Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Brint grimaced as he found himself being mugged of all things in Striberg, he must have thought that a blind orc was an easy target, killing inside of town was against the law, and he respected the laws, instead he listened for the wind, howling through the streets to figure out a general layout, he could feel the alley he was in and knew of how to escape it, but first, he would teach this little thief a lesson. He could smell the steel of the blade and the sweat of the man as he breathed heavily, probably worried... a first timer perhaps, but it mattered not, he needed a lesson. He took out his axe and swung it, purposely letting it miss to let him hear the cut of the wind, showing his power.

He could hear the man step back a few paces, then run forward, swinging the knife, Brint swayed back to dodge the knife, he could hear the sound of the knife slashing through the air and the wind from it... was so sharp. He backed off and smiled, the knife was well made, better then his own axe, he should find the person who made it, a weapon's dealer or supplier would be a necessity when he got his Tribe together. He spoke calmly to the man, "Please tell me, who made that knife, or who sold it to you, I will pay for that information so neither of us has to fight." The man seemed hesitant but spoke slowly, almost as if he was picking out his words carefully, "This dagger... was made in the forges owned by Lumi Kirsikka... now give me the gold." Brint would have rolled his eyes if it would have shown anything but his white eyes, he took a small pouch of coins and tossed it to the man, the wind blowing through the area to give him the direction he needed along with another mental layout of the area.

He walked through the town aimlessly asking around about this Lumi Kirsikka, finally someone said he knew her. He sent a note ahead with a courier and told Brint to follow him. Brint kept track of his pacing, using the wind to help learn where he was going, he figured out he was being lead around in circles, the wind and smells were the same. He followed the man until they made it to a door, the man spoke out, "Miss Kirsikka has gotten the note by now, she will decide if you are worth seeing or not, someone will be down to take you up to her if she decides favorably if not... you'll be sent away." The man walked away, Brint stayed ramrod straight up, the axe on his back felt like it needed to be in his hand, he was nervous, he could smell hot steel and he could feel the cold wind... it was reeking havoc on his senses, he hoped Miss Kirsikka would allow him in soon.

Lumi leaned over the window of her office, observing her forges at work. The sound of hammers and steam had finally stopped grating on her after months and months of having to listen to it. She turned and checked her papers, making sure for the fifth time that she had caught up on her work. With light steps the elemental strode downstairs to watch over her forges, at her top smiths working on a multitude of projects for fine blades. One of her guards hurried up to her.

"There's a blind orc outside who wishes to meet you. Probably a weapons deal." The guard said. Lumi rolled her eyes. She had an outlet store! It could handle all the little weapon purchases that most could offer, but idiots kept asking a woman who ran a company with five forgeworks and five hundred total employees. One normally put down tens of thousands of gold before talking to her. Lumi promptly walked to the door, hoping he was simply after a weapon from a master smith and confused as to who to ask for one. Lumi stepped outside, touching the ground so lightly that it was no doubt impossible to hear her.

"Welcome, sir. I assume you are after high quality weapons? I'm Lumi Kirsikka, the owner of Kirsikka Enterprises." Lumi greeted. "Please come inside, the protective barrier is weaker in this part of the city." Lumi stepped back inside, knocking on the doorframe as she passed. Within was a storm of hammers and shouting. "This is where we forge our high-grade weapons. Every night, finished blades are moved to a safer building, so even if you aren't around for your order we'll still have it stored. If you are interested in something worth less than seventy gold, I'd suggest you head to our storefront on the main commons in the Merchant District." Lumi explained. She half expected a man dressed so shabbily to realize with a start that he was in the wrong place.

Brint only had to wait a few moments before the voice of a young woman met his ears, this Miss Kirsikka was young for a well off merchant, he nodded as he followed her inside, the bouncing sounds from the walls helped give him a general area, he knew where the forges were and where the walls were, but nothing to refined, but the smell of molten steel, sweat, and... a very light scent of blood, probably from what few mishaps, burnt flesh, an bloody palms, blisters, those kinds of things would leave this light scent that was covered to most people, but his enhanced sense of smell let him barely pick it out.

He turned his attention to the woman as she spoke of her place and about how he should go to her store for purchases under seventy gold, his purchases would be over seventy gold easily. He shook his head, "I will be purchasing more then seventy gold worth I assure you Miss Kirsikka, soon I will be taking over an entire orc tribe that wanders between the mountains and Norwood, we have no smiths so we buy and trade from human towns and villages where we can. Though the weapons tend to be substandard, even my axe is substandard, I was lucky that it's heavy enough that I can hack apart my foes." He stroked his short white beard and did the mental calculations, he had no gold at the moment, but he had explored many regions with his tribe and his brother had given him maps of certain areas, mostly of old mines in the mountains close to the northern edge, a week's hard ride from Striberg.

