Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Malaure sat outside a bar on a small bench. The bar was located in a recently rebuilt part of the Taras Docks. It was noon and she looked out at the ocean. She was very much frustrated with the way the day was going. She had managed to get this cool ship in a bottle thing and then she found this piece of a map that clearly shouted adventure. The problem was she just couldn’t find others to join her.

Oh she had found a woman who was willing to be captain of the ship and even a few sailors, but most weren’t the type to go exploring. What she really needed were other adventures who would be willing to join her. Sadly very few seemed to have the itch for excitement like she did. There was also the factor that she didn’t have nearly enough money to even start paying these people. She was sure once she found the treasure she could pay them, but who knew when that would be and few people would man a boat without being a paid.

Throwing up her hands she sighed. She was so frustrated she just spoke out loud to herself getting her a few looks. “Geez I guess all I need to do is find some new friends that like adventures or want to explore the sea and islands and stuff. Then find a financial backer who can actually pay the crew….. sigh they are going to want a bunch of the treasure too for backing me. Ugghh why does it have to be so complicated to start something that is going to be so fun….”

She noticed some of the other people looking and blushed a bit falling silently back into her thoughts. Probably due to her tight pants and blouse she got a couple guys trying to console her. Her clothes were more for comfort and ease of movement, but guys misunderstood too often with her around. She quickly shooed the annoyances away, just not in the mood to flirt with idiots right now.

She was used to guys hitting on her as she was attractive and often used that to her advantage with men. Still she wasn’t in the mood. At least there wasn’t too many coming up to her, as most of these people were humans and not as attracted to half dragon’s like herself. Mumbling to herself, “If only someone useful would talk to me I would feel like punching the next guy’s face so much.”

Every time Erin Cazmia saw the ocean, she felt that same awe-inspiring excitement as when she saw it for the very first time. Oftentimes she'd just stare at it, completely entranced by the roiling waves and how it just went on forever. Her dog Vika was exhausted, laying with her head on her crossed paws under the table at which Cazmia sat. The girl pulled a strand of meat from the cooked beef she was eating, bending in her chair to offer it to the dog, but it didn't even look interested. Frowning, Erin popped the scrap into her own mouth and chewed with gusto.

Having turned her chair to face the ocean, Cazmia's fragmented thoughts were often interrupted by a chorus of voices around her. People talking about the weather, the construction, going on an adventure... wait, going on an adventure?! Cazmia wheeled around in her chair to face the bar area, her dark blue robe and cloak flapping dramatically. Her bright green eyes went straight for the person she assumed the voice to have belonged to: a gold-scaled draconic woman in nice clothing. "A sea adventure?" Caz squeaked, nearly bouncing out of her seat. The sudden burst of excitement from her owner caused Vika to open her eyes and turn her head to watch the proceedings.

"You have a boat? Can I come? What's your name? I-- ack!" She took a deep breath, trying to slow herself down, before getting up and offering to shake the woman's hand. Cazmia's dog also approached, wagging her tail and walking up to the draconic woman's feet. "I'm Erin Cazmia from the Academy of Magic! I've been waiting here for days for the contracted ship to come, but I think he abandoned me. There's this artifact I really need to find out there and I just thought that maybe I could come help you guys go on adventures and stuff! Please? I could pay for supplies, the Academy gave me funds for the trip!"

Firaliel had reached the partially rebuilt city of Taras only a few days before. The bustling of the city was still new to her, but she was starting to get used to it. She just wasn't used to seeing so many people at once, having spent most of her life deep in the forest learning her fighting style.

Just now, she had decided to head to one of the local taverns to get herself something to eat and drink. As she walked in, she saw a young woman who was talking to herself, apparently exasperated at something. For the time being, she decided to leave her alone.

She walked into the tavern with the effortless grace of a woman who had spent a good portion of her early life training to use her body as an effective weapon. She had chosen her clothing for freedom of movement, without a lot of regard for modesty, as she had been used to doing back at home. She'd never been much concerned with her physical appearance, so she wasn't completely aware that others regarded her as attractive. She was aware that people seemed to like her, but she didn't at all think about any reasons for this, accepting it without needing to figure out why.

She quickly reached the front of the tavern, where she requested a meal. After a few minutes, the bartender arrived with her food. She paid for it and left, finding a table outside to eat. The place she chose was near enough to the woman that she was able to see what was going on. She wasn't able to hear everything, but she got the idea that the woman was looking for people to go sailing. Firaliel decided to see what was going on and to possibly help out.

Once she finished her food, she walked over to where the woman was sitting and sat down nearby. She said, "I hear that you're planning to go sailing. How's that going? Are you looking for people to go with you?"

