Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The woman stood on one of the bridges that connected the massive palace of ice to Striberg, staring out through the small slit in her helmet. She cut an imposing figure, completely covered in a suit of silvery plate armor. It was actually crafted of a type of metal unique to the ores near her homeland, as strong and unyielding as adamantine yet as light as steel. Pennants with odd symbols hung from her pauldrons, as well as a fur-lined cloak that flowed down her back. Underneath the curiass she wore a white dress that hung to her thighs over her cuisses. There was barely an inch of skin exposed for the enemy to strike at, and even then the armor had been enchanted to protect the weak points and diffuse the effects of magic. Even after over a week of fighting there was barely a scratch in the shining metal and no dents to be seen. Mist stared out at the gathered force of Imythess that waited in ranks, ready to spend another day attempting to destroy the forces of the White Queen.

The valkyrie was also a native of Imythess, so it was surprising to see her on the side of the aggressors in this conflict. However, she had an ulterior motive for being here. The warrior-handmaiden had been sent to the icy north in order to investigate the true nature of the White Queen. Alayne had suspected that the wintery monarch was actual one of her kin, a living embodiment of one of the Allyrian pantheon. Mist closed her eyes, recalling the passage in the Book of Allyria that described the lesser goddess, in the Book of the Greater.

And thus she was made of ice
And her breath was the wind
And her fury was the snow
And she was named Congelare
The Alabaster Monarch

There was a metallic ping as one of the archer's across the bridge got off a lucky shot, his arrow rebounding uselessly off of Mist's breastplate. She opened her eyes, staring out from the depths of her helmet towards Striberg. In order to earn the trust of the Queen's forces, she had been forced to join their army and help attack a city that rightfully belonged to Alayne. The Valkyrie hoped that the ruler was truly one of the gods she worshiped, because if not then her Mistress would have a truly terrible foe to face in the near future. She shifted her grip on her spear, glancing over her shoulder at the intimidating exterior of the frozen palace.

Today... I'll sneak in there today...

Firaliel had heard that there was some trouble in the northern reaches of Imythess. She arrived in the city of Striberg to find that the place was under attack by someone known only as The White Queen. Initially, she considered joining one of the armies to directly attack the White Queen's fortress, but she decided that her abilities would be better used if she could make it into the fortress.

For the past few days, she'd been with a part of the White Queen's army. While she did help them attack the city, she didn't make herself stand out, although she very well could have. Even without revealing her skill, she stood out from most of the others, as she fought without weapons or armor.

She was now standing with the army that prepared to attack the city once again. Unlike most of the people here, she did not actually want to see the city fall. She was just here to gain the trust of the people here so that she could get within the fortress. She wanted to see what the White Queen was up to and might attempt to assassinate her, depending on whether she got the opportunity to do so.

She looked around, seeing what her chances were of deserting the main army before or during its initial rush. She felt that today would be a good time to make her move against the castle. She had no idea so far that another woman was had similar intentions to her own and had also decided to get into the castle today.

The valkyrie heard a harsh shout from behind her. She did not even look at the source of the sound. She was already familiar with what it indicated; they were being ordered to attack once more. She glanced to her left, where one of the strange barbarians in the employ of the White Queen was standing next to a massive, curled horn. The man drew in a deep breath, pressing his lips to the mouthpiece and blowing. An eerie, haunting sound bellowed across the battlefield, instructing the motley forces of the Queen to move forward and attack. Mist did not join in the surge of soldiers, instead turning to the man who was in charge of the foreign forces in the army. She walked over to him swiftly, ignoring the grumbling from her supposed comrades as she pushed through the ranks. The savage looked down at her contemptuously. He had been loathe to allow any female to join his troop, but after the warrior-handmaiden had displayed her martial prowess he could not refuse. "What is it, Mist?" His voice was a low, rough grumble, his accent so thick his words were almost indecipherable.

Mist ignored the obvious odious intonation in his words and spoke herself. She had a clear accent as well, although it was musical and lilting instead of low and gravelly. "Nothing, Grashtuk. I just wanted you to-" Halfway through her sentence the valkryrie swung up the butt of her spear, cracking the metal end of the shaft into the hulking man's jaw. He stumbled backwards with his eyes wide, but Mist was prepared and reached forward with her gauntleted hand, wrapping her armored fingers around his bicep to keep him upright. The woman glanced around to make sure her underhanded attack had not been noticed, but the gathered warriors and barbarians and golems were too busy charging towards Striberg to notice any dissenters in their ranks. She smiled underneath the helm, gently lowering the man to the ground. Perfect. Let's get started.

