Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

It had been quite a test of the lupine's skill to get to where he now stood. The sunken area of the Taras slum was in a state of such advanced decay that every floor board that hadn't been washed away stood a fifty-fifty chance of breaking under his weight. Thindraug studied his next move carefully, stepped forward, then put his footpaw straight through another step.

Fine, seventy-thirty odds for someone my size. It's probably safer to just walk in the muck.

He glanced down at the stagnant water that pooled just beneath the floorboards.

... Yeah, not gonna happen.

The rogue continued to maneuver up the mostly absent stairwell, jamming his climbing pitons into the surrounding walls as necessary to provide himself with extra support. The decaying flight of stairs lead to an abandoned apartment above what used to be a pawn shop. It was there that he would find a small lock box where the former owner kept the most precious of his illegally obtained treasures.

It wasn't difficult to locate in the bedroom on the far side of the apartment. A rusted tin box lay beneath the mildewed remains of a bed, begging to be found. It was only a moment before the small padlock relinquished its grip upon the latches. Thindraug pulled out the bag of jewels and proudly held them up to the sunlight that beamed through the empty window frame next to him, wondering if his clients would notice a few missing gems. But he couldn't risk it when the bounty was this small, they had been expecting a safe full of treasures and were already likely to be displeased that they were operating off of bad information. However, the former shopkeep would be more likely to take the fall, as he had exchanged the location of his precious loot to pay his gambling debts.

It wasn't until then that he heard the sound of someone else moving through the apartment and froze. They were very close, moving stealthily enough to nearly escape detection. He slowly moved for the window, ready to make his escape if necessary...

This topic takes place in the sunken slum that Lumi described for round 2 of the Summer Sun Tournament.

I'd really like to do a rooftop chase for at least a little bit if possible, so I'm assuming that there's a single story roof or something outside of the window. Thinny will jump from the window onto the roof, and that that will lead out to other patchwork roofs that are now falling apart. You can assume Ahriman spots him with the treasure, then watches him jump out the window.

Ahriman had to deal with the disgusting and murky waterlogged ground below, somehow feeling that with every step he was slowly losing his will to ever wear his boots again. Perhaps the pants as well, he was still a little curious on that fact. He had long since become numb to the smell, the stagnancy of the water burning his nostrils so much he had stopped breathing out of them. That, in turn, gave a salty and wet taste to each breath he took, Ahriman lurching now and again. His tolerance for sea water was impressive, his tolerance for stagnant and murky water was less-so.
The only word he could truly bring to mind to describe his current predicament was disgusting. He raised himself to a sturdy board in the floor, hearing the creak in it with some dismay. The noise he just made would have alerted anyone that was nearby, something he wanted to avoid. He wasn't sure who else would be inhabiting this place, but he was quite sure that they wouldn't be very friendly to a lurking thief, especially an armed one that stunk of the water. He was quite sure his corpse wouldn't ruin it very much, either.

He proceeded, keeping the sound as low as he could, watching his steps as he moved across the boards of the floor. So many of them were collapsing he was finding himself reaching for beams on the ceiling more often then he pressed his feet forward one after another. He wondered if his ship would ever be in such a state as this wood, a wave of sadness passing over him as he thought of the beautiful vessel deep beneath the surface of the waters, or beached ashore and rotting from within thanks to the waters that flowed under it. He'd have to make a note of finding a way to stop that from happening, if not for himself and his crew then at least for that beautiful ship.
He smiled to himself as he finally worked his way towards the stairs of the place, each step being as lithe as he could manage. He would be the first to admit that his athletic frame wasn't the greatest for stealthy jobs, but he got by. It had been a while since he had been stripped of his shadow-walking abilities, but he had to admit he was becoming quite adept at the average, normal sort of sneaking. Not that he usually used it, his crew more accustomed to the iron skull through the wood door sort of tactic. Either one was fine, so long as he got paid.
And as he entered the room that contained his treasure, some sinking feeling in his stomach told him that being paid was going to be more difficult that he imagined. Wasn't it always? The musing made the pirate smile for a brief moment as the figure sent itself flying through a window, the lupine shape a little confusing - and he had to admit impressively fast. This would at least prove to be an amusing exchange, if nothing else.
The pirate smiled, muttering quietly as he looked towards the window, out to the roof of the adjacent building, "Seems I'll get to avoid the water fer a while, at least.. a blessing in disguise."
He pulled himself back, following after the humanoid wolf with an impressive jump of his own, a roll bringing him to his feet as he landed on the nearby roof. Part of the roof sticking to his clothing as if it was fungus he had just leaned against told him that remaining on a singular spot for long would be painful, if not fatal.
And a chase didn't seem to be a great option either, but a man had to do what he had to do to get a job done.

