Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Malaure smiled at the two. “Now that is the spirit. Let see we grab some food and drinks from a vendor stuff it all in a bag and off we go towards the beaches. We will want to get away from the docks for a bit as I really don’t trust the waters near the docks or even along the boardwalk that much. Now lets see…” She tapped her chin a little thinking, “Ah yes there is that cover over the hill from the boardwalk that should be on the way. Well come on off we go.”

Malaure then hurried off towards the boardwalk to start with. Her pace was quick, but with a little effort she was sure the other two could keep up. As soon as they arrived she looked around until she found a small sandwich shop where she ordered a simple ham sandwich. From another stand she got a bottle of ale and a bit of cheese to go on the side. She waited a few moments for the others to gather some food before moving off again.

As soon as they were ready she lead them off at her brisk pace again. She would lead them over a nearby hill to the cove she had mentioned. The cove was fairly small and was mostly surrounded by small ridges. It wasn’t a very large place, but it also meant there weren’t many boats willing to try and come in here. The sun was still warm and water was much cleaner than the waters near the dock. It was easy to tell this as the blues were brighter and the water was less murky and filled with the derbies that often filled the waters of a dock.

Malaure dropped her stuff off when they got to a good spot on the small beach. Sure turned to her companions, “So what do you think. Not the fanciest of spots, but enough to have fun in.” She was all grins clearly getting herself ready to enjoy the day.

Caz practically trotted after Malaure and Firaliel, her robes flapping in the wind after her. Her dog maintained a fast trot next to them. When they arrived at the boardwalk Caz went straight to work buying her own food. First, two sandwiches, which she shoved into a bag of her own -- she knew she'd need it. Then drinks: Caz couldn't decide which colorful drink to get, so she settled on a small glass jug of coconut milk and two others with blue and orange colorings, respectively. Finally, she picked up a kebob from one of the stands furthest down. She munched on the bits of grilled meat as she rejoined with the others. Vika carried the bag of goodies in her mouth.

The cove that Malaure took them to was stunning. The water looked even bluer here as it crashed against the high stone surrounding them on most sides. "Wow! Malaure, this is amazing!" Caz rushed forward to set up a spot on the beach to place her stuff. She found a sunny spot near the waterline, told her dog to put down her bag of food, and near-instantly tore off her robes. Free of the loose-fitting clothing, Cazmia appeared even more petite than before. With just her underclothing on, her clear, pale skin was even more obvious.

She folded up her robes and placed them on the ground neatly next to her bag. She smiled at her sailing buddies and giggled a bit. "Let's hope I get a sun tan today, eh? My mom always said I had the skin of an angel. Silly." The girl quickly disappeared, searching for a stick to throw for her dog.

Firaliel went with the other two to the shore, following Malaure, stopping at the vendors. She grabbed herself a sandwich and an apple to eat on the way. She wasn't one to be terribly excited by these shops. She was finished not much after Malaure, but Caz took a bit more time figuring out what to buy. She was clearly excited by the prospect of looking at and buying stuff at these shops. It seemed to Fira that Caz got excited about everything. In Fira's opinion, that girl needed to learn some restraint.

After they all were finished buying their food, they went to the shore. Malaure showed them a nice looking cove. It was secluded enough from the city, and she had to admit that the place was quite beautiful. She set her food near the water. Like Caz, she took off her clothes but left on her underclothing before going into the water. Her clothes were such that she could have left them on, but she decided not to. After that, she walked into the water to where it was about waist deep for her and waited for the others to get in. The water here seemed a bit warmer than the streams near her home, so she was comfortable with it. However, she wasn't used to the salt in the water.

Caz commented about her own pale skin. Fira could tell that she had more of a tan than that girl, enough so to be obvious. Fira spent a lot of time outdoors, so she wasn't terribly surprised. She also noticed now just how slim Caz was. Her robes had hidden that somewhat, even though it had been obvious that Fira was several inches taller.

Malaure also took her clothes off to get in the water. She wasn’t very neat about it simply tossing them into a pile once she had them off her body. Soon her golden scales were sparkling in the sun as she entered the water with a little shiver of enjoyment. The cool water pooling around her was just so relaxing and the salt water with a bit of sand would be excellent for scrubbing her scales latter. Soon she was up to her waist in the water.