The armored woman quickly moved past the ranks of ballistae and catapults, ignoring the stares of the men she passed as they loaded ammunition into the siege engines. Mist quickly reached the front door of the looming ice palace, staring at the frozen sheet that acted as the entrance to the structure. She rapped on the door with the butt of her spear, unaware if all she had to do was knock to make it inside the palace. The sheet of ice slowly creaked open, the doors separating just wide enough to permit a single person to squeeze through the entrance. Mist tightened her grip on the shaft of the spear, edging into the palace and cautiously peering around the interior. She would face any threat in the name of her mistress, Alayne, the living incarnation of Riflettere.

Just then, they were being ordered to move. Firaliel started to move with the others, but she was in a position to leave the horde, which she soon did. As she turned around, she saw that another woman had taken down the guard named Grashtuk. Good riddance, she thought. She had never cared much for that particular guard.

She now knew that she wasn't the only dissenter in the Queen's army. Another woman, one who had shown herself to be better than average, also seemed to have intentions against this Dark Queen. She realized that while they used very different fighting styles, they might be able to work together.

Firaliel ran down the path to the castle, behind the other woman. Like the other woman, she ignored the stares of those preparing siege weapons. Fira realized that she could do a lot of damage to the Queen's cause out here, but now wasn't the time. Right now, she wanted to get inside the castle and hopefully meet up with the other woman.

The door had just closed itself when Fira reached it. She knocked, and once again it opened. She could see the other woman not far away and said, "Are you also here to find the White Queen?"

Firaliel was standing far enough from the other woman that she would have time to realize that she wasn't an enemy, but she was ready to catch an incoming weapon just in case. If the sharpened part of a weapon reached her hand, it would be protected by the light, but magical, gauntlets she was wearing.

Mist started at the sound of a knock from behind her, swiveling quickly and pointing her spear towards the doorway. She had not planned on being discovered this rapidly, but now that the gig was up she was prepared to defend herself against the forces of the White Queen. However, the figure that entered the massive foyer was not one of the barbarians or golems that served the invading royalty, but rather another volunteer in the gathered forces. She gripped the spear tighter, preparing to stab straight through the woman when she spoke, asking if the valkyrie was also searching for the mysterious monarch. Mist did not attack, staring at the woman instead with calculating eyes from within her helm, wondering if this could somehow be a trap. But if not... I could use some help here. I have no idea what threats I could be facing, and two fighters are better than one...

The warrior-handmaiden slowly lowered her weapon, still watching the woman carefully. She was slightly taller than the valkyrie and had held weapons to speak of, but something in her stance suggested that she was more dangerous than she appeared. Mist nodded shortly before speaking, the helmet giving her words a metallic ring. "Of course. I must find out... what her intentions are." She decided not to share her information about Congelare at the last moment, knowing that this stranger would probably not appreciate the importance of her task. "My name is Mist." The valkyrie turned to stare at the entrance chamber of the palace. It had a high ceiling with towering pillars lining the hallway. Everything within the palace seemed to be made out of enchanted ice that did not melt, even when the sun was at its highest.

Mist only had a few more moments to stare around their surroundings before the sound of heavy footsteps sounded from a side chamber. She doubted that they would be lucky enough to find a third intruder within the palace and immediately started looking for a place to hide, but to no avail. The creature that emerged was like nothing the valkyrie had ever seen. It was at least nine feet tall and was humanoid in shape, although it had no traditional hands or feet to speak of. Instead its limbs ended in vicious spikes. Its entire body had been shaped out of a single block of ice. Instead of a face the creature had a single fist-sized sapphire inserted in its skull, sparks of azure energy flashing through its interior. The icy construct didn't make a single sound, simply charging towards the intruders.

Mist growled from within her helmet and dashed forward, stabbing forward with her spear. The point of the polearm scraped across the ice golem's chest, leaving only a shallow gouge in its frozen flesh. The construct's answering blow caught her in the ribcage, striking with enough force that it sent her skidding across the floor. If not for the heavy armor she wore the blow would have probably broken a rib or two, but she would still have a nasty bruise to deal with. She glanced towards her companion, hoping that the other woman would have a trick or two up her sleeve to help in this fight.

