Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Zenji had made the stupid decision of mountain climbing, he was hunting a paladin, he was offered quite a bit of gold to take him out. Zenji took the job immediately, rushing to the mountains with little equipment and taking no advice from the villages he passed by, gold was all that was on his mind, with enough gold maybe he could buy a small slaughterhouse to practice in, oh he felt giddy with delight. He had scaled a good deal of the mountains before finding his foe... ten feet below him. He had to drop down and murder the man while he wasn't looking, he wondered how he missed him really, but he killed him all the same.

That's when the storm hit, a torrent of snow swiping the corpse and all of his dreams for gold with it, he looked over the edge to see nothing but white snow, he growled in frustration, climbing down would be just as hazardous as climbing up, at least climbing up let him see the rocks falling down at him so he would have a chance to dodge. He quickly started to scramble up the rock face, climbing and half falling for a few minutes until he reached a ledge somewhat protected by the snow, a cave lead into the rocky interior of the mountain, Zenji shrugged as he drew his katana, slowly walking into it. This cave was his best bet for staying alive until the storm blew over... he half-hoped he didn't find anyone and half hoped he found someone to slaughter and play with, either way, he would find some way to amuse himself.

Nia sat on a high ledge overlooking the vast expanse of air. This place was small, with only a small cave a ways down from the ledge. However, it was cold, and she could feel the air singing. She closed her eyes and answered the song, and the small storm grew stronger. The wind payed with her hair and the cold sting of ice on her skin was comforting. She sat, half buried and mostly hidden by the snow. When she thought she saw someone. She stopped singing and stood. the snow sliding from her skin.

She looked around and thought she saw what it was. A corpse? Well there was always plenty of those around. Someone who was already dead served her no purpose. However, it looked like it had been a rather bloody death. She looked about for the other participant. Then she smiled, perhaps the cave?

Making her way there was easy enough, but as she walked in, she was disappointed. The place was as boring as she remembered. Just to be sure, she slid through a crevice and looked about the smaller room that had once been used for storage. It must have been a long time ago though, as there was a layer of dust and quite a few holes in things. The air was stale... Still, nothing of interest. Fine. She would go back to her storm.

She slid back out of the room and was just crossing the main room of the cavern when she lucked out. There was someone! She must have been faster then him. She feigned surprise and said, "Who are you? What do you want?"

Zenijrou moved slowly through the cave, his eyes constantly searching the walls with his free hand as the tip of the katana scratched against the ground. The tunnel turned slightly, taking him into a larger area... where he saw a beautiful woman, he smirked, must be his lucky day. He heard her ask who he was and what he wanted, he sighed and sheathed his blade, allowing her to see the thick steel plated gauntlets, small spikes covering the knuckles and wrist. He wouldn't reveal his blade's tricks... oh no, that would be used for later if she tried anything funny.

"Oh I'm Zenjirou Fujibayashi, but please, call me Zenji," He bowed deeply, sweeping his left arm outward to show the skin dyed red. He slowly straightens up as he begins his explanation, "As for why I'm here, I came here to get out of the storm, but fate must have it that we meet here. What is your name oh beauty?" He knew it was cheesy, but women were suckers for this stuff, plus, it would hide his normal blood lust for now. He needed to gain her trust at least before doing anything funny.

She seemed to relax a little once he put his blade away and kept hidden her amusement at so called fate. She had seen signs of another person due to the corpse now hidden in the snow further along the side of the mountain. She was glad she had found someone here, even if she had been faster then her target. In her mind, this was a good thing.

In the low light she wondered how soon he would notice that she was dressed more like it was the middle of the summer, with the exception of her boots which went up just past her knees. Some people didn't always realize right away, thinking she wore something blue underneath her actual white clothes before realizing it was her skin that was that blue as well.

"Oh, uh..." she acted a little embarrassed at his words, letting her gaze drop to his feet and played with her white hair. "I'm Nia..." She kept her eyes downcast for the moment, watching his feet and lower legs, judging his balance and movements that way to find out how he was moving or planning to move. She continued to fiddle with her hair as well, running her finger through a small chunk of hair over her right shoulder. She was drawing on being a little shy and uncertain, forcing him to act first. She would then need to judge his usefulness and deal with him from there.

