Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

His hopes were finally lifted. If this bard was able to connect him to somebody that might know somebody else that knew his sister, then his search was nearly over. He tried not to get too excited about it, though, because it was a possibility that the people the bard knew also had no idea who his sister was. He had to leave room for disappointment.

His eyes quickly moved over toward where the noise was coming from, and it wasn’t long before he noticed movement in the darkness. “No, but I intend to find out...” he said, quickly shapeshifting back into his hellhound form. He stood by the fire, watching and listening for whatever it was to come closer. Part of him wished for the crowd to attack him. He was dying to paint his claws and teeth with the red liquid that gave his stomach satisfaction. He glanced back at the bard, and let out a quiet growl as if to say ‘Stay here, and stay quiet’.

He turned back to look at where he saw the movement, and saw a group of... goblins? He wasn’t sure, but they did not appear to be happy. Sure, they were laughing, but that didn’t mean they were necessarily happy. It could easily mean that they were just enjoying themselves, going on a riot of sorts.

Whatever the case, they looked like they wanted to murder the two of them. The hellhound readied himself for the attack, measuring his opponents before diving into the deep end, metaphorically speaking. He wanted to make sure that he was able to attack and defend himself without being slaughtered in the end. These creatures didn’t seem like they were the agile type, which gave Tannin a large advantage. He wasn’t sure at this point which form he’d be more successful in, but his hellhound form would have to do for this fight. As they drew nearer, he charged at them, letting out a deep, thundering snarl as he leapt through the air, and landed on the closest creature.

Without a second thought, he closed his jaws around its throat, and had to tug on it a couple times before the skin let go. He threw the throat away, out of his mouth, and leapt to the side, avoiding a sharp axe to the back. He spun around, grabbed the creatures hand (the one that held the axe) and tore at it until the wrist was dislocated. The others that witnessed the attack began to get a little wary about approaching him, but there was always another goblin that stepped forth...

Torienthos was still of the cautious years of his youth when his experience in combat was not nearly enough to boast if perhaps maybe whisper or give short praise to amongst his brethren and comrades. It was thus that he relied still upon the distance keeping longbow grasped within the vise of his tawny fist. The goblins were tracked this far, their numbers finally discerned. A plan or two came to mind whilst they bloodied one of their own up before heading onwards.
The plan was simple, and he put it into action as they left the first building and began to enter the ruins further. With the capabilities of nearly any wood-elf, or elf in general, he moved like a shadow amongst the treetops whilst he'd make a descent that would allow him to pursue them into the ruins on foot. A few quick spyings from depthed orbs that were habitually at the task of seeking branches and limbs to leap and climb along grew accustomed to locating similar outreaching bricks, portions of walls, and columns that led to rooftops as well as along remnants of walls that would keep him out of their weapons and allow him the advantage of being unseen as they would be more likely to rush the surrounding rooms to search for the attacker. It was a good strategy, one he would lean upon.
Before the hellhound made his own attack, Torien would be given the opportunity to take out one of the stragglers of the group. He had to blatantly take a wiz in a corner and didn't bother excusing himself from the groups fun. They cared little enough about the matter and liably didn't even notice the lack of one of their number. Such was watched as not a head was turned to search for him or one smart enough to perhaps even take such tactics into consideration. Goblins weren't truthfully the smartest of the foul creatures that brought chaos into the world.
Such a goblin became the first of his targets. One that would be taken whilst Torien lowered into a half-squat upon a seven foot high wall of wide stones overlooking the goblin from over a street-way and into the opening of the abode that was lacking of a roof. It took but a moment to aim and tweak the already knocked arrow upon his carved longbow. The longbow being stretched to its' known degree of tightness whilst muscles strained and held with the pride of his strength. One of two eyes lined up to pass his view over the triangular head of dark metal that was thinner than the blade a man would use to skin a hide from an animal. One of three feathers at it's opposing ends was skimmed upon just barely to reset each tip to return to its strict state.
A breath would come a moment later when tension was released and the arrow was watched twirling through the air until it embedded amongst dark flesh and the feint glimmer of blood caught the nights light where it embedded itself more than a quarter of the way through the length of its' shaft. The figurine priorly standing crumbled to the ground; to become hidden amongst the shadows of the ruins.
In due time, the sound of an uproar of activity came alive further beyond where the group no doubt had found something they were looking for, or something they definitely would regret finding instead.

