| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

A light drizzle drove Vyse's feet, he moved quickly using whatever cover he could as he moved towards the old cathedral. As he drew closer to the door he went into a short sprint, using the extra force to help open the large double doors. Vyse quickly got inside the cathedral and closed the doors. He looked around, seeing a small fire near the end of the pews. He drew his cutlass and longsword, slowly creeping up, using the pews as cover. He knew it was either the informant he was supposed to meet here, or some kind of ambush if his informant double crossed him. He had to be ready at all times, he could easily take a small two or three man ambush, but six or seven men would give him a hard time... but he didn't see anyone in this building. He crept closer and closer to the end of the pews and the fire. He thought to himself 'If it's just some wanderer taking refuge from the storm, I'll just ask him to leave.' He smiled to himself, knowing if it was the informant he would gain information on a particular corrupt merchant, his father. He hoped today he'd finally make some headway on this special subject. |

Nestled as I was by my fire, I was content. My thoughts drifted as I did, in my search. The rain increased it's tempo on the roof as I began to drift to sleep. Footfalls. From the door, only one set, almost indistiguisable over the rain. I grabbed the hilt of my blade. I looked up into the still darkness that surronded my small fire, there was no one here yet. I began to prepare myself, I steadied my breath and settled into an easy crouch. I would not be caught unaware. |

As he got to the end of the pew, he readied himself, quickly leaping out, both weapons out. That's when he saw the oddly dressed man carrying a longsword, with cat ears and a tail, obviously this man was going to some kind of festival most likely. He sighed in relief, just some lost party goer. "Hello there, I assume you're not the man I expected to be here, nor are you a bandit... so we should sheathe our blades like civilized men," Vyse smiled in relief as he sheathed his blades. "I'm guessing you were going to a party and got lost, that's why you have the ridiculous get up, right?" Questioned Vyse as he took a seat near an old rotting podium. "Also, I suggest you leave here soon, trouble may brew here." Even with his smile, Vyse's voice was deadly serious, he didn't want anyone to interfere in his fight or get hurt. He sat, waiting for his new acquaintance to reply to his short series of questions. |

I sat up, the man was obvious for avoiding confrotation, I sheathed my blade and bowed to this stranger. "I don't know what you mean by some lost party go-er...if you haven't noticed we are not in an area where parties might spring up. How lost do you think I am? And if you didn't notice, I was here first, about to nap, actually. But now that can't happen, it seems you want me to leave, but if you fear for my safety, I advise you to not. You on the other hand, why is a lone swordsman doing seeking this place out? I merely camped here for the night...you have a purpose, it's plain as day on your face."

Vyse grimaced, he didn't want to tell this person about his plans to murder a lower noble, or the fact that he'd be meeting up with his contact here to get information on said noble and his gang of bandits that worked as his muscle in the alleys and backstreets. "I'm meeting an old friend here, he's going to give me a very important message, though I wouldn't be surprised if he was followed. I even expected an ambush here only to find you alone, Sir, But since we're both going to be here for a while, we might as well get friendly." Vyse smirked, he knew that is this man got caught in the crossfire he could probably keep his own. "I'm Vyse, Vyse Noclan, a man of No clan or title." Vyse tried to keep the anger out of his face, his contact was late and all he had as company was this man wearing cat ears and a cat tail, 'how odd of company can ya get?' wondered Vyse as he sat there, ready to move at a moments notice. |

My tail swished back and forth as I pondered this stranger, he seemed troubled, but by what I had no way of knowing. I rocked back on the balls of my feet and stoked the small fire I had going, "Well Vyse, if you wish to be friendly, I have no qualms. I am Volke. I also have no clan or title." My tail twitched, "If you were so certain of an ambush, why did you come in alone, and through the front door for that matter? I think there is more to your story. But I am not one to pry into other's affairs, I value privacy as much as the next man. You are welcome to share my fire till your friend arrives, I'll gladly step out while you talk; however, as soon as you're done I shall return to continue my rest." |

Vyse could tell he would get along fine with this Volke character, he was a friendly and understanding person. Though what caught his eye was the tail... moving on its own. He pointed to the tail, "Hey Volke, how did you make the tail move without wind? Is it some sort of magic?" questioned Vyse as he kept the door in sight at all times, just in case his 'friend' appeared. That's when he remembered a rumor, about some sort of cat-man combination wandering about, maybe this was that man. "... Those are real aren't they? You're that part man part cat I heard about, that's pretty interestin'," his eyes started to shine, he had heard that he was a swordsman of some skill, he wished to test that. "Care to humor me with a duel to first blood Volke? It has been a while since I used my sword arms, I'm guessing you can hold your own against me." Vyse smirked, he would fight this man to kill some time, it would be fun and keep his sword arm strong. |

