| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Ice. Not something that Victoria was a huge fan of. But, she didn't know where a library was, so, she came to this city. A city on ice. As Victoria walked up the roads, she noticed that this city was either normally not busy, this was a slow day, or no one wanted to walk in outside when the clouds covered the sky so much. She looked around, not noticing that the few people that had made it outside where staring at her as though she was some sort of magic being. Viky wondered around for a while, looking for a library. This place must have some were where someone could read about this place!?! Right??? Thought Victoria. Mostly she just wanted to get inside from the staring eyes. It was quite some time before she found the library. It wasn't to large. At least, not as big as Viky was hoping for. But, she went inside anyways. The inside was much bigger then it looked like from the outside. There where columns that seemed to grow the ceiling itself. The was a second story, which Victoria hadn't seen from the outside. The columns seemed to be made from some sort of stone, ivory, maybe. There was a grand stair case just inside, and if one looked, they could see another stair case over closer to the back. That was just a normal stair case. Inside, much like the outside, was empty. It was nice to get from all the ice and everything. Now, Victoria focused on what she wanted. The information on her new home. The librarian looked a little taken aback when Victoria came in, but said nothing. Maybe she thought it was odd that some one would want to learn something right now. Victoria shrugged that off and went to a random section of the library. She claimed the stairs, hoping to get away from the staring librarian. Past Leaders off the City-Striberg, The Magic City! is what the end said. "Hmmm... odd thing to title a section of a Library. One would think something like that would be a short section." Victoria whispered. She looked at the ends of the other two selves. Neither had anything on them. She shrugged it off, too, and went somewhere in the middle of self, and looked at the books. She picked a random book off the self, and went to a table. She had a good view of the entrance, and of the librarian, but if she moved, or if someone came in, neither of them would know that Viky was there. She got comfortable, and got set to reading. "It was in the early years of this grand city that blahblahblah..." Everything went in one eyeball, and out the other. A movement at the entrance re focused Victoria. As she looked, she saw what looked a man walk in. He greeted the librarian, and moved on. She lost sight of him at the other end of section close to her. So, Victoria stood up, keeping the book, and walked over to find him. Not that she really wanted to know anything, but with as empty as this city was, she found odd that someone should be coming in. She wanted to know this man. Maybe he could help her learn about this place. Maybe even tell her the land mass that she was on. She know that she was in Striberg, but, she wanted to know more about the places. As followed the man, Victoria found a map. She stopped and looked at it. IMYTHESS-HOME OF EVERYTHING! You are here! And there was an arrow pointing some chunk of ice. Imythess? Hmmm... sounds... nice. Victoria looked at the map a moment longer, then went to find the man. |

The attack had shattered and torn up Ozan's arm to such an extent that multiple healing sessions over several weeks would be needed to fix it. "I heard you were a mercenary," the attending medic said as he finished examining the injured limb. "What are you gonna do while you're a cripple?" Ozan looked at his heavily bandaged and braced arm with a slight frown. "Think of some new ways to kill the thing that hurt me, I guess." He tried to flex his fingers, but they only twitched a little. "And I'm not a mercenary. I just kill things for the benefit of society." "Sounds like a mercenary to me." He grunted noncommittally. "Visit me again in two days. Try not to leave Striberg until I'm done with the healing." Nodding, Ozan got up, bid the medic farewell and left at a brisk pace. His first destination for the day was the town library. Entering, he greeted the librarian with a wave; she nodded back, looking up at him over the rims of her glasses. Somewhat unfamiliar with the layout of the building, it took the man a few passes through the various book stacks to acquaint himself. He finally settled near a shelf filled with tomes of lore. Looking through, he pulled out a hefty bestiary, holding it precariously with one arm. Looking over his shoulder, Ozan noticed a figure in the corner of his eye moving about nearby. "You need help or something?" he asked. ((OOC: Sorry for not posting yesterday! Something came up.)) |