He smirked, how cute, she's shy. He moved slowly, his movements were quick and precise, he noticed the clothes... it was odd to be dressed like that in the mountains, maybe she has some sort of magic to keep warm. Though he couldn't really deny his own apparel wasn't exactly mountain climbing worthy, he wore black pants, black boots, a black shirt with a blood red sleeveless vest over it. He'd have to find out, "So, why are you so far up the mountains dressed like there will be a heat wave soon?" He kept his voice calm and friendly, no need to get violent yet... let her think you're just a bounty hunter. He kept his eyes moving over her, he needed to know exactly when she'd strike if she was going to try to kill him.

He leaned against the one wall, keeping both his eyes still on her, "Better question, do you live here in this cave or a village a little ways off, also do you happen to know when this storm will cease?" He kept the smile plastered on his face, better to seem a polite idiot then a cold calculating murderer.

His movements were almost calculated and it made her feel she would have to play her cards carefully in order to not stumble. His next words caused her a moment's hesitation, and she stopped playing with her hair, but the following question was much more perfect. She would use an older tale, one that another ice maiden had used where Nia had played the role of the servant who had warned her. It was a good story, one she had always wanted to use. She looked at him through her lashes, keeping up the appearance of being shy.

"Oh, no. I don't live here. I used to live in a mansion." She pointed towards the north. "My mother had passed giving birth to me, so all I had was my father. Well, he remarried and my stepmother... she froze the entire place, including everyone who said they would not serve her. She called herself the Ice Queen. She made them into statues of ice..." Nia let her voice break, as if she was going to cry. "I ran away and she sent wolves after me. So, so I'm hiding. I hope they don't find me here. I hope the storm lasts long enough for the wolves to loose my scent..." Let him think there was more to worry about outside then snow...

Well, part of it was true. However, she had never had a father, or a mother, at least none that she remembered. She had lived in a mansion she had build. And she did loose her territory, home, and servants to an Ice Queen. The wolves had been sent after her, but they were no longer any real threat. As for her attire, she would leave that one unanswered. Let him think what he will.

He almost wanted to draw his blade, cut open her throat and kick her out of the cave, though if the wolves came he could probably kill them, he was faster and stronger, it was nothing but a minor detail in his plans. He calmly straightened up, "Don't worry, a few wolves aren't going to get you, I could easily kill them all." Of course the wolves would lose the scent, the blizzard would force to find shelter or return home, if they were trained animals they'd probably return home.

He slowly straightens up and walks closer to her, according to her she was alone and on the run, what more could he ask, "Well we'll be stuck here for a while, how about we relax and we can chat about ourselves, get to know each other since we'll be the only company for a while." He walked past as he took off his sword belt, placing his katana on his lap as he sat down, his back to the wall, he could see the down the tunnel to keep aware of anyone coming down it and he could easily keep the girl in his vision, he couldn't drop his guard yet. Her story could be true, though if there was a frozen mansion and this girl was on the run that meant there was a powerful sorceress in the mountains, he'd have to keep Nia alive, just in case he met the sorceress, he could offer her for his life... and the murder them both if he had the chance.

She was starting to doubt the usefulness of this man. Did he not know what a wolf out here was like? These had been no normal wolves. They are smarter, white, and almost immune cold. In fact, many of them can breath a mist-like breath that freezes what it touches, to immobilize their pray. Thankfully she had a resistance to that because she could shift into her elemental form, but that had no real form or function... beyond looking like snow... She gave a small shrug and sat down in about the middle on the room. She sat with her feet and knees on the stone floor as she sat on her heels. She absently ran her fingers along the edge on her drum on it's strap across her shoulders. It had been moved behind her before, but when she sat she moved it to the side as to not hit it with her feet.

"Actually, do you know anywhere I could go. I can't go to Striberg. She will be able to find me there. I've never actually been past these mountains before." That wasn't entirely fact. As Striberg belonged to humans and mages with protection from the cold, it probably would be safe from the Ice Queen who stole her land. The true part was traveling past the mountains. She had been busy protecting her land claim. Without it she would need to find a new base of operation. This cave would not do. Instead she needed servants. If she could raise a force against the Ice Queen, just some overpowered Snow Maiden like herself, then she could have revenge at the least, and sweet victory at the most.

