| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The scream of a messenger hawk drew Nomad's attention away from the clamor of battle. She extended her hand out from the demolished window, allowing the tiny raptor to land on her hand. Nomad smiled and gave it a little stroke before removing the piece of parchment tied to its back. Then it flew off, ready to deliver more messages across the war-torn city. After sniping all morning, getting a message was interesting change and gave her an excuse to take a break. Nomad put her bow on the ground and leaned with her back against the wall while she unfolded the parchment. Inside was something she'd been waiting for all day: news on the rumors of a super-weapon being assembled in the White Queen's castle. But then the blood drained from her face when she read further. The situation was dire. She needed to tell Lumi now. She strung her bow over her back, got up and swung her whole body out of the window of the half-destroyed building she was in. Her body twisted and she clambered up the side, jumping from rooftop to rooftop at full speed toward her boss' house. Kirsikka was busy as it was, but this information was urgent and she doubted the hawk would reach her in time. Nomad crashed through the open window in Lumi's office and landed in a roll. Her eyes were wide with panic. "Lumi, the superweapon is real. It's going to be completed in... 49 minutes now," she gasped. The urgency of the situation practically wiped the stutter away from her words. "The troops are still holed up at the bridges. We need to push past and destroy it ourselves. There's no other way." |

Nomad burst in with intelligence as Lumi pointedly ignored the attack outside. Striberg would deal with it, and if they didn't she'd simply supply the newcomers with weapons. For her it wasn't a real problem. Until Nomad told her the rumored superweapon was an actual thing. "I'm surprised we got such an accurate report," Lumi murmured. She immediately rose, and daintily clambered out of her window. With an effortless jump she crossed the distance between her window and the roof next door. Lumi snapped her fingers and out sprang her private guard, five men armed with katanas. She glanced back to Nomad as they began their run across the rooftops. "Nomad! Kirsikka Enterprises will single-handedly end the threat to Striberg!" She shouted back to her favorite sniper. |

Nomad stopped and stared, admiring how gracefully her boss climbed out of the window and jumped off. It was almost like she weighed nothing at all, and could even walk on air if she really wanted to. The sniper clambered after her boss and inelegantly jumped out of the window, trying to keep up with Lumi as they leaped from rooftop to rooftop, the loose cloth ends of her armor and her hooded cloak flapping in the wind behind her. She tried her best to catch up with her employer so they could both arrive at the threat at the same time, but instead decided to hang back a decent distance once Lumi summoned her private guard. The katana-wielding men kept her flanks clear as they joined the fast-paced travel toward the main front of the battle. After clambering from rooftop to rooftop they eventually reached the edge of the city, which had become a bloodbath in these past few days. Guardsmen at the ice bridges fought valiantly to hold the line against all sorts of ruthless foreigners. No time to lose; they had to get past the battle and into the castle. Nomad crouched at the corner of a smithy roof before leaping off. She reached into the whirling folds of her cloak and armor to pull a long, straight knife from the sheathe on her thigh, taking it in both hands and bringing it straight into a hulking barbarian on which she landed. With such a short stature it was now impossible to see where Lumi and her men had landed, so she focused on swiftly and efficiently eliminating any enemy she couldn't just evade. It only took a minute or two before the agent broke from the main blob of enemies and faced the main line of bridges leading to the white castle. Before proceeding, though, Nomad looked around for her boss. |