Firaliel could see that the other woman was indeed ready to attack her when she spoke. However, it turned out that it was not necessary for Fira to defend herself. She saw the other woman slowly lower her weapons. Apparent she realized that Firaliel was not someone sent by one of the White Queen's leaders to track her down, or at least she was willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

Fira had the benefit of knowing what the woman, who introduced herself as Mist, had done to one of the White Queen's guards. She was fairly sure that she was no ally of this Queen. However, she didn't know this woman, so she still had to be careful.

She replied, "I am Firaliel. I'm here to figure out what this White Queen is up to and probably hinder her attacks on the city in some way."

She knew that it might be risky to tell this woman her intentions, but she figured that if they were going to realize that their plans were wildly different, now was a good time. It was less likely now that they would outright fight if they found out such. However, before Mist had much time to respond, Fira heard a sound of footsteps on the ground.

A quick glance revealed that there were not good places to hide from whatever was coming. Firaliel attempted to be hard to see by standing close to the wall and making very little noise, but that didn't work. The creature came on anyways and began to charge at them.

Mist took the initial blow and was knocked to the ground. Firaliel realized that if she had taken such a hit, she would have taken serious injury, as she had little protection beyond her reflexes. She also knew that she couldn't let the creature have a chance to finish off Mist.

Fira rushed in. She hit the icy creature in the knee with a fast front kick. This left some minor cracks in the creature, but it was not enough to stop the thing. She creature responded with a powerful swing aimed at her ribs, but she stepped to the side and punched the arm. She attempted to grab at one of the cracks she'd just made with the claws in her gauntlets but to no effect.

The warrior-handmaiden watched her companion rush forward, launching a bare-handed attack at the frozen monstrosity. She was surprised to see that the woman was wearing a set of claws over her hands, vicious looking digits that dug into the icy flesh. Cracks spread outward from the point of impact, but the creature did not seem to feel any damage at all as it immediately lashed out at the woman. She deftly dodged the strike, bouncing back. Mist reached over her shoulder and unhooked the steel shield from her back, lifting it in her left hand. The shield might not provide the best defense against the massive foe, but it would provide another layer of protection. She charged forward once more, holding the shield in front of her and jabbing forward with the spear. The tip of the weapon dug into the golem, tearing out a chunk of ice before it spun around and her weapon was dislodged.

”This is going to take forever.” She hopped backwards as quickly as possible to avoid the stab from the icy creature’s spike-like arm, ignoring the scrape of the point against her right spaulder. The valkyrie knew that a battle of attrition wasn’t exactly beneficial to their current situation. If they stayed in one place for too long their fight would surely be overheard and act like a beacon to more of the White Queen’s guards. Mist knew that the success of an infiltration mission depended almost entirely on moving quickly and avoiding notice, two things that they were failing at miserably. Defeating this enemy as quickly as possible was pivotal to their success.

With that thought in mind the warrior darted forward again, lifting the shield so that the golem’s next strike glanced off of the steel and leaving a deep gouge in the metal. She ignored the damage to the shield, jumping forward and wrapping her right arm around the creature’s elbow. She slammed the shaft of the spear into the joint as hard as she could, feeling the frozen flesh crack at the impact. She slammed the weapon forward again, striking the same place. Mist grinned beneath her helmet as the ice started to crumble, large chunks of the ice falling from its arm. With a rough wrench she broke its arm off at the elbow, sending the lower half of its arm crashing to the floor. It shattered as it struck the ground. Mist’s victory was slightly dampened by the golem’s next strike, a counter-attack which sent her reeling. She fell to both knees, coughing in an attempt to regain her breath.

Firaliel took advantage of the icy creature's focus on Mist. While the creature struck the other warrior's armor, Fira kicked the thing's knee, near where she'd hit earlier. This hit did more damage, generating new cracks, as well as making the old ones worse. She then came in for a punch in the same spot, doing more damage. It was apparent that the thing's knee was starting to weaken, but it didn't seriously affect its ability to walk yet.

Fira was in a similar mindset to her companion. They needed to take down this creature quickly before more enemies came. She also realized that any guards that wandered nearby would hear the commotion and probably attack the pair.

