| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

His dreams of late troubled him. Memories of his past ran through his mind more often than ever before, and the fall of his love, back on his homeworld, was starting to become more clear to him. When it had happened, it was a blur, a haze. But now... It was as clear as the sky above him. He looked around, peering at the rotted pews and the dust-laden bookshelves. Something called him to this place... En route to the Hills of Mist to confront the man that had betrayed him, he had received a vision... A hooded man, wreathed in white cloth, with enormous wings of pure brilliant energy had called to him in his dreams ever since he arrived on Imythess. Though he had fought hard to resist the call, the developing events rendered him unable to hold back the urge to go any longer. He had no idea that he would be led into the heart of a ruined city, let alone a crumbling Cathedral. As he examined its destroyed walls, he let out a sigh. "What am I doing... There's nothing here... Not a damned thing! Just ruined tomes and moldy benches.. This is pointless! I should be hunting the bastards that betrayed me! Not standing around in a ruined church!" As he spoke, storm clouds began to form in the sky, and booming claps of thunder shook the very foundations of the building within which he stood. Suddenly, untintelligible whispering could be heard throughout the entire cathedral. Coming from all different directions, it tempted Godfrey to draw his enchanted sword. As he drew the blade, a bolt of lightning flew down, striking the weapon from his hand, and sending it to the floor. The whispering was so frequent that it became almost deafening. It sounded as though thousands of unseen, whispering beings were jammed into the ruined cathedral with him, and for the first time in his life... He knew fear. He thought he was losing his mind. He quickly turned to the doorway, and winced as thunder clapped again, this time even louder and more violent than the first. He made a run for the door, and crashed into it as it slammed shut. The whispering stopped, save for one voice. As he heard the words it spoke, his lip trembled, and he nearly froze... "Marrius..." It was a name he had not heard in years, since before taking his oath as holy knight in his early twenties. He turned in the direction of the voice to see nothing. The storm began to escalate, and hail started pelting the ruined cathedral, as well as the warrior. Then, the floor under him began to freeze over. A thick, freezing mist rose from the ground, and Godfrey was uttered immobile. Ice crawled up to his knees, and hardened. "I have watched you, Marrius, from the time of your inception. Did you think you would not be punished for your crimes against the Light? Did you think your rampage through Arda's sacred temples would go unchecked?" The voice that spoke sounded like several layered upon each other, and Godfrey had no idea what to do. Fear gripped him like never before. Then it appeared... the vision of his dreams, the hooded man garbed in white, flowing robes, with transluscent wings that resembled that of a great eagle, save for the fact that they radiated a brilliant white light. Light pulsed from every inch of its body, nearly blinding the demon slayer. He thought his moment of judgement had come. He knew it had to be the end. "Who... Who are you? How do you know my name?" He trembled as he spoke, both out of fear and because of the cold. "I am eternal. I am one, and I am many. I traverse worlds, dimensions, and time. I, am the Arkhangelsk. I am the essence of Light. I am all of these things, yet nothing. It was I who allowed you to live. It was I, who allowed you to enter this world. Did you think it was mere luck that saved you from certain destruction? Do you think it was merely chance that spared your soul from eternal torment in the Abyss?" Godfrey opened his mouth to speak, only to cower before the being as it roared. "SILENCE!" The volume of the being's voice sent small portions of the walls crashing to the floor, and nearly made the former Paladin soil himself. "You live only because I see it fit for you to live. The deaths you have caused echo throughout time and space, and they scream for retribution. You have upset the balance, the order of things, the very fabric . For each soul claimed by your maliciousness, the severity of your punishment shall increase tenfold." The being paused for a moment, and examined Godfrey. This time, it allowed the warrior to speak. "Why... Why are you telling me this? Do you plan on killing me? Sending me off to my fate? For what purpose did you call to me?" At first he was met with silence. After a few moments, the being spoke again. "Because I have come to offer you a choice. I have watched you, Marrius. I have witnessed your deeds since your arrival on this plane. I have seen the demons you have mercilessly slaughtered, if only for your own gratification... Until now. For the first time, you have shown regret for your actions. The murders you committed trouble you, even now." Again, the Arkhangelsk paused. "What... choice?" The being gazed at the warrior from under its hood, and hovered towards him. "Eternal damnation, or redemption. I see use for you, Marrius. A storm is coming," lightning crackled through the sky and another resounding thunderclap shook the cathedral. "Darkness is slowly but inevitably enshrouding this land with an iron fist. Before long, Imythess will be enveloped in chaos and suffering. You, will be one of many, handpicked to hold them back in the name of the Light. If you refuse, your existence after death will be filled with nothing but anguish and torment." The being leaned towards Godfrey and narrowed its eyes. "Your soul will never rest..." A somber, almost defeated look came across the demon slayer's face. "For so long... I have tried justifying my actions... I blamed the Light for her death. I claimed that it had abandoned me." At this, the Arkhangelsk became enraged once more. Another booming clap of thunder shook the foundations of the cathedral, and it roared. "It was you, who abandoned the Light, Marrius! The Gods did not intervene because they could not! You of all people should know this!" Godfrey knew the being was right. All that time seeking vengeance on Gods who could not have done anything for him, even if they wanted to. It was all for nothing. "This... is your only chance for redemption. This is your only chance at righting the wrongs you have created. The Light grants forgiveness to those who ask for it, but in your case, Marrius... You will fight for it. Do you accept, or do you wish to suffer for all of eternity?" Marrius Godfrey looked upon the being, and then glanced down. "I choose... To fight." As his sentence ended, the ice around his feet shattered, and an unseen force lifted him into the air. He felt a searing pain course through his veins, and the sword that had been knocked aside shattered into pieces. Godfrey stared at it, wide-eyed, and was suddenly thrown to the floor. "Kneel." The Arkhangelsk drew a blade that coursed with raw holy energy, and pointed it towards the traumatized warrior. Godfrey did as the essence commanded without question. "Marrius Godfrey. You shall fight in the name of all that is Holy. You shall shed the blood of any who dare threaten the sanctity of Imythess, and you shall protect the weak, no matter the cost. You are hereby declared a warrior of the Holy Light, a defender of the faith, and the fist of the heavens. You shall be my instrument of justice, my vessel of divine wrath. Rise, Marrius Godfrey! Rise, a Paladin!" As Godfrey slowly rose to his feet, he felt a bolt of what looked like electricity slam into his chest, and once again he was lifted into the air. Holy energy crackled through his body, and his eyes became engulfed in a bright white flame, though only for a few seconds. As the reborn Paladin landed, the Arkhangelsk drew a second blade, this one glowing with the same bright light that had entered Godfrey's body and coursed through his every being. An aura of Frost cascaded from the hilt upwards, and was illuminated by the celestial glow of the beautiful weapon. He handed it to Godfrey, and spoke one last time. "Go now, Marrius, and exact holy wrath upon the deceiver who led you to slaughter those accused of worshipping the spawn of the Abyss. This is your first task." Godfrey nodded at the Arkhangelsk, and turned back to the doorway. It slowly opened, and he started to step through. He looked back to an untouched, empty room, and sighed, then stepped outside and started back towards Norwood Forest, for reasons he had yet to discover. Edited by Godfrey, Sat Apr 23, 2011 1:19 am.