Already half-way out the window by the time the other scavenger poked his head into the room, Thindraug had little choice but to jump. It was always safer to run than to take one's chances with a confrontation. He had no sense of cowardice, only an instinct for survival and a very acute knowledge of his lack of weaponry and armor.

He landed on an adjacent single story roof, which rattled considerably under his weight. He was surprised that its pillars didn't snap like twigs, but didn't stop to appreciate his good fortune. He glanced over his shoulder as he hopped across to the adjoining roof, surprised to see that he'd been followed. Whoever this man was, he was not ordinary. Few commoners possessed the will, let alone the skill to leap from a window the way they had chosen, which told him to be extra vigilant about his persecutor.

What were the odds of someone so skillful appearing in the same abandoned slum at the same time without any connection to himself or his mission?

Pretty slim, he figured.

He used his running start to cross a gap between the roof and the exposed second story of a half-missing building. There used to be walls and a ceiling here that would have prevented him from making such a leap, but they had collapsed long ago and exposed the brick and mortar of the building's exoskeleton.

The landing was tricky, with only a cinderblock's width for his feet to catch, but he managed to stick it. An overshoot would have landed him in a pile of rubble with doubtful stability, which he hoped would be enough of a risk to deter the other man. Using the uneven remains of the brick wall as a stairwell, he ascended another story so that he could find more rooftop accesses if necessary.

The pirate had to admit that the lithe movements of the lupine creature was impressive, especially for it's size. He was always impressed with the capabilities of creatures closer to animals then man, and that was why he kept a few on his crew. It was difficult to have a human worth as much as one of them. He pressed forward with a smile on his face, feeling the ceiling beneath his feet bending beneath his weight. He rushed on, his lithe movements barely keeping him from tumbling through to the floors below.
He pressed on, finding himself hard pressed to match the feats that the lupine was doing, though not for a lack of skill. His body was perfectly acquainted with quick, agile movements, though he would easily admit that he had never attempted it through buildings that were so rotten he'd avoid them any other day. Today, however, he had a pay day riding upon tracking down the target that was quickly moving from him. With a small curse he pressed forward, following after and almost falling to the floor below as he reached the small foot catching, wobbling slightly before clutching himself to the wall.
"Hells, hells, hells they better pay well..."

A shadow passed over, the figure of Elnora in the sky tracing shadows over their chase. She cawed as she saw the lupine that her master was chasing, circling where the pseudo-animal creature was, her eyes gazing down. The pirate smiled, glad that he had the wits to bring along the thunder-bird when he had the chance. She had proven herself useful countless times before, and now would be no different. He ran up the 'stairwell' that the agile creature had taken ahead of him.
Taken to the next landing, Ahriman found a smile crossing his face. The pirate found himself quite amused by this whole chase, it was quite different from the usual course of things. he tended to be the one running away from someone else, though that was usually law and not someone who was simply competing for whatever little treasures they had found.
"C'mon pup, we could finish this a lot faster! I'd really rather not fall into the muck below, I've already gotta clean me boots!'
He threw himself to a small slab of brick that was likely a wall at some point as the ground beneath him collapsed. He watched the lupine then traced the path he took. He'd need to keep at a brisk pace, it seemed that remaining in one spot for too long would cause him to be cast into the waters below, or worse yet whatever muck the ground and water made. He pressed forward, twisting his feet in many places as he felt the ground beneath him bend and pushing himself forward. There were a few places that he felt his balance shift, but it hadn't been the first time he would have to use that to his advantage, and he was quite sure it wouldn't be the last.

