Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The blood drained from Cazmia's already pale face as she came to a sudden realization. Her face having contorted in an expression of primal horror, she squeaked and rushed out of the room, down the stairs and across the hall. Still dressed in only a sheer nightgown and white fluffy slippers, she pounded on the door. After a significant delay, it opened slightly to reveal a young, black-haired woman shrouded in shadows. Her hair fell in waves across her shoulders and back, partially obscuring how exhausted she looked.

Erin took the initiative and spoke first. Her words were so frantic and desperate that they basically poured from her mouth. "What if the Red Rogue doesn't actually exist?" Sophie, Cazmia's former roommate, prolific healer and the girl in question, almost closed the door, but the runic wizard jammed her fingers into the gap. "Wait, wait! Why don't you care? It's Midwinter tomorrow morning! What if the little boys and girls don't have presents in the morning because the Red Rogue doesn't actually exist?"

"Please just go back to sleep," Sophie begged, apparently too tired to explain the flawed logic in the argument. "And stop eating sugary food so late at night."

"But I didn't. I swear." Erin's pointed ears, which stuck out from between locks of ruffled hair, drooped in a mixture of sadness and indignation. "This is a serious concern- ack!"

Sophie had pressed harder on the door, crushing Cazmia's fingers and forcing her to pull them away. The door closed and locked immediately. "Good night and good Midwinter," Erin's former roommate said through the barrier. The arcanist's arms drooped to her sides and she frowned dejectedly. She briefly considered visiting her other former roommates, but Caz honestly doubted they would be more willing to verify this with her in the middle of the night than Sophie was. But then an idea came to her.

If the Red Rogue didn't exist, she could take his place and save Midwinter in Striberg.

Caz rushed back up to her room to assemble her outfit. Thankfully she had an excess of red velvet and white fur trim from an earlier event, as well as a long red cloak meant for being positively fashionable. She got to work assembling her Red Rogue outfit, adding velvet and the trim to clothing she already had lying around. For the final touch, she cut holes into a black bandanna and tied it around her eyes, giving herself a thievish look.

Out on the rooftops of Striberg, Cazmia the Red Rogue emerged to survey her domain. Her red cape billowed dramatically in the wind as she sat poised on the shingles, very conspicuous despite the thief mask, watching out for the real Red Rogue if she could. If not, her mission would begin.

Kagiso had been sent to confirm the existence of a male in a red coat rushing across the rooftops of Striberg. She had no idea who it was, simply having been called The Red Rogue. Her employers looked at her incredulously when she mentioned that she had never heard of such a man. Northerners were weird, letting long-time criminals run amok without repercussions, she thought to herself.

Kagiso exited the mage's guild, after being laughed out of the building. Something about the Red Rogue being too unimportant and ultimately beneficial for them to bother with. The mercenary was not used to rogues being spoken of too highly, and she was too distracted by how they were fixated on her eyes. It wasn't a look of joy, it was more the one that her sister had when she deconstructed some new bit of technology that had been given to her. As she left, she glanced to the top of the structure. If she was hiding on rooftops, she would use the sprawling and chaotic guild of mages as her home base. Her eyes lit, a pale orange color shining from the depths. She scanned the structure, and not too far from where she stood a figure in red. Funny how it wasn't wearing pants, but rogues were weird like that.

Much to the surprise of mages, a woman in a dress walked clean up their walls. She walked all the way to the woman, staring upwards at her pose and her dress. With a jolt Kagiso realized the Red Rogue was male. But it was likely this woman knew something about her quarry. She casually walked onto the roof and smiled at the girl. Her eyes cooled off their glow, and the little gears and rods slipped back behind her false iris and pupils.

"Are you after the Red Rogue or one of his lackeys? I'm looking for him." Kagiso said, her voice soft and barely audible over the winds. She folded her arms and adjusted her stance, allowing stocking clad legs to slip from her slitted dress. At that moment she wished she had never worn the dress, but she was worried normal clothing wouldn't get her into the mage's guild.

The sudden speech from a figure in the darkness made Caz jump and nearly lose her footing. Thankfully she caught herself before she would have slid down the roof and fell to her death. She really needed to get used to this whole roof-hopping thing. But her eyes lit up at the soft words of ze female next to her. "Why yes, actually! My job is twofold." As her eyes adjusted, Cazmia could see that her new roof-sitting pal was in a gorgeous dress.

"I came out here to find the Red Rogue. And, if he didn't exist, I would perform his duties on his behalf. Fulfilling the legend of stealing from the rich and giving to those in need, especially poor children. Would you like to join me, ah-- what's your name and the name of your technician? Those eyes are so wonderful they stop being technology and become more like a work of art. I'm serious."