She ended up laughing at Caz’s comment about her skin. “Girl I would worry more about burning up into a cinder with beautiful skin like that. Though honestly I don’t see why more people don’t just grow scales. So much simpler and offers better protection too.”

She laughed a little bit before continuing.

“Still as long as you don’t burn I suppose your skin will get a bit darker. We got weeks or months on a ship ahead of us that should tan you up a bit more too. Now if you excuse me it is time for me to take a dive or two.”

Malaure actually didn’t dive under the water. She meant dive quite differently that most would think as she took into the air with her wings scattering the other two with water. When she reached a pretty good height she then turned into a dive; her form disappearing into the deeper water of the cove. She loved doing this as she could climb to feel the heat of the sun and then enter the cool water. It certainly was going to be a magnificent day.

Surfacing from her first dive she glanced at the other two briefly as she contemplated soaring up for another dive.

Cazmia lifted her tiny arm a bit so she could see it better; her expression of concern was slightly exaggerated. "You really think so? I've been traveling a lot lately and it doesn't seem to burn. Or... or turn at all, I guess." She giggled at Malaure's trailing comment, though. "People can't just grow scales! Unless they're some sort of shapeshifter, I suppose."

As Fira remained silent, Malaure excused herself to take a dive. Erin quite quickly knew what she was talking about, having traveled with a winged person extensively before this, but nevertheless she looked around for a good vantage point from which she could join the fun. To her disappointment, the cliffs around the cove were a little too sheer and rocky -- not to mention slippery -- to attempt a climb. She settled with watching the half-dragon's escapades from the sidelines.

Caz enjoyed the rest of the day thoroughly. She played with her dog, chatted with her two new crewmembers, and ate all of her food. Soon, they would finally start their adventure.

Malaure did indeed go diving, but not in the usual sense of the word. He flew up with his dragon wings and then dropped near the water in such a way that the water sprayed up and got Fira and Caz. Fira didn't mind getting wet. She was in the water after all, so that was pretty much a given.

Fira swam across the cove and climbed out of the water onto some rocks near the entrance. The rocks were somewhat slippery, but not enough to keep her from being able to climb them. She climbed up several feet above the water, where she sat and relaxed for a couple of minutes. She then stood up and dove off the rocks and back into the water. She realized that she hadn't been swimming in a while and had forgotten how much she enjoyed it. She stayed under the water for a bit, swimming toward the shore. She soon broke the surface, where she continued to head for shore. It didn't take her long to make it. It was clear that she was comfortable in the water.

She swam some more around the cove. On one occasion, she splashed Caz from behind. She spent the day swimming around, talking with the other two, and otherwise relaxing and enjoying herself. She was starting to get through her usual barriers, but she remained somewhat reserved. She simply did not know the two of them well enough yet.

Malaure enjoyed the rest of the day. Swimming and diving in the waters of the cove was horribly fun and she loved playing around with these two new people. She never had a problem with being herself and she really didn’t care what people thought of her for the most part.

After drying in the late day sun she finished off the last of her food. Chatting with her new crew mates was interesting, but it seemed that Fira was going to be a hard nut to break into. The girl, just didn’t talk that much. Then again Caz more than made up for that. Malaure could ask a single question and Caz could go on for ages.

As the night came around she let her companions choose what to do next. Either stay and stare at the stars for the night or continue to party in the city. Even if her companions fell asleep Malaure stayed awake enjoying the night before her new adventure.

Soon it was early morning, just as the sun was rising. She walked up to dock where her ship was registered for. If needed she took a little effort to get her companions to join her this fine morning. The one thing was that there was no ship in the dock yet. A dock worker came up complaining to her saying that her ship better be arriving now or they wouldn’t have time to load it.

She smiled and said, “Oh don’t worry it is already here. Let me just get it out for you guys. Was planning to take a nap on it anyways.”

With a small flourish she pulled out a bottle. It looked like a ship in the bottle that some people made as hobbies and the dock worker looked angry at what he assumed was a joke. She then walked up to the edge of the dock and pulled the cork. With a whooshing sound the ship in the bottle seemed to flow out and into the dock, becoming a small, but full sized ship. Malaure then left the dockworkers and many others just staring as she flew on board and dropped the gang plank onto the dock. She then turned and went into the main cabin to get some sleep. She would probably wake up well after the supplies had been loaded, the crew had arrived, and the ship had left port.

