The demolition of Taras might be two years in the past, but the great scars left on the city remained to this day. Once, Seele would have gone to the Bloodseal Tavern in order to make his shadowy inquiries, but the tavern, like so many other buildings, had been reduced to rubble by the demonic hordes. After the destructive forces had been quelled, one of the first businesses to reappear had been a replacement tavern. The elf sat in a shadowy corner of the establishment, surveying the environment with his keen golden eyes. The Dancing Demon had probably been a nobleman’s mansion before the battle, given its size and the few remaining pieces of the original architecture. However, when the city was overrun the entire second story had been blasted away by some tremendous power, , as well as en entire side of the first floor. The resulting ruin still had three standing walls, and after the rubble and clutter had been cleared from the inside, had become a new hub of drinking, companionship, and shadowy dealings. Rough tarps had been lacked to the remaining walls and bound together to form an impromptu roof, while tables had been fashioned from pieces of masonry and wooden planks found in the wreckage. The fourth wall had been replaced by large stones taken from the rubble, haphazardly melted together by a passing mage.

The end result was a shoddy, downtrodden establishment that had become the favorite tavern of the unsavory individuals who sought profit in the ruins. The Dancing Demon attracted a wide variety of customers, from thieves and off-duty guards to [removed]s and travelers who wished to maintain a low profile. At least one musician was usually performing in the tavern somewhere, although the current crowd was thankfully bereft of any such aspiring bards. The proprietor was a short, rotund man whose appearance belayed the strength in his thick shoulders, as many a rowdy patron had discovered. He had fashioned the par itself from a long pew that had escaped the wreckage with only a few mars. Seele suspected the piece of furniture had been stolen from one of the wrecked cathedrals of the old gods, but it doubtlessly served a more important purpose here. The crowd tonight was boisterous and rambunctious, but no actual fights had broken out among the rabble.

Seele’s interest in the tavern was not the owner’s activities, however, but rather one of the guests seated at the makeshift bar. He was human and stocky, with a tangled beard and close-cut hair. His helm rested on the crooked pew next to him, and he wore a set of dented and scratched scale armor underneath his traveler’s cloak. A short sword was sheathed on either hip, and he seemed very comfortable in the use of the weapons. The man was a curiosity for several reasons. Seele himself had taken quite an interest in the rebuilding effort in Taras. It wasn’t often that the capital of realm was so completely annihilated, and Seele saw plenty of opportunities in the wreckage to further cull the survivors of the catastrophe. He was, however, not the only one who had plans for the rebuilding effort. Many of the officials were already on an unofficial payroll, and many of the buildings with the most workers were not what the elf had expected. For example, near the razed plot of land that had once held the great Taras Arena, he had found a bustling and prominent reconstruction site that was completely off-limits to outsiders, with a number of well-armed and dangerous looking guards that suggested the work was of great importance. Yet no official declaration of a rebuilding project had been announced for the site. A few days of observation had led to this individual, who was called Mikel, was the man who had personally hired many of the workers and guards. He had learned this from one of the workers himself, who thought sharing the information would stop Seele from executing him. He had been wrong.

Given his appearance, Seele doubted the man was actually the benefactor for the project. He looked more like a mercenary, hired to act as a go-between for the actual investor. Several such individuals must exist, given the large amount of coin being spend on the restoration effort, yet this man was the biggest lead Seele had discovered. The secrecy of the construction effort also intrigued the elf. Absentmindedly sipping a glass of decidedly sub-par wine, Seele continued to watch Mikel from his shadowy corner. The man’s routine did not usually lead him to The Dancing Demon, and the elf expected him to make contact with his true employer at some point during the night.

Boros had been sitting in the bar for a while, with nothing better to do he took his time observing the people. He took note of the armed men and their positions, best to be careful. His ears perked up as he heard two people arguing, their voices were escalating, the insults were flying, of course that was normal, probably just a few friends who just drank a bit to much... then he heard the verbal abuse that was being thrown at the musician, his hands clenched, these men weren't being fair, they would need to be taught balance if this escalated anymore.

