Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Taras was the place to be for everyone looking for happiness in the terms of a small fortune. The city was getting rebuilt due to the deep pockets of several wealthy benefactors that showed interest in seeing Taras reappear on the map as the city it once was. Even though these benefactors and their motives remain unknown, the steady stream of gold is there and its directed at every restoration project, be it small or large.

One of those projects was the outer wall of the city. Defenses are vital in this day and age and a large rock wall around the city is among the greatest of town defenses. The blueprints for the wall also showed two large wood gates with guard outposts on both sides of them. Taras was never going to be taken as easily down as before if the wall and the guard posts were successfully created. Security was improving with every rock added to the construction, with every plank added to the outposts, but meanwhile the construction needed defending. After all the whole area was still unsafe, just because demons, bandits and monsters have been pushed back it does not mean they are gone for good.

Hel was there for that reason exactly, she among other adventurers had been signed up for the duty to defend the smiths and the workers during their work day, it was simple and easy gold, possibly even payment for no work at all if nothing happened during those days Hel had signed up for. She after all was not going to stick around for the entire project, building the walls might even take months if not years. She simply needed the pocket change and the payment for those few days until her real job called for attention.

“Move miss, you’re in the way!”

Hel was brought back to imythess when a burly built man addressed her. In every way the man looked the part of being smith, from the clothes to the equipment.

”ah sorry about that”

Hel sidestepped around him and let him through while glancing towards the wall. It was maybe half finished by now but there was a lot of work left to do. No gates had been built yet and only a single outpost out of the four planned had been raised from the ground.

Nireza had recently come to the ruined city of Taras. The city had been destroyed two years ago and had been in ruins since. However, people were beginning to work to rebuild the city. Nireza was here because she had heard that the city was finally being rebuilt, and she had decided to help out in some way.

Now she was near the construction site of part of the city's walls. She and several others had been hired to protect the workers so that construction could continue. So far, nothing had attacked them, and construction had gone according to plan, although it was far from finished. Unlike some of the guards, Nireza was here because she actually wanted to help and not just for the paycheck, although that also would be nice. She probably wouldn't be around for the entire construction project, especially if it got to a point where there was nothing for her to do.

Nireza noticed one of the other guards being told to move by a rather large worker who seemed to be some kind of leader. Nireza also made sure that she was out of the way of the workers. She stood close enough to protect the workers, but far enough from the site that she wouldn't interfere with their work.

She hadn't yet met many of the other guards, and she decided that she would be best off at least knowing their names before things got messy. She knew that it was easier to communicate during a battle if she knew the others' names.

She walked up to the other woman and said, "I guess I'm not the only woman out here. Anyways, I'm Nireza. What's your name?"

I had been walking around Taras for most of the day. Thinking to myself, why rebuild? If demons destroyed this place the first time, whats stopping them from doing it again? I personally dont care what happens either way. I was just a spectator for the inevitable. I spent about half an hour sucking the souls from petty theives and peasants, taking what little riches they had, if any at all. As my hunting came to and end i could feel my features changing. My hair turned brown and my eyes grey, the same of the young girl whose soul I'd just inhaled. I started debating whether or not to help the workers rebuild. "Maybe I could make a few quick gold.", i reasoned. Very well then. I started to walk over to the construction and introduce myself to the workers. "If this dosent pay well", i thought to myself, "i could always kill them."

The speaker was a girl, short girl compared to Hel. She was neat in appearance and a nice change in a group of guards that mostly consisted of lowlife bandits looking for quick gold or knights, all of which are males...MALES.

”Helen is the name and you’re a sight for sore eyes, these brutes were killing my appetite” As Hel spoke the words, she pointed towards a group of thugs that had clustered together around a campfire a little bit further away from the wall. Hel then glanced at the sunset before glancing back towards the girl that had called herself Nireza

”So what brings you here, gold or glory?”

Nireza listened to the other woman, who introduced herself as Helen. She had already noticed the group of thugs gathered nearby, but she paid a bit more attention to them. That particular group looked like people who would have been just as willing to attack the city if they weren't being paid to defend it. There were also guards who looked a bit more trustworthy, but not in that group.

Nireza didn't have anything against men, if they were decent. However, she didn't like the looks of some of the men gathered here.

She replied to Helen's question, "Actually, it's a combination of the two. I came here to find a job, and defending the city best fits what I like to do, and it's necessary to see this place actually rebuilt. Why are you here?"

(occ: since Victor brash has not posted for a long time I‘ve decided to cut ahead, Victor contact me if you wish to continue that topic, otherwise I will be removing you from the topic in the next few days.)

Aroma of cooked meat travelled through the air until it found Hel‘s nose. Those damn brutes, their food and their fire. Hel would give a mountain of gold for a large feast right now but sadly she was well aware that she had no such mountain, not even a hill, or a rock. If anything she had a hole, after all she was leaving debts left and right throughout imythess as she travelled during her Death job. It was after all a very bad job, completely free of everything people call wages.

The girl she was speaking to seemed decent enough, by the sound of it a noble warrior of some kind, if her words were genuine which is hard to tell these days. Liars tent to sprout in a bunch these days and somehow they always targeted Hel for easy money, Hel had no idea why.

”Simply to get gold for food. Haven’t eaten for days and I’m starving. No noble intentions or any great goals. This is simply were the gold is flowing these days and somehow it does not seem to stop at all. I wonder what these people with the deep pockets want to do with the city after its built, what have they to gain after throwing these amounts of gold, left and right?

Nireza also smelled the meat. However, she wasn't much more inclined than Helen to try getting some from the men over there. She knew that she could probably convince them to give her some food, but she also knew that they probably didn't have much respect for her, and the only way to stop them might involve her dagger.