Somehow her mission statement had turned into gushing about this stranger's mechanical eyes. Oh well; Erin rolled with it.

Kagiso listened to the woman explain. It was possible that the Red Rogue had been a spontaneous volunteer year after year, but the odds seemed too slim. There was probably a rogue and this sweet young woman was selflessly picking up his cause! If this was anything like in a story, the Rogue would appear and congratulate them on a job well done.

"I'll assist. My technician is my sister, and she rather likes living alone. She usually replaces broken wings, so eyes were simple she said." Kagiso explained. She stood next to the woman, the skirts of her dress flapping dramatically. "What are we going to do now?" Kagiso inquired of her temporary employer.

"Aww, you can't tell me her name, is she that secretive? I always had a fondness for shy people," Caz mentioned, clearly delighted that the strange woman was even helping her. "But I'll ask you more about that stuff later. We have business to do!" In a single motion the runic mage reached into her shirt and pulled out an extra uniform, one made of soft green material that Caz had whipped together just in case she happened upon an assistant with the exact same height and build as this random woman. The Red Rogue-in-disguise swiftly got to work outfitting Kagiso in this new uniform, making sure that it didn't look too offensive with her current dress.

She finally pulled back and admired her work. "I really like it on you! It accentuates your assets! Now, please, can you tell me your name? I don't want to call you 'hey you' or 'assistant' this entire time." Upon hearing the name, Erin gave her a formal greeting via tight hug. "Now, our first target is the toy shoppe just down the road. We'll break in the back door. If none of the toys have been stolen, that means the Red Rogue likely doesn't exist and we should perform his duties ourselves. Understand?"

Kagiso nodded quickly, leaving her sister's identity a secret. Then the woman drew out a garment somewhat like her own, and she immediately made Kagiso change into the new garment. The marksman struggled for a moment and then let it happen. She quietly folded her dress into her bag, looking at the other woman with wide eyes. It wasn't every day someone decided you needed new garments. Her comments only made Kagiso blush deeply.

They snuck behind the Toy Shoppe, and Kagiso drew her repeating crossbow from hiding. She leveled it carefully and fired into the lock, knocking it out and creating an easy doorknob. She twisted the end of the quarrel and entered, walking through the back room and into the front. The front window display still had toys, as did the shelves. Kagiso paused for a moment and looked at her partner in crime.

"This toy shop had a front window!" Kagiso said.

Cazmia shrugged. "It's a lot more discreet to sneak in through the back, anyway," she whispered to her ally. Once her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she gasped. "None of the toys are gone! I-... I can't believe the Red Rogue doesn't exist." It was a pretty big toy shoppe, too; the one in the more affluent district of Striberg. These were expensive toys that belonged in the hands of nice poor kids instead of sniveling, spoiled brats on Midwinter morning. The wizard continued through the shoppe, running her fingertips over the goods as she moved, a concerned frown on her face.

When she reached the front of the shoppe, she reached into her shirt and pulled out a pair of quite large burlap sacks for stuffing all the goods. Caz handed one to Kagiso and got to work stuffing toys into her bag. "Make sure the toys you pick look really fun to play," she whispered to her friend. When they were almost filling their sacks with stolen goods, a dog barked outside. Cazmia flinched and hefted the entire thing over her back. "Bloodhounds! The Guard must be searching for the Red Rogue too!" she squeaked. "How should we escape?"

Kagiso hurried around, picking up only the best toys. She focused mostly on the ones that looked more mechanical, the little carts and wind up toys. Kagiso left the dolls alone, wondering who would ever want to play with something like that. She also wondered why children needed toys with the great outdoors around, when they could go and discover the hidden places of the world. The huntress promptly realized her childhood had been odd to say the very least. Hounds howled outside as Cazmia seemingly forgot that they were breaking and entering.

She grabbed the girl and bolted out of the back of the building, sprinting outside and then grabbing her close. Wings unfolded from her back with mechanical snaps and hisses, hundreds of ornate feathers forming from an almost-liquid material. The two soared into the air, and straight towards the building across the alley. Kagiso's feet impacted the wall at a run, and she leaped up the wall at the very end, pressing them deep into the night sky.

"Where to, Red Rogue?" Kagiso asked, using the title she suspected the woman would prefer.

Erin squeaked loudly when Kagiso stole her away, sack of toys and all, and took to the skies with retractable wings. Caz's squeak instantly shifted to a surprised and curious gasp upon catching sight of those limbs. "Wow! Those are gorgeous! Now I really need to meet your sister!"

Kagiso asked what their next move was. Still being held surprisingly tightly by the woman, Cazmia glanced over to all the toys they had stolen. "I think this will be enough for the delivery. We can at least hit the poorer residential district of Striberg, the Copper Quarter." She wiggled a tiny hand out of Kagiso's grip to point in the right direction. "That way, please!"