Cazmia definitely enjoyed her day before they would set off. She launched a splash-war against Firaliel, ate food, ended up falling asleep on Malaure, and woke up with a sudden enthusiastic start the next morning. She accompanied her new crewmates to the dock where, quite curiously, there was no actual ship.

The exchange between Malaure and a local dock worker was priceless. Erin's eyes became progressively wider as the tiny little model ship, which had previously sat inside a glass bottle, became larger and larger. Eventually she outright gawked at the final product: a sailboat just large enough to fit their supplies and crew. The runic wizard clambered onto it the moment Malaure dropped the gankplank. Once on the deck, she wobbled briefly -- having not really ever been on a boat before this -- but quickly recovered and made her way to the very tip of the prow. Leaning partway over the edge with her arms resting and folded on the railing, she had a massive grin on her face.

"This is going to be amazing!" She remained there for quite some time, staring at the horizon and letting the wind play through her light blond hair. Cazmia's dog found a shaded place on the deck and rested with her head on folded paws. Loading up the ship took less time than Caz expected, and she went to greet Captain Menorax once she arrived near the end of the process. After a final check, they untied the boat from the dock and set sail.

They had been at sea for only about an hour before Cazmia got bored again. Turning with a great flourish of her robes, she made her way through the deck, grabbing Firaliel by the wrist as she passed her. "Let's go wake up Malaure, Fira! She's missing out!"

Erin practically burst into the cabin, jumped into the bed and shook Malaure by the shoulder. "Mala, Mala! We're at sea! It's so beautiful so come out and see it! ...Wait, where are we headed to first, anyway?"

Firaliel ended up falling asleep not long after Caz. She found a decent place to lay down and was soon asleep. She slept well and awakened early. If the other two were awake early, they likely saw her morning meditation and exercises, which included forms which were fairly similar to Tai Chi. After she finished, she sat down and waited for the other two to get up.

She didn't have to wait for long, however. Caz and Malaure soon woke up, and she followed Malaure to the dock. To her surprise, there was not a ship there. She wondered whether this had all been a prank. Either a prank or magic, she guessed. Malaure still seemed completely serious, however, making the prank possibility less likely. What is this guy up to?

Her thoughts were somewhat along the lines of those of the dock workers, who wondered what Malaure was up to. However, she wasn't angry, and her face didn't show her feelings. She saw what looked like an art piece, not a ship that could be sailed.

She was surprised to see the ship 'flow' out of the bottle and become a full sized ship. Despite her typical lack of expression, the surprise was visible on her face. So there was magic involved. Fira followed Malaure and Caz onto the ship. She found a place to stand near the middle of the ship, where she stood while it was being loaded. Once the ship got under way, she moved near the prow, standing a few feet behind Caz, looking out into the open ocean.

Firaliel had never gone sailing before. She wasn't used to the rocking of the ship, but her agility and training worked to her advantage. She had little trouble getting used to the sea. Within a day, her walk would look like that of an experienced sailor.

Without warning, she found herself being dragged by Caz (despite being able to easily break the grasp), who took her to to Malaure's cabin and proceeded to wake Mala up. She didn't say anything right away, allowing Caz to do the talking.

Malaure was in the middle of a particularly good dream, when suddenly she felt herself bounce and the start to be shaken. She opened her bleary eyes to see Caz was the one responsible for shaking her awake. She grimaced a little bit trying to collect her blurry thoughts as her brain caught up with her waking body. During all this Caz seemed be talking about things and asking questions. She noted that Fira was here too, though she didn’t quite know why as Fira remained silent for the moment. Maybe Caz had dragged her in. She didn’t fully get what Caz said, but she got the basic idea she was asking about where they were headed.

Sitting up removing any limbs Caz had on top of her, if necessary. She yawned once before answering, “Calm down a little we have at least a few days before we get anywhere important. You could have let me sleep a bit more too. A girl needs her beauty rest or at least hold back the questions until I am fully awake next time.”

