Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Silence.

That is the only word that could describe the situation. How or what happened here the Teljahad could only guess. As if she would want to at the moment; her cloak was pulled closer to her form, her eye on the mark on her left arm. It had stopped burning and now few could tell it was more than a normal tattoo. Upon closer examination however, one could find the skin around the mark to be blistered and sore somewhat. Those wounds would not heal for they were not meant to. This, she knew, was for certain.

She sat on some sort of carved stone in an alcove. Apparently it was a piece of the alcove itself before it fell. It was too tarnished by time and damage to figure out what the alcove held and what the piece she was sitting on was supposed to be. For now though this strange empty area was well enough to serve as a resting spot. She still was uncertain if she would be able to go back and she was uncertain as to HOW she got here in the first place but she was not one to muck about with intricate details of such things. Right now the main point was to get as much information as she could about her current situation: Which she was reviewing in her mind at the moment.

Fact: I am branded by Phyrexia. Fact: I have not been meta-morphed yet, why is still unknown. Fact:I am currently on an unknown realm, how I got here is unknown... And I'm pretty much at all I know. Least I know I'm alive and okay. I can't say the same for the Tangle. I don't know what we are supposed to be hiding but whatever it is it means the end of the war and Phyrexia's attacks of that I am almost certian. she thought looking up at the sky. Dawn was approaching quickly and the sky was no longer dark with night. It might be time to move on soon. She had slept here for countless hours safely for no one was around to disturb her but that did not mean she didn't wake up to every sound. She finally got some sleep then woke up when a strange small red creature with black legs and a bushy tail with a white tip. It looked at her for a moment then moved on. Afterward she could not return to slumber so she instead looked at the sky. Rarely was it night and she had never seen so many stars.

He had wandered into a strange place, it seemed oddly familiar but for the life of him he didn't know why. Stumbling around as he had been sleep deprived for many days now. Looking straight ahead he saw something, he couldn't quite make it out.

Was it a person? Perhaps I'm just seeing things, but maybe it's him. Should I follow? Would I be to weak to fight with my sleep deprivation? For the life of me I can't quite decide what to do.. This is not like me! I never hesitate. Perhaps this in itself is a sign, if I choose not to pursue will I be defying my cause, will I loose my knighthood? Blast! I guess I'll follow. He thought struggling to keep himself up and alert.

Coming into a clearing before a small cliff he saw the figure once more. It danced around in a frolicking manner, was his mind actually playing tricks on him? The figure seemed to take a more defined form. Slender with slightly long hair. It's hair was thin like pines and it seemed to shiver. It had dark red eyes similar to Eran and its skin was a ghostly white. "What are you? A demon? A spirit?" He asked it politely and it just kept dancing. Walking towards it, it did not move an inch. As he came face to face with it, it's mouth opened wide to reveal demonic fangs, almost decayed. It howled at him, and ran for the cliff face. Disappearing in an instant.

Eran heard a whisper, "your answers will be revealed in due time, Eran Alexander.." He knew for sure now, this was not something he thought up. He was meant to be here, but why? Why would he be led somewhere like this?

Suddenly night befell the area and he made his way towards the cliff face. Taking a seat on what appeared to be the top of some old structure he saw another figure. This figure however was a person. An actual person his eyes were not deceiving him. He stopped for a moment and realized it was a woman, and she was admiring the sky. It was remarkable the sky, he never got a chance to gaze on such a vast amount of stars. And still as he sat there quietly wondering if the woman had noticed him. He couldn't get the being that led him here off of his mind.

Who knew how long it had been since Nahel first saw the stars of Mirrodin. In fact, thinking back on it it had been days since she was back in the Tangle. Sighing she knew that sitting around here would not bring her any closer to an answer to where she was and why she was there. Not to mention the fact something was pulling at the back of her mind. What, it seemed, was something important but she could not recall it. Something about Mirrodins' history or something of that matter.

In any case, she had to move on whether or not she found whatever she was trying to remember. Glancing around she suddenly felt the familiar feeling when one was not alone but had someone nearby in the shadows. A friend of hers once called it the "l am here" signal that everyone had. Some people picked it up better than others and few could identify it enough to learn the name of the person nearby them.

She let her eyes scan the horizon and then upwards around the moss-covered ruins. THERE! A little above here there was a figure who didn't look like a monster or a phyrexian, but she had to be certain. Moving towards the figure she saw it was a man, Human by the looks of it. She tilted her head at him, he had to be about seven feet up from the ground. "Well? Who are you? You've been there long enough to know what I am. So why haven't you introduced yourself?" she said in her light accent. Watching him she readied herself for whatever he may try or whatever might happen that they were not aware of at the moment. Her brown eyes watched him as the chill air became stagnant with the wind dying.

Eran was enjoying the calm of the night, gazing into the stars as he had first done with his bride many years ago. The calm was soon broken when the woman he had noticed before called out to him, he thought it slightly rude that she would ask why he had not introduced himself when she also had not. However it was her place of rest and he supposed he could be seen as the intruder. "I am but a traveler, following my path towards the light. My path brings me towards all of the evils I must face to avenge myself and my honor."