Once the creature had knocked Mist away for the moment, it once again focused on Fira. She ducked under a strike that came from the side, but the creature came in with again, this time trying to smash the warrior monk into the ground with a downward strike. She wasn't in a good position to dodge to the side, so her best option was to move backward. She let herself fall backward and tucked into a roll, which brought her to her feet, out of range of the ice creature.

She said, "Go for the knee. Preferably with something sharp. I've already damaged it there." Fira thought that it was obvious enough that taking out the creature's leg would hopefully be enough to make it fall to the ground so that it would be unable to chase them.

Mist slowly managed to push herself back to her feet, using the spear to raise herself up. She glanced at the shield on her left arm. The steel was heavily dented, the wood underneath splintered from the force of the blow. She sighed and threw the shield away, the metal clattering as it struck the floor. Mist nodded when the woman spoke, her eyes locking onto the golem's wounded knee. She could see the hairline cracks that had spread out from the joint, knowing that she would have to strike that location precisely. The handmaiden rushed forward, gripping the shaft of the spear with both hands and charging towards the construct. Its attention was still focused on her companion lashing out with its remaining arm in an attempt to punch the martial artist. Mist managed to get within range of the creature before it even noticed her presence, stabbing forward with the spear.

The blade of the polearm pierced the cracks in the golem's flesh, sinking deep into its leg. She kept barreling forward, driving the weapon further into the creature's leg. It almost immediately turned and slammed its remaining first towards her, but Mist dodged out of the way just in time, leaving the spear protruding from its leg. She sprang to her feet immediately, grabbing onto the spear with both hands and diving forward, placing all of her weight on the shaft of the weapon. The polearm acted like a lever, tearing it out of the creature's leg with a crunch. A huge chunk of ice accompanied the attack, leaving it precariously balancing on the injured leg. Mist lashed out with one foot, cracking through the joint and shattering its limb.

"Finish it!" The valkyrie slapped aside the golem's remaining arm with her spear, spinning the weapon to deflect its attack. She lunged forward, stabbing through its arm and pinning the arm down to the floor. She put all of her wright on the weapon to keep its arm from striking out. "Aim for the sapphire!" Mist knew that the pulsing jewel was responsible for animating the ice structure and if they could destroy it they would be victorious, allowing them to continue with their infiltration of the palace. The valkyrie grunted from the exertion of keeping the golem's arm restrained, giving her companion the time necessary to strike at the gem.

As Fira thought, the cracks she'd made in the creature's knee were enough for Mist's spear to do some serious damage. Once she was done with the spear, all Mist had to do was give the knee a good kick, and she did just that. Fira could tell that Mist hadn't trained in unarmed combat for most of her life as she had, but it didn't take a fancy kick to knock out an already damaged monster knee, leaving chunks of ice in the ground.

Fira held back for a moment as Mist slammed her spear into the creature's arm, pinning the arm to the ground. However, once Mist had the thing pinned, she moved in quickly. She basically had a free kick at the monster while it was pinned, so she took that half second of extra time to make the kick hit hard. As per Mist's suggesion, the kick nailed the sapphire in the monster's head (which was low enough for Fira to easily kick with the monster's arm pinned).

That kick wasn't enough to completely dislodge the gem, but the damage to the head was obvious. Fira gave the gem a good punch and then placed the claws of her gauntlets into the cracks she'd made. With a good yank that was enhanced by the monster's struggles, the gem came free. Fira caught the gem and held onto it. The creature was still, clearly no longer alive with its gem removed.

She said, "We got that thing done down. We should maybe hang onto this so that the enemy can't use it again. I don't think it would be safe to try to sell it, either." With that, Fira tucked it into her belt pouch. It was a fair amount of added weight to the pouch, but it was better that than the gem being used to animate another monster.

Mist watched as her companion launched a kick at the golem's head, cracks spreading out from the point of impact and the encrusted sapphire shifting slightly. Almost immediately the construct's struggles became weaker, making her task much easier. The valyrie continued to hold the entity down as the other woman sank her clawed fingers into its skin, ripping the sapphire out. The monstrous being froze like a statue as soon as the glowing jewel was removed, proof that the gem was responsible for animating the monstrosity. Mist sighed in relief and yanked her spear out of its arm, walking around the hulking form. She considered completely shattering the construct's remaining limbs in order to keep the White Queen from repairing her servant, but she dared not risk the noise and time it would take to break through its icy flesh. We need to get going if we want to find Co- the White Queen." She mentally cursed at herself for the small slip-up, but hopefully Firaliel had not noticed the mistake.

