Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The crowd had grown to quite a size, a moving, jostling sea of open minds, ready for illumination. They had gathered an hour hence, drifting over in ones and twos, all now enraptured in the speaker's words. He stood upon a makeshift podium in front of the church, an island of hope in a sea of despair. His presence washed over the crowd, seemingly lending them strength and joy, releasing their fears if just for a moment. It was as if he knew the secret corners and aspects of the mass soul and knows how to reach and touch them. His piercing blue eyes swept in the crowd as he orated, seeming to stare into the soul of each and every person present.

"The Demon has many forms." Azrael declared, righteous fervor fueling his speech, "You must know them all. You will see the Demon, you will know the Demon. But in your hearts, you will feel the Demon. It is the Gods that inspire in you your ability to feel his corrupting aura. Trust no-one. Trust not yourself. The mind is easily corrupted. If you feel the pull of the corrupt, the urge to kill or to hurt or to destroy, then despair! For the Demon is in you. Know this as surely as the sun rises. But know that there is hope. It is better to die a man than live a horror! If you feel the urge, the pull, the fingers in your soul, act! Destroy yourself in fire and you shall be saved! This I promise; for the zealous martyr is praised for his valor! The Demon abhorred, and rightly so. Watch thy neighbor, for there are those among you who lack the strength. At the first sign of the abyssal, purge it in Holy fire!

You must face this horrific truth without flinching from your duty. The enemies of Good are not mortal. Mercy, compassion, tolerance; these things they know not. Dedicate your lives, given by the Gods, to their destruction. Regard function as your only duty: you live only to bring cleansing fire. Take up your rod and staff, your torch and hammer, and join us! Join this crusade to rid our glorious world of this filth, this vermin!"

The crowd roared in assent and many surged forward, eager to pledge their lives to the mysterious Inquisitor and his cause. Azrael smiled and bowed his head, offering a quick prayer to whichever God gave humanity such a stupid, sheep-like instinct to follow that which made it feel good. The two paladins beside the podium were busily scratching down names, those desperate men and women with nothing left to loose pressing themselves forward to pledge their lives. Little knew how short and filled with pain they would soon become.

The tiefling had just returned to Taras from her trip to the monestary of the Burning Fist. She had completed the training she had required there and had taken her leave for now. She had of course not told Kaess where she was going or what she was going to do. She never did. He would see her again when she felt it was time for her begin her next stage of the training.

When she came into the ruined city she saw a large crowd growing. Curious as to what it was she followed at a distance and stayed at the back of the crowd. When she saw the fool on the stage she rolled her eyes. Paladins. And even more zelous ones than she was use to seeing. She scoffed at the bit about them talking about the demon inside and that they should purge themselves in fire. These people might be eating up those words right now...until they got accused of being a 'demon' and needed to be cleansed in fire.

She shook her head as the crowd followed the paladins for their holy crusade. "I will never understand human stupidity," she said to herself. "Why do they follow a few honeyed words when it will only lead them to a painful death?"

Just one mind set against that of the masses and all his hard work would be undone; this Azrael knew. As he scanned the sea of lost souls the Inquisitor's eyes snagged on that one mind. Written across her face as plain as day, one woman who did not believe. It would not do. Leaping suddenly from the podium, Azrael roughly parted the crowd before him, cutting a line through to his target. Unmistakable with her red hair, he had found her in seconds, shoving the last few peasants out of his way as he moved to introduce himself. The woman was, quite simply, stunning. Slim and toned, she had a warrior's body, standing just a span shorter than himself. Hers was a mind he would enjoy indoctrinating.

Bowing low, he said "Allow me to introduce myself, I am Azrael, Inquisitor of The Holy Fire. Pray tell, what is it that troubles you so? I could see your distress from the stage."

He held out a hand, fully expecting her to pay her respects in return, a charming smile about his lips. By now another of his paladins had roughed his way through the crowd, eager to prove that he would not let his lord alone to defend himself, should the need arise. He stood a respectful distance away, jostled by the crowd and trying desperately not to ogle the red-head that had so obviously captivated his lord.

Shalia narrowed her eyes as she saw the paladin coming towards her. As he neared her skin being to itch. Paladins always had that aura about them...and it did not really agree with her demon blood.

"You must be mistaken," she replied tersely. "I am not distressed at all. I am simply amazed at how stupid humans are. All it takes is a few words from a silver tongued paladin and they will follow like cattle led to the slaughter."

She did not accept him hand. Instead she looked down at it and scoffed before returning a fierce glare at the paladin. She hated paladins. Not only did their aura physically bother her, but their additude just made it worse. They were so self rightious and always were seeking to fullfil their 'holy cause.' And that normally was a bad thing for her, as she often fell under the evil things that needed to be cleansed.

"I am not some doe eyed lass that will charmed by a few well spoken words," she hissed. "I know your kind well. You speak about justice and fighting evil. But you ignore the darkness in your own hearts. What makes you think that you are without fault? That you can lead these people to what will most likely be a firey death at your own hand? All it will take is you or one of your moronic followers to claiming one of these people to be a 'demon' and you will condem them to death. Lets see them still follow you after you accuse them of a crime you too are guilty of."

She knew that this most likely would not end well. But she did not fear a few paladins. She had power enough to handle them. And she could easily slip away once she was done with the battle and no one would even remember her. She also wondered how long it would take the fools to realize they were speak with a 'demon.'

Azrael smiled politely as the woman scathingly declined his hand. Charm would clearly not work with this one, he mused, rallying his finest argument in preparation.

"Of course you are right," He said smoothly, hoping to wrong-foot her, "There is no such thing as innocence any more. Even those who plea innocent of witchcraft and sorcery in my courts are guilty of wasting my time. We are all guilty of something, however it falls to me to hand out retribution accordingly. I must act as Justice always, and cannot be seen to punish myself, for who else could hope to take my place? Who among us has the strength of heart to hunt down the creatures that prey upon humanity? Do you not see that we are the Light? Come, join us, one as gifted as you would do well among our ranks."

At this a few more paladins sifted from the crowd, stepping forward to stand shoulder to shoulder behind their lord, half a dozen strong. Each wore a white tabbard over leather armor, similar to that of their lord. They all carried a hammer, again similar to their lord, but smaller, more easily suited to mass combat. With faces like stone, they formed an imposing wall, ready to react at the slightest sign of trouble. Even as the crowd dispersed around them they stood, immobile.

Together they conveyed one message; the Inquisitors' offer was not to be refused.

The more he spoke, the angrier she got. This man really believed what he was saying. And he thought he was better than others because of some holy cause.

"And who put you in charge?" she asked. "What gives you the right to lord over others, judging them and deciding who gets your 'retribution'?"

She glance to the paladins now flanking him. It was clear that they indended for her to come to the 'light' or die. Well she was never going to join them. And there was no chance she was just going to let them slay her. She had struggled too long and too hard to gain her freedom just to have some idiot smite her down.

"I know what you are thinking," she hissed. "Either I join your 'holy cause' or I will be deemed a demon and cleansed by your holy fire. Well I have a little something to say about that."

Slowly she lifted one hand, thumb pressed against her forefingers. It was time for her to extend her own 'retribution' upon these fools. She snapped her fingers as she spoke a single arcane word. The instant she snapped, the man to Azrael's right burst into flames. It was somewhat ironic that those who declared people should be cleansed by fire, would die by it.

The tiefling did not yet draw her weapons. Best give the fools a chance. "That was a warning," she said. "Leave now, or I shall burn you all where you stand."