Zenji smirked, as he spoke, "I have contacts in Striberg that could hide you, though be careful my boss is a bit of a wild card, she's so nice to me but quite cruel to others, plus she's always looking for new talent, you have any skills of note?" The information gathering begins, once he knew her skills he could show her to Lumi, or perhaps put her in his own employ, maybe he deserved a toy or two. Zenji kept his eye on the door, something flashed across his vision, it was to big to be a normal wolf, plus the snow should have erased their scent.

He kept his eye on the door, there it was again, he slowly stood up, hand on katana hilt, his other hand nudging it out slightly with his thumb, a small bit of steel could be seen. His eyes narrowed as he saw red eyes, a white wolf rushed him, charging him and snarling, white mists rushing from its mouth as it breathed, a beast was rarely a challenge but this one was different, it stayed low, it was going to try and take out his legs, smart move to take out bears and other large creatures, but not on Zenji. He quickly ran at it, drawing his blade and tilting forward, slashing it's legs out from under it, the stumps erupting with blood, its paws and most of it's legs scattered across the floor, he moved over to the wolf and simple stabbed it several times until its eyes dulled and it stopped moving, the enchantment on his sword though caused the blood splatters to reach his face, blood covered it quite a bit.

He grabbed the wolf and started to drag it out, he looked back at her and simply smiled, he licked the blood from his lips and dragged it out of the cave, returning shortly to do the same with the legs, "How did you like my performance?" Was his only question as he sat down near her, he had cleaned his katana on the beast's hide and sheathed it, he had shown his strength.

Nia had no intention of telling him what she could or could not do, but before any thought could be formed as to what she felt like telling him, there was trouble. She readied herself for a rather quick departure, but was surprised to see the beast fall. Her eyes darted to the beast's throat and she saw what she had hoped wouldn't be there, the colors of the Ice Queen. More Wolves? She had already killed the first pair! Had she pissed the woman off that badly? Perhaps...

She dropped her guise, knowing now that her life, or at least her existence as a free being, was at risk. The storm... she had sensed the music and replied. So close to her old territory the Ice Queen or one of her lackeys must have herd... It had been stupid, very, very stupid. She scrambled to her feet as he was starting to sit next to her. She cussed and snapped at him, "Don't sit down! Wolves travel in packs!"

She rushed for the entrance, ignoring the man, and broke out into the snow. She saw another wolf not far. Not waiting for it to see her or smell the blood of it's fallen comrade, she placed her fingers in her mouth to let out a shrill and high pitched whistle. Now the wolf saw her. It lifted it's head and loosed a howl in return.

Nia turned to face it. Her birds would respond in just a moment, but just in case... Nia stabbed her staff into the snow and placed her hands before her, palms facing each other. Her right hand was level to her chest and the other at her stomach. Cold and ice started to collate between her hands. The ice orb would not do much, but the force of the blow should knock a beast back. She saw another shadow, perhaps two in the storm behind them. She hoped it was more wolves and not any of the Ice Queens minions. As soon as her birds were here she was going to take back control of the storm...

Zenji followed her out, drawing his katana, he looked at the wolf she was casting at, she knew magic, good, one skill identified. He turned to the side, two wolves were coming at them, readied himself, the two circled him and surrounded him, slowly moving, he smirked, the first attack would be from the side or back, it was time he made the first move. He rushed the one in front of him, slashing out with his katana, the wolf dodged it easily, leaping at him. Using his superior reflexes and speed he brought his katana up, using the wolf's leap to impale it, quickly dropping his blade her swings his upper body around, slamming his spiked gauntlet into the next one's charging snout, it fell to the ground growling, Zenji didn't miss a beat, he quickly beat it to death, punching it's face and sides to keep it from standing back up.