Hearing a slight stirring behind him, likely and animal he slid towards the ledge and dropped about have a dozen feet down to where the woman was standing. Raising his hand to point at the skyline. "You know on a night like this with the stars lighting the sky, it's almost a crime to think about evil. You almost feel as if maybe mentioning evil, made you the evil that the light of the stars is shining to destroy. Nonetheless so, my name is Eran and I am a knight on his quest to destroy the evil that looms over his past. How may I help you, madame?"

The woman was different, Eran had not met many like her. She looked as though she were lost in a strange land. Either way, that figure had led him to her so there must have been a reason for their meeting, and he would figure out why he was meant to be there at this moment.

The night was dark, unnerving and chill, three things that Nahel was not used to here. Back home in the Tangle she would have been at home, well at least what she referred to as home. The Tangle was dark at night, yes. But there were her brother and sister warriors, those who protected the Tangle and its secrets, though no one ever knew what the secrets were. It was not their job, Nahel knew this fact well. It was their job to stop anyone who would try and find out what the secrets were. A duty they took seriously, even to the death.

The stranger introduced himself as a traveler, speaking of honor and destroying evils wherever they may be. Nahel caught her breath. Evils. She wondered what he knew of them, what did this new and strange world know of the evils that she had seen. And what did this world have that she knew nothing about? Would she even be able to recognize them? She gave herself a mental smack, she WOULD know such evils and she would defeat them. That was her duty after all, and no matter where she was she would find her way back home.

The man looked up at the sky and the quickly disappearing stars as the eastern horizon began to glow with the announcement that the sun would soon rise. He spoke of the stars and how they practically banished the thoughts and words of evil. This told her that he had never faced down thousands of Phyrexian abominations. They cared nothing of the light nor dark, they moved at all hours, they would not care of stars and moons and suns. And that is why all must be on guard when they arrive, it was the only way to surivive.

”I would not know. This is the first I have never seen stars. When the sky bears five suns one rarely sees night often, of course this bears the decision that the suns did not decide to come up at night and become moons. Either way you rarely saw stars, I wonder if such things even exist.” she half wondered aloud, not realizing she was speaking.

He then introduced himself as Eran, an interesting name she admitted to herself. She realized as he dropped down how tall he was. At least a foot taller than she was, maybe he was slightly taller or shorter. Nevertheless she was almost surprised at the height of this man. She had never seen any human this tall before. She gave him a nod and shrugged as she realized that he was waiting on her name. ”Nahel Thaoth of the Tangle. I am a wildrunner and guardian of the secrets of the Tangle. So what do you know of this place? What was here that is now gone? she inquired. Making small talk or discussion was not know to be one of her strong points but she should at least learn about this new strange and wondrous place that she would be calling home.

Watching the sun rise as the stars dissipated he thought on what the woman said to him, the Tangle? A world without a night? That could actually be somewhat desirable to Eran. A world without night is a world where the undead are limited in their action. And evil such as Necro lords and liches would be burdened by their very existence. "I am not sure who you actually are Nahel or why you are here. It is obvious you are a stranger, this world is broken and spoiled. And probably no place you want to be for very long. I suppose if you needed assistance to go somewhere however I may be of help."

Seeming somewhat concerned by the way she acted and spoke. He was uncertain what to think of her, like always he was cautious, what if she happened to be one of the dark he has sworn an oath to destroy?

As the sun began to rise, the cold began to vanish little by little as the rays of the sun brought a slight and familiar warmth. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched. From the shadows. No matter, he thought. Perhaps I will just see if this odd woman needs assistance and then return to my hunt. After all it never hurts to get a bit of exercise between hunts. And all he saw before him here was a possible trek through a forest to find the people that lost this obviously confused woman. He feared for her safety without her people or friends. And this Tangle place she spoke of? Was she imagining things? He just had to know.

"What is this Tangle of which you spoke?"

Taking a moment to collect his thoughts he turned to see the ruins around him become light as day broke, the light is truly a remarkable thing I must say. It is able to turn the most intimidating place calm.

Nahel was taken by surprise at Eran’s words, but soon realized it was going to be a natural reaction. He had no knowledge of Mirrodin and its ways, just as she had no grasp of the things that made Imythess unique to it. She turned and looked at the sun, one single, solitary sun. It seemed that this plane was well with just the one. Sighing she nodded, this man already figured out the problem, kind of. But it would be futile to try and say or deny anything she realized she said.

”I figured you were astute Eran. You are correct when you say that I am a stranger to this world. I do not know how or why I am here. And I do not believe that you can help me.” she replied as the sun continued to rise over the land. A chill covered her body and she shuddered as she looked around one more time Something, it isn’t right. This place feels like it has eyes in the darkness. Or is this me looking into the unknown where nothing lies? she wondered as she retuned her gaze back to Eran.