When they arrived, Erin instructed her helper to drop them in the back alley of a street of slightly run-down houses. The wizard was silent for a few seconds, pacing around the back, looking at possible ways to get in. "I'm... I'm actually not a very accomplished thief, so I don't really know much about this sort of stuff. And I doubt we can do the Red Rogue's method of climbing in and out of the chimney; it's too narrow." She led them to the front door and tested the knob. To her surprise, it was open. Stribergers really trusted each other, didn't they? Caz's voice fell to a whisper. "Be very quiet."

They snuck into the house, burlap sacks in hand.

Kagiso tilted, gently guiding them towards where Cazmia pointed. It was good that Cazmia was going to go ahead with her original plans. Their glide dropped them into the largest, straightest street Kagiso could find. The landing was surprisingly gentle, mostly because Kagiso was so worried about her cargo. Caz stated she was a poor thief, which seemed about right from Kagiso's perspective. This woman clearly didn't have the slightest clue about any sort of crime. Then she found herself sneaking into the house, directly behind the woman. Thankfully no one was awake as they crept between children sleeping on the floor to the chimney, where a branch of pine awaited with a few meager sacks beneath. Kagiso quickly took stock of the children and laid out a few gifts, leaving Caz to deliver the rest. She located a plate of cookies on the fireplace. With deft fingers she secreted them on her person and left eating one.

"We only really have enough gifts for a few more houses, miss. Maybe we should do an orphanage instead of random homes?" Kagiso suggested.

When they succeeded in delivering gifts to the first house, Caz listened to her helper's advice before dramatically stroking her chin in thought. "Hmm... splendid idea, my assistant!" Hefting the slightly lighter sack back over her shoulder, the wizard scanned the streets for signs of the orphanage. It was the middle of the night, and she wasn't that familiar with the Copper Quarter as it was. She located it and they snuck in that direction.

Occasionally she would find a particular house especially moving and would try to convince Kagiso for them to leave just one or two toys in there. This made their trip to the orphanage much slower, but they still had several hours before the sun would rise and Midwinter would be here. On the home stretch to the orphanage, Caz began shivering. "I really should have brought something more than a cloak..." she mumbled to herself. "But we're almost there! See, that building just a block down."

Kagiso followed after.

"I'm Kagiso Cha'ne, miss," Kagiso said to the woman. The one thing that surprised Kagiso most about this outing was how warm Striberg was. She had expected to have a chilly chest and tepid thighs, at least the slit that wasn't covered by skirts or stockings, but instead she was pleasantly warm. They walked across the Copper Quarter, and then Cazmia pointed out the orphanage. This building would be more difficult to break into, it likely had actual security to keep the orphans safe. She checked the buckles on her boots and left her bag with Caz.

The woman crept up the wall, making sure she had handholds even though her boots could stick to just about anything. Kagiso reached a window open by about a foot, and attempted to slip inside. She squeezed herself through with a considerable amount of effort, crawling across the floor until her legs were through. The orphans were thankfully asleep, leaving the infiltrator some time to adjust her clothes and make sure she was somewhat neat. Kagiso crept downstairs, identifying the spindly tree left for the children. There were already a few gifts beneath. Kagiso quickly organized the gifts into piles by name. Cazmia didn't seem like a good person to pass a sneaky conversation with. The mercenary walked across the room, then opened the door for Caz.

"I organized the presents by child! Just make sure each kid gets an equal number, okay?" Kagiso ordered. The woman suspected a deviation from this plan would result in orphans having a pitched battle over who gets which toys.

Cazmia raised her eyebrows, realizing she had forgotten something important. She extended her hand out to Kagiso and shook it enthusiastically again. "And I'm not actually the Red Rogue; I'm Erin Cazmia, a student here at the Academy. I was just devastated to realize the Red Rogue didn't exist, and wanted to do everything I could to help."

She waited patiently, observing Kagiso deftly make it into the building and open up the front door for her. Her eyes lit up when the door opened, and she tried to drag both bags in but failed and ultimately required the mechanical girl's help. Caz took her assistant's instructions by carefully rationing out all the toys so every single little orphan would be happy. Then they snuck out.

Without anything left to do, Caz stopped and gave Kagiso a big hug. "It was really nice working with you, miss Kagiso! Visit me at the Academy whenever you want, I live in a single this year so no worrying about interrupting roommates or anything." She gave a little giggle, hugged her new friend again, and took a few steps back toward the direction of the Academy. She'll want to be sleeping sound in her bed when everyone realizes the toys had arrived. "And you need to tell me your sister's name someday! I must meet the woman who made those gorgeous grafts!"
