Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

[OOC: Wrong account, this post is in the character of Auron DeBrouchet]

Auron stepped over the rubble spilling into the streets of Taras, a wooden figuring splintering as a heavy boot rested on it, walking over the ruins of a home scattered with pewter serving ware, toys, and rotting cloths plastered to the ground by months of rain and grime.
Snuffling behind the Istani came a large dog, feet sinking into the dirt deeper than most would. Finding the splintered toy, he snapped it up, holding it in its jaws. Putting light pressure on the figurine, he began biting through the wood.

Turning back at the sound, Auron glared at Felix, slapping a scale-plated gauntlet at the Stone Hound. The clack of scales on stone was muffled by the awkward angle, a normally disorienting blow reduced to a playful swat by the hound’s stony skin. “Drop it, Felix. Have respect for the dead.” The hound cocked its head to the side, not understanding. “I know you’re not that—” He sighed, grasping the wooden toy and yanking it from the canine.

The pair advanced up a rotting set of stairs, wet crackling following breaking wood.
Their prey was nearby. Not long ago, a few of the refugees had posted a notice of an imp prowling this particular area, picking through the rubble and snagging anyone who happened by alone. He’d only had to wait a week after arriving for the demon to be reported. They were plentiful in the area yet, but people tended to stick to chosen, well-travelled paths around known territories.

The demon was prowling under a window, stalking along the side of the building in the last rays of dusk. Grabbing the window frame, the Istani leaned out shallowly, looking down on the five-foot fiend. Not too hefty, but it had a good-sized tail with a bulbous end. To be stabbed by that…
Felix inched closer, sensing the demon soon enough and beginning to snarl. Auron clamped a hand down on its muzzle wide-eyed, holding a second before looking out the window. The imp was looking directly up at him.
They looked at each other before the demon turned around the corner of the building. Auron cursed and ran for the window opposite the room, diving through the rotting shutters. With a blast of wood, he came through, hitting the ground a story below and rolling, getting twisted up in his cloak for a second. Coming to his feet, he dashed after the imp, chasing for a moment before diving and seizing it around the ankle, tripping it up. He made a grab for the whipping tail and missed. Immediately he became grateful for the investment in his armor as it struck the breast plate, deflected.

Barking sounded louder as Felix caught up, snarling and diving ahead, taking the imp’s arm in its maw. The demon hissed and kicked Auron in the face, scrambling to its feet and seizing the dog by the jaw, trying to pry it open and off his limb, tail raising behind.

Auron snarled, baring his teeth. Slapping a hand on the ground, he pulled at the essence of the flagstone beneath, drawing on the stone to create a curved blade. Standing, he rushed forward, seized the tail to immobilize it, and ran the stone blade through the demon’s heart. It gave off a screech as ichor spewed from the wound, flailing. Auron drew the sword out, a spurt of black, odorous ichor spurting over his chest, a line falling across his cheek. Lifting the slick stone, he severed the tail below the stinger. The demon’s efforts increased and Felix began clawing at its sides.

Reaching up, he looped a finger through the curl in the imp’s horns, pulled its head back, and drove the stinger into its eye, squeezing the bulb to pump poison into its brain.

"Oh wow..."

In part because of the magnificence of the view itself, and partially due to the time at which the boy was seeing it, but Danzien found himself immobilized where he stood. At the precipice of a hill just outside of the Taran ruins, he was met with a view of the destroyed city crowned by a vibrant sunset that seemed to inflame the sky with shades of violet and orange that he could have never imagined on his own. It was so beautiful... and so sad... Awestruck, the boy continued down his path, using his quarterstaff as a walking stick as he made his way towards the remains of Taras.

Due to his upbringing in a small, mostly rural village, Dan had never had much of a chance to leave, if any at all. All of his life he'd lived with the same people, gone to the same shops and run the same errands. When the opportunity to leave presented itself, he took it. Sure, he'd abandoned his family, his village, and a clear-set simple life, but at least he could see things like this...

After a short while, he found himself beyond the remnants of the city walls, treading on destroyed streets between decrepit buildings. There was debris everywhere- stones were strewn across the streets in a way that promised long-detonated explosions. Every time he stepped on a plank of wood (which was often considering how many there were littering the ground) he was met with a tense groan and a sharp snap as the aged material gave way to his weight.

He wound through the streets, struck by the sheer lack of noise. It was so big. It was so empty. A chill went down his spine as the youth imagined what could have done something like this. A war? No, cities recuperated from attacks. They rebuilt, they moved on... Whatever had happened here must have been truly horrible. Images of flames crossed the boy's mind, coupled with the imagined sound of running, screaming- terror.

