Oh what a terrible night this was. This was not something Henry would have found himself doing on a night. A light snow was coming down. Scattered around the area were what were referred to as the "warning attacks" by the ones that fell them. Iced over zombies. Powered by dark and frost magic now. Word about them reached Kellen and his small perish. Henry was able to fight so he volunteered. Small squads of people formed as Kellen attempted to muster their proper militia. It would take a while but they would be able to hold off the hordes of frozen undead. Why were such damned things even in existence. They were a plague on this land. A plague that he would help eradicate. He sat on a rock as the snow fell around his yellow robes. He didn't think it was the best combat attire but he felt his priest robes would be comforting while fighting the unholy horrors of undeath. "I am merciful, just as the sun shines upon me..." Henry whispered to himself in prayer and hope that Pelor would give him and his companions strength. He lifted his head to look at the other two men that were with him. This was all he could recruit from outside of his perish. "Well, gentlemen, how long do you think until we have to fight?" He asked them in curiousity. They had chosen a spot that should be at their advantage. Walls of the ancient ruins narrowed the pathway for a mile in this direction. The organisation was almost perfect, there were a few holes in the ruins that they could slip through as they were not a single building. In front of them was an archway that is about ten feet wide. Hopefully it would funnel the undead towards them. Most of them at least. |

Marcus is sitting on the cold, frozen grown as the snow falls. He held up his unsheathed short sword and stares deeply into it. The sword fails to reflect the sun for two obvious reason: 1. It is snowing. 2. It is night time. Marcus sees this a bad omen. A dark and chilly night without Pelor's blessing of the day. He sighed and lowered his sword. "Well, gentlemen, how long do you think until we have to fight?" Marcus breathed another sigh before replying. "Minutes, seconds, hours. I have no clue, Father Grinner. I hope it is soon so I can get rid of these damned creatures." The cold ground is starting to bug him so he got up and sheathed his sword. He docked his hands at his hips and waiting for the first of the damnation to strike.

“The walls of evil close in around me. It is time that I must seek a blessing from thee in order to complete my task in your name. I am your sword, just as the Sun of Mercy's light beseeches to those of undeath, I am your shield, as the Sun of Mercy's rays protect us living from those who will to destroy us... I am Merciful, just as the Sun of Mercy Shines upon me.” A soft uttering into the wind; a prayer to Pelor in the hopes of receiving a blessing from his God. A hope that his deity would grant him power in order to battle the wave upon wave of undeath which were to soon be headed in their direction; a hope that he would survive and vanquish unholy entities for the good and all that was just. It was simple, but it was necessary. His life was devoted to Pelor; without him he was nothing but a remnant of a being once a shield for the religion, and with him he was a great warrior; a Crusader who would fight for what he believed in. These plagues of undeath which riddled the land were becoming troublesome, and he had been tasked to take part in a task to protect against a large massing force. Percival stood, motionless with the other two of his order as he awaited those whom would dare the come against them. Creatures born of darkness; plagued with ice and frost from a twisted Necromancer and were simple pawns to use as a bulk force against most mortals. Unfortunately for these, the news had reached the small parish in Kellen, and three lightwielding Pelorians had volunteered to assist in this task. Such creatures created by Necromancers were not to be hated, nor were they to be feared; simple pawns; mindless servants of a greater mind; they simply stood between the light and the Necromancer who was the true evil one behind the whole situation at hand. Percival's eyes had not been glazed over; he still lived by compassion and good. Father Grinner soon spoke, questioning how long until the battle would ensue. Percival waited for a few moments, making sure that the other in the trio, Marcus Barbarus, spoke. “Perhaps fighting will not even be necessary this eve. The blanket of darkness may cover the earth, but we remain as pillars of light in an ever present void. With luck, these creatures may not even darken these remnants further...” Standing the furthest forward of all the three, Percival looked out into the night in the direction where apparently there creatures would be making their approach from. So far it was quiet and uneventful; something which the man hoped would continue until dawn, where they would be relatively safe from most evils. In his right hand was the book The Light of Pelor, which accompanied the man with him wherever his travels took him, and though not currently in use, his mace would be used in his left to fight against the legions of undead who would be coming to ruin the night. |