He felt his small pack hanging from his hip, and spoke again, "I may not have money at the moment... but I have information worth quite a bit of gold, information on old ore mines, mines that my brother has told me still have quite a bit of ore in them. My old tribe took only enough for us to trade with for weapons, if I remember my brother's words correctly he said they used to be old ore deposits that were used several hundred years ago when the orcs had a High King. If you would like to discuss the maps could we go somewhere more private, I can feel lingering eyes..." He stopped for a moment. He turned to look in the direction of the nearest forge, the hammer blows drowned out most things but for some reason he sometimes he seemed to imagine the racial slurs over everything, he shook his mind from his hate of bigots, close minded fools, and his paranoia he turned his attention back to miss Kirsikka, hoping she would take the chance of gaining a few rather well stocked ore deposits long forgotten since the fall of the orcs.

Lumi allowed him to speak. She even managed to keep her face straight as her body became tremendously amused. A wild eyed idealist was something she had been hunting for, but this one was a little too wild eyed. The moment he stopped talking she held her hand up to silence him.

"Ah. Ore mines, eh? What would an arms dealer want to do with ore mines? I suppose you could say, 'an arms dealer needs the base product! Wouldn't it be cheaper to harvest raw materials yourself?' to which I would say, don't be such a fool. It costs hundreds of gold to send expert surveyors out to test your claim. It would cost thousands to set up an actual mining town. I'd need hundreds more employees, all of which would be ticking away at my profit margins. I would need to produce caravans. Guards. A few ships specifically for carrying ores from place to place, all through this wretched northern sea. I already have difficulty keeping a few shipments safe, imagine if I had to watch over a whole new fleet?"

"Could you imagine the chances of me picking up a few corrupt people who would happily winnow away at my profits simply so they could get a few extra gold? Actually, let me answer that question: You could not imagine it. You are an imbecile of the highest degree if you think I would deal in raw materials. Have I gotten through to you on how much more expensive it is in the short term to set up a mining organization? It would be a losing venture for years!"

"In the long term, my profits are not from creation of new weapons, orc. It is from buying and selling old weapons. A tribe in Istan three months ago purchased a five thousand gold worth of battle-ready weapons. I purchased a set from a bankrupt mercenary company, tested them for battle readyness and then refurbished the ones that would not work. That whole deal cost me three thousand gold. A month later the tribe in Istan was crushed entirely by the world's finest ground army, which had no need of any more weapons. So I offered to buy them, for a neat thousand gold in total. They were reprocessed by my Taras division, which cost me only a half-thousand more. I will be selling those weapons again for five thousand gold. You might argue that what I do is petty theft, playing the markets, but darling orc, who else has use for thousands of weapons but an arms dealer?" Lumi explained. She stared out at the few smiths who had taken a break to watch their boss demolish yet another hopeful.

"If you wish to deal with me, take your tribe over. Collect a down payment of a thousand gold. I've got a lovely bunch of weapons I can sell you the weapons on an excellent loan, perfect for a growing nation." Lumi offered.

Brint listened to her and nodded, it made sense, but there was more that she could do with them, "Who says you need to use it, giving them to people as gifts of good will, to help start up other mining companies, these could be used in many ways, mining it yourself is an option, you could sell them to mining companies if you'd like. As for the thousand gold and tribe, I have neither at the moment, I am looking to recruit people into my tribe, anyone is welcome, but I doubt you have interest in tribal affairs, you want to talk money is my guess." He stroked his beard and nodded, taking a mental head count of his old tribe and a few others he had come across, he had asked about families and such and had learned the rough sizes of them, but nothing exact.

He spoke once more, "Ah, how rude of me, my name is Brintonious, please call me Brint. Now as for money, I know you wouldn't want to pay much for mines you know nothing about, so I was hoping we could come to an arrangement, sort of like a payment plan, I send you money and you make the blades, axes, maces, everything I order, of course I am more then willing to talk out how much money I should send per month along with for how long. This way you keep the weapons, keep the gold that I send you, and if I... expire before I collect the weapons you could sell them and keep whatever I already gave you, does that pique your interest at all?" He hoped it did, what he was suggesting could give him a rather large disadvantage, he only got so much gold so often, if he could scrounge up a few hundred gold from doing mercenary work it wouldn't be so bad... maybe even Miss Kirsikka could give him jobs, after all, caravan guards don't have the longest lifespan.