In short, the best solution was to make her own fire to cook some things on. Nireza wasn't rich, but she always had enough for herself. When odd jobs weren't enough, there was always money to be taken from people walking by. Nireza had never had a problem with stealing, especially since she was probably going to use the money better than someone else.

"I don't know what they intend to do either, but I suspect they stand to make more money after this city's built than they're spending to rebuild it. Anyways, I think now is a good time to eat something. I'm rather hungry myself. I have enough for you if you want to eat."

(OOC: Late reply, I know. I'll try to make the next ones faster.)

Hel took a peek at the smiths as Nireza spoke; they were currently hurrying more than earlier. There was probably not much left of the work day, mere hour maybe and they were trying to finish something in time or simply hurrying to get into safety. After all the sky was quickly dimming, clouds hid the sun as she reached the ground and started to pass through it. The evening was upon us and the night would soon follow.

Hel agreed with Nireza statement in her mind. They obviously indented to get more out of the city than they put in. It was indeed most likely that the gold would come with a heavy price and the benefactors of the city would have their fingers in everything for years to come. They would probably simply drain some of the gold back through taxes, and then they could affect laws, rules and other things that mattered to them and their business. After all gold was probably not raining from the skies there must be a source to it. But Hel was thinking along the lines if the people with the deep pockets were humans, what if they weren’t? What if they were undead, like vampires for example or even worse the group of demons that called itself Divschatten. A shudder ran up Hel‘s spine.

Any doubt Hel had about Nireza disappeared in seconds as soon as she offered the food. She is an angel! After all no evil person would share food, right?

“oh, I could not possibly take your food”
Hel said with a stammer in her voice, gaping mouth and slight amount of drool on each side of her mouth. She was not one to hide feelings especially if they were related to food in one way or another.

Hel then thought more about her words and said “unless you insist?”

Nireza saw Helen's reaction to her offer of food. She said that she couldn't possibly eat another's food, but it was quite obvious to Nireza that she wanted to eat. Nireza could also see that her offer had pretty much erased any doubt the other woman had of whether she was trustworthy, although she probably didn't realize that Nireza actually was an angel (or, more precisely, half celestial). However, it would take a bit longer for Nireza to fully trust the other woman, although she figured that she probably wouldn't attack her without warning.

Nireza said, "Go ahead and eat. You seem to need the food more than I do. I have plenty for both of us, and when I need more, I have money to buy more, or I can go hunting and get more that way."

Nireza could see that the day was nearing its end, and soon the workers would be leaving the walls for their camps within the partially rebuilt city, where they would be safer during the night. However, many of the guards, including Nireza, had been hired for the night shift. Nireza had chosen the night shift because she thought that her abilities could be put to better use then, but she knew that others were guarding the city through the night for the extra gold. Considering what Helen had told her, she guessed that the woman was also planning to be guarding through the night.

(ooc: finally time to post, got a break now for few days until exams hit me at the start of next month.)

Hel settled down near a nearby fire with Nireza, shortly after she had food in her hands and started to eat in the Imythess fashion. Eating as if the food would disappear if it was not placed in the belly within few seconds, which was usually the case at bandit camps and alike were she learned this style of eating. It just seemed right to go along with traditions of the countries she was staying in so she ate like her life was waged up on it, grabbing what she was offered and eating it quickly.

At the start Nireza did not add much to a conversation, Hel used the chance to skim over the group of workers as well as the other guards sitting nearby. One appeared to be attempting to approach the fire where Hel and Nireza currently sat next to, but Hel gave him her best glare and within moments he stopped in his tracks, turned around and returned to his comrades.

Hel then promptly returned to her eating, or rather the “slaughter” of the food. That word simply described her eating habit better than simply “eating”. Hel did not like the silence much therefore she decided to spark up a conversation connected with the topic she briefly mentioned at the start of the meeting.

”Have you heard any news about rules or laws in the city? You know something that may look simple or normal but can be used to help things that fall under illegal. Something like assassinations or thievery? Or rules that sound helpful to undead even?

Hel gave Nireza a moment to answer before finishing.

"Then again the benefactors may have a hand in such matters for the years to come though, probably haven’t done much yet. “

Something was wrong; this just did not feel right. Hel glanced around, everything seemed exactly like it was but, the forest around the camp was much quieter than it had been few moments before, unnaturally so.

(ooc: Don't worry about it. My replies haven't been much faster.)

Nireza got out some food, as well as the things she needed to cook. Before she started, she handed Helen some fruit she had found on her way here so that she had something to eat while Nireza cooked the meat. However, it disappeared before Nireza had a chance to get far with the main course. The meat consisted mainly of things she had killed earlier that day, but she had also picked up some things in the city before reporting for duty.

Nireza was no expert cook, but she knew what she was doing. After several minutes, she had the meal ready to eat. She split it roughly evenly and gave half to Helen. Once again, the food was gone quickly, even though it was no small meal. Nireza was used to eating fairly quickly, but she wasn't quite as quick as Helen.

Aside from the one Helen glared at, Nireza didn't see any of the men make any attempts to approach them. She knew that if they were going to come over, they would most likely come in a group, and probably not for a bit yet.

Nireza hadn't really thought much about the laws of this city. So far, there was nothing in writing, but murderers and thieves would be dealt with as such. Nireza had never been one to care much for laws. She did what was good, regardless of the particular laws of a place.

She replied, "I haven't heard a lot about laws, but I've seen that murderers are being dealt with. As far as I know, official laws have yet to be written. I don't know how the laws will affect undead, and I probably won't take the time to figure that out unless I have a reason to. Is there any reason you asked about undead?"

It wasn't long before Nireza noticed the unnatural quietness. She didn't see anything out of place, but she remained alert. She pulled her bow off her back and an arrow out of her quiver, ready to use them if necessary.