A mug was thrown at him, along with a quick insult from a rather muscular customer, "Whatcha lookin' at Glowball?" remarked one of the two who had been arguing, they had pretty muscular upper bodies... lumberjacks, maybe miners? Either way, Boros didn't take the insult to well, the marks on his eyes that made them glow green were inscribed by his father, these two must be dealt with an a fast and humiliating manor... a lesson must be learned. Boros stood up, walked past the cracked mug that landed near him, his eyes locked on them, their laughter and jeering at him did not deter him. They stood up, looking him dead in the eye, "Do ya think ya can take us Glowball? Well just try to!" Raising his fist he threw a large haymaker.

Boros rolled his eyes, the fool had no idea how to use his fists in a fight, Boros quickly bobbed to the side and weaved under his arm, delivering a strong uppercut to his jaw, teeth fell onto the table like hail. Boros quickly stepped into the other man's chest, head low he swung his left jab into his stomach, knocking the wind out of him, taking a step back was all he needed now, he hopped forward with a quick step, slamming his fist into the man's nose, blood flowed freely has he gasped for breath. Finally he clapped both fists against his temples, knocking the man out, one gargling teeth and the other gargling blood... they would learn their lesson about insulting someone.

Seele had ignored the increased noise from the bar area until a stumbling, muscular man obscured his sight of his target. The elf’s lips curled back in a silent snarl. The tavern was crowded enough that a few moments would be all it took to lose his target at a crucial moment. He drained the wine glass in one quick gulp, using the motion of placing it back on the table to pull the brim of his hat down. This won’t do at all. I have to get involved. With his face obscured by the worn fabric, Seele tapped his magical energy, causing his eyes to glow brighter for a mere instant.

Alter Self

The elf closed his eyes and rubbed his fingertips over the closed lids, as if he had a headache. When he opened them again the irises had been transformed from their typical golden color to an icy blue hue. He covered his cheeks with his hands, willing his skin to change from its natural, white pallor to a healthy, tanned disposition. He also added more meat to his thin features, completely changing the shape of his face. Quickly cupping his fingers around his ears removed the typical pointed lobes of the elven race, making him appear human at a glance. He ruffled his silvery hair with both hands, changing its color from metallic silver to a dull, unremarkable brown. Raising his head, a completely different person looked up from the table in the corner. He took a moment to collect himself, guaranteeing that none of the other patrons had noticed his use of magic. Confident that his identity would remain a secret, the disguised elf stood from the table, a small smile curling his lips upwards at the corners. This could be fun.

Seele slipped through the crowd easily, eyes locked on Mikel’s back. The man had donned his helm, twisting slightly in his chair in order to keep an eye on the brawl. Seele turned his own attention to the fight as he neared the combat. A tall human had taken control of situation around him, easily defeating two of the drunken men in the melee. More of the crowd had joined the melee by this point. Seele ‘s first opponent was a dwarf, the top of his head barely reaching the tall elf’s midriff. However, his fists were gauntleted, and his eyes were alight with the joy of the fight. Seele was forced to dodge around the smaller figure’s harsh blows, the small, confident smile never leaving his transformed face. He suddenly lunged forward, stepping close enough the dwarf couldn’t strike the elf without readjusting his footing. Seele brought both elbows down on the dwarf’s crown, putting his entire weight into the blow. Ignoring the pain reverberating through his arms, Seele pursued the dazed dwarf, his grin growing larger. He snapped his knee up into the dwarf’s stomach, sending the small man reeling into the makeshift bar. Seele turned to his left to find himself facing one of the original fighters. Interestingly enough, the man’s eyes seemed to glow with a green light. Before Seele could fully ponder this revelation, his eyes widened at the proceedings behind the man.

Mikel was leaving with a stranger wearing a full cloak that obscured his figure entirely.