They reached the main battle and Lumi promptly barked orders. Her five men darted to the front line to serve as expert fighters. They put a total halt to the White Queen's forces on the front line, using their weapons with shocking skill. Lumi herself observed the front line carefully, trying to see where she would be best before making a move. There was a breakthrough, one powerful warrior leading the charge. A woman with light blue hair, dressed in what appeared to be some sort of fancy dress. It did not however slow her down, or her massive two handed sword. The blade was as tall as she was, with a wicked curve to it. The weapon itself had a slender elegance, and sliced through men like they were insubstantial. There was a finesse to her movements, signs of true mastery with that weapon. Already the guards were keeping a wide stance around her. Lumi took a single step forward, and instantly closed the distance between her and the master fighter. Her eyes widened as Lumi barely landed a thrust, deflected with the lengthy blade. They circled one another for a moment, Lumi menacing with Graceless. She kept her hand raised high, and stepped in. Her lunge carried the tip of the blade a surprising distance, but the woman stepped just outside of the reach. The woman's blade blurred by at shoulder level, Lumi dropping herself even lower. The moment the blade passed she stepped forward and upwards, lunging again. The woman parried, forcing Lumi to dodge another swing of the massive blade. A sharp pain rose from her cheekbone to just an inch beneath it. The dodge wasn't quite enough. "Aye, that was good, girl." Lumi said. The near-white locks rose in the air, toyed with by unnatural air currents. Her feet only barely touched the ground. The fighter snapped at her in a foreign tongue. Lumi smiled, and in a blur moved around her. The fighter's blade followed, but Graceless flicked out and scored a hit at her exposed side. |

It looked like Lumi was still stuck in the dense pack of soldiers, making it difficult for Nomad to wait for her. She turned to the castle and spotted soldiers charging down the ice bridge, ready to join the waves of men on the iceberg. The agent wiped the blood off her blade and sheathed it, replacing it instead with her favorite bow. The black matte steel almost seemed to absorb light rather than reflect it as black wisps spiraled around the weapon's body. Nomad fitted an arrow to the string, aimed high at the distant enemies, and let it fly. The arrow left a trail of black mist behind it before it punched into the armor of a charging enemy. He abruptly stopped, clutched his head and screamed desperately before collapsing. The soldier's large body tripped up the people behind him, causing a couple to fall into the sea. Nomad continued sending arrows into the air, each one becoming more precise as they drew closer. The last remaining soldier in the wave, who broke into a sprint once he was getting decently close to the agent, fell to an arrow in the eye and died screaming in fear of visions only he could see. |

The White Queen's soldiers around Lumi surged towards her the moment she struck. The woman backed them off with a soft spoken snap. Lumi chuckled as the woman began a furious assault. Lumi stepped back and around, her rapier flicking out in deft parries. Each blow came dangerously close, the woman's superior strength forcing the light rapier backwards. Lumi blurred around her again, the woman quickly stepping and pivoting with the same motion. Her blade soared, crashing down at where she expected Lumi to stop. Lumi slipped her blade into the woman's shoulder, blood blossoming as her arm fell limp. She stepped backwards, and immediately a katana flashed out from amongst the crowd. The woman stumbled and escaped into the charging ranks of her fellows, howling for blood. The first three to come near Lumi died, their throats spraying blood from slender cuts. They had appeared in flashes of steel. Lumi jumped backwards, drifting into the air before speeding towards the best sniping spot she could find. She found Nomad there, just like she had suspected. "Nomad, do you know where this weapon is located?" She inquired. She balanced on the railing with a single foot. With a hop she moved behind Nomad. An arrow hurtled past. "I think I stirred up the beehive." |

Nomad was busy pulling arrows from corpses when Lumi finally arrived. Her boss was still glowing even when she was covered in the viscera of enemies she'd no doubt efficiently put down. "Infiltrators have indicated that the superweapon is being stowed in the highest tower of the castle," she said while hurrying down the bridge. "To state the obvious, my lady, we'd best make haste. We likely only have about a half-hour left." The agent scurried down the middle of the ice bridge, tearing out arrows from corpses on the way. After quickly dispatching a second wave of enemies they arrived at the courtyard of the castle: a large, flat field of ice. The central pathway to the front door was lined with ice sculptures and guarded by hulking suits of armor covered in magical runes. Nomad motioned for Lumi to follow before darting between sculptures and rounding around the outside wall of the castle. She crouched low, glad to be wearing her white armor so she didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Then she turned to Lumi and cracked an apologetic half-smile. "Our entrance wasn't the most... tactful in the world," she whispered, "but necessary. No cover on those bridges." Nomad pointed up at a small window just big enough for their small bodies to crawl through. "We shouldn't use the front door. We're good, but not good enough to take on a whole garrison." |

