We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Vyse's speaking of potentially-under opponents didn't faze Logan in the slightest. Drawing back his cloak and longcoat, Logan showed the hilt of Thrae to the guardsman, glowing with its celestial light. Giving the sword a pat, Logan said, "My blade, Thrae, is more than capable of dealing with undead and other such creatures of Necromancy. She was forged, blessed, and enchanted by Elven smiths many thousands of years ago, and the sword has been passed down my family line since."

The two men continued onward. Once they were clear of the camp, Logan took a quick glance back as he pulled out his pipe and began placing tobacco in the cup, disguising his glance backward as reaching for his pipe and tobacco pouch. He counted somewhere around six men in azure cloaks and chainmail following him and Vyse, with no others joining them from the camp.

"Six o'clock," the ranger grunted to Vyse, his grunting muffled by his lips being clasped around the stem of his pipe, "Six men in blue cloaks and chainmail. Your father's men, by chance? I don't see that leader with the scar with them, though. A pity, we might've been able to uproot the whole operation right here."

Vyse turned around, he could instantly see the small pins at their shoulders, helping to keep their cloaks on, "That's them..." Vyse walks on, following Peacemaker until they arrive in the clearing, it had been a while, he wondered if they were still being followed. He turned around and still he sees the men just entering the clearing. Vyse slowly draws his blades, he could feel his anger overwhelming his senses, he just wanted to leap into them, cutting them apart while shouting his battle cry. "I suggest you tell us what we want to know... so get talking or I'm going to get deadly..." This wasn't really his style, he tended to just slaughter them where they stand regardless of who they were.

He heard the men laugh as they started to draw their own blades, one called out, "What can an old man and a young pup do to seasoned veterans?" the men slowly moved forward, swords out shields up. "Well, I think it's time for my secret weapon. Come out, Umbriel!" Sticking his longsword in the ground he snapped his fingers, a large dire tiger quickly leaps out of the woods behind them, easily swatting one of them to the ground as she tackles another, trying to get at the man's neck as her paw crushes his sword arm, but that pesky shield is getting in her way.

"Two for each of us Peacemaker, lets make short work of them!" Vyse rushed two of them that were starting after his pet, he easily got in between them, they didn't want to get to close, it was a one thousand pound killing machine... they were probably going to try stabbing her while she was busy pawing at that shield. "None shall kill the Noclan!" His blades strike out, bashing their weapons aside as he works his art, his blades striking out, easily being parried by his foes.

"You're good... but I'm faster." That's all he needed to say, his blades started to work faster, his blades barely even touched his foe's shields and swords, arcing, slashing, thrusting, it was all perfectly time, as long as he wouldn't get wounded his blades would flow like a river, going faster and faster until it becomes rapids. His blades started to flicker as he slashed away, now was his time, he quickly switched the flow of his blades, switching directions and opponents as he steps forward, spinning around, his blades slashing high and then low as he moves past them. Blood covered his blades as he looked back at his foes, each had four cuts on them, two slashes at the neck and two at the legs, if they weren't dead they were definitely crippled. He turned to see how his friend Peacemaker had faired against his own foes.

The Ranger was not pleased that Vyse jumped the gun and engaged the cloaked men following them before he could possibly take reconnaissance and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. He also attacked them well before Logan could possibly set up a trap that would give them a clear advantage, as they were outnumbered even with his powerful tiger-companion. After years of reclusive hermitage, Logan's skill with the blade was still rusty after the years of inactivity, and thus he'd preferred a minimal amount of having to use Thrae in this fight, a preference sadly negated by Vyse wanting to fight as soon as he could.

"Impetuous fool," growled Logan as he tapped his pipe to rid it of the tobacco and stuck it in his pocket, "We could have set a trap, gained the upper hand without having to resort to you attacking them with a beast!" Rolling his eyes, Logan drew Thrae just as the two other men not engaged with Vyse and his tiger moved within striking range. Gripping the hem of his longcoat with his off-hand, Logan lightly stepped backward, his bastard sword held at an angle to his side, in order to keep himself from having to directly engage the men wearing their mail and wielding broadswords.