She jogged over to the corridor the golem had emerged from ,peering around the corner warily. There was no one to be seen in the hallway, nor could she hear any guards nearby. The warrior-handmaiden frowned beneath the helm as she started down the corridor, holding the spear in front of her and preparing to strike at any ambushers. The palace seemed remarkably empty for being a stronghold of an invading monarch. After all, their battle with the animated statue had lasted for several minutes, more than long enough for reinforcements to hear their struggle and rush to reinforce the creature. Yet no one had come to its aid, allowing them to successfully dispatch the monstrosity. Perhaps she truly is Congelare and wishes to speak with me... But I cannot assume anything. I must be careful to not fail Alayne.

The valkyrie glanced around another corner, her eyes widening suddenly. Within were rows upon rows of fur-lined cots, most of the makeshift beds occupied by the barbarian soldiers that made up the majority of the Queen's forces. She yanked her head back, holding one hand out to stall Firaliel. She shook her head slowly, afraid of moving too quickly and making the pieces of her armor scrape together. She pointed with the spear towards a different hallway, edging towards it as slowly and silently as possible. Once they were both inside the hallway she gently closed the sheet of ice that functioned as a door behind them, sighing in relief. Despite her lifetime of training the girl knew she could not defeat an entire horde of savages by herself. Mist looked around, seeing a staircase that led both into the bowels of the frozen palace and higher into the structure. "Which way should we go?"[/color] She honestly had no idea where the White Queen might be secreted away. Perhaps Firaliel had obtained that information during her service among the monarch's forces and could prove useful now.

Firaliel did notice Mist's slip, but she didn't make any indication that she had. For now, she would let Mist believe that she hadn't noticed a thing. She would listen for more slips and maybe confront Mist about it later.

Firaliel replied, "I agree." They began down the corridor, Mist in the lead. She let Mist lead as they went down the hall. Firaliel was watching to the sides for a possible ambush, but none came. These halls seemed to be deserted. Perhaps most of the soldiers that typically occupied them were busy attacking the city, but Fira had no way of being certain.

Fira wasn't much surprised when Mist signaled her to stop. She then signaled toward another passage and slipped through the door. Fira waited for Mist to be through the door before she started moving. Fira's lack of armor was to her advantage here. Her steps were fairly quick, yet soundless as she walked past what looked like a barracks. Fira now saw why Mist had signaled her to stop. There was too many barbarians for the two of them to take on, even though they were both skilled fighters.

Firaliel hadn't been expecting Mist to ask her which way to go, but she did after seeing the staircase. Fira hadn't seen the inside of this castle, so she had no way of knowing where this mysterious White Queen was hiding. However, she believed that going up would be better than going down, as she had no special reason to think the White Queen was anywhere specific.

She said, "I don't know this castle, but I think up is better than down. Maybe I should go up and check if anyone's waiting for us before you climb the stairs." Firaliel didn't specifically mention that she could move with a lot less noise, figuring that it was obvious. She was no expert at sneaking, and her customary dark hair and clothing made her stand out against the ice, but she made very little noise when moving, even when she wasn't trying to walk silently.

Mist nodded, allowing the woman to ascend the staircase in front of her. She understood that the order was probably chosen due to the fact it was impossible for her to take a step without her entire suit of armor clanking and scraping together. Stealth was not a primary concern for the valkyries, but rarely were they called upon to run infiltration operations. She watched Firaliel as she walked up the staircase, wondering what the woman was doing here. Most of the residents of Imythess did not seem concerned with the doings of the White Queen and merely concerned themselves with protecting the City of Magic from the invaders. Mist knew that if the monarch did not turn out to be Congelare it would be her duty to eliminate the threat to Alayne's supremacy. It was clear that this was a powerful individual that could impede the process of the spread of the Oantan religion. The warrior-handmaiden could not permit that.