Lumi chuckled at him as he spoke of good will. She had plenty of good will, but it seemed this orc would need further instruction in the art of business.

"If you want something to come of that mine, sell the location to a mining company or a prospecting company. Striberg Prospectors are in town, and they'd probably buy the location from you. After sending prospectors out, they'd probably give you a few hundred gold per good mine that they found in those locations." Lumi explained. She nodded quickly and managed a smile at his name. "Now, if you wish to do that and slowly work up a stockpile of weapons, that would work just fine. I can give you one of our catalogues for small orders so you can see weapon prices and order those that you see fit. Just stop by some sort of postal service." Lumi explained. She glanced towards the door.

"If that's all, I need to get back to work. A forgemaster always has something to sign." Lumi stated.

Brint nodded, "I believe that I will contact you when I can, I will do as you suggest, I will come back as soon as I can. As for the catalogues I don't think many people will read it out loud for me. After all, would you read something out loud for an orc if he asked you to for seemingly no reason?" He turned back to the door and started to walk towards where he remembered it, "I will come back in two weeks with my findings and earnings from these maps." He let himself out the door and went back down the alley, asking the first man directions to a prospecting company or mining company.

It was little more then two weeks later, he had sold the maps to some company known as 'Striberg Steel', apparently they supplied quite a few blacksmiths in the area with quality iron. He found out that the mines he had sold them the maps to where actually quite valuable, he was sitting at two thousand gold from an iron mine that had a small vein of adamantine in it. He had four men carrying chests of gold, he had paid them with silver coins and stopped before the door. He nodded and heard them leave, he knocked on the door again, hearing someone ask who he was and what his business was, he smirked as he responded, "Brint the Blind Orc, I was here two weeks ago about a weapons storage and weapons purchase. Please tell her I am willing to spend at most two thousand gold." He stood there, waiting for the man to tell Lumi exactly who he was.

((OOC:Sorry it took me so long, won't happen again))

The orc left, leaving her to her business. It was doubtful she would ever see him again. Few of the dreamers like him survived long enough to even make their first payment. The rest gave up before they even gathered a cadre of followers.

It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least, when her guard informed her that the orc had returned with two thousand gold. She had no idea who he swindled to get that sort of money, and didn't bother asking. She left the confines of her office to greet him personally, while summoning her staff. Almost instantly the money was taken from the men who were supposed to hold it and divied out amongst her staff.

"Ah, two thousand? A considerable sum of weapons can be purchased with that amount. I'll need you to sign off on a few forms to make sure this contract is official. My scribes are checking your gold over right now to make sure we can get an accurate total of the weight and value." Lumi explained. One of the scribes stood nearby, holding up a set of forms. "Jerod will take dictate out the forms to you, and the invoice. It'll all be quite painless." Lumi explained. The scribe began reading off the forms as Lumi began checking with her scribes to see where she had the requisite weapons.

Brint smirked, he had said he would be back, though when the questions started he slowly answered them, he had rented a small warehouse near the pier, filling out what kind of materials would be used for the creation of the weapons, he filled out his order with mostly halberds, axes, and maces, he knew full well that the orc tribes preferred weapons used in formations, weapons that could sever limbs, and weapons that could crush armor and bones, as for materials he wanted steel, nothing fancy about his request, he wanted numbers right now, once his tribe grew large enough to need several Warchiefs he would order specialized weapons for them. Brint signed what he needed to with a rough scratching of his name down on the paper, he had learned to write before he had gone blind, but not much, just enough to scrawl down his name and a few small words.

Once it was all signed over he turned to where he had last heard Lumi, "I have rented a small warehouse near the pier, I have a piece of paper with the number written on it, I'll hand it to your scribe so your people will know where to send them for storage." He dug through his pockets, taking out the paper, handing it to the scribe. He spoke once again, "Could you show me some axes, halberds, and maces? I should say I need to feel them to know their shapes, sizes, and weight, it's not uncommon for merchants to cheat the blind man, I hope you understand my reasons." He waited for her response, his request was probably unheard of, but he didn't care, a few merchants had cheated him before and he had gotten his revenge by taking the heads of their horses, he doubted he would be cheated, but he just needed to be cautious, if Lumi cheated him he doubted his ability to strike back at her since she could probably hire more mercenaries then he could kill, he would just have to hope she saw his reasoning and accepted it.
