| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

On top of a ridge in the Dragon Spines, a bowl of light glowed against the dark snow, pushing back the windy night. The strange sight was caused by a pit dug in the snow with a small campfire built in it. A figure in a furry parka sat with its back to the wall, the hood pulled over almost to its nose. The figure's name was Dali and he was feeling thoroughly sorry for himself. He was cold, hungry, bespelled, depressed, and he was watching the last of his firewood burn. The first two were the result of four days' trek up the side of a mountain alone. He'd had a guide, but they had left when they got too close to the local dragon's lair. And it was the lair Dali was going to. Normally he wouldn't dream of setting foot anywhere near a dragon, much less its lair, but Dali, the worst thief in Imythess, had been sent to steal something. And while he would have normally had told the people trying to hire him to take a hike, this time they had something that he really, really needed... The metal collar was an uncomfortable weight around Dali's neck. He would have reached up and ran a finger under it, but he was wearing mittens and couldn't get to it anyway. ...like his life. Dali would be the first to admit he was a rat and would wiggle out of something like this as soon as he could. But that witch had him this time. Boy, did she have him. "The collar comes off," she’d said, "when you come back with that coin. Until then, it’s not coming off while your head is still attached to your body. You have twenty-eight days. After that…" She'd made a gesture and the collar had tightened like a noose, cutting off his air and crushing his throat. "It’s over. And don’t think,"she'd added, "That you can run off to some wizard and get it popped off. If that collar gets magically tampered with, it will shrink so small a baby's finger wouldn’t fit through it. Get the point?" He'd gotten the point all too clearly. And that took care of the 'bespelled' part. As for the depression...well, the situation was enough to make anyone depressed, but Dali's stemmed from something else. Lenna. Last time he'd been out in this kind of wilderness, it had been just after her death. He hadn't thought about her in ages. He'd been too distracted by what might be coming up behind him as well as what was happening to him to think about anything other than the moment. But he'd had four days of silence and isolation and all those thoughts and memories were coming back with a vengeance. The smell of her hair, her smile, her kisses - he remembered everything and it left him with a physical ache in his heart. When he closed his eyes he saw one of two things: her...or that cursed map the witch had (oh so kindly) burned into his mind. So, it was either eminent doom or painful ghosts that occupied most of his waking hours and all of his sleeping ones. At least he wasn't lost. That was positive. Sorta. |

