Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Sark had found it difficult to procure a small rowboat for the task that had been assigned to him by the Striberg Mages. It wasn't often someone wanted to lend a boat to a 17' foot 'snake', and the fact that it'd be holding more than one passenger meant that it was likely to capsize, meaning a return of the boat would be, well. The owner's problem. But after a hard enough search, Sark had finally found someone willing to lend a boat to himself and the two that were to ride with him.

Making way to a portion of the shore that wasn't strewn with military, Sark and the other two quickly set the boat in the water and boarded, rowing around the perimeter of the city toward the White Queen's bridges. One of the men had to continuously clash at the ice in front of the rowboat while they crept along the shore to break up ice that impeded movement, but Sark didn't pity him. Rowing a boat with three people is hard work, especially when one of them is a 500 pound, 17 foot half-ling.

As they approached the battle, Sark stopped rowing and quickly cast Obscuring Mists, shrouding their boat. He pulled a lot of mana from the spell's punch so that it'd make the boat harder to see, but wouldn't encroach on the battle field and draw attention towards the small ship. Smiling, he rowed the rest of the way to right beside one of the smaller bridges. This is what he was ordered to do: prevent more enemies from leaving the castle by destroying the bridges. And he happily would.

In the back of the boat, completely unmoving aside from the occasional odd twitch as one of the crimson veins snaking across his body pulsed with energy, Saix simply sat. Watching. Waiting. His spear simply sat entirely immobile stretched across his lap, eight feet of steel and... something else, the curious obsidian substance that comprised the handle.

Inside, he was seething with activity, a warrior's mind constantly taking in tiny details in the world around him as the information played through his mind once more, the tenebrous shadows obscuring his thoughts as they introduced pertinent information regarding his mission. Investigate the White Queen's defenses. Test the might of her golems, drawing blood or water as you will. Discover the true might of her draconic guardian; ascertain whether it can be defeated. If the opportunity presents itself, slay or turn the Queen. The continued existence of the city is irrelevant, as are the lives of those within. Do not kill humans. ...Unnecessarily.

He had taken the job to "protect" the city at the behest of his master, but the jobs aligned well enough that it had been an easy way in. The screams and roars of the battle ahead sang to him, though, a rising cacophony that was music to the ears of the abyssal, that threatened to pull his concentration and dominate his mind. There was blood ahead, and a goodly quantity of it.

Saix spoke for the first time, as much to distract himself as to actually get the question answered. His voice, throaty and deep, carried no emotion, only blank curiosity and a question that was more a statement than a query.

"You have a plan."

Sark looked back to the man that had been passively accompanying him to this point. A small smile crossed his face, as he brought the boat to a complete stop by running it ashore.

"Well yes. Yes I do. If you're as good with that spear as I hope you are, and he's still got energy. I'm ready to go, definitely. So all we really need to do is chip away at the bridges. They're all made of ice, so the plan is to find cracks, wedge blades in, and pry open. The integrity of the bridge will dwindle quickly, and then I'll simply strike it with a bolt of lightning."

He let the last clause linger in the air as he disembarked. It would be best if they let him lead, and he hoped that the power to call lightning would be enough to give him an air of authority. Slithering up the shore, he made his way out onto the bridge. Looking around, he noticed a few spots that had already become chipped from an apparent battle that had taken place earlier. Assessing the dangers of this particular bridge, Sark happily noted that the White Queen's henchmen were far from the castle, holding the front lines at a safe distance. Apparently, they hadn't anticipated an arrival by sea. At least, not that Sark noticed.

Slithering over to the most damaged section of the bridge, Sark quickly chanted an incantation and wiggled his fingers. A dense mist quickly settled in a ring around the brdige, with the bridge itself unhindered by the dense obscurenenss. Smiling, he wielded his mace, and quickly started bashing away at the ice, hoping to generate enough damage that large cracks would start to appear. His plan may not have been the best, but it was definitely the simplest.

What remained of Saix's consciousness bristled for a moment at the mere insinuation that he might not be all that with the spear, but the mind that was not his own crushed the emotion before it could make itself evident, leaving him to continue to stare blankly at the naga for a few moments as the latter continued to speak. Doubtless this "Sark" would appreciate being allowed to say his piece without interruptions, and for the time being it was clear that he could well prove useful.

A mental prod and he realized that it was his turn to reply, the plan unveiled. A solid one, albeit one ignoring the changing battlefield. "We will be fortunate to labor undisturbed for any duration of time." He could only hope that the ice creatures were not underwater as well, or the boat could well be dragged below the icy brine before any of them could react. Not a pleasant way to go - but more importantly, it would also jeapordize his mission, and that could not be allowed. "...Understood. We will comply."

To the observer, it would appear that he was referring to himself and the third party in the boat, a northman carrying a good-sized crossbow. The truth - that Saix's coinhabitant had agreed to the plan for both itself and Saix - was known only to him. He rose, ignoring another twitch as the energies died down from the moment of possession, hiding it by tentatively poking at the icy bridge instead. Some ice chipped away, but the spear was no greataxe. "My weapon was not made for blunt trauma, but I will aid you as possible. If we are disturbed, I will be more useful at the front." Which was entirely true, but it was also entirely true that chipping away at ice would do little to satisfy any of the conditions of his actual mission.

The other man shrugged, digging out two bars of metal, handing one to Saix, then cautiously jumped out of the boat, crossbow affixed to his back, and began his own task. The abyssal followed after a few moments of silent reverie, experimentally picking at a few jutting ledges, his brow furrowed in thought. After a minute or so, he spoke again, his tone even. "I would have thought there would be guardians. That the bridges should be entirely unprotected is disquieting."