Shan leapt to his feet and played. Such a reaction probably wasn't the first thing most people would do when faced with a sudden horde of goblins, and it wasn't the first thing Shan did. While Tannin was already leaping into the fray and tearing at these new enemies, Shan shrieked like a little girl. However, to his credit, he then leapt to his feet and began to play, which was still an odd thing for someone faced with a horde of goblins would do, but Shan was rather special for a bard.

Playing fast and furiously, he activated a series of enchantments and powers, focusing their effects on the goblin horde surrounding them. Thank goodness he'd learned how to do that. When his powers affected everyone within hearing range, it had caused quite a bit of trouble.

Lacking many overtly offensive spells, he focused on bringing down the goblin's defenses and ability to attack. There seemed more than the two of them could handle, even if Tannin was a hellhound, so Shan focused on escape. His music took on a grating, soul wrenching edge that made many of the goblins clap their hands over their ears, unable to think properly with the tune boring into their brains. He laced the song with fear, filling the goblins with dread. Finally, he activated the Pain enchantment, hopefully ensnaring more of the beasties in its tune, and guaranteeing to take out most of their forces with agonizing pain if and when the tune stopped. For now, most of the forces surrounding them had stopped playing, either overcome with Annoyance, Fear, or the dulcet trap that was Pain.

"Um, if you could grab my bag for me, we can make a run for it," Shan said. "The pots and stuff can stay here. I need my bad, though, and I can't stop playing to grab it." Shan suddenly realized how demanding he must be sounding to the hellhound. "If you'd be so kind?"

As Tannin jumped side to side, back and forward, even he knew that the two of them couldn’t handle the goblin crowd on their own. He still fought as hard as he could though, ripping out the throats he could reach, and scratching at the ones that he couldn’t reach. Of course, he had received a few wounds in the process, but that didn’t stop him from fighting. If anything, the wounds made him angry.

When he heard the sound of the bard’s voice, he did his best to listen to what he was saying, but the roars and complaints coming from the goblins made it difficult. He heard something about kindly grabbing his bag, and the rest kind of blended in with the crowd’s noise. He didn’t pay any attention to his request, however. There were still goblins that were attacking him. So long as there was a threat, Tannin was not the type to run from combat, no matter the odds.

Most of the goblins were shouting out complaints about the soul wrenching music, but some of them had a very confused look on their faces, looking like they forgot their reasoning for the attack. Any other goblin fell to the ground, twitching and screaming in pain. There were still a few that were too far away to hear the music, but they weren’t anywhere near Tannin at the moment. A couple of the goblins that were confused still tried to attack him, and after he managed to end their lives, he backed off and moved toward Shan. The threat would have been nullified if it weren’t for the few that couldn’t hear the music, but the ones that couldn’t hear the music were blocked by the ones that could. Close enough.

He ran back toward Shan, and scooped part of his bag in his jaws, and lifted it up so that it wouldn’t drag along the ground as he ran. He didn’t let the bard leave his sight, and would drop his bag and attack again if any of the goblins managed to catch up or if anything else happened to startle him.

‡ From the distance, the sound of an instrument came to his ears, elven tips just barely discerning the notes, and then only portions of them as they were woven louder than the rest of the songs that were played. In those moments, something unexpected occurred, the goblins he'd been chasing for some time had taken on a complete change, and then changes as he watched their darkened forms amidst the ruins from his vantage point.
Torien would rise up and walk upon the still favorable portions of the roof that were beneath him. Stones moreso than wood or dirt packed areas that might easily cave in on him if he pressed his weight upon such. Loose pebbles and shavings fell away beneath him, or dusted whatever chamber was not in use directly below. As he drew closer, combat was etched out amongst the blaze of a campfire that illuminated that portion of the ruins, and led him to count the dying, dead and still wailing. He though, did not truly count, but rather discerned what was occuring as the two who were no doubt the cause of the ongoings were perceived making a run for it.
As the distance was judged, he also realized that they were within range of his longbow. Timing became crucial perhaps as he knew not the contents of the spell being woven upon the goblins. Unfamiliar with bards if anyone were to actually ask him his knowledge of their abilities extent. The charms placed upon the goblins, those that remained alive at least, were thus targeted. Those that were closest he began to take out. More so because they seemed not affected by the weaving of the musics spell as the rest of them, but still were quite hesitant in helping their comrades, and were either arguing about what to do or dancing about with taunts and threats at the two departing the scene beyond.
These would be picked off one after the other as his shots grew more practiced and skilled. Of course an arrow or three would miss, and skim over their heads to lodge amongst one of the victims of the song beyond. Or skitter into the debris to lodge and break apart. The advantageous moment to lower their numbers was taken nonetheless, and perhaps those left uncharmed would all be killed before those remaining would elapse from the spells woven upon them, and perhaps have to come to a conclusion that one of the two they chased had killed the others, and that the hidden one pursuing them was not to be known of at all.
With due need for revenge, the goblins no doubt would pursue. They though, were no horde, perhaps a dozen or two at the most..but much lesser after these moments.