Henry sighed. It was cold out. He agreed with Percival and hoped that small chance would appear. It was have been annoying to come out and stay up all night if it didn't but it was better to be cautious than having the towns raided by frozen hordes of the dead. "Luck is a great blessing from Pelor though I doubt he would give this blight a better blessing than those who will standing before it in His name." He said as he stood up off of the rock that he had taken a seat upon. He brushed his hands through his hair to try and get the cold out. His hair was freezing and only made his hands colder. He stepped forward in front of them. He focused the spell Detect Undead. "Such damned creatures that are outside of the Light should not be a challenge for those who are blessed by the Light of Pelor." Henry spoke in a hopeful tone. He believed that Pelor would not let those who spread His Light fall to these abominations. He didn't believe himself when he said it wasn't going to be a challenge though. That was just wistful thinking. Then he felt the presence of it. The Undead. His spell alerted him and he backed up a bit. He bent to pick up his mace that he laid against the rock he was sitting on. "They're coming! Get some light out!" He said as he prayed to Pelor in a whisper. Out from him came an aura of blessings. They would have higher confidence, hope and be stronger as long as they are fighting for the good. 'I wish you both well." |

Marcus groan in annoyance at Percival's unnecessary comment and muttered, "I always wanted to... 'release' these cursed souls." Marcus stood there like a statue, listening to what Father had to say. "Such damned creatures that are outside of the Light should not be a challenge for those who are blessed by the Light of Pelor." At the note of Pelor, Marcus turned around to the priest. "That is an obvious assumption. Of course we will destroy these cursed, damned souls. Also, disrespecting the bodies of the dead. I want to kill the necromancer who has done this." The annoyance and anxiousness start to overtake him. Marcus reached over to his sword's hilt and gripped it in anticipation. "They're coming! Get some light out!" Marcus quickly drew his sword out of its sheath at almost a millisecond after Father Grinner said what he said. "I wish you both well." The anticipation is tempting Marcus. "Charge," it tells him. "Kill all that you see." Marcus fought against it. "Not yet," he thought, "Not until they are closer."

The legions of undead had shown no sign of coming thus far and that was beginning to grate on Percival somewhat; if they didn't show here as he had wished, it could also mean that there were other plans and other destinations which these undead monstrosities may have been targeting with their cold, dead eyes. Perhaps them arriving here in great numbers, whilst also being a bad thing, would also be a good thing, as the information which had been given was also correct. Either way, there would be fighting against these creatures one way or another; the three holy members of Pelor were definitely the best when it came to fighting against these creatures, and when the militia being formed by Kellen came, they would surely be more than enough; perhaps even a few adventurers and/or powerful allies would be accompanying them. Percival gave a soft nod, probably unnoticed, in response to Father Grinner's first statement, choosing not to take any audible route of reply. The second statement was also somewhat true, but Percival didn't believe for a moment that destroying such a perpetual large number of these would be easy; Pelor's power was immense and would eventually come into prominence against evil, but the night was an evil place, where Pelor's reach would not be so powerful; the Necromancers were in their element at such a dark time and would most definitely be confident about what was going to happen. Of course, Percival knew he would be fine; he was a medium for Pelor, granted with powers to vanquish those who threatened the lives of good and innocents. Dark creatures bore no match to him. Percival repeated the prayer he had relayed earlier, louder the second time, as Father Grinner informed them that the undead were approaching just as original stated. So the information was correct; that was a good thing, and things would definitely go just as planned. Closing his book with a thud Percival drew his mace from his back with his left hand and held it, awaiting. Percival had always been considered 'different', due to being left-handed, but to him it was simply something which took him away from others and closer to Pelor; in the hand most used by others to fight, he held the holy book, which meant he was always connected to Pelor in body and mind. After flicking his wrist from side to side to test his mace's familiar weight, he looked out onto the soon to become battlefield. At Father Grinner's order, Percival complied instantly; after a small moment of concentration, the book in the Paladin's right hand began to glow fluorescently with a white, holy light. He did not speak, but simply awaited the approach of those who dared to come against them. |