Seele’s lips curled back and a low growl escaped his throat. He reached past the other man, grabbing a tankard of ale off of the pew. Pivoting quickly, he threw the full glass into another man’s face. He continued the spin, throwing the empty container at another approaching fighter. He needed to get out of this situation, now. Coming out of his rotation, Seele found himself back to back with the man with glowing eyes. Seele’s fingers curled into fists as he eyed the crowd warily.

Boros noted someone at his back, he needed to get to the door, the bar brawl would last for a while and he was no longer needed here. He easily dodged the drunken strikes. His inner fighter made him want to stop them and teach them how to throw a jab instead of all these full body punches, they were slow and telegraphed... it was boring. He dodged to the side, grabbing the man's arm that had thrown the punch, he pulled it forward as he punched the side of the man's head. He quickly shot a jab into the jaw of another, he reeled back as he felt his jaw. He quickly starts to make his way to the door, bobbing and weaving through the fray, throwing jabs and hooks as needed.

As he arrived at the door he saw a man walk out with a helmet and chainmail. He turned around to see a man with a mug, smashing it down towards his head. He quickly grabbed the arm, using his own momentum against him he pulls him forward, grabbing the back of his tunic as he quickly out his legs, sending him tumbling over the bar into some wine bottles. "Whoops... that's bad," he quickly rushed outside, he sighed, "I knew this would happen... but it was unavoidable." He contemplated his actions, it wasn't the best choice, his thoughts were clouded by anger at the insult to a gift his father gave him. He looked up into the sky, he thought of his father and wondered if he'd be proud of him... but he had little time to think about that, he could see someone out of the corner of his eyes. He didn't respond to the person's existence or acknowledge them, if he wanted to talk he would start talking.

Seele ducked below a wild swing from another vermin, crouching on the stone floor. He lashed out with one foot, catching the offending brawler in the knee, forcing the joint to bend in an unnatural direction. The man crashed to the floor, howling and clutching the wounded limb. Many of the other fighters were unconscious or otherwise indisposed by this point. Seele straightened as the portly bartender reached under the bar, clearly deciding that enough was enough. His hand came back with a heavy wooden club, the polished knob at the end pitted and scratched from use. He roared at the unruly crowd, using the cudgel to brain the nearest fighter.Well then, time to go…

The elf moved towards the door, but found his way blocked by a trio of inebriated and furious men. A moment of analysis led him to believe they were the companions of the man whose knee he had just shattered. I can’t let Mikel get away… Enough of this! Seele shook off the Alter Self spell merely by shaking his head, frustration contorting his face into a angry grimace. With his target outside of The Dancing Demon, he had no use for the disguise anyway. The brawlers took a step back as his skin visibly paled, a golden glow returning to his eyes as his hair took on its unnatural silver sheen. He made a complicated gesture with one hand, once more calling on his magical ability. Cause Fear.

The unholy spell spread from the shadow sorcerer like a miasma, immediately focusing on the men between him and the exit. Their faces blanched as Seele approached them, sweat beading on their brows. One of the men tentatively jabbed at the elf, but he was too quick for the drunkard. Taing full advantage of his superior speed and the arcane fear he had instilled in them, Seele danced underneath the blow, slipping one of his fighting daggers out from its hidden sheath in his sash. He slashed the blade across the man’s torso almost too quickly to see, deftly stepping behind the man’s bulk before blood began to spray from the wound. The remaining two men began to tremble as he continued to approach them, Muginn unsheathed, blood running down the blade. Seele’s voice dripped with malevolence as he approached. “Move. NOW.

Both of the drunks had enough sense to scurry out of the elf’s way before he got close enough to strike. Seele wiped the blood off of the blade on the inside of his cloak before he resheathed it, quickening his pace to reach the exit without further interruption. He could hear the bartender begin to lay into the club with his club as the door slammed shut behind him, cutting off the sounds of the melee. Now, to find the true prize… Seele caught a glimpse of a familiar helmed figure leaving the alleyway before he realized he was not alone. The human with the glowing green eyes was also outside. Seele instinctively fell back into a fighter’s stance, his arms held loosely at his side and his knees slightly bowed. He said nothing to the stranger, watching him with his golden gaze.