Black Luster... That was what the sword the Buddy had found at his neck called. Though he did have the need to admit at the time it truly was a beautiful sword, despite his current situation, he could not find it within his capacity for understanding to simply let a blade so percariously close to his jugular pass as little more than an incident. A quick incantation, and the owner of the sword was grounded and unconcious, Buddy was smart enough to learn a good spell... One that electrocuted a weapon. And if that weapon just happens to be made entirely of a conductive black metal, he's going to be sure to take advantage of it and set it crackling with magical energy to save his own skin. The owner of the blade was alive, of course. Just unconcious on the wooden deck of the Pirate's Cove, where Buddy so often spent the majority of his time, where he got into the most trouble and where he had the most fun. His black bobtailed cat, the only other known survivor of Arda he could think of, quickly leapt to his shoulder, hanging loosely upon it as he stood and looked down to the man who wanted him to taste fear before dying... A rather foolish plan, but at least Ogichi didn't have to use his own dagger to fell the man. The blonde rogue looked over to his companion with a slightly devious smile before picking up his fallen bag and placing the black sword into it, watching as the blade disappeared into the seemingly impossible space of the enchanted bag. "Should sell for a pretty few gold, don't ya think?" He asked his comopanion rhetorically with a slight chuckle before he began rummaging through the cut-throat pirate captain's unconcious body, trying to find anything else that might sell well, if not be useful in the long run. Buddy knew how to steal... He knew plenty of other things, sure, but he loved to steal. He was smarter than most, his mind ran quickly and efficiently, and it was only thievery that seemed to catch the attention of this particular man, raised in a fishing village of a now-dead world. He put that past behind him, though... To the best of his abilities, anyway. Zangetsu was all he had left... His family and friends were gone, and he knew few enough people in this world. If it weren't for the cat, he'd be lost to depression. Rummaging through the violent man's pockets, Holly eventually came across a small piece of folded-up paper. Something he quickly unfolded, seeing a picture, a map with a name sprawled across it "Draonspine Mountains." The words read so clearly, a particular mountain highlighted with red ink, more specifically a certain point of it with a line leading from the mark to the bottom, "Great Treasure, Great Danger, Great Cost, Great Worth." A rather foreboding message, or so Buddy though, but it was often the greatest treasures which were. After coming to this world of Chaon, he had made sure to read many books in Cascadia, as many as he could to try and learn of this place, to try and figure out just what he was in for, what places had what, where to avoid and where to go. So he knew where the Dragonspine Mountains were, he had memorized a map of Imythess a mere week after arriving and knew it would prove to be a great challenge, worthy enough to test his intellect and problem-solving capabilities! Excited, he stood to his feet, Zangetsu barely hanging out with a surprised expression on his furry little face as Buddy exclaimed, "We're going on an adventure, Zan! To Dragonspine Mountains!" He paused a moment, almost beginning to walk away before looking back to the unconcious captain, "Thanks, Captain... I'll be sure to put these to good use!" He laughed before turning and leaving for the next departing ship to the mainland. Weeks passed after this, and until he had reached the Dragonspine Mountains, Buddy hadn't doubted his choice once... No, that came when he was about halfway up the mountain that had been highlighted on the unconventional map, having spent a full three days just trying to match the picture up with the right mountain setting. Though he had been smart enough to steal a heavy furred cloak some time ago, he found it did little to change the fact he was trudging through snow to climb a mountain in a place called Dragonspine where he was going after a supposedly rare treasure that he wasn't sure even existed and didn't even know exactly what it was. He was going on practically no information, and he was probably going to end up having to talk his way out of getting eaten by a dragon... Or at the very least, try to run very very fast when he came face-to-face with on. Luckily, his journey kept him from meeting any dragons, though he could see them flying about high in the sky... It was a sight he took in every now and again so he could remember the dangers and beautiful sight they simultaneously presented. "Great Danger." He huffed, looking down to his bag where his faithful curry friend hid in and away from the snow with ease. He gave a shrug and continued forward for several minutes before stopping, seeing the soft orange glow of a fire, a familiar and welcoming sight, though it was probably somebody else after this supposed treasure... Oh, well... He could use their help to begin with and make off with the treasure later! He rushed with enthusiasm towards the fire, calling forth, "Hey! Are you friendly!?" Yet not slowing his gait for even a moment. He might have been going a bit mad from the cold affecting his brain. |

"Hey! Are you friendly!?" The voice echoed over the snow, jarring Dali out of his thoughts. Was he hearing things? Possibly. Just Possibly. He was not, by nature, one who took isolation well and it wouldn't be the first time he heard things when he was alone. But...the voice didn't sound familiar. Generally, the voices in his head were familiar, if not readily identifiable. He got to his feet and drew his dagger. It wasn't a very good weapon, but it was all he had. He kept close to his body to keep the firelight from glinting off the blade. If he had to use it, it would be by surprise and he wouldn't have time for a second attack. It was that sort of weapon and he was that sort of fighter. He peered out into the darkness, aware he was silhouetted by the light behind him and not liking that one bit. He finally spotted a cloaked figure making its way through the snow. It was moving at high speed, or at least high speed for thick snow, and it was coming right at him. Dali moved to the far side of the fire as the figure drew nearer and waited until he could see the top of the hood from where he was standing. "S-s-stop!" he said, as imposingly as possible. "Who are you?" |

It was strange indeed, the cold winds that blew down the mountain was chilly and created a thin layer of frost on her clothes as she stopped to take cover behind a rock, but the girl didn't really feel the cold. She could tell the temperature but it didn’t really bother her, the cold fire in her own heart was the only thing she could feel, it was strange, as if she wasn't really alive but just a shadow walking on the earth. However that was not the problem for the moment and the girl buried the thoughts about life and not life and focused on slowing her breathing to make sure the big creature that passed over the forest on gigantic wings, carried by the cold wind, didn't notice her presence. The dragon was indeed gigantic and the girl that followed it was indeed lucky that it hadn't notice her company yet, or maybe it had but ignored her and kept on flying. She wasn't sure why she followed it, it was like the big lizard had some kind of connection to her, perhaps to the old her which she couldn't remember and the thought of that made the girl follow, her legs tired and her eyes aching from looking up at the white sky. In fact, Sanjuu had come across the dragon by accident when she was walking over the Dragonspine mountains, only a fool entered these gigantic rock but a weak voice in her head told her she had to go there and as she had spotted the dragon about two hours ago, after wandering around aimlessly for about five days, she had know what she need to do. The chase was going harder now that the beast was flying up the mountainside, Sanjuu's eyes hurt from the snow and white light and she pulled her cloak tighter around her body to protect her from the winds. An especially violent wind made the young woman lose her footing and she suddenly tumbled down the mountain and fell down the edge of a cliff. The fall was not very high but about a one and a half meters and the snow caught her as she landed, making her fall soft. She muttered and crawled out of the snow only to realize she had fallen down in someone's camp. A fire was burning and a man with a dagger in his hand stood with his dagger raised but the point of the weapon was pointed towards something else then the sky-fallen woman who brushed snow out of her hair and collected herself enough to stand. The fall had shaken her quite a bit but she pulled herself together and smiled at the man who seemed very miserable and confused. "Sorry I'm afraid I couldn't find a doorbell so I just entered without knocking, my bad lad. Can I join by the fire, thanks!" the woman sat down and held out her hands to warm her fingers a little, making sure to keep the distance so that she wouldn't burn herself. By some reason, she hated fire and (as far as she could remember) always had. |

