Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Vyse chuckled, he couldn't help but love this inn, nice waitresses, good music, and usually friendly patrons. "I'm glad you like the place, while its true they wear... flashy clothing to say the least, at least they're good people." He thought for a few moments before speaking again, mostly of why she was here in Cascadia. "Why did you come to Cascadia, you lookin' for someone or something? If ya are I know a few sources that could get you some information, in exchange for something interesting," He thought of his contact Ratterung, who traded information for information, anything new to him was like a small treasure.

"Though if ya don't want to tell me ya don't have to, forcing people to talk isn't something I like to do." He scratched the back of his head, he could feel his muddy thoughts becoming clear again, maybe once that pie comes back he could eat some and sober up a bit. "Ah, one moment," he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a few coins, calling a waitress over to bring them some water. He waited for the waitress to come back, the water would help out while the pie is being cooked up, now all he can do is wait and listen to what Soko has to say.

Vyse asked her for information about why she was here, and offered an information trade. The suggestion made her slightly unsettled, as any information she had to sell was no information she wanted to buy.

"I'd prefer not to say," Soko answered. She took a sip of the freshly delivered water. It was clean and pure, unlike water in other parts of the south. She thought for a moment, clasping her chin in clawed hands.

"So the water in this city must be magical if it continues to flow out and fall, correct? I wonder if they cracked open a portal to the elemental plane of water beneath Cascadia. Seems like it could be potentially dangerous to me," Winter mused. The singing girl finished her first song and followed it up with a much slower piece. Soko recognized none of it, of course. She sat back and thought for a while longer. The waiter reappeared, placing a fairly large pie on their table, and serving two plates alongside that. She ran a finger along her own white plate, marveling at the design and image of two songbirds raised slightly from the rest of the porcelain. She'd heard of such wondrous crafting, but had always eaten on clay or wooden plates. She glanced up at the pie, at the wafting steam and the smell of delicious meat. Her hands darted to her utensils and she immediately carved off a piece. The crust was light and flaky, the entire thing smooth and easy to slice. She lifted the slice out, dripping with meat and vegetable juices. She daintily plucked out a slightly large portion of beef and bit it in half.

"Delicious! The food here is pretty good," Soko praised. She proceeded to quickly, she hadn't managed to eaten lunch. She giggled to herself when she realized what she could have done with the Black Water brew if she'd had a full stomach. Winter wondered about her sleeping arrangements momentarily before realizing she could probably just sleep on his floor. It would save her some coin, even though she'd found that acting as a wandering magi had earned her tidy profits. Although, cutting back on rooming costs meant she could spend more in Cascadia itself, which pleased her immensely.

"I think I might grab a room here. Or sleep on the floor in your room, if you don't mind. 'Course, it'd send around an awfully vicious rumor that honorable Vyse Noclan was spending his nights with a succubus or some sort of demon-lady." Soko said, holding back more giggles.

Vyse chuckled at the thought of such rumors, "Honorable isn't a word usually associated with me, but sure, you can sleep in my room." His stomach growled quite loudly, he chuckled once more as he cut off a good sized piece of pie, eating it from his plate slowly. "I believe some people call me the Vyse the Berserker, makes me sound a bit like I'm an uncontrollable monster, though I prefer what my old master's title was, Sword Saint. He was a great man, a great swordsman and a pretty good spellweaver." He smiled, having a short reminiscing of his younger days of training with his master.

After a piece of pie had disappeared from his plate, he started to concentrate on the song, his finger tapping out the slow pace, his head slowly bobbing, "I remember this song from when my parents tried made my master teach me how to dance, they said 'Any young boy meant to take over our name must be a great man of knowledge and cultural wealth.'" He smirked at the thought of actually being a noble like his father was, what a joke. "My Master made me memorize a swordsdance to this song, it helped me remember the steps to slow dancing... last time I did that my father was trying to get me to court some noblewoman... she had a nasty temper and a rapier wit... not to mention the rapier she used to give me a pretty long scar on my back." He could feel the flow from the song, it was intoxicating, he started to hum it softly as he cut into a second piece of pie.