He breathed hard, it was to cold to fight like this, he retrieved his katana, cleaning the blood from it. He looked at the grisly scene, it made his heart flutter, this woman had such nice enemies, it'd be a shame to kill her without getting a reward for killing this 'Ice Queen.' He smirked as he turned to see how his temporary ally had handled her enemy.

Nia never cast the spell. A sharp cry sang past her head and a cold blast of air drew her hair forward over her solders. She dropped the spell, uncast, and took hold of her staff. She lifted her free hand up and a large bird, her Thunderbird, landed on her gloved hand. She transferred the bird to her other arm, the one that held her staff, so she would have a free hand. Electricity crackled along the Thunderbird's wings as it settled on her arm, it's claws getting a good grip on the tough leather she provided for it to rest on.

The other bird had gone right into the fight, using control winds to make impossible turns at ridiculous speeds. The first strike blinded the wolf. The second drew blood and the wolf's wrath. Nia sighed and lifted her Thunderbird up, and it took to the sky as well. Lightning struck the wolf once, then the Zephyr Bird, then a second strike. The wolf was down.

Her gaze shifted as she saw the three fighting and her not bothering too, not when she didn't have to. She turned her back on the fight as soon as her Thunderbird took wing. A short ways down the slope was a tall rock. She climbed upon it and sat down, drawing her drum into her lap. A hum emerged from her throat as her fingers played across the skin of the drum. Her eyes closed and she listened to the music. It was not very strong, just wind and rain, which of course up here turned into snow. She quickened her beat after matching the storm's, and she felt it's control slip under her will. She was a better Storm Kindler, but just barely.

That told her something useful. The Ice Queen was not yet involved. It was someone else, someone who had not been expecting to find her. Another Snow Maiden perhaps, or one of those men the Ice Queen had brought with her. Her Zephyr Bird landed in the snow in front of her and watched her play the drum.

Zenji heard the drum beats, looking down at her, she could play music, but something was off about it. He flicked the blood from his blade and sheathed it, he slowly crawled down to her, being extra careful not to fall. He slid down part of the way, covering his head and neck with his hands as he rolled down into the soft snow, he had gotten lucky. He stood up, wiping the snow out of his hair and off his body as he walked closer to her, wondering what she was doing exactly.

He smirked as he saw the birds, she could cast spells and had control over two beasts of power, if he fought her he'd need to be in a place that would restrict or nullify the bird's ability to fly. He stood next to her, he listened to the drum for only a moment before speaking, "Any idea where the location of our enemy is, I have a gift for them as a thank you for sending so many wolves out." He grasped his katana's hilt, he would kill whoever did this and slaughter them with extreme prejudice, he waited for her response, soon he would be back on the hunt.

She pointed up the slope without looking. It was where the storm had come from. She however, was not going to bother fighting one of her kin who was under the thrall of the Ice Queen. If she left these mountains, went south into the cities and raised her own force, she could return to her home and gain the same forces as allies of her own. She needed more then one blood-thirsty man though. No matter how well he thought he fought. It was messy, unorganized, and would do no good against the forces of the Ice Queen.

"I'm heading south. What's the closest city down there?" She asked, looking at the man and wondering what he thought he could do against ice itself... Oh well, humans have always been foolish and hot-headed. She kept a light pattern on the skin of the drum with her fingers, holding onto the storm even though she felt the small tug of the original caller trying to regain control.

He wondered that himself, he had never gone south from here exactly, so he gave his honest answer, "No clue, I traveled here from Striberg, I could lead you back there since I've got no reason to stay here if you're leaving." He looked in the direction of Striberg, his boss was probably waiting for a report about the mission, though she would probably assume he's dead, he hadn't failed yet. He stroked his chin and shrugged, "If you're hellbent on going south I'll escort you until you hit it, then I'll be going my own way... though if you ever come back here, drop by Striberg, I'm sure I'd be excited about seeing you again." He smiled, the woman was being to cautious, if she knew where her enemy was she should kill her... oh well, it wasn't really his problem, though if a reward was in it he would care enough to murder the enemy.

He looked up into the sky, it was still a cold day in the mountains, he could feel his own body freezing, bit by bit, if they were going to move south they should get going, or if they were going to Striberg they'd need to move double time, the snow was a constant threat of frostbite.