Sark discontinued his chipping away at the bridge and stood up straight, raising higher than usual on his tail to appear taller than need be. He wanted to maintain his air of authority, so these little nuances were his idea of a sound plan. He turned to face the two others, and let a friendly smile cross his face. He crossed his arms as he spoke, his mace awkwardly dangling from his hand over his stomach.

"I'm open to suggestions. This isn't a tyranny, this is a group working together as a unit. If you have a better idea, I'm more than willing to hear it. I didn't want to assume anything of you, so simply stated what I knew. I knew you had a spear, which has a pointed tip and would afford good leverage. I know that he has a sword, and seems strong enough with how he was hacking at the ice. I didn't want to make you feel inadequate by asking things of you that you may not be capable of, such as fyre magic or feats of super-human strength. Looking back, perhaps I should've asked what you have to offer, and I apologize for not thinking of it. Do you have a better plan?"

Unbeknownst to Sark, the water below the bridge was bubbling as he spoke. The vibrations from the attack on the bridge had reverberated down into the water from both the base of the castle and the shore. Sark had surveyed the land for opponents well enough, but the thought had never crossed his mind to check the water. While he was naive in thinking that the land henchmen would keep their distance and distraction, he was twice so for thinking that the White Queen's only pawns were already engaged in battle. Sark was too preoccupied with his speech to notice the sound of water dripping off of something massive, and by the time he had finished his monologue, a giant, icy tail had already risen up behind him, swaying gently in the air as if just waiting to strike.

So the snake had some venom in its fangs. Saix nodded, accepting the other man's words; it would do no good to argue semantics, and as far as plans went, this was a solid one on paper. "I merely make the point that any plan lasts only so long in the heat of battle. That we arrived unscathed was due to you, but something is bound to notice our activities eventually." This - Sark had a good head on his shoulders. "I merely serve." Another double entendre, though there was the slightest hint of emotion attached to the meaning, a moment of Saix the man poking through. Not petulance, but a hint of feeling in his otherwise dull, lifeless tone.

The prehensile appendage gradually appearing behind Sark set off no warning signs initially; Saix simply assumed that it was Sark's own tail, perhaps a gesture of strength or something of the sort. When he saw the tip of Sark's tail lazily twitching on the ice to his left, though, the world seemed to slow down into perfect clarity, the calm before the storm. he had seen no wildlife whatsoever on the trip, heard not a sound other than the groaning and creaking of ice - for good reason. It made sudden terrible sense that there had been a reason for that beyond the battle, which he had erroneously labeled the likely explanation. The bar of metal dropped from his hand, both hands gradually wrapping around the spear as he spoke, quietly and calmly. "I have but one - survive. Behind you!"

Then the boat imploded, a shower of splinters erupting from the disaster as something rent it asunder in a single massive application of force. The crossbowman swore, dropping his pick as he wrestled with the weapon on his back, but whatever had been in the water dived back beneath in a flurry of leathery skin and countless teeth, teal and aqua glinting unnaturally in the harsh sunlight before being swallowed once more by the dull water. The tail lashed out blindly at Sark, recoiling an instant later to join its progenitor beneath the water.

Saix's mind ground into action, attempting to calculate the size of the creature from the moment of action - it had been long enough to attack the boat with its body and still assault from the other side of the bridge with its tail, but only barely; that it had disappeared so quickly after the creature had once again submerged suggested that it had been as as far away as possible. Perhaps half a dozen meters in length. Certainly not the size of the winter dragon they hunted, for better or for worse - but flawless prey, a creature easily capable of killing them all in seconds if they simply waited for the next assault without a plan.

The other presence retreated without warning, leaving Saix free in his own mind for an instant. He stumbled, vision suddenly blurring, but recovered an instant later. Freedom! It was only temporary, but he could feel his body tense in readiness, the lust for battle that had killed him once before consuming him again. The spear seemed to move of its own accord, coming to rest under his right arm as the left extended, his stance sinking in raw readiness for the next assault. When Saix next spoke, his voice was brighter, no longer as dead as it had been before. "Not much longer than you. Maybe six, eight meters." It was no longer possible to mask the jubilation. "What's the plan? If it's a dragon, it's immature. Don't know as much about serpents, sea or otherwise."

Sark listened to Saix as he spoke, a small smile creeping up on him. Yes, obey. As the man said he had a suggestion - survive - Sark immediately looked around behind him when Saix said. Dropping his mace, he quickly leaped out of the way, narrowly avoiding a strike from the muscular tail. Rising up on his own tail, Sark looked over the side of the bridge, down into the now turbulent waters. He heard the small rowboat they had come shatter and splinter, and just as he was looking away to check on the boat, he saw a flash of blue.

Slithering quickly to the other side of the bridge, he noticed that there was definitely something in the water. Something big. Saix shouted out measurements, and Sark quickly nodded, accepting his measurement without a second thought. If they simply waited, that thing could sneak anywhere in the water and strike again. But they couldn't exactly attack what they couldn't really see.

"The plan is we kill it."

He made his way to the other side of the bridge in a matter of moments, and quickly invoked the power of his people, pointing simply at the water where he predicted this thing to be, yelling a simple word.

"FULGURIS!"

A bolt of lightning came from nowhere, and coursed through Sark's body, exiting through his pointed finger and into the water. The surface crackled with electricity, and in an instant, a giant, blue beast came lurching from its depths.

What are we fighting, you ask?

"We need to keep it out of the water. We have no chance with it in there!"

The creature made way for land, the shock it had received in the water a clear sign that the murky depths weren't a safe place for it. Sark quickly muttered another incantation and held his finger out again, the lightning quickly descending from seemingly nowhere and making an arch to the scaled prey. The creature yelped in a terrible voice, and shook its head. Trying to clear its mind of the pain, no doubt. Sark let a small smile cross his face again.