Though she had been sure that she had not been as quite as she could have been, Victoria was surprised when the man asked there was something that she needed. She answered as truthfully as she could right now. "Not really... I was just wondering if you knew if anything was going on today here… The city seemed kind of empty." She almost asked him if he knew where they were, but that sounded kind of stupid in her mind. She was sure that her eyes gave off that she had another question. She figured that the map that she had seen earlier had been one of the past, or something. Why would a library have a map of what a place looks like now, inside? Seems kind of, stupid. thought Victoria. She had no idea if that map was current, or real, or anything. She hoped that it was, otherwise she might just try to eat someone... No joke. Though she wasn't hungry, eating wasn't such a bad idea. That was when Victoria released that she was looking kind of odd. There was, what looked like, a mirror behind the man. Though most people can' see Vampires in mirrors, she could see herself. She never really knew what she looked like. When Victoria had been at her old home, she had almost no mirrors at home. When her parents were thinking about putting in a huge mirror in the hallway leading to her room, she had said no. It was leading to her room, why couldn't she say no? They put it in anyways. Victoria had to walk right next to the wall to not look in the mirror. She had heard the stories of vampires not having a reflection in mirrors, and didn't want to know if that was true. So, she moved to the side, after she was sure that she looked as "normal" as one could when one was a vampire. She was dressed in her normal clothes. A long dark, dark purple dress, with black flats on. That is what she loved to wear when the weather was changing. It wasn't like she had much else to wear. She looked at the man, wondering what his name was, when Victoria released that she hadn't introduced herself. "My names Victoria. What's your name?" Victoria tried to sound like she really did care about what his name was... But, in the end, she didn't. She was careful to make sure that she didn't touch the man. She didn't want him to release that she wasn't a normal person. Though, she was sure that he would have found that out just by looking at her closely enough... |

Ozan scratched his head with his non-broken hand. "Not that I know of, ma'am. I'm not really from around here. I heard someone earlier mention that a few new traders were coming in from the mainland, but that's about it." She asked him his name. "Ozan Mazhar, here on business. Nice to meet you, Victoria." He offered his hand for a shake, a jovial smile on his face. "Where you from, Victoria? You don't look like you're from around here." The thick tome in his arm was beginning to slip, so he gave a quick, "Excuse me," and placed it down on a table a few paces nearby. Pulling out a seat and sitting down, he turned his attention back to the girl. "Heh, they really need to print these things smaller. Should break them all up into a million volumes or something." She was a little distracted by the mirror behind him -- pfft, women -- so he shrugged and sat down in front of the huge book. Since the type was so tiny, Ozan was forced to lean in to read anything well. He began the long and tedious process of scanning the whole thing, page by page. |

Ozan... That's a new one! Thought Victoria. She knew little when it came to the names of people around here, but it seemed that he was not from around either... Maybe talking to him wasn't a total waste, after all. He asked about where she was from. Victoria had no clue where she was from. She knew the name of the town, but that didn't help much here. She wasn't from this place. "You're right."She said as she moved over to seat next to him at the table. She kept a little bit away from him, as to not let on that she wasn't human, as he looked. "I ran away from my home. I'm not from this place. I came here over the sea. What about you?" She didn't know what people around here normally looked like, so she had no clue if he looked like what the normally did. Victoria couldn't help but agree with him. Though the book she had in her hand wasn't anywhere near as large as his, it didn't like to stay in her hand. She put it on the table as well. She opened it to the page that she had kept marked, but it just shut. She throw out her hand to make sure that she didn't lose her place, and went a little too fast for a human. It wasn't like losing her place in a book that she didn't really care about was that big of a deal, right? Correct. Then, why did she feel that if she didn't keep her place marked, that she was going to lose something of great importance? |

"Over the sea, huh?" It was hard to imagine. Ozan's travels were essentially limited to Imythess. Long boat trips were expensive -- airships even more so. He was impressed by the girl's worldliness. A runaway, sure, but it took guts to be a runaway. It wasn't like she looked young enough that her parents would be worried, or anything. "I'm from a small town in Devon, just a few days' walk from Kellen. This is probably the farthest north I've ever been, I'd say." He laughed a little to himself. Ozan eventually flipped to a page with a ferocious-looking dog on it. "Yes! The canids." He was silent for a few moments to scan the text, but realized that it would be polite to explain his search to the curious woman. "There's a black dog in Striberg," he said. "I've been hunting it. It's not what you think, though. It kills people. They'll be walking home at night, and the thing will stalk them for entire blocks before mauling them faster than they can blink. It's huge, with little beady red eyes; creepy as all hell. Bit my arm so hard it shattered the bone." He held up his injured arm, in a sling and wrapped tightly with bracing on the side. "I want to find out if it has weaknesses. Then I can challenge it again." "But I'm rambling," he continued, as if interrupting himself. "What brings you to the Library of Striberg, Victoria?" |