Soko wanted to make a joke about bad ex-girlfriends, but determined that it was in bad taste. Vyse had a rough life and she didn't want to risk jokes that raised his hackles; he was nice.

"I can do a few dances, but none of them are very interesting. Mostly ritual stuff," Soko said. She slowly devoured the pie with Vyse's help, and eventually she was lead up to his room. She gave him an odd look and immediately flopped onto the floor and curled up, asleep.

Footsteps awoke her, eyes flickering open to a sliver of light. A door opening. She jolted awake, throwing herself to her feet.

"Vyse." Soko stated. She adjusted and tugged on her clothing, making sure it was as pristine as it could be.

"If you are going somewhere, you should take me along. I'm a mage," Winter said. She had taken a guess at what he was up to, considering his shouted title and quick resort to violence. It would probably help to have someone with a cool head and ice in their veins.

Vyse looked back at Soko, he didn't want to show her his work... it was dark and bloody, something she shouldn't be part of. "I won't stop you from following me... but I won't be able to protect you if we get caught in a fight, remember, cast to kill, these men are willing to do much worse to us both." He remembered the weeks of tracking down people who are peddling the horrible creation his father funded. "We should walk and talk, we should meet my contact, he's an oddball information broker. Before we meet him I'll give you the details of what my job tonight is." He swallowed his fear, only a few of his friends knew what he really did, the others were blissfully unaware.

"My father, Drachma the Black, funded necromancers and alchemists to create a pill... that looks like a piece of red candy, if its taken once or twice little changes besides a temporary boost in strength... but if that person dies with that pill still in their system, it will charge the body with necrotic energy, causing it to rise as a zombie... they're called Zombie Pills." He sighed, last time he explained this to someone he tried to steal the crate for profit, he ended that informant's life himself.

He slowly walked through the inn, looking around for assailants, you could never be to careful. "But lately, their experiments have gotten... sicker, they kidnap healthy men and women of any race, not to mention any kind of animal they deem useful. The long term exposure to the pills makes the person zombify... from the inside out, they die horrifically... and become ghasts or ghouls, the longer they stay alive while taking the pill the stronger the undead they become." He didn't look back to see her face, he'd seen all kinds of reactions.

After exiting the inn he made for the nearest alley, walking for several minutes, making sure to go slow enough that Soko could keep up. He walked on until they arrived in a particularly dark area in the alley, dust covering everything in the area, not a single foot print in the dust besides their own. "This is where we meet my informant... Ratterung, he'll be here once he collects the fee I left for him..." His eyes were sharp, he took notice of every little thing in the alley, from the broken crates to a few smears of red and green along the floor. Ratterung better get here soon, he wanted to end the smuggling quickly.

Thousand Night Winter was unconcerned about his warnings. She had already fought an entire zombie swarm, after all. The details were also not particularly awful, it was tough to shake up a shaman from one of the most intense climates on Imythess.

"Life and death situations, the normal for a northerner. The pills sound nasty, but eeeh magic is magic." Soko said. She was worried but it was not a crippling thing. Combat had always given her some anxiety, especially when she couldn't avoid danger simply by flying. She followed him down dark alleys. The city slowly lost its feeling of heavy population, drifting into the feel of an ancient, unused place. She found herself disturbing pristine dust, trotting down seemingly unused streets.

"Ratterung? Interesting name." Soko stated. She instantly didn't trust Ratterung or the situation. Information dealers bothered someone who was so upfront about their goals. She glanced about and kept her hands by her side.

"I'd prefer we get this over with quickly." The demon girl murmured. She was nervous. It was the threat of violence from any direction that did it. Even though Vyse was sure this was a secret meeting, Soko was never sure of such things. Her tribe had fallen prey to a secret meeting, and she never forgot the event. Nek'a thought it was so safe she could bring her apprentice, and how wrong she was.

