Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The nights were getting colder again. Aether Draka used her shadow jump ability to appear in the back of the hospice. The area had one building that was used for those who were recently injured. In a small walled off area behind the building were many single person tents set up in rows. In each of them was an severely injured person, someone who either had yet to recover from the terrors of the fight or who may in all truth never recover. A few had suffered injuries beyond the physical. Some lost their mind, parts of their souls, and many lost body parts that they could sometimes still feel. Bit by bit, they had been slowly healed. It was slow. Like trying to rebuild the city on the horizon, so badly scarred by hellfire. The problem was that there were not enough resources for all of them. Those healers who basically lived here were prone to depression and they had been forced to take care of people in rounds so they would not exhaust themselves.

Aether Draka peered inside a few tents at sleeping figures. She was still upset about the fall of the city. She no longer felt guilt about it. No, now she wanted revenge on the being who had fooled Lynthaer and taken him from Imythess. She and her guild members had wanted to own, to control the city... but they had been used. Those who were not part of the fighting, those who had not chosen to be in the fighting, they were victims in her mind… She had tried to help them all flee. It had not worked. Her messenger was only one summoned angel. One angel had not been enough for such a large city. She felt better when she saw that they were healing. Slowly, but recovery was something that had always intrigued her.

She stopped outside one of the tents, hesitating. Inside was someone who had not been recovering. His body seemed more or less whole, more so then when she had brought him here… was it years ago now? How long had really passed? She was not sure. A sound and the flicker of a light caught her attention. She ducked inside the tent. She didn’t want to explain to the healers or the guards who she was and why she was there. In the dark tent she saw he was still the same. More blankets at the moment to fight off the chill. She walked over to where he lay and knelt. She put her hands about eight inches above him and closed her eyes. AD sensed the magic they had used on him. They had been keeping him alive still. Was recovery even possible after so long? The brother and sister she had saved that night so long ago had recovered so very fast. They lived on their Aunt and Uncle’s farm in the Dublin Planes now. The boy would be an adult soon. She was going to have to see them after this. No recovery vs. a full recovery. For the children it was just a bad dream. Was he trapped in that bad dream perhaps? Did he not know he slept?

She opened her eyes. Perhaps it was time to give up on this one. She sighed and reached into the pouch at her side. She pulled out a coin pouch that jingled softly as she placed it on the blankets. She could offer food to the others, but magic kept him alive so all she could offer was coin. She placed her hand over on the coin pouch she placed on his resting form. It was sad. She made up her mind then to return only once more. With that decision made Aether Draka moved to leave the tent. She still had to create food and clean water tonight…

((OOC: Just to be clear she has only started to leave, her hand just leaving the coin pouch. Up to you if she leaves and then he wakes up and she meets up with him again after he leaves or if he wakes now-ish with her still there.))

The flames destroyed everything they touched, both building and person, and the war ravaged on. The very ground split open as if it were being pulled apart by some invisible force and red mist and flames spewing forth from the newly formed fissure. From the fissure came creatures of all shapes and sizes, creatures that were twisted and deformed like something out of a nightmare, creatures that roared in celebration of their freedom as they began to attack and destroy all in sight.

It didn't take long for the city to begin to fall. The Taras Guard were well trained yes, but they had never faced an army of demons in their career. Most of their fights had been against humans or humanoid races, never against a whole demonic army. Within moments, the city was licked in flames and the people were running for their lives.

***

"TALIAS!!"

His name coming from her lips in a frenzied scream... it froze his blood with fear. Talias tried to fight past the crowd as he searched for her. She was close, so very close.
And there she was, running towards him with a look of fear imprinted upon her face, her chestnut brown hair flaying as she tried to run away from the demon knight that approached. Time seemed to slow down as the demon raised his cruel blade. Talias stretched his arm to try and grab her, to pull her away from the demons attack. He was so close... so close.. so...

***
Two Years Later...

"KAYLA!"
The name exploded from his lips as he awoke. Talias rose up and looked around fervently for his wife, but the fear that was coursing through him made it difficult to concentrate. He tried to calm down but it was difficult, he was no longer in the burning city... he was in a large tent. Talias tried to get up but when he rose, he found there was no strength at all in his legs. He fell down hard, hitting a table and knocking it over. The commotion was heard and a several people entered the tent, all of them speaking at once.