Lumi trotted after Nomad, keeping the location of the weapon in mind. She couldn't fly to the top, no doubt they had a nasty defense up there. Their dragon, for one. The beast in question was tearing up one of the bridges and preventing the striberg guard from passing over it. This battle was strongly in the favor of Striberg already. She had seen a pair of female mages with a nasty looking golem running about, a woman in heavy armor escorting a girl in a white sundress. An odd horde, but when wasn't it on Imythess? She followed along after Nomad after the approach suddenly became much more stealth oriented. It wasn't something Lumi was particularly good at. She kept behind objects and scrambled to follow Nomad. Her shoes had been left behind one of the larger displays. Lumi was quite pleased that she had chosen to wore a warm footwrap. Nomad pointed out a small window, and Lumi immediately darted into it, squeezing through. She glanced down the other side for a moment, noting that it was an empty corridor. Lumi finished going through the window, but chose to keep nearby to help Nomad up as well. The moment the other girl was through she pinned herself to the wall. "Nomad, I'm not very good at this sneaking stuff, you'll have to lead." She whispered urgently. Lumi actually preferred boldness, but Nomad's tactic was perhaps smarter when there were only two of them. |

Nomad didn't need her boss' help climbing up the wall to the window, but she accepted it nonetheless. The agent let Lumi pull her up into the window by the forearm and she landed silently on the marble floor. The corridor was empty here, and fairly dark save for the shafts of light coming in from the windows. "We'll still need to kill, but hopefully without alerting anyone of our presence. With respect, Lumi, try to take them out before they realize you're there." She pulled her scarf and hood back up over her face, hiding as much of her dark skin as possible and helping her blend into the light colors around them better. Nomad led the way down the hall until they reached a long spiraling staircase. Heavy footsteps creaked on the stairs above. Nomad pulled out her bow and fitted an arrow to the string before she started up. Midway up to the next floor she emerged behind the foreign man, pointed the arrow almost point-blank to the back of his head, and let it fly. It killed him faster than his brain could process the frightening hallucinations of her attack. She stepped over his slumped body and continued onto the next floor. They emerged into an elaborate living space of sorts, lavishly decorated with furniture, furs, and a fire. Nomad gently coaxed her boss over to some cover and pointed out the silhouette of a man sitting on the chair in front of the fire. Two guards were also stationed at the doorway on the other side of the room, where they needed to go. Nomad nocked another arrow, drew it back, and emerged just barely from behind the reclining chair where she was hiding. Hopefully Lumi would get the idea of how to clear this room, because the agent let her projectile fly and it cleanly killed one of the guards instantly. The other one snapped to attention, hefting up his halberd and charging across the room to find the attacker. |

Lumi nodded at the obvious advice, and followed behind her sniper. They followed a staircase up, Nomad executing a lone guard before he could react. Lumi pinned herself to the wall and followed closely behind, peeking just out past the corpse. Another arrow flew, killing one of the two guards. The final guard charged out across the room. Lumi ducked around the corner. One step took her across the room with a gust of wind, her blade sliding between the man's eyeslits. She nodded to Nomad. "This must be a room for someone important, but that isn't our goal," She murmured. Lumi checked around quickly and then trotted back to Nomad. "We may as well head up the stairs until we reach the top. They followed the stairs quickly and quietly, until they reached the very peak of the structure. Unsurprisingly many of the doors were sealed. As they climbed the buzz of infernal magics rose in pitch until it became the only thing Lumi could here. At the very top lay a pair of fairly large double doors, which Lumi pressed open as smoothly as possible. Just over the noise she heard shouts concerning intruders. Without waiting for Nomad she blurred into the room, blade flashing. An untouchable warrior was a might distraction. |