Vyse could feel something in his very soul, as if he was being looked at by something beyond the mortal coil... that's when he smirked, Ratterung had arrived. "Vyses... you broughts friend again? Does friend play pretty musics, or perhaps she does other more interesting things." Ratterung's voice was disembodied, until a small man with wild piercing green eyes and a short scraggly beard stepped out of the darkness, his eyes almost had a glow about them. "Ratterung knows about your friend Vyses... my sources say her name is Sokos... or what you call her at least is Sokos... but I, we, us, digress, I has your payment, some hair of tiger and claw of dire... makes good knife for my lickle hand." Ratterung smiled, all but his two front teeth have fallen out, and a horrific smell escaped his toothless grin.

"Right Ratterung... please close your mouth, I can smell the fish, puke, and rancid meat you ate..." He really hoped he was wrong about his guesses, but knowing Ratterung... he was probably spot on. Ratterung snickers as he closes his mouth, "Its in the places where yous first met, I, we, us. Warehouse of a certain noble... good news to, your father Drachmas should be there, kill him good, yes? Lost to many informants to his nasty candy... zombies no can make payments or give I, we, us food..." He almost sounded sad... until he spewed forth his selfish reasons. He turned his back, saying one last piece of advice, "Do not dies tonight Vyses, you have many more interesting things that Ratterung wants... though if you do die, Ratterung will release Umbriel from pens, have her take much the revenges for you. Oh, and their backdoor... its unlocked." Once more he disappears into shadow.

Vyse once again looked around the area, making sure nothing was amiss... well besides Ratterung not leaving any footprints, or disturbing the dust whatsoever, that was normal for the informant. "It'll take us roughly thirty minutes if we walk, lets grab Umbriel, we'll be there in five," Vyse quickly made his way towards the stable, almost jogging. This job needed more speed then stealth. Quickly he opened Umbriel's door, the large cat opened her eyes and yawned, she almost looked grumpy until she saw Vyse's face, her ears perked up and she seemed to be awake in a matter of seconds. Sitting on Umbriel he offered a hand to Soko, today there would be blood.

Ratterung made the girl uncomfortable. Not his disgusting nature, but because of his position. He knew her name, and supposedly knew more of her. The thought made her want to do something to him, to silence him. She valued her privacy, and valued more that the location of her village remained a well kept secret. She'd have to become aware of what his angle was later.

"I'll fly, but you can ride Umbriel. I'd prefer not to ride in a skirt," Soko explained. Umbriel would also tire quicker with an extra person on her back, and Soko couldn't cast or fight on the back of a beast. If anything went wrong, she wanted to be in the air. Soko stepped out and spread her wings. Powerful beats brought her feet dangling from the ground, her body moving ever so slightly back and forth. She kept herself as centered as possible as she rose between the buildings, but she found herself drifting into a wall. She kicked into it and surged upwards, circling above Umbriel like a vulture. The cat took off and Soko followed, swooping low into the streets behind them. The streets ahead were packed with stalls, causing the demon girl to hurtle out and above the streets, eyes on Vyse. The city below looked much like the sky above. A thousand little lights filled her vision, some the bright sparks of torches, the dim glow of windows, or the warm light of the lanterns strung across streets. She dipped back down to keep track of Vyse, and then focused on him.

Minutes later they had arrived. Soko took a moment to cast a spell in the air. Her hands kept track of an invisible object as she spiraled around, runes of power frozen into the air momentarily. Her hands sprouted ice crystals which rapidly joined together and formed a wicked spear. The polygonal ice had formed a lengthy, jagged blade and a variety of other adornments. Soko dropped from the air and landed next to Vyse, her spear striking the ground with a noise much like glass.

"Lead on," Winter urged beneath her breath.