Henry didn't give Marcus much a glance at his words. He wasn't going to stop someone for wanting to do such an act for Pelor but focusing on such could blind them from the truth of Pelor's blessings. Compassion and Mercy. He wasn't going to preach to him tonight, tonight they were Brothers in Arms for the greater light. Now that the Undead were finally coming, they had to be ready. The magic of Bless that surrounded them would be enough to make sure they hold strong. Blessings of Pelor. At the command of light, there was light. Coming from The Light of Pelor that Percival held. It gave off enough light that they could see for a good whiles in front of them. He could feel the Undead but not see them... not yet. There one was. It came into the light. They shouldn't separate but Henry stepped forward. As the Undead approached them more stepped into the light. This one was a short while in front. As it came closer Henry only held out his empty hand. He grabbed the upper head of the Undead and cast the spell Heal. The zombie's face began to melt and it seemed to feel obvious pain. These unholy creatures, these abominations, could only feel pain through Holy magic. He gripped down tightly as he kept the spell up and soon the Undead became limp. Well it was too slow to fight off hordes of Undead. He tossed the body into the mass as he stepped back a bit. "Looks like we're going to have to smash them now." He commented and swung his mace out at the nearest Undead, crushing his skull beneath the weight of his mace and strength. Two down, countless to go. |

The anxiousness and eagerness has finally overcome him. With the sword in his right hand, he gripped the hilt and held it high with the blade pointing up. He kicked his right leg back and with his left hand, he held onto his right hand, making a firm grip on the hilt. With the blade up high and the right leg back, Marcus is in his heavy blade stance. He then leaned forward and kicked his left leg into a run towards the horde in a charge while yelling with all his might. He went up to the first zombie and swung down with his blade in a heavy diagonal slash to the left. He quickly followed it with a one handed horizontal slash to the right, cutting the zombie into three. Rather than calming down from killing the first, Marcus gets even more tense and anxious. Just one kill and he is already going berserk. He completely forgot about his comrades and he charged deeper into the horde. He stabbed his blade into the neck of the next zombie then he flick his wrist to cut off its head. He then kicked the body to the ground. The blade continued over to cut off another zombie's head. Marcus went down to a kneeling position with his right knee for a very short moment to recover from the reckless attack. |

Percival had never been the best in use of Holy magics; he had always relied mainly on his skill and strength in melee combat in order to get him through situations such as the one he was faced with now. He had never been truly given a chance to express his desire to learn such things; he had been left with a single known spell as of that date; but it was one nonetheless. He had the ability to focus the light of Pelor into an object in order to make it shine with a bright light. Though it had no proof of doing so, Percival had always chosen to channel this light into his holy book, The Light of Pelor as he believed the light channelled would truly be that of Pelor himself and be much stronger against undead; though of course, it simply shared the same power as it normally would have. Faith truly was a blinding thing. Nevertheless, it helped with morale for him. Though he could not see the bulk, a stray husk, perhaps some form of scout to test the meagre defences created to fend against them, came forward and was soon decimated by the combined magic and strength of Father Grinner; almost immediately after appeared the innumerable amounts of undead which they were tasked to defend against. There was little point in making a steady advance at that moment; there were far too many to combat properly, and waiting in the ruins would be the best option if they were to funnel the horde into the area where they would have best chance against them. Percival was a firm believer that such a plan would work and even if Pelor was with them, he severely doubted he would spare them from sheer stupidity. However, it appeared Marcus Barbarus had other ideas. The paladin could only watch in horror as Marcus the other decided to rush headfirst into the large conglomerate of undead. As much as he wished to help him, he couldn't do such a thing for fear of death. After all, if he dedicated to save one man, it would leave the horde able to get past and effectively kill a thousand more. He could not be blinded by one man; even if it went against him, he could not save one man and sacrifice the lives of a thousand; that was just common sense. All he could really do was utter a prayer for his comrade in the hopes of him being spared. There was little else he could do... For now he would remain as the rearguard, making sure no zombies got past them and into the open. His light was spread forward and helped his compatriots; and for now that was all he could do until any of the undead managed to make it to his position within the back of the ruin. |

Henry was in what one might call a dance of battle. He didn't think of it as such, just surviving. That was the only thing they had to do. Survive. To survive they had to kill any who would kill them. That was the whole idea. As he thought, his mace smashed into a frozen undead's torso and shattered it. The undead fell apart. Doing it that way would take too long. He could smash their knees much easier, slowing them as they moved to crawl. That'd be a lot better than fully mobile zombies. "Sir Percival, do you think Marcus is going to come back alive?" He asked as he swung his mace low to break through a leg and then swing it through into the head of another one. He stepped back. "Even with Pelor on our side, that was just a foolish mistake." He said as he stepped on the back of a fallen Undead to keep it from going anywhere. |