Pulling her blade out from the back of the chair just as Lumi finished dispatching the other guard, letting the man sitting there slump dead, Nomad nodded at her boss. They continued up the stairs until they reached the room where the devastating technology was rumored to be held. Then Lumi practically charged in after hearing talk of intruders. Nomad almost opened her mouth to stop her, but it was useless to keep up this stealthiness if they had been detected. She followed after the light blond woman, fitting an arrow to her bowstring as she ran. A huge metal cannon covered in arcane runes dominated the entire room, but Nomad didn't pay it any attention. The more pressing matter was the fact that this main chamber was completely filled with enemies. And with only a few more minutes to spare, they had to kill them all and find a way to deactivate the weapon before it could fire on Striberg and completely destroy it. Nomad darted behind a crate of ammunition and began supporting Lumi with covering fire. Arrow after black arrow tore through enemies trying to surround the woman. The men that attacked them died unbelievably quickly despite their number, and the technicians and mages that were working on the superweapon preferred to cower under desks and behind objects instead of attack. |

Lumi darted around the room, attacking people farthest from the ones she had just struck. It kept them off balance, and kept them angry. Her blade flashed out again and again planting seemingly innocuous slashes that created gouts and gouts of blood. A mage rose from behind his cover to cast a spell, but found her blade pierced through one of his eyes instantly. As she fought her features became less and less opaque, her edges becoming closer and closer to translucent. The final enemy fell, Graceless jammed through his chest. Lumi doubled over and panted, staring at the machine. Stopping it would prove quite difficult, she suspected. Lumi quickly strode around the machine, until she glanced into its innards. She had always been told to not look at a staff or crossbow like this when she was younger. At the very end of the barrel lay a glimmering crystal. It was all she needed to see. "Nomad, if I die, you can have the company," Lumi said rather morbidly. The woman leaned into the massive weapon, yanking herself in up to her hips. After a good fifteen seconds she pulled herself back out, holding a massive crystal like a baby. She was covered in metal shavings and arcane oils, her hair matted to her body. "I'll hire someone to do this sort of thing next time," Lumi grumbled. |

"W-what?" Nomad barely processed what Lumi said before she started climbing into the barrel of a live city-destroying machine set to go off in a matter of minutes. "Don't say that! And-- wait!" Her response changed from denial to outrage to desperation to trying-to-climb-in-with-her over the course of a few seconds. She tried her best to help in any way she could from the ground -- mostly pointing her loaded bow at the civilians to make sure they didn't get any funny ideas about interacting with the weapon while Lumi was inside. Good thing her boss re-emerged from the cannon barrel less than a minute later holding the ammunition that could have destroyed the whole city. Nomad was so relieved that her boss didn't die that she abandoned all professional decorum and gave her a big hug. In the process she picked up a lot of strange oils or some substance on her clothing, which she hadn't noticed until the last second. She laughed sheepishly at Lumi's grumbling comment about outsourcing, her cheeks coloring beneath her white scarf. "Oh, but isn't it nice to get out in the field sometimes? It must be boring sitting alone in your office doing paperwork. Um... may I have that crystal, please?" She took the big piece of ammo in her arms and walked up to the nearest window. In a big exertion of her tiny frame, she chucked the whole thing outside. A few seconds later, the engine of destruction fell into the sea, hopefully destroying it or at least getting rid of it for good. They didn't need that sort of technology floating around Imythess. The agent turned back to her boss and forced a small, nervous laugh. "I-I guess we'll both need a bath when we get back," she said, holding up her oil-soaked arms. |

Lumi was immediately hugged by the woman who had tried her very hardest to squeeze into the barrel with her. Lumi handed her the crystal with a slight smile. "It isn't that bad. Fresh air, thrilling adventures." Lumi agreed. The two worked together and pressed the rest of the cannon into the sea. "A bath would be lovely." Hours later Lumi was back to flicking through paperwork. Her overseers had seen to preventing her facility from getting disrupted in any way by the impending invasion. It was a fairly normal day, other than the bandage on her face and the fatigue. Her personal secretary had even managed to make an istani style pot of coffee when the rest of Striberg was trying to flee or fight. Kirsikka Enterprises was well drilled. Lumi admitted to herself that she likely wouldn't have helped unless Nomad had urged her. The other bonus of the day was that she could go to work in her comfy bathrobe and no one complained. After all, Kirsikka had just saved the whole city! |