Dan shook his head and looked at the sky. No stars showed themselves yet, but the sheet of night had definitely begun its journey across the sky- the vibrant colors in the sunset were becoming darker and more intense, striking at the sky in a last defiant battle before they had to succumb to darkness. Wishing to get a better look at the sky, for the sunset promised to be great in its final hours, Dan put his staff into the strap across his back to free his hands and found a sturdy-looking building. Looking around more out of habit than necessity, he put his hand in a hole where a cobblestone had once stood and hoisted himself up onto the wall.

The boy scaled the wall with the ease of someone who had, no doubt, done this sort of thing before. In a remarkably short time, he was at a point between the first and second stories of the building when an explosion of wood forced him to stop where he was and look down- bursting out of the window directly between his legs was a man in armor and a strange beast that, for the life of him, Dan couldn't identify. There was quite a bit of ruckus before the lad realized that there was, in fact, a third creature present... Another thing that, of course, the boy couldn't name if his life depended on it. The three of them scuffled. There was a flash of metal and a hissing sound- one of the creatures lost what looked like a tail, but the armored man wasn't through with it yet.

As the imp was stabbed in the eye with its own tail, Danzien finally realized that he was still hanging from the wall.

"Well I'll be," he said to the armored man, repositioning himself. He was hanging off of the wall by one hand now, both feet anchored in a hole they'd found in the cobbles.

"What a show!"

The demon jerked against the blow, screeching as the poison blinded it, eating away at its eyes and brain. Auron held his face away from the creature as it bucked wildly, ripping out the stinger and wrapping his armored forearm about the imp’s neck, pulling the steel reinforced scale against its windpipe. Slowly the demon began to weaken, giving weaker and less frequent jerks as it melted into his arms, ichor dripping off his chest piece and lower torso. The leather skirt-like guard colored darker as the ichor stained it further, already black with demon blood.

Satisfied, he dropped the creature at his feet, onto its face. Wrapping his mailed glove around the hilt of the stone sword, he tore it free with a ripping noise, blood spattering his face. Inspecting the rough blade, he touched the tip to the stones underfoot, whispering words to them as he sunk the blade back into the earth from whence it came.

Felix gave a final twist of its head before letting go of the imp, ichor dripping from its jowls. Shaking its head from side to side, the beast moaned and began to lick its forearm, trying to cleanse the foul taste of demon blood from its mouth. Auron grinned and scratched its head, grinding of stone on stone sounding. “Gotta teach you better’n that eventually, pup. If yer gonna be of any use in a fight, anyway.” He chuckled, jumping to one foot as the dog nipped at the other.

Smiling, he didn’t notice the man hanging from the wall.

”Well I’ll be, what a show!”

Auron spun, drawing a curved dagger made of brown marble, a single unbroken piece of stone, polished, shaped, and sharpened by hand. Felix dropped low, a growl rumbling from deep within. The stone hound was a menacing sight, black fluids dripping from its jowls and voice reminiscent of the crunch of gravel.
And possibly your last. What manner of beast are you? No man travels this far into the ruins on his own.” He waved the knife, watching the boy and plotting out his first move should he prove to be anything but. “Mind I’m in no mood for games.

A knife was pointed at him, as well as a few less-than-friendly words and a set of bloodstained jowls. Obviously, the armored man and his pet considered Dan a threat for some reason that the boy couldn't even begin to imagine. This place was about as guarded as a sandcastle- why shouldn't he be here?

"No man, eh?" Danzien said, chuckling uneasily as he eyed the creature's ichor-stained teeth, vaguely aware of the droning growl that it was giving off. "Well, consider me No Man." He smiled, repositioning his feet, but making no move to descend. Obviously, there was going to be some talking before the young druid felt comfortable enough to stand within dagger-reach.

“Mind I’m in no mood for games.”

"Well where's the fun in that, friend?" asked Dan, shaking his head gently. A gentle breeze made the youth's cloak ruffle playfully. He knew that considering the way that the man was armed, and how close he was to the ground, teasing the stranger was quite possibly the worst move he could have made, but at the same time, it was all he had. It was like facing a wild animal; run and they charge, stand your ground and confuse them... at least until you figured out what to do next.

"Well, if you insist on being serious," Dan said, bringing his free hand back to the wall, "Why don't you make a serious attempt at following me?" With that, the boy began to ascend again, paying attention to the armored man as best as he could. The man was curious, to be sure, but who was to say that he was interesting enough to miss out on a sunset as beautiful as this one? No- he could just as easily yell down to the man from the top as he could from here. Coaxing his acquaintance, Dan continued to call out to him over his shoulder.

"Come on, you can do it- I promise it'll be worth your while, friend!"