He could feel the gaze, he turned to look at him, his eyes giving off a bright glow, "Your stance is good, but I have no quarrel with you, my only fight was with the men who insulted the gift my father gave me. I have done enough damage to help jump start the restoration of balance, now the barkeep will do the rest with his club. I will not fight unless you to want to fight, if so then I will not hesitate to take you down in the most efficient manner possible," standing up straight he slightly widens his stance, twisting his upper half to look him straight in the eye. "As you probably saw I am not a drunk who can be taken down with a well timed jab to the chin, I am a trained fighter, this is the only warning I give if you still want to fight." He raised only one hand, keeping it up at eye level as an effective right guard, but his other arm... it swung as if it was limp.

"Now speak if you don't wish to fight, do you have business with me or are you just a random brawler." He had no doubt in his mind that fighting was a likely outcome, he was easily irritable right now, he needed to cool down and all the fighting and stances riled him up a bit. He looked the man over, he was pale and silver of hair, tall to boot, he would have to charge into his chest, swinging for body blows, yes, that would be his first step if this ended in a fight.

Seele did not meet many other individuals whose eyes had the same incandescent properties as his own. He took a minute to evaluate the situation, quickly taking in the other man’s posture and bearing. He also recalled the swiftness with which the stranger had dealt with his opponents during the hectic fighting mere minutes before. One thing was clear: the man’s threat was no bluff. He probably knows more about hand-to-hand combat than I do… Just being quick wouldn’t be enough for this one. Seele’s fingers twitched as he rapidly contemplated options. He had no doubt that with his enchanted daggers or magic he could easily obliterate this man. Seele’s bloodlust had not been quenched by killing one unskilled drunkard, and he felt the sudden urge to let Muginn drink the human’s lifeblood. He could see it in his mind’s eye: the man’s broken body crumpled on the ground, his clothes torn and sullied, his green eyes cooling as Seele plunged the dagger into his chest again and again and again…

Seele’s eyes glowed brighter for an instant as the wave of killing frenzy flooded his mind. Yet he was no longer a slave to his homicidal urges, so he forced himself to calm down and analyze the situation further. Executing the impertinent human would take too long, and draw too much attention to the elf. He needed to start tracking Mikel and his companion, and quickly. The best option would be to just ignore the man and track his prey… But he had asked if the elf had business with him. Perhaps the human’s martial prowess could be used to Seele’s advantage…

To help the restoration of balance, eh…? Seele’s mind churned with possibilities, weighing what he should say next, eyes never leaving the man’s face. “I do actually have business with you, sir. You are just as skilled as I had heard.” Seele forced himself to move out of his fighter’s posture, allowing tense muscles to relax. Just in case the man saw this as a sign of weakness he summoned more dark energy, preparing to cast a spell if he came under attack. “There is a man I am tracking, a man who has done great injustices to this city. He is taking advantage of the razing of the city to establish a foothold for illegitimate dealings.” The lies came easily to Seele’s lips as he spoke, his words completely amiable. Every undercurrent of malice or anger from earlier was completely gone, replaced with friendliness and a touch of desperation. “The guards are under his sway, and I fear that by myself I will be unable to stop his plans…”

Seele took a step forward, making sure to keep his hands visible and open to show he was not a threat. “He knows my face… But I had heard you helped maintain the status quo. I need someone like you to help me.” The shadow sorcerer smiled with completely feigned sincerity, still prepared to defend himself if necessary. He was prepared to cast an Enervation spell at the slightest provocation.

