you need to know that?"

Lumi chuckled at Nomad's worried words. She drifted away from her, and she dipped her hand into her dress. From it she pulled a note of reservation.

"I reserved a table for two at the Striking Mare tonight." Lumi explained, placing the little slip of paper on the table. She strode to one of her cabinets, unlocking it with a flourish. The door opened, revealing a sleek black dress. It wasn't the most substantial thing, and a full set of garments were strung up next to it. "I knew you didn't have a nice dress, so I decided to go out and buy one myself." Lumi explained. She ran her hands along a delicate black scarf in the mix with a smile. The forge master slipped by Nomad, holding onto a slim little blue dress of her own. She left her office, and slipped into her secretary's office.

They walked down the streets together, Lumi careful not to slip on one of the many rogue flower petals. The streets were heavily decorated to say the least. Lumi gently lead Nomad into the Striking Mare, and they were promptly seated at a table overlooking Striberg Harbor(and Lumi's warehouse).

"I wish I lived somewhere else. The deserts of Istan with their striking vistas, the prairies of Kellen. Business friendliness comes with a cost, eh?" Lumi murmured, staring out at the half-frozen ships making their way into Striberg. "I still want to know your name, Nomad. Can't be that bad, right?" Lumi asked sweetly.

"...You already knew?" Nomad stared baffled at Lumi while she revealed her big plan. Restaurant reservations, dresses -- wait, even dresses? "Lumi, that's really nn-nice of you, but how did you get one without knowing--" But her boss was already gone, off to change into her own outfit. Nomad stared dumbly at her black dress for a few seconds, wondering if it would actually fit. Didn't these things require a great deal of personal measurement from a professional tailor? Trying not to disappoint her boss, she put it on anyway.

It fit really well, actually. Nomad was glad her employer was a good guesser as she walked down the street with her, careful not to slip on unanticipated rose petals sprinkled on the street. For some reason Striberg really, really liked this holiday; everything was decorated for the occasion. Once they were seated in the Striking Mare, a high-class restaurant near the edge of the iceberg-city, Lumi commented on the view as if disappointed with the place she had to live. "At least Striberg isn't scorching like Istan or humid like Kellen," Nomad pointed out, trying to be optimistic. "And- and the ice floes are kind of pretty. Sometimes you can see whales breaching out there."

Lumi's reiteration of her earlier question took the agent's attention back away from the window. Nomad chewed on her lip, trying to decide what to say. "I'm sorry. It must come off as strange that I don't want to tell you. It's just-- it's really personal, and I'm not used to telling anyone. But- but I think I can trust you." Nomad took a deep breath, continuing to take the divulging of her name incredibly seriously. She leaned in close and spoke in a whisper, keeping her eyes leveled in Lumi's general direction but not making eye contact. "My name is K-Kanati. No last name."

Nomad almost immediately leaned back, looking startled. "Lumi, I really like you!" she blurted out. "You're so smart and graceful and you found me in the gutter and gave me a place to live. You're the best boss ever. Thank you for taking time out of your day to spend time with me." The confession came all of a sudden as a wave, no flaws in her speech, and Nomad looked utterly exasperated after speaking. She placed her hands on the table and knit her fingers together, trying not to fidgit.

Nomad expounded the virtues of Striberg, as Lumi stared at their just arriving food. A ring of medallions of steak around a small pile of mashed potatoes, covered in a lovely looking sauce. They had gotten the same thing, no doubt because the menu only had one steak option for tonight. Lumi slowly ate the first medallion as she listened to Nomad's name.

"Kanati. That's a lovely name," Lumi said. She let it roll off her tongue with reverence, careful to pronounce it correctly. Kanati blurted out her feelings. For a moment Lumi looked shocked, but then she smiled warmly. She cocked her head slightly to the side, gently placing a lily white hand on Kanati's. "I like you too. My most mentally stable and active employee, other than my smiths. Just what a boss could hope for," Lumi explained. She delicately picked up one of Kanati's quivering hands, and planted a soft kiss on it. The kiss filled her with an immediate warmth, causing her to drop her characteristic slight smile. It was replaced with a wide one. There were things Lumi wanted to say, but they could wait. She didn't quite have the courage yet. "But we should eat. Don't want this steak to get cold."