Though the Ranger held the advantage in range, his hand-and-a-half far outstripping their shorter broadswords, he would have to precisely strike them in the right areas lest their chainmail render his attacks into strong bruises as opposed to killing strokes. When one of the men tried to mimic Logan's light steps and lunged forward, Logan whipped the tail of his longcoat up and wrapped the thick dragonscale leather around his sword, gripping it with his hand to prevent the man from recovering. Within three movements, Logan thrust Thrae straight through his chest and out the back before pivoting with his momentum and releasing the broadsword, withdrawing Thrae from the man's body and righting himself for the second, who took this opportunity to bear down on Logan before he could prepare.

The Ranger took initiative, stepping into the man's running stance and tripping him while reaching out and grabbing the man's swordhand with his off-hand. Wrenching the man's arm, Logan caused the guardsman's wrist to break, dropping his broadsword, before the man's forward momentum caused him to basically fall straight onto Thrae's point, the sword bursting out his back and killing him instantly. He rolled onto the ground, blood pooling almost immediately as Logan seized Thrae's hilt with both hands and wrenched it free of his body. The bloody sword seemed to glisten in the setting sunlight as the Ranger took scope of how Vyse and his tiger were faring.

Vyse swiftly moved over to Umbriel, nudging her so she stops trying to bite the partially broken man, she was trying to kill by chewing threw his armor, "That's a good girl Umbriel... yes, a good girl. You got us our little bird that will tell us everything we want to know." He smiled as Umbriel licked her chops and yawned, her giant fangs showing to the man pinned to the ground. Vyse could see the guardsman already sweating bullets, so weak, but this would work to his advantage.

"Now... tell us everything you know about my father's operation here... or else Umbriel here goes back into making you a tasty tigress snack," Umbriel's ears perked up by the mentioning of her name and the word 'snack' her fangs were brought to bare as she looked at him, her mouth opening to start taking a chunk out of him. He started to babble out a bunch of information, Vyse quickly took out his journal and ink bottle, writing a few things down from what little ink he had left. The man's rambling quickly became very useful, a list of people under Drachma's thumb, why they had been stealing the goods, and best of all... where everything was stored, "The stuff that doesn't rot are in locked chests, buried behind the jail! The food and perishables are all scattered through out the our guard tents so that it would be spread out and hard to spot! Now please get your damn beast off of me!" His fear was quite obvious, after all, Umbriel was a hungry Dire Tigress and he was tasty meat, though Vyse would never dream of it, he made her hunt for her food.

"Good girl Umbriel, now get off the nice man," he nudges her off, she walks a few paces before laying down, her massive bulk only feet away from the man. "Looks like we've got all the information we need, a list of guards working for my father, the locations of the food and the other supplies that went missing, should we go to the captain with our finds or should we go after the supplies, just in case someone tries hauling off with them before the captain can get to them?" Vyse personally wanted to tell the captain right away, that was the easiest way to get permission to start fighting and reclaiming the supplies and food.

"No," Logan said simply, stooping and shuffling through the dead soldiers and mercenaries, searching for any clues or possible valuables that he could use for later. Finding nothing but small pouched of gold coins, Logan rose and walked over to the captured guardsman, Thrae still bloodied from the other two slain men. Placing the sword's point at the man's neck, Logan damn near cut the simpering man's throat, as he was a witness who could possibly tip off their enemies.

"I should kill you now, oathbreaker," the Ranger snarled, Thrae's blade now glowing with inner Holy Light, "For you have betrayed the people that you were sworn to protect and serve as a Guardsman of Taras. But you've caught me in a good mood, today. Go. Run. Pick up your sword and head into the forest, do not come back or look back, or I will kill you. Leave, and do not come back! Take your equipment, if you must, but I do not want to see you near the city of Taras, ruins or otherwise, ever again."

The man scrambled to his feet and took off at a run, his azure cloak billowing behind him. Once he was out of sight, Logan cleaned and sheathed Thrae before turning and began unclasping the men's chainmail hauberks adorned with the sigil of Taras. Pulling one dead man's chainmail shirt off, Logan shook it a few times to test the weight before pulling the man's blue cloak off, as well.

"We cannot inform the captain. Something's not right, here. Kenneth...he didn't strike me as a man who was in the guard prior to this period of desolation for the kingdom of Taras. No, he's not the man the bandits have in the guard, he's merely their leader who is in deep-cover in order to maintain contact. We need to find out who their contact in the guard corps is. For all we know, it could be your captain, himself. The only way to know for sure is to interrogate Lieutenant Kenneth himself, and to do that we'll need to get close to him. So take your pick of these dead men's armor and cloaks, because we'll need a disguise. We can stash our discarded clothes at my campsite back in camp, where they'll be safe until we've solved this mystery."