Vyse smirked, he could already feel his blood boiling, "I'll go through the front, talk to him, keep him distracted, I want you to go to the unlocked back door, get behind them and stay low, it'll be more useful to have a sneak attack ready to destroy their concentration, oh, and if he has any casters there, please take them out." He didn't wait for a response, he had done this dozens of times, he road forth on Umbriel, this would be the first time they would fight together as one being, this fight would bring him closure and finally he would no longer have to look over his shoulder and expect to see one of his father's minions stabbing at him.

He motioned for Soko to circle as Umbriel stalked towards the door. He urged Umbriel to slow a bit, just to give time for Soko to go around. He looked back, not seeing her he urged Umbriel forward as he draws his swords from their sheathes. Umbriel's paw slams against the door, crushing it inward, the bulk of the dire tiger barely gets through, the deadly claws and fangs were bared at the smugglers, who dropped what they were doing to draw whatever weapons they had lying around. Vyse could see a man in a black tunic and long white hair, along with an eye patch over his left eye, it was his father, Drachma the black. "Well it looks like the search is over, eh dad? After all, we've been hunting each other for monthes, I've been killing your men, stopping your horrible pills from be distributed, and now I'm going to stop this last shipment and end your life!" His rage at the very sight of his father was almost enough to make him fall into his bloodwrath, it took every ounce of his mental strength to keep a clear mind.

The man known as Drachma laughs, "Vyse my son, I do think you've been mistaken, these pills are just a precursor to a much more valiant cure, soon I will be able to bring back your mother, even your master if you join us, we need your strong sword and your beast. Think of all the good we could do, we could bring back all the people who we lost to disease and murder! We would be better then gods! We could do so much more, we just need to run more tests, for example, one of my spies says you're courting a little demon girl, I know you don't have the best taste in women, but you should really think of our reputation son." He smiled, though his eyes burned with unsaid anger, anger at the world that took away his wife, and anger that drove his son to follow his murdering teacher instead of his own loving father.

"Old man... this is the last time we meet, I swear, I'll send you to whatever hell mom is in... rest in peace old man." He felt pity for his father, but he needed to die, he let his rage consume him, his father was being misguided, mislead by someone, and you would find out after this fight. With a roar of fury he and Umbriel rushed to them, swords and paws swinging. He could feel his bloodwrath take over, his battlecry came forth, "None can kill the Noclan!" He felt blood splash across his face from an enemies wounded throat, he didn't care, though his visage was probably one of rage and destruction, he felt nothing, his blades arced, stabbed, slashed, taking out in tiny weakness in a man's stance, even if it wasn't fatal.

Soko rushed around the building, holding her ice spear close. She turned the corner sharply, dropping the spear into a charging position. She bolted towards the door and yanked it. It moved, thankfully, and thankfully it had been freshly oiled. Her entry went unnoticed. This section of the building was dark, with only an old torch lighting the environment. Boxes cast lengthy shadows in the flickering light. Unaware of the drama outside, pried one open with the edge of her ice spear. She slid her spare hand into the crack and hefted the cover off, staring at a pile of small bags. With a careful hand she picked one up and loosened its ties, holding her ice spear with the crook of her elbow. Within were tiny little oblong shapes, no doubt the fabled zombie pills. The shaman jammed the little bag down her top. She lifted the torch from its holder and casually tossed it into the crate she had opened. Fire sprouted from the opening, tendrils of flame searching across the ceiling in moments. Soko cursed and kicked down the door. Vyse was spinning about, murdering people. It seemed all rather casual, other than the gouts of blood striking the floor. She hurled her ice spear into the mess. The polearm spun and clattered into the mess, water spiraling off of it.

Without missing a beat she began casting. One of the men struck by the now-melted spear turned and threw himself at her. She worked quickly, chanting over the clatter of blades and screams. Both of her hands worked together, fingers coiling and shaping energy. Cold air snapped into the room, flash-freezing parts of Winter's garb. Her fingers had spread apart like there was something separating them when there was nothing there before. The man charging her raised his blade and Winter flicked her wrist towards him. The orb snapped into existence, freezing the air around it and solidifying in the short distance between herself and the charging man. It struck him in the gut, the slight impact raising him off his feet. His footing lost he smashed into the floor. Soko stepped over him, knowing he would be unlikely to stand while he was panicking about possibly frozen innards. Another man twisted away to deal with the threat on their flank, but was struck down by another orb.