Boros relaxed, standing normally as he leans against the wall once more, "I maintain balance, I correct the status quo, and you say a man is doing something illegal and you want my help to stop him..." He wondered about this, it was convenient that he needed business with him, but as his father said, 'leave no stone unturned.' He really didn't have much of a choice, if the man turned out to be lying he'd break him and leave him to fix himself, possibly restoring his balance or forcing him to take revenge upon him, either way he'd fix something that was unbalanced tonight.

Boros looked into the night, it was pretty late but his mind and body didn't require sleep at the moment, it was definitely safe to accompany the man on his mission. "Lets say I believe you and wish to help, where do we go and who are we going after?" If he knew who he was fighting against he could make plans to destroy the enemy before they got to him, planning was needed, then again this new acquaintance could already have one. If he did he had no doubt he would tell it to him, if he didn't, he'd make his own battle plan to carry out.

Seele somehow managed to keep his lips from curving up into a victorious smile. Whoever this stranger was, he seemed rather simple-minded. Too focused on one concept to be of much use to anything or anyone else… Except me. Still, the elf had not yet decided how best to utilize this new game piece. “His name is Mikel… I had heard he would be at The Dancing Demon tonight, and my source was correct.” Still talking with his pseudo-friendly intonation, Seele quickly walked over to the mouth of the alleyway. His eyes flickered over the street. Enough rubble had been removed from the major walkways to allow for pedestrians to easily navigate the most populous sections of the fallen metropolis. Although the city was deserted compared to how it had been before, enough citizens and workers had returned to Taras to make the streets crowded during the day. Thankfully, it was now approaching dusk, and most of the refugees hid indoors at night to avoid the cutthroats and muggers that had also returned to the city. Seele quickly picked out the man’s broad back, his armor gleaming dully in the scattered torches hanging from the walls.

“Unfortunately, that brawl allowed him to escape my sight… But not for long.” Seele gestured to the man, beckoning him to join him at the alley’s exit. “He’s well connected in town, but I believe he’s meeting with his most important associates tonight. If you want to help, we would need to follow him now…” Seele looked at the man for a moment, silently wondering if had made the right choice. Killing the stranger would have been much faster and easier, but Seele didn’t know how long he could maintain this charade. He only had a basic understanding of this man’s motivations, and saying the wrong thing could easily make an enemy out of this tentative ally. Once more he contemplated simply murdering the man here and now, but he managed to suppress that urge.

“My plan for tonight was fairly simple… Follow him until we can strike.” Seele pointed out Mikel in the thinning crowd. The burly human was reaching an intersection, and the elf was growing worried that they would lose him soon if he could not convince the glowing-eyed stranger quickly. “If you could somehow follow him through the crowd, I would be able to use you in order to locate him. Getting to close to him myself could make him paranoid, and we’d lose our chance to further… investigate his business.” Seele flashed a confident smile at the other man. “Of course, I should probably introduce myself. You can call me Gehrin.” It wasn’t a complete lie; Gehrin had been the name of the Kyton demon that Seele had hosted for many years. It was much safer than sharing his real name. People tended to remember the name of the former God of Darkness, even if they couldn’t identify his face.

Boros looked at the man, his eyes stopped glowing, revealing the green markings over his brown eyes, powerful sealing runes inscribed directly into the eyes. "I'll follow and listen, I can promise nothing more then that, I'll decide my own actions when the time comes." He had to think about this... something about the man made him cautious. He quickly turned to look at the man walking away, he started after him, walking towards him. "I suggest we hurry then, oh, I am Ouroboros the Seer, most call me Boros or Seer, either is fine." His name didn't mean anything special, he was a seer without a seeing device, though usually just saying he was a seer was more then enough to make people cautious, soon he would see what this Gehrin would gain from this venture.

"What exactly do you think he's doing Gehrin, if you could give me some more details perhaps I could come to my conclusion sooner." He hoped Gehrin would tell him the truth, he wasn't a powerful seer and with these runes on his eyes he couldn't get any visions. He would have to trust his gut and follow what Gehrin said with much caution, he didn't know the man, but if he turned out to be a good and balanced man, he would welcome him as a friend, little did Gehrin know, you already had the scales in your mind, checking to see if he's a balanced individual.