After folding and tossing aside his longcoat as well as his traveling cloak, Logan pulled off his tunic and slid the hauberk over his shirt before fixing the dead guard's city tabard over the shirt, masking his build and figure to prevent anyone from recognizing him. After pulling the blue cloak over his shoulders, Logan then affixed the badge the man had been wearing, apparently one identifying him as one of Vyse's father's men, onto the overcoat. Placing his longcoat and folded tunic into his traveling cloak, Logan tied the corners and picked the rather light load up and over his shoulder.

"Now, hurry up and get dressed," Logan said, in a rather uncharacteristically curt voice to confer the urgent nature of the situation. "Unless you'd rather not wear outfits associated with your hated father, in which case I COULD pretend that I'm one of these dead men who successfully captured you and hauled you in to Kenneth himself for questioning. But I'll have to bind and arrest you, first. Which will it be?"

Vyse disregards the idea of being arrested, being put in manacles and carted away was a bit much, he quickly took off his coat and sword belt, laying it to the side he slides the chain hauberk over his frame. He then puts on the tabard and pin, after that he quickly rolls the coat up and buckles on the sword belt. Donning a helm he walks towards Logan, "I'll have Umbriel go hunting then, she's probably hungry." He turned towards the tigress, licking her paws and yawning widely. "Go on Umbriel, shoo, go hunting." The tigress looks at her master and gets up, slowly walking into the woods.

"Alright, so now what, how are we going to get Kenneth out here alone or are we just going to meet him as if we're some of his men?" Vyse didn't know what exactly to do, his forte was fighting and looking for clues, he wasn't big on espionage, for obvious reasons he never needed to sneak around, he just went in swinging with Umbriel at his side, this new experience would be interesting to say the least. "Wait, better question, how are we going to meet the man that's going around as the in between for Kenneth and my father, there's very little chance that he'd tell us anything let alone show us who he exactly is." He felt it was a good question, there was little to no chance that they'd be told, how were they supposed to figure it out.

"We're going to pose as two of the guards from this party, go up to Kenneth, and inform him that we accomplished our mission," Logan growled in reply, rolling his eyes as he thought this would be rather obvious, "While our targets put up quite a fight, we were able to kill them both and were reporting our success. With luck, that might lead to Kenneth either asking to be taken to see the bodies or he might suggest that we meet up at their hideout, which is probably one of the places where they're stashing the goods, to discuss further plans. From there, you and I can attend this meeting and probably be able to rout the rest of the conspirators while we're at it."

"And if Kenneth," the ranger finished, "proves to be far too hesitant to aid us, then we'll...persuade him to give us the name of his contact in the guard." Logan flipped the hood of the blue cloak up over his head before motioning forward for them to proceed back into camp. When they'd arrived at Logan's campsite, the ranger tossed his cloak with his shirt and longcoat inside into his traveling pack that he'd secured in a strongbox he'd rented from the guard.

Vyse thought the plan was good enough, not to complex, but he was not that good at talking people into helping him, he was to straight forward for most deception. He probably knew where Kenneth was to, in that same tent that he visited before giving his report, the guard's drinking tent. He followed Peacemaker until they hit his camp, dropping off his clothes. He turned towards where the tent was, "He's probably in the same tent as before, it was full of his men so it would be the safest place for him to stay, and if he's not there we can search from there." He thought it was a good idea and lead the way.

It was only a couple of minutes of walking before they saw the tent, Vyse made sure to keep his helm slanted slightly forward, it was slightly to big for him, to shadow his eyes, anything to make him seem more like someone else. He walked in, seeing quite a few guards missing, only Kenneth and three others sat around a table while another four sat at the make shift bar. He walked up to Kenneth, saluting then began his lie, "We did it sir, that Vyse kid and whoever was walkin' with 'im have been killed. We left their bodies in tha' forest to be eaten by them wild animals, wolves and tha' like." Kenneth raised an eyebrow, mouth slowly twisted into a grin, "Good job boys, you two did good, that Vyse kid has been a thorn in our side since he got here, and the other... well he was a nuisance, killed a few of our men. Well then boys, it's time to meet up with the man who gave us our jobs, says he's got a new shipment for us, we'll do as we always do, dilute the zombie pills into the drinking water so we can distribute it all among the people, it takes quite a bit longer to take effect, but after the next dose we should see some results."