"He's awake..."
"Two years..."
"What happened?"

Talias looked around at the mass of people who were gazing at him as if he were some animal in a zoo. He tried to get up but it was as if he had no strength at all.

"Quickly, someone get him onto the bed. He'll injure himself..."

Another person had entered the tent and seemed to be trying to take control of the situation. But no, he wouldn't lay down... Talias had to find her... he had to find Kayla. He felt someone's hand upon his shoulder. Talias grabbed the hand and pushed it away.

"Get off me," he shouted, "I have to find her!"

"He's delirious," said the de facto leader, "I need two people to hold him down whilst I administer sedative. Everyone else out. NOW!"

Talias felt two powerful sets of arms pick him up and put him back on the bed. He tried to struggle but it was no use, these people were strong.

"Get off me!" Talias shouted, "KAYLA! KAYLA!"

Then he felt something warm enter his arm before he mercifully passed out.

When he next awoke, he didn't feel fear this time. He tried to get up but still felt his body had no strength.

"Don't try to get up,"

It was the voice of the stranger.
"This may come as a shock but you have been in a coma for two years. We used potions to keep your muscles supple and prevent them from atrophying, but your muscles are weak from non-usage. It will take you a few weeks to get back to normal, plus plenty of work on your part, but you should be fine."

Talias took a moment to process the information. Two years?

"I need to find my wife..." Talias said.
"Yes, I gathered from your struggles this morning," the leader said, "I did a check with the whole camp for someone named Kayla but I'm afraid there's no-one here by that name. I'm sorry..."
"I have to-" Talias spoke but he was interrupted.
"I understand that you want to find her, my wife also went missing in the war and whilst she was gone I was frantic with worry. But you can't find her in your condition, you need to rest. But I can tell you now that she isn't in the camp, not amongst the dead... which means she's somewhere out there."
Talias didn't try to argue for he knew the stranger was right. No, he had to rest. When he was able to walk again, he would find her.

The stranger turned around and began to leave the tent.

"Did you find your wife?" Talias asked him.
The stranger stopped and turned to Talias.
"Yes, I found her eventually. She's safe now..."

Then the stranger left and Talias was alone. He decided to try and sleep some more.

Then he heard someone else come into the tent, drop something upon his bed before turning to go again.

"Don't go..." Talias said, his eyes closed... "Whoever you are... please... talk to me..."

The sound of a voice came to her ears and she paused... He was awake? Aether Draka was worried that the voice had not been his own. It was too close however. Had there been recovery? Was this man a victim of the fighting back then or had he chosen a side? She felt that demons acting like that only feed the fear and chased away those who were able to fight. She had fought on both sides of the War... She felt she knew what choices were available to her.

Some may not ever understand why she sided with the demons in Imythess. She felt she had more freedom with the demons then with the strict rules of the celestials. She had found celestials who were chaotic like herself. They were always getting in trouble like she did... but there was a difference. There had been no questions of their bloodline like there was her own... Just like the demons she was with now could never learn of her celestial blood... but who was this man... why did he wish to speak?

She waited a moment, listening to the people she had herd outside. There wasn't anyone close. In spite of her better judgement, she moved back over to the bed. Curiosity won, as it almost always did. She hoped they would not come too close. "I didn't know you had woken. I am sorry." She said, her voice was soft and low. For some reason she now felt guilty. Was it because she had thought him still not well and was about to give up on him ever recovering? Was that something she should feel guilty for?

Talias smiled at the reply, though it took a lot of effort. The sedative was still coursing through his system and made every task five times more difficult. Even the simple task of smiling was tough for Talias to pull off for it felt as if his muscles asleep. He didn't try to open his eyes and instead lay there. If he didn't move at all, it would have been easy to think he were asleep or even dead.

"There's no need to apologise," he said quietly, "Just please stay... it would be nice to talk to someone."

For deep down inside of himself, Talias was lonely. His wife was missing, as were his friends and family, and he felt so isolated. Right now, he just wanted someone to talk to more than anything.
