| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Mist made it up to the upper level just in time to get the attention of two of the ice monsters. For a few moments, that left Firaliel with the griffin to deal with. She dodged out of the way of the creature's talon strike and moved around the monster. It turned to face her, paying no heed to what was behind it. Firaliel's back was to the wall, and the griffin's claws were threatening to rip her legs to shreds. She delivered a powerful kick, just high enough to avoid getting her feet scratched up. The kick didn't do a lot of damage to the monster, but its weight was insufficient to keep it from sliding away, and slide it did until it reached the stairwell. Fira heard the creature crashing down the stairs. She knew that the fall most likely wouldn't do serious damage, but that particular ice creature would be out of the fight for a few minutes at best, likely less. Fira was a bit surprised to see the dragon showering Mist with ice shards. These creatures were more dangerous than it initially appeared. If the dragon had its breath weapon, that meant the other creatures likely had versions of their full-sized counterparts' attacks. This was not good. Firaliel knew that their best option was likely to use the same strategy they'd used on the ice giant, following up a few of Fira's unarmed strikes with a few good spear stabs. However, with five of the monsters against them, it would be harder to work together here, unless they could throw more monsters down the stairs. Once she'd dealt with the griffin, Fira turned to find the treant coming at her. The basilisk was also approaching, but it was still at least a couple of seconds from reaching Fira. She was careful not to look into its eyes as she fought the treant. Fira dodged the treant's initial strike and responded with a punch that was more downward than forward, intended to damage the target rather than send it sliding away. |

The sphinx opened its maw, revealing a row of tiny teeth as sharp of daggers. The miniature creature lunged at the valkyrie, its jaws gnashing together as it tried to pierce her armor. The woman whipped her weapon around, but she misjudged her strike and just barely missed its feline body. The beast scrabbled at her breastplate for purchase, its claws attempting to pierce the thick adamantine as it tried to force its head in the gap between her gorget and helm to bit at the flesh underneath. If she thought the beast would heed her advise she would have told it not to bother. The master blacksmith in Oantan had crafted the armor specifically for her form. The pieces interlocked perfectly, leaving no chinks for her enemies to attack through. Mist snarled and brought up her right hand, wrapping her fingers around the sphinx's tail and flinging the creature away. It slammed into the wall with a sharp noise, spiderweb cracks spreading across its body, but it did not stop its assault. "In the name of Riflettere, what foul magic powers these beasts?" Fira was bogged down as fell, fighting against the miniature treant, griffin, and basilisk simultaneously. She flicked the butt of the spear towards the basilisk before it could attack the woman, sending the serpentine creature rolling back. Before she could give more assistance to the woman the dragon harged forward again, sending another spray of icicles towards her. Mist grit her teeth and absorbed the brunt of the attack, knowing that if she dodged it would only strike her companion. Lacking the enchanted armor, the breath weapon could potentially kill Fira. "Enough!" Mist used her left hand to draw one of the javelins from her hip, spinning the three-foot long polearm deftly before jumping forward and stabbing it straight down. She stabbed it straight through the thin membrane of the dragon's wing, pinning it to the floor. The animated statue hissed and growled, trying to free itself from the short spear. Mist grinned harshly and brought her boot down directly on the dragon's miniature skull, feeling the impact reverberate up her leg. She continued to stomp on its head with all of her might, ignoring the desperate attempts of the sphinx to stop her attack. After half a dozen kicks she finally felt something collapse under her adamantine boot, the icy reptile's skull crumpling like an eggshell. Its body finally fell prone, whatever force that had animated it fading once it had received a grievous enough injury. "Just keep hitting them... They'll fall eventually!" She stabbed out quickly, stabbing the point of the spear into the griffin's back to keep it from jumping on Fira. |

Firaliel continued to fight, delivering another hard punch into the treant, snapping off several limbs. She followed up with a powerful kick, but the creature rooted itself into the ground. The force of the kick did more damage to the ice creature, but it held its position and continued to strike at the warrior monk. She was now forced to deal with the basilisk as well. She'd heard of the basilisk's gaze attacks back at her home, but she didn't want to know how the attack differed in this version of the creature. She dodged a strike from the creature and responded with a punch that did some damage. She followed up with a kick that struck the creature hard as it came downward, dealing a fair amount of damage. It was more challenging to guage damage to the creature while she was trying to avoid its gaze attack. While she was dealing with those two creatures, she saw that the griffin had returned quickly from its trip down the stairs and was coming at her again. Fira delivered a kick to the basilisk intended to send it sliding away from her again. It seemed to have learned from the first time she had done that, making an effort to slow its slide, but it still slid several feet, giving Fira time to deal with the treant and the griffin. She moved out of the path of the griffin's initial strike, and as it attempted to make a second strike, trying to leap onto her, Mist's spear caught it. Fira took advantage of this to focus on the treant. She delivered a series of punches in quick succession, enough to force the creature entirely to the defensive. Fira could see that this creature was taking serious damage, but she couldn't finish it off because the basilisk had returned, striking at her again. |