Malaure was very surprised when a woman near her suddenly got up suddenly and then stumbled towards her. It looked like a young woman, but probably not to many years younger than her self. She seemed to be very excited and started asking if she could join the adventure.

When the hand was held she stood up herself and shook hands with the young lady.“My name is Malaure...” She barely got out these words before the girl was talking again, whom she now knew was called Erin Cazmina. She also noticed a dog seemed to have joined them. It clearly looked like a pet and she wondered if it would be alright to give him a pat. Still she would wait to ask about that latter.

She listened further and it seemed that Cazmina here was the answer to several of her problems. Not only did she have cash to fund Malaure’s adventure, but it seemed she was a magic user too. Always a useful thing on treasure hunts. Still this thing about an artifact seemed iffy.

“Well now, just calm down, I would certainly be happy to help, and grateful for the funds, but before that what sort of artifact are you looking for. I don’t particularly want to be going after things guarded by giant monsters or demons without knowing about it? And do you know where to look for it or this lost for untold ages thing? Need to know this stuff or you can’t buy the right supplies and all that.”

Before her new financial backer could answer it seemed another woman had come up to them. She seemed to have simply overheard that she was going on a sea trip. Malaure decided the best thing was just to include this new person in the conversation and responded to her, “Um well yes I was looking for people to join me on a trip. I was just discussing arrangements with Erin Cazmina here and I am called Malaure? Your name is and what would you bring to the crew?”

"I'm looking for the Frozen Tomb," Caz said, scratching her dog Vika behind the ears while she spoke. "I know, it's weird that there would be a frozen anything out here where it's so warm and tropical, but it's true. All anyone knows is that it's on an atoll out in the middle of the Moonsea. Probably... dangerous, but I'm a pretty good wizard- oh hello there, what's your name?" Caz interrupted herself mid-sentence to turn to the pretty girl, shaking her hand enthusiastically and for a bit too long than was socially acceptable.

"I'm Erin Cazmia from the Academy of Magic, runic wizard and official financial backer of this very official expedition across the ocean! Call me Caz!" Cazmia squeaked to the newcomer. "Well... Malaure here is the one with the boat, but I'm paying for all the supplies. Wait, Malaure, do you have a captain and a crew? That's probably important for sailing." Anyway, the easily distracted woman turned her attention back to Firaliel. "It's going to be really fun, we're going to sail everywhere and have adventures and then hopefully stumble across a remote atoll with a demon's tomb on it and hopefully not get killed. Speaking of which, can you fight? Because that would be really, really convenient."

Aside from the woman who had been at the table for the past while, who introduced herself as Malaure, another woman had arrived only minutes before herself, a woman named Erin Cazmia, who wanted to be referred to as Caz. From what she had heard, Caz had access to sufficient funds to get the voyage going.

"I am known as Firaliel. I can't say that I've been sailing before, but yes, Caz, I am able to fight. I do have a dagger on me, but I've been trained to fight with nothing more than my fists. No, I do not bring any particular missions of my own with me, aside from gaining experience outside of my home."

She considered the two women she was now expecting to sail with. Malaure was quite obviously half-dragon. Firaliel guessed that she was quite capable in physical combat. However, based on what she'd said, Firaliel figured that Caz was most likely a magic user. She also seemed quite excitable. She hoped that this would not get her into any trouble.

Malaure just waited surprised at how fast Caz could talk about things. There was also the fact that she seemed to just jump from topic to topic. Thinking, ‘Well this will certainly be interesting. Though I do wonder how well Caz is going to do in combat. Well guess I better just roll with the cards sent to me. It is amazing enough that we even met.’

Malaure also wasn’t sure about the entire Frozen Tomb thing and demons, but then again what were the chances of them finding the thing randomly. It seemed like there were no clues and the thing certainly wasn’t on any part of her map… well at least not yet, after all she only had half the map. The first half would lead to the next part it seemed.

She listened to Firaliel it sounded like she was fighter like herself. Still not having been on a boat before might be tough for this one. Then again she really didn’t have anyone else volunteering for this adventure, so why not.

After they both had finished she spoke up.

“Well I think both of you are going to make fine companions. Plus three beautiful women are going to make quite an eye catching adventuring group.”

She winked a bit in jest and laughed a little at her own joke.

“And yes Caz I do have a captain I talked to and she said she had a crew she could get together. We can head over to see her now and you can prove we have the money to pay that crew.

After that I suppose we can have some fun until we leave in the morning.”

If there were no objections she led both of them through the streets to the quarter master’s office were they could find their soon to be captain. Of course they could continue to chat a bit while they walked through the crowded streets.