(OOC: I’m going to assume that having a Master ranking in Knowledge: Arcana would be sufficient for Seele to at least guess at the nature of the runes. If that bothers you, let me know and I can change this post…)

Seele mentally catalogued the runes that seemed etched into the man’s irises. Even without knowledge of the exact nature of the runes, he could sense their elegance and power simply by glancing at them. Something in the shape of the glyph reminded the elf of the seal he had once used to suppress his own cursed vision, which suggested the symbols probably served a similar purpose in the odd human. This might be worth further inquiry at a later date… Seele made sure to keep his face blank. It wouldn’t do to let this man know too much about the elf’s true abilities or motives. If he believed Seele to merely be a competent fighter with a score to settle, that would work out best for everyone.

Well, for Seele, anyway. No one else really mattered to the sorcerer.

Seele followed the self-claimed seer, still keeping his voice friendly. “It’s a pleasure, Boros. And I can tell you as much as I know…” Seele followed Mikel with his eyes s he spoke, making sure they didn’t lose the man during their conversation. He had already decided to tell the seer part of the truth in order to make the story easier to back up if the man possessed doubts. “Mikel has used treachery and his illegitimate business connections to take over a large section of the rebuilding project. The workers are basically slaves, kept in line through the fear of retribution from the man himself or his hired beaters. The area had initially been scheduled to be made into housing for refugees to help repopulate the city, but now…”

Seele had lied about that last sentence, of course. So far as he could tell from his research, there was no definite, cohesive plan for the rebuilding of Taras. Instead, a number of wealthy and elusive benefactors had begun to carve their own personal empires in the crumbled metropolis. Some of them had started humanitarian projects similar to the tale he was constructing, but the area around the former arena had been up for grabs. Seele was hoping that the perceived injustice would further persuade Boros to aid the sorcerer. “He plans to create seedy establishments to further his own profits and further squeeze money out of the destitute. Gambling dens and houses of ill repute and burglar hideouts… businesses that will cripple the rebuilding efforts and make the area dangerous to inhabit.” This was also a bit of a stretch; Seele had no idea what Mikel and his mysterious employer planned for their construction area, but their secrecy spoke volumes about their intentions. Mikel nor his cloaked companion had noticed the tail yet, walking along a winding road into a section of the city that had already been rebuilt, for the most part.

Boros nodded as he walked, the crisp night air kept him cool, his mind was once more in balance, he thought about the information quickly, if it was true then this man needed to be stopped, "I'll help you take him down, I refuse to let him encourage imbalance." His eyes looked straight at the man's back, he watched him turn the corner he slowed his walk more so, he needed to let the man gain a bit of ground, make it seem like they were following him. He peeked around the corner, the man still hadn't looked back, why was that, most people under shady business would be a bit nervous... maybe he was a veteran fighter and feared no attack, or perhaps he didn't care... either way Boros would stop him.

He followed the man until he saw him enter a rather odd looking mansion, most of the walls had odd patches of melted rock to fill in the holes, obviously the same kind of repair job as the tavern, though this job seems much cruder, some parts of the house are burnt and in disrepair. "Should we go in and attack, or stay low and wait for them to leave, or maybe sneak in and listen?" He personally wanted to listen in on them, it would give them more insight... but killing them now would end their operations that much faster, and waiting... well nothing happens then besides cold feet.

Seele made note of the fact that Boros had mentioned his precious balance in almost every sentence. A man with only one motivation in life is a man who is easy to manipulate. Seele let the seer take the lead when they stopped at the corner so that he could allow himself a smug smile before putting his amiable mask back in place. The seer peered around the corner, and when he motioned that the way was clear, the two continued. This pattern continued for several more streets before Mikel and his friend entered a large dwelling, opulent in comparison the surrounding hovels and slums.