That was the last thing that she wanted to answer. How many times had she tired to tell herself that she was better off not leaving... She left for one reason, and reason alone. To get away from all those people who seem to hate her. But, would she tell him that? Victoria had no idea what tell him. Ozan seemed to think that he was rambling, which is why he asked her why she was here. Though, he asked her why she here, in Striberg, not why she was she was here, on Imythess. "I'm here beecause... Because I want to be. Nothing more than that." To someone on the outside, someone like Ozan, that would have been rude. But, to her, that was the truth. Her reason is not the reason that must would have left. She left because she hated her life. To Viky, her live was nothing short of heck! Having to hide inside all day. She dropped out of all education. She had basically left all wants to live in her old life... Her life as a human. Victoria shrugged it off. She had no want to think, or talk about that. "So, what exactly are those... dogs, did you say they where?" Victoria looked at the page. It didn't really look like a dog to her. Again, she shrugged it off. "So, you're hunting a dog, because it can kill?" She was honestly curious. To her, something that helped to kill, would be helpful. But, not everyone thought that way. She knew that, and yet, she wanted to know why Ozan wanted to kill a dog. It was a dog! Why not just domesticate it? If you could do that, than it would be very helpful to catch the bad guys. So, she said that. "Why can't you just domesticate it? That seems more... Humane, than killing, right?" Victoria smiled. She choose her words that way on purpose. Though she stayed as far away from humans, she had always loved how little jokes like that, the ones that one could only get if you weren't human. Her smiled widened. Victoria's personal joke only made her more happy. That was when she got a hold of her self. The smile wiped from her face faster than it had appeared. Which, was fast. Though it had only been there for a second, if one where watching closely, than they would have seen it, otherwise, no one would have known. |

Victoria's deflecting response made Ozan raise his eyebrows. It was obvious now that she was hiding something. His expression of vague surprise quickly settled back into his usual smile, though. Whatever she had to hide, it wasn't his business. "Fair enough," he said, laughing nervously. They regarded the bestiary again. "In this case, 'dog' is a pretty loose word for it. If you're superstitious, I suppose you could call it an evil spirit or a demon. Either way, it's got magic running through its veins." She suggested domesticating it. Ozan paused to think, rubbing the back of his neck. "I don't know. Maybe. Might complicate things if I tried, though. My expertise is in killing, not capturing. I don't even know what its weaknesses are, much less what kind of trap or magical spell could keep it in one place." He had neglected to mention, of course, how important it was to him that this creature die. That would have required more than a little explaining, though. Continuing to read the book, he dawned upon something. "Well, I know where I can find it, now." Tilting the book slightly in Victoria's direction, he pointed to a section of the text. It described how the black dogs' strong association with death caused them to appear, in many cases, at places of execution or at crossroads on towns' outskirts. Ozan pushed out his seat and stood, awkwardly taking up the massive bestiary in his unbroken arm. He gave a quick, shallow bow. "It's been a pleasure, Victoria. I hope you, er, find your way, I suppose. ...Try not to wander about at night for a couple weeks, if you can. While my arm heals." |

Victoria almost raised her eyebrow at him, but decided better than that. So, she moved to what he said next..."You're hunting something... that you don't know much about?!? How much freaking since does that make?" Viky was as much surprised by her reaction as Ozan was, and most likely more. She didn't know why she was so freaked out at the idea of someone hunting without knowing much about their prey... She's done it! "I'm sorry... That was rude." said Victoria. She knew that was very rude, and mostly to a man who was serving his... town? If only to an extant. When Ozan let her look at the book, Victoria stared blankly at the page. She heard him talking, but she lost him at "If you're superstitious..." Aren't Vampires Superstitions? thought Victoria, as she stared at the page. If so, than this man was seating within 3 feet of a superstition. As she draw back from the book, Victoria shook her head. How she could seat here, letting that slip by? She put her hand on her forehead, and let it rest there for a moment while she thought, letting her back hit the chair with a small, almost unheard thumb... Then, Ozan got up all of sudden. "..Try not to wander about at night for a couple weeks, if you can. While my arm heals."... Now, that offended Victoria. She stood up, at her full height, and stared Ozan straight in the eye. "Not to be rude Mr. Ozan, but I can take care of myself. I don't need someone looking over at the dark ally to make sure that no demon-dog is there... Oh, and by the way, I believe in Superstitions... 'cuz they are just superstitions." Viky nearly yelled this at Ozan. She knew that she was being rude, and offending him, but she could care less right now. Victoria didn't even wait long enough to see what his face held. She turned around, and stalked down the stairs. She walked over to the librarian. "I won't be needed this, thank you." As Viky looked at the librarian, she saw that the women had heard Victoria yelling at Ozan. The women clearly thought that two of them had fought over how they where "a couple" or something, which wasn't true. Briefly, Victoria wondered what the women would tell the others who walked in... She didn't care a whole lot right now though. As the librarian mumbled something along the lines of "thank you for your visit, have a good day", Victoria turned to the door, only turn right back around. The sun had come out. Victoria let her head drop as she went the other way from Ozan. He was the last person that she wanted to talk to at this moment. But, if he stayed her, then she would eventually run into him again. It looked like this place was also empty besides the three of them... Ozan, the Librarian, and Victoria... |