The valkyrie used all of her strength to keep the griffin pinned to the ground, ignoring the sphinx as it attacked the back of her legs. Although it appeared like there were gaps in the armor on the back of her knees, it was actually an illusion created by the interlocking adamantine plates. The icy construct continued to pry at her armor uselessly as she focused her attacks on the griffin, stabbing its back time after time after time. With each further strike more cracks spread across its frame, but it was still moving, Mist growled and drew the polearm back with both hands, swinging it more like a club than a spear. The haft of the weapon caught the creature on one of its wings, shattering the appendage. The griffin opened its beak in a silent shout of pain, falling to the ground and curling up into a small ball. She did not even pause to appreciate this small victory, turning her attention back to the sphinx. She kicked backwards to knock the creature of of her leg, sending it tumbling down the corridor. This is useless. These things are too resilient for us to make any progress. We've dallied here for too long. A quick glance at Firaliel revealed that the martial artist was having as little luck as she was. The valkyrie quickly searched the hallway for the closest doorway, seeing it was roughly a dozen feet down the hall. "Firaliel! Run for the doorway!" She rushed towards the woman, stabbing out with her spear with pinpoint precision. She managed to force the basilisk to retreat away from her companion. The serpent curled up to stare up at her, its carved eyes meeting her for the barest of seconds. A wave of icy cold spread through Mist's body, chilling her to the bone. She bit back a scream, knowing that this was the statue's version of a basilisk's deadly stare. The treant unrooted itself from the floor, charging at them with its branch-like arms spread wide. The valkyrie stumbled towards the door, hearing the statues scrabbling along the floor behind her. She hoped that Firaliel had managed to get inside. She barreled through the door, slamming it shut behind her and holding it shut with all of her strength. There were several loud thumbs as the icy statues struck the door, scratching at the surface and trying to gain entry. Mist grunted and drew another one of her javelins, using it to bar the door shut. She stepped away from it warily, preparing to jump forward and slam it back closed if the throwing spear wasn't sturdy enough to keep the door shut. After a few moments it seemed clear that they could not gain entrance, and the valkyrie finally relaxed. She sighed and looked at her companion. "Where to from here?" Her voice still echoed oddly due to her helmet, but it helped to hide the exhaustion in her tone. |

Firaliel was starting to realize that this battle was going to take a while, possibly too long. She was surprised that they had yet to see ordinary guards, particularly with all the noise they'd been making. It might have been since they were all out fighting or hanging out in that barracks room. Regardless of the reason, it was good for the two warriors as they attempted to break into the fortress that no guards had been sent to investigate. Mist also seemed to realize that the battle was starting to drag out. She decided to get away from the things rather than attempting to actually fight them. Fira followed Mist toward the door, after throwing a good kick at the treant. The treant looked like it was fairly close to being disabled--or whatever you called it when these things stopped moving. However, Fira made no attempt to finish the job. Before long, they were securely on the other side of the door, which was held shut with one of Mist's throwing spears. This would hopefully be enough to keep the magical ice creatures from attempting to follow them. Fira took a moment to look around before making a guess as to where to go next. They were at the junction of two passage ways, giving them four possible directions to go. One was out, as the ice monsters were there, so that left three options. Fira gestured toward the middle tunnel, which went in the same direction as the tunnel they'd been fighting in as she said, "I think that way's as good a route as any." Fira didn't know where she was going, but she was willing to make a decision as to where to go when she was asked. As long as Mist didn't try to get on her for choosing the wrong passage, she wouldn't have a problem with picking. Fira began to walk down the passage, taking the lead. |

The valkyrie guarded looked down the passageway that Firaliel had indicated, eventually nodding. By this point in time she truly had no idea where they were within the frozen palace. Thanks to their fight with the mythological ice statues she had gotten completely turned around. There was a good chance that they would run into heavy opposition no matter which way they traveled, so picking a path at random was fine with her. "Very well. I'll take the lead." She didn't mention that it would be much safer for her to be in front thanks to her heavily modified armor. Her companion was a formidable martial artists, but her clothes were not well-suited for defense. Comparatively, Mist had been struck at least a dozen blows ever since they infiltrated the White Queen's property and not a single one had managed to pierce the adamantine plates. Hopefully that would continue. If the monarch was truly the living incarnation of Congelare she did not want to sing praise to her while torn and bloody. She edged along the hallway, ignoring the tiny squeaks and clanks that accompanied every step. When they had first entered the palace, silence had been important. However, after two pitched battles and with an entire pack of vicious statues brought to life the chances of them remaining undetected was slim to none. Moving fast was more important than staying quiet. She shifted the spear to her left hand as they approached a corner, pulling another javelin out of the quiver on her pack in her dominant hand. The valkyrie peered around the corner, gasping at what she saw. Ahead of them was a giant atrium with a massive piece of ice floating in the center, slowly rotating in place. The facets of the crystal had been painstakingly carved with beautiful, flowing designs, its entire surface covered in a stunning piece of art. Strategically placed lights around the room illuminated the crystal, making it seem to glimmer with an internal illumination Walkways and balconies covered the walls around the cylindrical room, with dainty stairways leading from one level to the next. Mist slowly walked towards the scene, her eyes wide behind the adamantine great-helm. Only one of the deities of Allyria could be responsible for such beauty. She looked up upon entering the room, seeing that they were only four levels below the highest floor. One of the balconies on that level was home to a massive door. Although it was made entirely of ice, it seemed like precious stones had been placed in its surface while it was being frozen to make a breathtaking mosaic. There was no doubt in her mind that the White Queen resided behind the glorious door. Unfortunately, there were four brutish barbarians standing guard in front of it, and they had spotted her as easily as she had seen them. Mist bit back a curse as one of the men drew a horn from his belt, sounding the instrument in a loud call that echoed throughout the chamber. It was clearly an alert, letting the White Queen's forces know that their base had been compromised and intruders were nearing their ruler. The valkyrie headed for the nearest set of stairs, her armor clanging as she raced up them. A door on the next balcony opened to reveal two more barbarians, but before they could assess the situation she had skewered one through the torso with her spear, pinning him to the wall as she thrust at his companion with her javelin. Hopefully Firaliel would understand how important it was for them to reach the jewel-encrusted door as quickly as possible. |