"Splendid!" squeaked the runic mage in Firaliel's general direction. "This will be a new experience for the both of us. Well, I've been on a boat before, of course, but never on this scale." Cazmia adjusted her glasses on her nose, a wide smile on her face. "It's all very exciting."

Malaure told her that they had a captain; Erin nodded quickly to show her understanding. "Good, good. Boats need captains -- that's about all I know on the inner workings of a ship, hehe." She briefly glanced over to the docks as the three of them got up to the quatermaster's office. Vika, Cazmia's dog, sprung to her feet and followed them. "Where's your ship, Malaure? Is it big? I can't wait to see it. We should decorate it with some sort of emblem that represents the three of us, or something. It'll be fun!"

A bit later, Caz waited for the conversation to die down before regarding her new adventuring buddies again. Beyond their names, she didn't really know much about either of them at all; it wouldn't hurt starting now. "So, where are you guys from? I'm from Striberg -- well, originally born here but, you know, uh, demons kinda ruined that plan. So yeah..." She trailed off, staring forward with a thoughtful expression.

It seemed to Firaliel that everything was in place for the ship to set sail. They had a captain, enough money to buy supplies, and apparently enough people. Of course, Fira didn't know how large the ship was or how many people would be needed, but she let the others worry about such things. She hadn't yet been asked to do anything, so she figured that just being around was enough for now.

Fira had no objections to heading to the quarter master's office, so she started walking there with Malaure and Caz. Not surprisingly, Caz continued to talk almost nonstop, pausing only long enough for the others to reply. She came up with the idea of coming up with an emblem of sorts, but within seconds, she changed the topic to asking where the other two of them had come from.

Firaliel waited for a moment and then replied, "I'm from somewhere in the woodlands, although I don't know exactly what the maps call it. I'm not exactly sure of precisely where it is, except that I can get there if I want to."

Malaure was very impressed with how much Caz could talk, but it all seemed in good fun. It wouldn’t be an adventuring group if your companions didn’t have a few quirks about them. When Caz asked about the ships she said,

“Oh my ship isn’t too big, but large enough I would say. You will see it when we set out tomorrow. An emblem sounds interesting, but not sure I want to wait around while somebody designs and carves or paints it.”

She then let Caz continue talking until she was asked about where she was from. She immediately wondered how much she should tell. After all she really didn’t want anyone from home finding out where she was and sending her back to her mother. It was such a bother that it took so much longer to be considered an adult by elves.

“Oh… well my home is in Norwood Forest, but I have a tendency to travel and find adventures and such. Don’t really think about it that often…”

Malaure was quite glad when she spotted the quarter master’s office and hurried towards it. “Ah looks like we are here. Oh yeah don’t worry if she looks a bit scary the captain is a nice lady.”

Stepping inside she waved to a tall human woman who must have been nearly six and a half feet tall. She was wearing a simple bandana over her short hair. She wore a simple shirt and pair of loose pants suitable for working on a ship.

Malaure then spoke up, “Captain Lenor over here I found someone to pay you. This girl, Caz, can help work out the paper work.”

Captain Lenor came over looking down at them all. Captain Lenor certainly seemed imposing standing over them, but her voice seemed friendly enough when she spoke, “Alright then for those who don’t know I am Captain Lenor Menorax. As I told Malaure here as long as you can pay me and my crew will take you wherever you need to go. So then Caz, right? Let us get all this paperwork sorted out so we can get to sailing on the morn.”

Captain Lenor then would motion Caz to the desk where they could work out the details of the finances.

Cazmia giggled, clasping her hands together behind her back. "Two Norwoodians! Norwoodii? Whatever you call it. You two will have to tell me all about the forest sometime." It wasn't long, though, before they reached the quartermaster's office and met the person who would be their ship's captain for the next who-knows-how-long. Erin beamed up at the woman, an open-mouthed grin on her face. She waited for Malaure to introduce her before approaching and shaking the woman's hand eagerly. "You must be the fifth-tallest person I've ever met! A pleasure to meet you, Cap'n."

Lenor motioned the wizard to her desk, where they began working out the finances. Their conversation quickly turned into fast-paced slinging of financial terms back and forth. Caz, despite her apparent scatterbrained habits or outright foolishness, seemed to have no trouble at all explaining the Academy's funding and working out the crew's access to it. The wizard finally rose, shaking the tall woman's hand again. "Thank you so much! It'll really be a pleasure to work with you. ...Say, is it really difficult to balance on a ship in a storm when you're that tall?" She glanced at Malaure and Firaliel. "Err, I should probably be going. We'll talk later."

Caz practically bounded over to the other two women, her robes whipping over her slim frame. "It's all settled!" she exclaimed. "Everything will be ready by tomorrow morning!" She patted her dog on the head, its tail wagging.