"Thanks for grabbing my bag," Shan said as they began to run through the horde, most too distracted by the music to strike out. Shan ended up kicking a few who managed to raise a weapon at him, but mostly it was jumping and dodging around the group. "Um, I'm still open to helping you find your sister, but..." Shan smashed a goblin who looked ready to bite his leg. "Um, were do you think we should head?"

For now, they were simply dodging through the streets, working on breaking away from the horde. They dodged and hurried through the ruined streets. Without a map or light, Shan was feeling a bit lost, but, every once in a while, he thought he saw a goblin fall away, downed by, what he could tell in the starlight, an arrow shaft. He had no idea if it was just a trick of the light, but he felt his luck shouldn't rely on an ally in the dark. For all he knew, it was a goblin archer with lousy aim.

"Just letting you, know, it'll be a few minutes before my night vision kicks back in," Shan said, beginning to pant with the exertion of running. "So, um, just kinda following you for now, Mr. Tannin....Maybe we can hole up in one of the buildings? Or just head out of the ruins or-ack!"

Shan's running commentary ended abruptly as he felt a foot catch on a fallen bit of masonry, one he'd easily dodge in the daylight but was helpless too at night. He fell with a crash, his violin and the music flying from his hand. Shan bit back a scream as he felt his lower leg scream in pain. At the very least, he guessed, that ankle was twisted. The goblins began to react to the loss of music. The ones who seemed dazed and confused by the tune suddenly began to scream in agony, their hands clapped over their ears as they tried in vain to block out the sounds around them. The few that stayed free of the Pain enchantment began to shake away the effects of Fear and Annoyance, turning to their fleeing prey.

Shan grabbed his violin and began playing again, wincing as he rose, activating the Pain and Annoyance enchantments once more. "Sorry, sorry," He said, biting his lower lip as he shifted his weight off the hurt ankle. "I can keep going. Just, um, I'll loop my arm out and try to snag the handle of my bag, alright? We'll probably need your teeth soon, and I'll feel better with my bag on my back...or arm, I guess."

He ran a couple metres in front of the bard to lead the way, and had to check over his shoulder every now and then to make sure that he was still close behind. Tannin was able to run much faster than a human in this form, so he had to pace himself. He led the way through the abandoned streets, trying to find a good hideout or a passage through which they could lose the goblins. Since he wasn’t watching the scene behind him, other than to check on Shan, he hadn’t noticed any arrows taking down some of the goblins.

He had heard Shan’s words this time, but he didn’t respond until after the music stopped. He stopped as quickly as he could and spun around to see what Shan was doing. He noticed a fallen bit of masonry that might have been the cause of his fall, but didn’t bother to move it out of the way for their pursuers.

He placed the bag down so that he could open the straps, so that Shan could slip his arm through much quicker. He spoke after Shan was able to grab his bag. “We need to find a passage that’s too small for them to get through.” He growled, “Can’t get too far with you hurt, though. Do you know any healing spells?” he asked, but then turned to look at the hoard behind them. “Any killing spells?” He didn’t bother continuing to run away. Now, with the bard hurt, they didn’t have any chances of successfully losing them by running. He would be forced to stay and kill every one of those nasty goblins.

“As far as my sister goes, we can’t help her if we’re dead.” He left it at that, and readied himself to fight again. This time, at least, he was prepared. He had noticed weak spots in their armour when he was fighting them before, so he knew how to take them down a lot faster now. As he waited for his response, he licked the wounds that he could reach on his body, growling a little bit to activate his Dark Regeneration spell. After taking a moment to lick his wounds, he turned his attention back to the hoard of goblins that seemed to be much smaller now. His night vision was not as great as one might expect it to be, but he could see lines sticking up from the dead goblins, guessing that they were arrows.

He moved forward a little bit so that he was between the goblins and the bard. He was curious to know who it was shooting the arrows, but that would be a task for later...