He quickly stands up, donning his helm as he motions for the men at the table to follow him. "Come on you two, you have to make that report to the boss," He moved quickly, Vyse followed behind the men, making sure to stay a good enough distance away that he could draw his blades and kill the first man before anything happened. Though Vyse found this all a little bit odd, the plan was going to well... did he know something they didn't, or could it be their ruse was seen through and now they were going to have to fight these four and who ever hired them. Well... all he could do was follow and deal with it when they arrive.

Logan was also suspicious that Kenneth would suddenly take him and Vyse straight to his boos in the Guard immediately after their report back. It was entirely possible that he was taking them into a trap and he'd already seen through their disguises. But then, how would the lieutenant be able to orchestrate a trap with the two of them with him? Consciously, Logan rested his left hand on the hilt of Thrae, which was hidden beneath his cloak, just in case.

"But sir," Logan said, dropping him voice a few pitches in order to keep Kenneth from recognizing his voice, "perhaps we should check on the loot, first? The people were mentioning some things about there being a treasure trove of goods and gold being sighted somewhere within the city, being carried by guys wearing our cloaks when I was on patrol earlier. Maybe we should arrange to move it before these rumors spread further and attract the attention of guards from other parts of the camp."

Logan's grip on Thrae's hilt tightened, in case Kenneth sprang to attack or called them on their disguises. His next response would dictate how Logan would act."

Kenneth stopped walking, he stroked his chin thoughtfully before speaking, "If anyone does go after our goods the guards I have stationed near them would report straight to me, I think they're pretty much safe... but if it makes you feel more at ease we can stop along the way, it'll only be a small detour." He resumed walking, changing direction slightly so they'd walk past the jail cells.

Vyse didn't see the harm, they'd know exactly where the goods were stashed. It didn't take long to get to the jail cells, he showed them the way to its back, where two guards are relaxing and playing some kind of card game. Kenneth smiled and walked up to one, back handing him, his voice rose in volume and became filled with anger, "You fools! I told you stay on guard at all times! Never, I repeat, never get distracted, stay vigilant!" His anger quickly subsided as the two men stood up, standing at attention, one of the nursing the wound he'd been given by his Lieutenant. Vyse didn't know what to do exactly, kill them all here and take the goods to the captain, or wait and try to get at their real leader... he was to used to instant results, he'd have to wait and see, yes, it would be best to take out the leader. Though his mind was made up he didn't know for sure about Peacemaker, his decision will either have them attack now and kill everyone here, or strike later and take care of the whole operation. He hoped Peacemaker kept the same thoughts as before, or else the whole mission would end in failure.

Logan's gambit had worked, and now he and Vyse would be able to isolate Kenneth from his commander and keep them from having to deal with two tough adversaries at the same time. He took Vyse and Logan past a local jailhouse to the back, a place out of sight of the other guardsmen and it was guarded by a paltry two guards. Logan now gripped the hilt of Thrae beneath his cloak with renewed vigor: surely the proper hiding place would have had more men surrounding it, unless the five Logan killed were the majority of the grunts in this conspiracy.

Two guards would be nothing for Logan and Vyse, and they both needed to take Kenneth alive if they were going to get to the bottom of this conspiracy. Beneath his cloak, Logan now moved his right hand over to Thrae's hilt and gripped it, preparing for first strike as he'd have to take the guards by surprise in order to even the odds. He would engage Kenneth himself in personal combat, something of a rematch from their earlier duel.

"So tell me, Kenneth," Logan growled, his voice now undisguised, "Who is the man betraying the Taras Guard to you?" With this, Logan sprang into an attack, unsheathing Thrae and then stabbing the closest guard through the chest before they could even react. After giving a firm kick in the belly to the other man, Logan then moved to confront Kenneth, who'd drawn his own longsword and was prepared for a fight. Unbuttoning the heavy azure cloak and dropping it to the ground, Logan was now just wearing the mail hauberk with the guards' tabard over it.

Kenneth lunged straight at Logan, their blades meeting with a clang as Logan caught the man's blade right before it pierced his chest. With luck, Vyse would have finished off the other guard by now, preventing him from interfering with the duel...