Seele ignored Boros’ words for a moment as he watched the complex warily. Although the two men had entered without being challenged, he doubted that such a mansion would be left unguarded. Otherwise it would be a target ripe for thieves. The elf’s sharp eyes scoured the walls of the building. Due to the impending night, it was already more difficult to observe the building from this distance. Seele closed his eyes for a moment, gathering magical power. Ebon Eyes. When he opened them again there was a spark of black energy coursing through his golden irises. With the spell in place, the sorcerer could see through the gloom as if it was as bright as day. With his enhanced vision, Seele could see at least five guards present. Two stood near the entrance of the mansion, their dark garb melting in perfectly with the shadows. Three more were barely visible on the wall that encircled the large building, diligently watching the streets below.

Seele frowned slightly. “There are two guards on the street… and at least three on the walls. We need to incapacitate them before we can follow Mikel. I’d prefer to sneak in and listen to his plans, maybe uncover other conspirators… But the hired help will need to go first.” Seele looked at the seer, biting his lower lip in fake contemplation. He had already determined the best course of action, but he didn’t want Boros thinking that he was more versed in strategizing than usual. “I can get on the adjacent rooftops and take out the guards above, if you’re confident in eliminating the two at the main gate…” Seele didn’t wait for confirmation of his plan, instead moving to the nearest building. Little more than a shack, its pitted stones and hastily nailed planks made for an easy climbing surface. The elf easily scaled the building, balancing easily on top of the wreck. He looked over his shoulder, whispering to the man below. “I’ll strike when you attack the guards. Try to stop them before they can sound an alarm.”

Seele began to creep across the rooftops, using his enchanted vision to avoid any holes or gaps in the roofs. As he got closer he knew the chances of being detected grew exponentially. Seele stopped behind a crooked chimney, once more calling on his dark gift. Cloak of Darkness. His own shadow writhed for a moment before it crawled up Seele’s legs. The encroaching darkness wrapped around his entire body, making him a darker blur in the black night. With the spell further masking his presence, he crept across the roofs towards the mansion. The wall was only eight feet tall, but compared to the dilapidated surroundings, it was still a formidable defense. Even with his enhanced eyesight, Seele could only see the three guards standing watch above. The elf silently drew his two enchanted daggers, the cloak of darkness spreading to hide their blades from sight. As soon as Boros struck out at the door guards, Seele would strike with steel and sorcery.

Boros nodded, he walked close to the side of the street that had the mansion, he looked at the guards, they didn't seem to care about his presence... that's when he struck, he quickly turned to them, hopping forward with his fist out, landing it perfectly in the throat of one of them, the other one opened his mouth and started to draw a blade, but all he could do was double over in pain as Boros slammed his elbow into his stomach followed by a rapid succession of jabs to the man's head, he looked at the one on the ground gasping for air, he raised his foot and did a quick axe kick straight down on the man's head, blood seeped through a new wound. Boros didn't care, one was knocked out the other was dying, his job was done.

He didn't look up to see if his friend had done the same, he didn't here any shouting, meaning he was probably successful. He cracked open the door, putting his ear to it, he could barely hear them, but it was to muffled. He slowly opened the door, staying low he quietly walked down a long hallway, a single long red rug took up most of the hallway, he didn't know what type of rug it was, but it was fancy. He slid along the wall until he came to some steps leading up, that was where the voices were coming from, he'd wait here for his ally. He looked back at the door, keeping an eye out for him.