She slowly followed the martial artist up the stairs, moving as quietly as possible. Unfortunately, even when she moved as slowly as possible there was an accompanying noise, but the girl did not thank that it would give her away. Mist kept her spear tightly gripped in both hands, regretting that her shield had been bent completely out of shape in their first fight. She still had a selection of javelins with her, but the throwing polearms were only three feet long and she wasn't very efficient at using them. Mist stopped at the half-way point, letting Firaliel reach the top balcony and look around the next level before she followed her.

The corridor that the stairway opened on was ten feet wide, with statues lining the hallway. They had been carved in the likeness of various mythological animals, shrunken down to a manageable size. Although they were frozen now, as soon as the martial artist stepped onto that floor there was a rumbling noise. The statues slowly came to life, their limbs grating eerily as they began to move off of their pedestals, their maws cracking open. A entire menagerie of creatures began to move towards the intruders, none of them taller than three feet yet still deadly in their own way. There was a miniature dragon, a griffin, a sphinx, a basilisk, and a treant. The icy creatures didn't make any sound as they moved towards Firaliel, gnashing their icy teeth together and preparing to dismember the trespassers in the White Queen's home.

My post was too short with us just climbing the stairs, so I added in the next layer of defenses. I hope you don't mind.

Firaliel climbed the staircase ahead of Mist. Mist seemed to understand her request, or at least she didn't have a problem with it. Fira soon reached the top of the staircase, where she saw several ice statues, which were miniature images of powerful and huge creatures. She stepped lightly off the staircase, careful not to make any noise that would alert any guards beyond the corridor. However, she heard a rumbling noise as she stepped into the passageway, and the statues came alive. To make things worse, they were trying to kill her.

Firaliel kicked at the nearest monster, the basilisk, with a powerful forward kick. The icy creature was thrown back several feet by the force of the kick, knocking down a second statue creature (the treant) as it slid back. The ice basilisk took some damage to its head where Fira's kick struck it, but neither creature otherwise took substantial damage. Both would be able to get up and continue fighting.

Firaliel realized that while she could send the creatures sliding across the ice, it would take far too long for her to destroy them on her own. She felt that it was only a matter of time before they overwhelmed her if she didn't get help. She hoped that Mist had heard the noise and quit worrying about how much sound her armor made to get up there as quickly as possible.

OOC: It's fine. Also, we have met the requirements for the GRP, but I'd like to still finish the thread.

There was an odd slithering noise from the next level, and Mist saw her companion lunge forward in what was obviously an attack. The valkyrie grumbled underneath her breath, the soft curse lost in the depths of her helmet as she charged up the stairs. She hoped that they were far enough away from the barracks that the force of barbarians would not hear her armor, but it was more important to help Firaliel than to stay silent now. She emerged into a corridor to a strange scene. There was a collection of statues in the hallway, the icy constructs all crawling and slithering towards the woman. The warrior-handmaiden did not take the time to wonder what foul magic was animating these creatures, rushing into the fray almost immediately. She lashed out with the butt of her spear, slamming the end of the weapon into one of the griffin's wings. Like the golem they had faced earlier, it proved resilient against the physical attack, although cracks spread out from the point of impact.

"We can't seem to catch a break." Mist growled as she spun the spear, trying to dissuade the small dragon from attacking her. The miniature reptile dodged the attack, its neck coiling in a serpentine nature. The ice statue made a soft, belching noise as it opened its mouth. Rather unexpectedly, a shower of sharp ice shards shot out of its maw. The valkyrie hissed as the small icicles slammed into her armor, the temperature of the metal lowering almost instantly from the breath weapon. The girl knew that if it wasn't for the layer of protection she probably would not have survived the attack. Thankfully, the Oantan priests had enhanced the armor so that it was stronger against magical attacks, which reduced the damage done by the breath weapon.

She lashed out with the point of the weapon, managing to stab the tip down its mouth so that it could not launch another attack. Mist slammed her right foot forward, pinning the dragon's neck to the ground as she forced the spear blade further down its mouth. The valkyrie roughly wrenched the weapon to one side, tearing it out of the dragon's throat in a spray of icy chunks. Despite the damage she had done, the creature was still writhing on the ground underneath her foot. Mist raised the spear to strike again, but the dragon managed to wriggle out from underneath her boots. She stabbed the floor instead, the spear reflecting off of the ground. She looked up at the assortment of animated statues, stabbing forward with the polearm to keep the sphinx at bay.