She sighed shaking the last of her immediate drowsiness from herself. “Anyways you said something like where and headed so I am assuming you are asking about our destination. I suppose it can’t hurt to tell you. We are headed to a small island about two days away. We are going to find the other half of a map there and then well we shall see where we end up from there.

Anyways I suppose I won’t be getting much more rest for at least a bit, so I suppose I can come out and see how things are going with the ship.”

She got herself up and unruffled her clothes. Soon she was ready and stepped outside on the decks. It seemed their chosen captain was doing a good enough job so far with the ship. She noted they weren’t that far from shore yet. This almost made her want to go back inside again, but she had to wait until she could find something to distract Caz from her. I was her plan to then go back and sleep soundly for several more hours.

Cazmia let the draconic woman remove her hand from her. The mage's previously ecstatic expression leveled off when Malaure reminded her how far they were from any sort of adventure-worthy destination. "I'm sorry," she said in a low voice, her hands dropping to her sides.

Malaure's answer to her question did lift her spirits a bit, though. Piecing together a map did seem interesting. There could be treasure, perhaps -- or monsters to defeat, or maidens to save. There was the issue of the atoll that Caz was tasked to find, but she would keep an eye out for any particularly circular-looking islands as they sailed. Still, she wondered whether they would even come across her destination: the ocean was so big and the atoll so tiny. If her job was approaching its deadline, she might need to use magic to find it on her own.

Lacking in anything better to do, Erin followed Malaure out of the cabin and back onto the deck of the ship. While at first she plagued the half-dragon with questions related to the workings of the vessel, but eventually she grew bored and returned to the spot where her dog was still sleeping.

This was going to be a long, long, uneventful haul.

Firaliel followed the other two out to the deck. While Caz was excited, as was typical for her, Malaure appeared annoyed at being woken up. Firaliel listened to Caz' questions at first, but before long she walked away, toward the back of the ship, where she watched the shoreline recede.

There wasn't a lot to do during the voyage besides look out across the waves. Firaliel decided to pass the time by going through one of her exercise routines, fairly similar to what she did in the morning, but somewhat faster. It was a martial art form, but to someone who didn't know, it might look like a kind of dance.

She was aware that this might get Caz' attention, but she didn't expect Caz to remain interested in her art for long. That girl seemed incapable of focusing on anything for more than a few minutes. However, she had managed to become a decent mage, which meant she had to have at least some ability to concentrate.

After getting some sleep and waking up late in the day Malaure felt much better and was better able to enjoy her self on the ship. She first apologized to Caz for being a bit cross, but she just wasn’t always the most pleasant of people after waking up. Still the rest of the day was enjoyable watching the ocean stretch further and further out in front of them and the land slowly becoming smaller on the horizon.

Over the next few days nothing much of importance happened and Malaure found her self exceedingly board open to doing just about anything to entertain herself a bit. She did learn a bit about running a ship from captain Menorax and her crew, but they were often too busy to teach her too much.

The food wasn’t bad either and at least it was a fairly short trip being only a few days. Soon there were calls being shouted on the third day out as they started approaching their first destination.

On hearing this Malaure went out to the bow of the ship and looked at the island. It looked to be rocky with trees and shrubs covering most of it’s surface. The ship seemed to be heading for a small cove with a small creek running through it.

As soon as her two companions / shore party members showed up with her she would say, “Well there is our first destination. Soon we will have a full map and we can move on from here. Though there might be some trouble on this island. Not sure why, but I was looking at the map and notice there is a picture of a monkey or something on fire next to the islands picture. Could just be some doodle, but best to be prepared.

You know for some reason dealing fire monkeys sounds really fun. I have never run into such a thing before so it should be interesting. So both of you ready to get adventuring?”

She had a gleeful grin on her face as the ship pulled into the cove and anchored it’s self.

Ooc: sorry for the delay.

Cazmia spent the ensuing voyage in almost crippling boredom. For the first couple days she was her usual self, occupying the hours by playing with her dog or watching the ocean intently for signs of their destination. Nothing. Eventually the wizard girl's enthusiasm ran out and she settled into a sort of lethargy. She spent almost all of the day sleeping, and when she was awake she was clearly in a stupor, drifting around deck without purpose and clearly in a mild state of depression. All of her hopes about this being an adventure had left her thoughts, and she treated this voyage with the clinical eye of someone just doing their job.