The topic soon went to what the Tangle was and she soon began to wonder how much she should really tell him. She had already started; there was now no point in denying what was said to him. What to do. I told him about the Tangle, well mentioned it. And what if Phyrexia found this place? Would it not be better for SOMEONE to know what lies in the depths of the darkness of space? What is out there that could soon come to Imythess? With a nod Nahel sighed and turned to Eran. ”This is a well told story where I come from. And…Perhaps, it could actually be the very story that may save this world that you call your home. So listen well, I shall tell it only once:

I am Nahel Thaoth, a Teljahad from the Tangle. You obviously have never heard of these places or my race. This is understandable… Because I am not from this world you call Imythess. I am from Mirrodin. A world that is very much unlike this one. A world with five orbs that alter as suns and moons; one for each color of magic, White, blue, black, red, and Green. The origins of my world are unknown to me, in fact you would probably be in shock to even lay eyes upon it. It is a world made of metal. The grass, flowers, almost anything that is not breathing is an artifact of metal. This is the world where I am from. However… no one is certain where or how it happened. Strange oil came and covered our seas, seeped up from the swamps and began to corrupt us. Beings followed them, they call themselves the Phyrexians. They believe, as much as I can tell, that the world is about survival of the fittest. But they believe also that this philosophy is flawed. Why should only some live when others die? So they are attempting to make all of creation “perfect”. And now my world is at war with them. It is said by those who know more about these creatures that they come from beyond the boundaries of Mirrodin, and they have taken other worlds and will continue to do so if they are not stopped.”
She let her words sink in and then turned and held out her arm, baring the circle and line symbol that had become the insignia for the taint.

”Phyrexis happens almost instantly. Transforming what you knew into an abomination. I was fighting them in the Tangle; I guess you could compare it to a forest of sorts. Not like the ones you have here but it will suit as a comparison. We, my race, are charged with protecting its secrets. Do not ask for I do not know what they are. However, rumors have circulated that they are coming to the Tangle because they believe that something is there that can stop them. I can only hope it to be true. They attacked us, tried to taint me, to “perfect” me but something, I still know not what it was, kept me from transforming. And… I believe that same something brought me here. The only reason I can come up with is that it is Fate. This world will be attacked someday; it is not a matter of if but when. They are going around to other worlds besides mine and when they attack you will not know what hit you. I believe until I find another reason that it is my duty to aid in protecting this realm when they come and to warn others. This I am certain, is my duty. She finished waiting for his reaction. She cared not if he believed her. The point was the same.

Phyrexia would come. And she would be waiting.

Only time would tell if there would be an army with her.

Listening to the woman speak Eran's mind began to wonder. A world.. Perfected? That would be so ideal, no evil. A world without evil. A world without evil and flaw cannot exist. Without the necessary darkness a world can't exist. And trying to perfect it is unforgivable. Still the world this woman spoke of is of no relevance to me.. I am here in Imythess, not her world and I only have a single goal. Destroy the evils that plague us all.

Turning away from the woman, " that sounds almost like the world of my dreams. Less room for evil.. But then looking at it, your world may be truly evil, yes? It obviously needs help. But my duty is to purge Imythess of the evil that inhabit it. I must not try to disgrace you with my saying so, but you haven't seen anything girl. Over my years I have seen so many unexplainable things. I suppose it's my curse.. My life is cursed to see such things. My life was spared by the most evil being I have ever met and because of it I changed. So I apologize that I cannot offer to help you aside from possibly finding a way home."

He turned back to the woman and sighed, drawing his blade from it's sheath. He wasn't trying to intimidate her by any means, he was just tired of the feeling he was being watched.

Nahel wondered what this man thought; he had to be questioning her sanity at the moment. Who wouldn’t if they heard her words? She did not have long to wait after she finished for the man spoke soon after, turning away from her eyes. He spoke of how her problems were not his, an understandable mindset, ’Yes, that is true. However, when it begins here, it WILL be your problem to worry about. I wonder how you will take it then? she wondered to herself as he continued. He spoke of things he had seen over the years, finding and destroying evil across the realm. She nodded as he tried to apologize for speaking that he had seen far worse than what she had. To that she had no words. Neither knew what horrors the other had experienced so who knew who had seen worse, however, she was certain that she would be soon shown these vile demons that Imythess harbored.

He continued to tell her that he was spared by some villain and that he was changed because of it. She did not doubt this. The world of a person was changed constantly by the decisions that they made and others around them made. She wondered when she would meet these beings. "Don't apologize. I didn't expect you to believe me or want to help to be truthful. But knowledge and information are important tools against an enemy. Since you claimed to fight darkness I figured the knowledge that a darkness might be on its way, correction, will come would be useful at some point. And I thank you for the offer to help me get back.

She didn’t flinch when she saw him pull out his blade, the fact he didn’t turn and try to impale her with it meant that it was for something else. A chill went down her spine once more and she also laid her hand on her blade. Without even turning she looked around with her eyes. Something is here. I too feel the eyes of this area upon us. She couldn’t tell were they were from but there was something hiding and watching them from the shadows. She turned so their backs faced and continued to look around. ”We know you are there… Why don’t you come out now and show yourselves. In all brutal honesty she doubted that it would work. But you never knew when it might. And at least whoever was there knew that the element of surprise wasn’t fully theirs anymore.