A stifled smile briefly flashed across his lupine features. There was little about which he was insecure, and being called "pup" had no derogatory impact upon him. Another quick glance back at his pursuer made him wonder about the man's motives. As far as he could tell, no weapon had been drawn to use against him yet, which was significant.

He had briefly feared an assassination attempt, convinced that crossing paths in this remote location was no accident. But thus far the would-be assassin showed no signs of attacking him, and Thindraug didn't have any high-powered enemies that he knew of who would try to get rid of him, which indicated that the man was after the treasure clutched tightly in his hand-paw. He would probably be disappointed to see how small the haul really was.

"It'll be over soon enough, stranger," he shouted back.

Pleased to see that he appeared to be widening the gap between himself and his opponent, he leapt yet another gap between roofs. Seemingly out of nowhere, something large and feathered swooped down upon him mid-leap and collided into him, sending him careening off of his intended course. He crashed down at an awkward angle onto a weak spot in the crumbling roof, collapsing a piece of it beneath his weight. Between the bumpy landing and his desperate attempt to keep himself from falling completely into the gaping hole beneath him, he lost his grip on the bag of gems. It laid several yards away from him, and for the moment he could do nothing but stare at it as he tried to pull his dangling body up and over the unstable ledge to which he clung. He could only hope his lead had been large enough to recover from such a blunder.

Something about the response he had gotten from the lupine made the thief both uneasy and excited at the same time. One part of him wondered if the creature was somewhat aggressive, and may use the chase to set an ambush to kill the pirate, another ultimately satisfied at whatever dangers were ahead, and willing to run into them for excitement. Sometimes he hated that side of his mind, looking for wonder and new adventure in every experience. Damn pirates and their wonder-lust.
He growled as he heard small noises form below. It was nothing that he wouldn't have noticed were he not already on alert, but it was the sorta noise that was usually followed by an arrow that planted itself firmly between your shoulders. The sort that left you dead in the dirt.
"Why can't it ever be simple?" He muttered quietly to himself, knowing that no one could truly hear him. He shook his head, "Ye need to stop talkin' to yerself, Ahriman. Stop it..."

He found himself both surprised and disappointed as the lupine hung from the roof, trying to scramble himself up. He looked up to his avian companion as he crossed the roofs, his nimble feet finding a hold unmolested by any creature with feathers and a habit for slamming into people. Elnora had a way of being a rather helpful creature when she was inclined, the pirate always loved that about her.
As he landed next to the bag of gems, however, he felt a pang of guilt at the thought of just taking it and running. He looked to the lupine, his ears perking up to hear the coming of whoever else was in the area. The pirate was a lot of things, but one of them didn't happen to be the kind of guy who leaves people to the wolfs (no pun intended). He walked towards the lupine, offering his hand to help him out of the whole in the roof that promised to toss him into the murky waters below.
He grinned, "Not a bath I think ye wanna be takin', pup."
He waited to see if the creature had too much pride to take his hand, hoping that whatever weirdness they would feel at the sudden change of pace could be moved through quickly. Ahriman didn't mind chasing or running, but having to deal with multiple groups at the same time was something that made him uncomfortable when he was without the help of his crew.

Looking at the gems for a moment the pirate shook his head, biting back the urge to take them and continue on the jog. He could easily get out on his own, either with the assistance of his pet bird or when his crew came to retrieve him, the boat equipped well enough that they could catch him in the midst of his run. Hopefully, anyway.
Looking back at the lupine-creature, Ahriman sighed, "Truce, then? I'd rather not have to fight if we can avoid it."