"They are as real as the ears you have, and my tail is as real as any cat's. It seems my past proceeds me, I would not duel you to first blood, it is not the way I was raised, I will spar with you, if you still seek a challenge." I stood and bowed, my tail loped around my waist, as an impromptu belt. I unsheathed my blade, it was nothing special, of well enough make, it was a single edged blade, with a very slight curve to it. The handle was wrapped in black leather, it had a cross tree hilt. "I would never draw the blood of one who is not my enemy, though I do not mean by this that I am the better swordsman. If you still wish to spar, then come! Make yourself ready!" I dropped into a ready stance, the edge of my blade towards the ceiling, the point towards Vyse. My feet began to splay as I gripped the ground with my bare feet. |

Vyse could feel his blood pumping, a fight without killing, just a sparring match, his blood was boiling as he drew his cutlass and longsword, both of made by a master, simple but elegant. "Alright... hope you're ready!" Vyse stood up and took a long step forward, bring both blades down at him. It was an obvious move and he knew it, it was just a feint after all. At the moment after impact of being blocked he knew he would get counter attacked, and that was his moment, his fighting style almost always ended up giving and taking blows. |

A feint, it would seem his heart was not behind the strike, but this man's aggression was plain as day. "More than ready!" I whirled to the left, using my momentum to bring my blade full circle to his exposed side, if he wished to strike me head on he was either a fool, or he was appraising me, either way, I would not be taken so easily in a fight. I ducked low as I began the turn and angled my slash upward, coming from the knee to land around his exposed midriff. |

'Fast!' thought Vyse as he saw Volke move, he couldn't afford feints against him. "You're fast!" shouted Vyse as he sent his longsword slamming into Volke's blade, "But you've got to think two steps ahead to beat an experienced swordsman!" Vyse's cutlass swerved to the side, aiming to cut his right arm, disable the sword arm and victory would be his. It was a cruel tactic, but he saw how fast this man was, he knew this young swordsman would easily dodge it if he could recover from the impact of sword on sword. |

Already turning aside from the inital impact, I glanced at his blade streaking for my arm, "Let us dance..." I brought my arm down, under his sweeping blade, and rolled with the momentum, springing fluidly up. My blade swept up from the ground at his wrist, "Fast, yes. But you seem to think that fighting is about winning. I'm afraid you've never fought an opponent like me, this will be a good experience for you. May we both learn." As I brought my blade to the peak of my slash, I altered my stance ever so slightly and began to sway with my movement rather than let my arms move the blade. |

"Alright, then dance I shall." Vyse muttered as his arms started to move faster, the longsword working to parry his blade to the side while the cutlass slashes low then redirects high, going for his upper arm as he widens his stance, getting a better feeling for his footing. "Speed won't win this alone, sometimes to get a hit you need to take a hit." Vyse smirked, this was a new experience, this swordsman was somewhat like him, prizing mobility over heavy armor, but Volke's style still was more like a cutting wind, and his own is like the rapids in a river. |

The rythym of my tribe begins, I hear the beat of the skin drums, keeping my movements precise, the trill of the wild flutes leaves me electified, I spin away from his descending blade, and with it I take my own full-circle around my body to deliver a strike at the knee, "Never take a hit you don't intend to avenge." Now I could hear the melodies, rising and falling with the wind, controlled, yet seemingly devoid of any direction, the flow was apparent, the reason; however, was not to be seen. My Sethči blood began to pump faster, in the near-dark of the building a dim blueish light appeared. Sparks began to dance with me, along my blade, they twisted erratically and jumped a few inches only to dive back onto the metal surface. 'Interesting, this may be more exictment than I've had in far too long' I mused. |

Vyse leaped back, distancing himself from Volke and dodging the strike at his knee, dashing forward, he begins a renewed attack, his blades flickering as they move infront of him, never striking out, just moving faster and faster. Then the assault begins. 'Lets see him deal with the rapids of my river' mused Vyse as his blades starting to move a bit more. Just as he was about to make his next move, a loud 'ping' is heard, a crossbow bolt rolls across the ground, followed by several twangs of bow strings. Vyse immediately dodges to the side and dives for cover. "Excuse me Volke, but it seems my informant has betrayed me, care to help me kill of these bloody bandits?" Vyse was in a tight spot if Volke didn't help out, he glanced at where he was, there were four crossbow bolts embedded in the wall. With a loud crash the doors swing in, and the four hidden crossbowmen leap up from the back pews as four bandits wielding shortswords and small clubs walk in. "Which do you want, the right or left side?" Edited by Vyse, Thu May 12, 2011 3:25 pm.