Firaliel's opinion on the emblem was similar to Malaure's. Such a thing might be nice to have to identify the group and perhaps give them a common identity, but putting something together like that would take time, likely too much time. She decided to keep quiet about that for now, however, figuring that what Malaure had already said was sufficient.

Firaliel wasn't sure that she was actually from the Norwood forest, but she chose not to deny it for the time being. It wouldn't hurt for people to assume that she was from Norwood until she could figure out what the place she had come from was called by the people of this city.

Fira was surprised when she saw the captain, mainly because of her height. This was partly because the woman was significantly taller than herself. Firaliel didn't consider herself particularly tall, but she was aware that she was taller than most women. It was obvious that Caz had also noticed the captain's height because she made comments and joked about it.

This raised the question in her mind, Does this girl ever stop talking? To Fira, it seemed that Caz had to comment about everything she saw or heard, almost as if she couldn't think quietly and had to say everything that came to mind. Fira wasn't used to this, but so far, she wasn't annoyed by it.

She waited with Malaure as Caz and Captain Menorax worked out the details of financing the voyage. She was glad that she wasn't in charge of such things. She didn't know a whole lot about money and finances. Just a few months ago, she had been barely aware of what money was. In the city, it seemed everyone dealt with it and wanted it.

When Caz finished, she returned, excited, to Malaure and herself. She said, "It seems to me that the plan is to leave tomorrow morning. I think now would be a good time to find a place to spend the night. Does either of you have a preference as to where?"

Malaure laughed out loud at Fira’s comment. She couldn’t help it. Finding a place to sleep wasn’t that hard around this place. Anyways it wasn’t like they need one yet there was still many hours in the day left until that. Plus this was the night before setting out on an adventure. She clearly needed to teach that girl how to have a good time. Caz probably would enjoy herself too. That girl seemed to have endless energy.

Finished laughing, “… I already told you before we are going to have a fun time before setting out tomorrow. There are plenty of places to go and all sorts of things we can do. Let me just wrap things up and we can go.”

Not leaving them time to respond; Malaure went and talked to quarter master to arrange a dock. The poor man was confused as she just wanted an empty one. Her ship was in a bottle, but she would surprise people with that latter. Finished with that she then talked to Captain Menorax, “Okay well we will see you at dock six in the morning.”

She then walked back over to her two companions. “So where to first girls? We can find a place to dance or drink or something else fun? Heck we could even walk a bit find a place to swim. I am open to suggestions too.” Her large toothy grin showed her excitement as she got ready to enjoy the day and maybe the night as well. After all they could sleep on the ship if they needed to.

"Yay!" Caz squeaked. Suggestions racing through her head, she filtered through her frantic thoughts. Having a drink with these two women she barely knew probably wouldn't be a good idea -- she couldn't hold her liquor very well and didn't want to make a fool out of herself the night before the adventure. "Let's go swimming!" she suggested. "I've been in Taras for a while, but I haven't had a chance to visit the beaches yet."

Caz's dog Vika sensed the girl's excitement and wagged her tail vigorously. It had been a long time since Caz could throw sticks for her dog and let her romp around in the surf. If this was going to be their plan, maybe the other two would enjoy this as well. Even the stoic Firaliel could unwind a bit.

"There's vendors on the boardwalk if you guys want anything to eat," Caz added, pointing down in that direction.

Clearly, the others didn't care much for the schedule Firaliel was used to. She was used to getting to bed on time (and waking up early), although it wasn't that time yet. She just liked to have a place ready. She also often practiced her technique and meditated before going to sleep. In her experience, this helped her get to sleep and kept her skills sharp.

Apparently, such practice was not popular tonight. The other two women clearly wanted to have some kind of fun. She considered leaving them and finding a place to spend the night on her own, but she decided instead to stay with them. After all, they would probably be disappointed if she walked off on them.

She briefly considered things they could do. Firaliel didn't care for alcohol because of the way it affected her coordination, which was essential to her abilities. She had never danced before, but as she knew, there was a first time for everything. She thought about practicing her abilities and possibly teaching them and then thought that Caz didn't have the focus for her art--she was just too easily distracted.

She considered the option of going for a swim. She did go swimming sometimes in a river near her home, so she knew was she was doing and wasn't deterred by cold water. In addition, Caz was obviously taken by the idea of going swimming. The only issue she had with it was that she was used to finding a secluded spot with maybe one or two other women and leaving their clothing on the shore. The number of people she expected near the shore made this a bad idea. She decided to just go with the other two women and figure that out when they got there.

She said, "I think swimming is a good idea. Caz is obviously for it as well. What do you think, Malaure?"