When the crew pointed out excitedly that they had reached their first destination, Caz was hunched over the railing of the ship, her arms folded and her head resting on them. She let the wind dishevel her white-blonde hair, eyes half-closed and uncaring. Only the sight of the cove seemed to pull her out of this state. She patted her dog Vika, waking up the beast so they could exit the vessel. The wizard slung her few possessions over her shoulder, expecting them to camp on solid ground tonight. Cazmia still wasn't bouncing around with her usual enthusiasm, but she at least acted normal.

The wizard girl listened as Malaure explained how a monkey on fire was drawn by this particular destination, implying that they would actually have to fight these creatures here. Caz lifted an eyebrow at this strange hazard, having never heard of such animals before. "Fire... monkeys?" she answered uncomprehendingly, one of the few times she'd spoken since her energy ran out.

As they continued further into the wooded, rocky cove, Caz stopped when something in the distant ocean caught her eye. It was just a little glint, maybe tropical trees far off, maybe a tiny island or atoll.

...An atoll!

Cazmia's entire face suddenly lit up. That was exactly what she was looking for: the Mage Academy's job for her! The tomb of the ice demon was said to be in a remote atoll a few days' journey out from the coastline. She almost opened her mouth to demand they sail in that direction, but she realized how close she really was. The initial problem with Caz's transportation was that she couldn't just fly herself there, since the atoll's location was so vaguely known. But now that she had ridden on a ship for the vast majority of the journey, she could easily fly the rest of the way. Not only would she complete her job, but she wouldn't have to take the tedious ship ride all the way back.

"Look! Over there!" Caz chirped excitedly, pulling out her runic quarterstaff from the strap on her back. "That's the atoll I've been looking for!" Before she began, the wizard clambered over to Malaure and Firaliel and gave them big hugs. "You guys did a wonderful job getting me so close! You definitely deserve the Academy's funding." She turned to look out at the ocean. "Unfortunately, I can't just stick with you guys and keep adventuring now that I've found it. It's a very important artifact that the Academy wanted as quickly as possible." As she pulled away from the hugs, she gave both their hands a squeeze before taking several steps back. Magical essence burst from her body, rising like heat around her, as she began casting the spell she needed. "I think you guys will be just fine with the fire monkeys without my help. I wish you both the best of luck, and happy hunting!"

The few clouds in the sky above them swirled and roiled as a massive rune appeared in the sky. Caz lifted her staff, channeling the magical energy radiating from her body into the rune. It glowed brightly for a few seconds before a humongous creature burst from it, releasing an avian scream. The roc Caz had summoned, a giant bird of prey large enough for a person to ride, circled in the air a few times before it found a suitable place to land on the cove's shore. Caz tipped her wizard's hat to the both of them and practically skipped over to the giant bird, then climbed onto its back via a wing. It took off effortlessly while she gripped its feathers tightly, sending gusts of wind over the water as it flew low toward the distant atoll.

Firaliel didn't mind the long voyage. She spent much of her time standing near the railing watching the sea or doing some kind of exercise related to her art. She wasn't approached about her art except for by one of the sailors who seemed to like to ask her random questions (basically hitting on her). She answered most of the questions except for those relating to her life before she'd come to the place she considered home, a part of her history that she did not reveal except to those who earned her trust, which so far only included people from her home. However, she really didn't pay him a lot of attention.

Fira listened to Malaure as he explained that they might be dealing with fire monkeys, among other threats, on the island. Fira was interested in seeing what new experiences this island would bring. She was certain that she would learn some things from this. She replied, "I'm interested in seeing what we meet here. I'm ready for this as soon as we reach the shore."

Not long after Malaure talked to them, Caz announced that she'd found the atoll she'd been looking for, seeming to instantly regain her usual enthusiasm. She found herself a victim of one of Caz hugs. Not one to like touching people too much, she would have preferred a different means of saying goodbye, but she didn't complain. Before long, Caz was gone, flying away on a magically summoned bird. Firaliel was ready and waiting to see what they would meet on the island.