Even through the snow fallen mountain air, Buddy could tell exactly what the man was doing, drawing his dagger, but he was too concerned with the fire to bother with the man. Besides, he knew his own speed and knew that he had more than enough to dodge the blade if this man, whose voice alone sounded rather shaky, even through the wind of the mountain at such a height, most likely wasn't any sort of hostile man. More likely somebody who had gotten separated from their group or another treasure hunter like Buddy. After all, there were sure to be more than just one of the maps talking about the treasure, so it would make sense that there would probably be a few people coming to the mountain... Whether or not they actually managed to survive the dragons on the other hand... Well, things were going to be a lot better for Buddy, he wasn't about to let himself be eaten by an over sized flying lizard the could swallow him hole without a second thought. The blonde thief came crashing in front of the fire, seeming to otherwise ignore the man who had the knife pointed towards him, he just didn't care that much, putting his hands out, envying Zan just a bit, getting to be in the comparatively warmer climate-controlled bag of Never Ending Space. A lucky and rare find on Buddy's part, he had stolen it off of a wizard... Or perhaps the wizard discreetly gave it to the rogue since there hasn't been any news about its missing since. Generally, and this was from the rogue's personal experience, wizards were rather good at tracking people down and getting their things back... The thief shuddered at the memory of being a rat for a month. Luckily he got better. He paused a bit, though having only been at the fire for a moment, he would turn his attention to the girl at the campfire, figuring her for being the original companion of the man who had drawn the dagger to point at the thief. He would look between the two for a moment, even if the man were to still keep the tip of his blade pointed to the thief, he wouldn't be shaken by mere man when he was testing the very patience and observational skills of possibly very secretive and anti-social dragons. And at the moment he was juggling thoughts, one of which being that he hoped no dragons happened to be telepathic as well, otherwise the over sized flying lizard thought might not go over too well. "So, hi! Sorry for just barging in on your fire like this, but its kind of on the way to where I'm headed... Which seems to be very high up..." He panted, even though he wore the thick furred and stolen cloak, it didn't really stop him from being completely cold, it just made it more tolerable, "Can I ask, just which way are you two going? Up or down?" |

The girl crashing into his camp had nearly given Dali heart failure. The cheerful blonde man crashing into the camp had raised his pulse another notch. But the cold drained the energy it took to maintain fear. It sapped everything after a while. He sighed and put the dagger away. It probably wouldn't do him any good anyway. "Join me b-b-by the f-f-fire," he said in ironic tone. "I d-d-don't mind." Actually, he was a little relieved to see other people, even if their motives and identities were unknown. Dali was not by nature one who took isolation very well. Besides, they hadn't tried to kill him yet and didn't look too likely too. They both looked rather cold. He sighed again and dropped back down to a sitting position. "And I am headed up." He put his head in his mittens. "To a dragon's l-lair." Mentally adding, "To do something stupid. Because I don't have a choice." He looked back up at his guests - if that was the term for them. The woman looked like a fighter, the man like...well, frankly, a thief. Dali had known a lot a thieves and this man had the attitude of good thief. There was a swagger in his very personality. Or he was possibly a pirate. They had nearly the same kind of swagger. But they were miles from the sea. Or, for that matter, even a large body of water. (The snow didn't count.) A thief would have a reason to be up here. A pirate wouldn't. The woman looked lost and a little confused. But there was an air of competence about her - or maybe just a lack of panic that someone who couldn't take care of herself would have. There was a kind of calm about her that didn't seem natural. Or that's what it seemed like to him. Neither of them looked used to this weather. Or even really equipped for it. "Who are you?" he asked. "And what are you d-d-doing here?" |