Vyse didn't even need to be signaled, as soon as he saw Peacemaker draw his blade he drew his own, dashing at the other guard. Quickly smacking aside his drawn blade, he immediately afterward continued his charge, slamming his shoulder into his chest, sending the guard down onto his back. He didn't waste a moment though, the guardsman grabbed his blade and held up his shield, blocking two quick slashes from Vyse's blades. He scrambled back onto his feet, swinging his shield out to try and catch Vyse off guard... it only served to open up his tight guard. Vyse easily dodged to the side of the shield, bringing his cutlass down into a quick slash across the man's face, splitting the nose clean in half as he brought his longsword into his chest, piercing the hauberk.

Vyse nodded in grim satisfaction, kicking him off his blade, he felt a small headache... the bloodwrath wanted freedom. He was lucky it wasn't to strong, he quickly shook his head as he turned to watch the duel between Kenneth and Peacemaker. Kenneth was shaken, he wasn't exactly prepared for this, there was no way these two men killed all of his soldiers, the only few he had left were patrolling and weren't do back until later, he'd have to defend himself this time.

Kenneth was a skilled opponent, but it was clear that he preferred letting his minions do his dirty work and not do things himself. Logan, while getting on in years, held the advantage in speed and maneuverability, never really relying on his strength as anyone can swing a sword as hard as they can. So, the Ranger dodged in and out, feinting to the left and right in order to wear Kenneth down to prepare him for the final blow.

When Kenneth made a crucial mistake, that being him committing too much into a power swipe that missed Logan by feet, the ranger pounced, slipping the blade of Thrae in between the hilt of the man's sword and his hand before slicing his palm clean open. The bandit leader screamed, dropping his sword as well as falling to his knees as blood began to gush forth from his palm. Logan placed the bloody tip of his sword at the man's chin and eased him up to make eye contact.

"You're not going to be leaving this place alive, Kenneth," Logan snarled, his voice dripping with venom, "but how about you tell me the name of your contact in the Guard and I'll make your passing painless? Otherwise...", with his free hand, Logan reached into a pouch at his belt and pulled out a pinch of salt, "I'll make your hand burn ten times as much as it is now!"

Kenneth immediately started to blurt out everything, "It's the captain! He's about twenty minutes west of here waiting with the supplies, he's standing next to some tree stumps from the trees we used to help fix up the guardhouse and the jail! You've killed all of our subordinates, just please let me live!" He slowly tried to back away, but Vyse wouldn't allow it, "I suggest you show us exactly, or else I'll do something much worse then grind some salt into the wound." His blades started slashed the air between his legs, "Get my point?" Vyse walked behind him, placing a blade against his throat as he moved him around to lead them towards the stumps, it was best to keep him alive, just in case he was lying.

He lead them to the deforested area, a few stumps had been pulled out, probably by the loggers, Vyse made sure to keep the blade against his throat, in the middle of the clearing was the captain, still in his full armor along with a large crate and two shadowy individuals, looks like they'd come to the right place. He sliced the man's throat as he took up his longsword, impaling him from behind, the man couldn't even let out the smallest gasp, just a bloody gurgle as he fell off the longsword. Vyse cleaned his blades on the man's tabard, looking over to Peacemaker, "Do we charge in now or keep our disguises on, get close, and kill them before they know what happens?" He preferred keeping the disguises on, the captain was old, sure, but he was skilled with an axe, not to mention the two shadowy figures could be anyone or anything, yes, the disguise option was the best choice.

"I'm not sure what you did would follow my definition of 'painless', my friend, but it was a quick passing," Logan wryly remarked as he cast off the guardsman tabard and loosened his chainmail, "if you'd like to keep your disguise on to take a quick tactical advantage, go ahead. I'm going to take to the trees and ambush the two flunkies from them by using the trees ringing the clearing. I'll give you the honor of taking out the captain and I'll keep his bodyguards off your back while you do it."

Logan climbed the nearest tree, pulling himself up using low branches until he was close to disappearing into the thick leaves. Cleaning Thrae, which he'd kept drawn while Kenneth was leading the two of them toward the corrupt captain, Logan scoped out the clearing using his keen half-Elven eyes and the better vantage point. While the captain had a full battleaxe on his person, the two guards held shortswords and bows, which wouldn't be a problem for him while striking from above.

"When you're ready to strike, Vyse, whistle for me and I'll leap out and take out the captain's bodyguards. They won't be a problem for you while you take care of the captain." After that, Logan moved through the trees until he was able to bring himself within ten yards of the two bowmen, which would make range a non-factor as the ranger, despite his age, was more than capable of reaching the two of them by leaping. With Thrae beginning to glow in his hands, Logan waited for Vyse to move in and give him the signal.