Soko flicked a small frosted layer off one of her horns with a slight smile.

"Vyse, we should finish this quickly." She shouted. She began to speak again when light burst from behind her and heat washed into the room. A quick look over her shoulder revealed the back room's wall had collapsed, revealing the zombie pill inferno.

Vyse couldn't see anything but red, fighting towards his father, even Umbriel had gone berserk from all the blood. Their roar of defiance as they moved towards Drachma echoed around the room. "Faaaaatherrrrr!" He roared as he made his way towards him. "You die today! Kill them all Umbriel! Get revenge for the cubs they killed! Revenge for what these people did to both of our families!" All of his hatred and anger spilled forth, his blades reaping death everywhere they swung, but more and more people seemed to come from adjacent rooms. He didn't even notice the crossbowmen lining up shots around him. All he felt was rage.

Umbriel sensed the danger, and with a roar she clubbed a man with her paw, sending him into his allies as she turned to run out the door she smashed open, she could smell fire and it frightened her, she did not want to get caught in the inferno, and she knew Vyse wouldn't leave her back. "Leaving so soon with your woman boy? Well no matter, I picked up a few tricks myself, and next time we'll show you our new and improved zombie pill." Drachma smirked, taking out a necklace that was hidden under his shirt, throwing it on the ground, the shattering of glass rings through the room as he disappears.

Umbriel runs out the door, Vyse screaming profanities and telling her to turn back, his rage would not be quenched from his warehouse burning, he needed to kill his father and everything he stood for, that's when he saw the flames licking the entire back half of the warehouse, his bloodwrath fading from the lack of enemies and no scent of blood besides what he had on his blades and Umbriel's claws. "I was so close! So close! I shouldn't have given him a chance to talk, I should have charged him even if I got stabbed a few times while I did it..." He felt distraught, it was his first truly failed operation, he knew now he'd have to disappear for a while, he needed to get everything in order before coming back here.

He looked at Soko, "Thanks for helping me... you can use my room for the rest of the night... I'm leaving town, I need to retreat, next time we meet... lets drink again and storm another warehouse?" He tried to smile, he didn't want what was probably her last memory of him to be on the verge of tears. "So keep safe until my next mission, ya got me?" Umbriel slowly starts to walk away, Vyse was tired, he knew Soko could easily keep pace at Umbriel's pace, this was mostly to keep Vyse from falling off if he fell asleep.

Vyse needed a little calming down, she suspected. The demon girl stepped back and watched the carnage, fearing to use her spells as she might hit Vyse. The big cat began to panic, probably because of the fire Soko had started. She somewhat regretted the situation now, but it was dragging Vyse out of his rage and out of the building. She darted after him, crossbow bolts sinking into the floor around her as she went. A flash of pain and she stumbled, but managed to make it out of the door. Soko kicked it closed, her own blood spattering across the ground as she did so.

"Vyse, next time you have to enter into a fight like that, you have to be more careful. Fighting isn't a joke." She rasped. Her hand had finally worked up the courage to check on the bolt embedded in her side. Bloody, but most it luckily hadn't gone deep. The shaman ripped it out, growling as she did, leaving more blood on the ground. She planted her hand on her side and chanted. The bleeding stopped, and when she removed her hand the wound was clotted over.

"I'll happily drink with you again - storming warehouses isn't my thing to be honest." Soko said. The humor and smiles had left with her blood, she couldn't quite raise the will to do either. She held out her unbloodied hand and summoned another spear of ice into it. The demon girl began hobbling away, fearing a flight would rip open her wound again.

"Can't believe his daddy said I was his girlfriend." Soko muttered as she limped down the road. It had been a crazy day. She stumbled out into a main road, limping, injured, and beneath the dozens of little lights. Cascadia was a nice city.