As soon as Seele saw the seer move towards the guards on the ground he struck as well. Unfolding from his hiding spot, the elf let the Cloak of Darkness spell fade away as landed lightly on the parapet. One guard stood just over the gate, while the other two each stood on one of the corners of the barricade. Seele sprinted for the middle guard, eyes flashing with a manic burst of pleasure. Just because the shadow sorcerer’s mind was free from the insanity-inducing hold of a demon did not mean his joy of killing had subsided. And here, almost completely hidden from the preoccupied seer, Seele could truly let himself go. The guard had begun to turn towards the noise when Seele landed, but clearly hadn’t anticipated the elf’s almost supernatural speed. Seele leapt out of his sprint, deftly spinning in mid-air to avoid the guard’s spear thrust. Seele dragged Muginn across the guard’s throat as he hooked one leg behind the man’s knees. He stabbed the second blade deep into the man’s chest, using brute strength and his momentum to piece the leather tabard. Blood bubbled from the man’s mouth as he fell to his knees, the spear dropping from limp fingers as he clawed at his split throat. Seele withdrew the blade from his chest with a sharp jerk, allowing the man’s blood to spurt across the wall. Return to the darkness, vermin… You shall have company soon…

If the other two guards hadn’t heard him already, they had surely been alerted by the thud of the falling corpse. Seele’s grin remained fixed on his features as he threw his hands out to either side, mentally initiating the enchantment on his daggers. Huginn and Muginn, take flight… The two fighting blades floated out of Seele’s hands to slowly orbit around his , leaving his hands empty. With his open palms facing the remaining guards, the elf reached out to yet another weapon in his arsenal. With a rustle of moving metal a dark chain shot from each of his open sleeves. Once, the chains’ movements had been fueled by his pact with a Kyton demon; now, Seele’s own dark power animated the weapons. The metal links whipped around the guard’s throats, digging into their flesh. Seele clenched his fists, mentally urging the chains to tighten and cut off their air before they could cry out and warn Mikel of his presence. With a magical and physical exertion he drew his arms back, pulling the guards off of their feet.

As they were yanked towards Seele his eyes flickered to the floating fighting knives. The blades responded instantly, shooting towards the hurtling men. Huginn buried itself hilt-deep in the throat of the first guard, killing him instantly. Muginn missed its mark, instead sinking into the man’s shoulder. Seele grimaced at the inaccuracy; he was in no position to dodge efficiently, and the guard had somehow managed to keep focused on his opponent despite the situation. The elf jerked his head backwards as the man swung his sword wildly, managed to score a gash across the sorcerer’s shoulder. Before the man could strike again Seele twisted his hand in a harsh gesture; the chain around the man’s neck responded in kind, instantly breaking the man’s neck. The elf winced at the loud Crack! that accompanied the execution, but he doubted the noise was audible in the house. Seele laid the two bodies down on the walkway gently, making sure they would not fall from the perch. The chains softly wrapped around his forearms once more, the links clinking together as they settled in place. The fighting knives pulled themselves out of the corpses, returning to his open hands.

With a lithe grace the elf stepped off of the wall, nimbly landing near the guards the seer had incapacitated. Seele examined the man’s work with a critical eye, deciding that one man was already dead, while the other was merely knocked out. He remedied that problem by slipping Muginn between the man’s ribs, jerking the blade sideways to sever his aorta and kill him instantly. That chore finished, the elf wiped the blood from his blades on the guard’s uniforms before he followed Boros into the mansion. The conveniently-placed rug muffled his footsteps as Seele approached the seer. Seele did not speak, knowing silence was needed for their quest to succeed.

As the two approached the staircase, the murmured conversation just barely became audible. Two men were obviously conversing, but only snippets from their words could be understood. Seele could identify one man as Mikel, although he had no idea who the other was.

“…construction is on schedule, but… throats slit, and one worker...”

“… worrisome. Has the culprit …”

“No… looking. The beaters are keeping… in line…”

“… will inform the Lord… progress.”

“…you. Please remind him… the deal.”

Seele mentally cursed. The cloaked man was clearly just another intermediary between Mikel and the true benefactor in charge of the project. The elf tapped Boros’ shoulder and pointed up the stairs, hinting that they should get closer to the conversation. He needed to identify the cloaked man before he disappeared into the ruins.
