To a small furry cat foreigner like Mahou, the city known as Cascadia was a wondrous sight. Art seemed to be everywhere. Despite having no money to spend on the pictures, he still looked at them anyway. It was too bad that Mahou spent his last silver on the ride up to the floating city, but it was no worry to him, he still had enough for some bread, but since he seemed to be stuck in Cascadia for the time being, he should be able to find a good job for now. The magical cat’s attention to the paintings stopped only momentarily when a crowd began to form down the street from where he was, the clamoring was what had caught his attention, so he began to walk over to the crowd and see what was going on. Unfortunately, due to his small stature, he couldn’t see much past the people that were considerably taller than he was. For several minutes, Mahou tried to find a way to see what was going on past the crowd, before he eventually found a stack of crates to sit on, and more importantly rest. His red eyes scanned the ground for what was going on for just a minute before the same red eyes caught sight of a hand pointing up to the sky. Feeling quite silly, Mahou looked up to see a show of flying creatures, a wonderful performance. A wide smile was cast onto Mahou’s inquisitive face as he watched the show… before things seemed to turn wrong. A drake seemed to frighten one of the birds that had been leading its own formation, and within a moment, the birds began breaking away, flying towards the city, calling out to the skies before spitting out lightning bolts, one of which hit the crate that Mahou had been sitting comfortably upon. He hit the ground hard, but the fall had only managed to make him upset as he stood up , making several hand-signs before shooting a bolt of magical energy at one of the birds… This seemed to do little more than make it angrier as it turned to the cat and began spitting more bolts. Without hesitation, Mahou grabbed his bag and began running frantically. |

Silas continued to walk at a steady pace up what he hoped would be the last hill in his journey. And though he had traveled more days then he bothered to count and was sore from said days of travel he could not help but smile. His smile came due to many reasons. For once his travels had gone by rather uneventful, no odd werewolves or crazy fairies. And at last with a sigh of relief as he made his way to the top of the hill he overlooked his destination, Cascadia. Often on his travels did he wonder how such a city came to exist, and standing before it now did nothing to erase his nagging questions. He knew that only powerful magic could keep the city skyward but it still looked odd there floating above the heavens with it's many waterfalls spilled from it crashing upon the earth below. Checking his equipment he set out once more uncertain how he would find a way up to it. The Midwinter Festival, or what was known as the Festival of the Clouds within Cascadia was the reason for his arrival. For once he was going to have a bit of fun and try his hardest to now dwell in the evils of the land. As he made his way toward the city above him he began to notice others around him. He knew that celebrations such as this would draw in large crowds. He paid them little mind as he continued. Coming to a clearing he saw a large gathering of people going about. It seemed that this was where one would go to gain entrance to the city above. Observing the commotion from a distance he saw that large groups were being transported by magic while others rode a top all sorts of winged beasts. Pushing himself through the crowd he managed to purchase with some of the money that he carried a ride up to the city from a man who then lead a Gryphon over to him. Already saddled and ready to go Silas placed one boot in some sort of leather holding and swung himself over and placed his other foot in an identical on on the other side. And with that the Gryphon rose into the air and made it's way toward the city, during which he found that he rather enjoyed flying and the freedom he felt upon it's back. It was much like when his hawk Tobias shared his vision with him. The ride was much shorter then he liked and he soon found himself upon the floating city. Lowering himself from the Gryphon he gave it one last look before it took off again. Looking forward he saw that much of the celebrations had already began. Weaving through the crowds of people he made his way forward. At last finding a place to sit on the roof of one of the many small buildings in the area he looked to the sky. A parade of sorts was taking place above them, filled with all manner of winged creatures from griffins to pegasi, thunderbirds, and even a few drakes. As he watched his hawk Tobias joined him resting upon his shoulder. Today was his day more then his own. But then he noticed something was wrong. As the parade above dissolved into confusion the thunderbirds and all other creatures scattered in many directions all over the city. It seemed that one of the Drake's had spooked the lead Thunderbird and now they flew around the city in a state of panic spitting lightning at random and causing an even greater panic among the people below. Jumping to his feet he looked around for something he could do to help. Reaching the streets below he went for his sword, Isidar Mithrim and drew it. He did not relish the idea of harming such beasts but he would need to protect himself. He then made his way through the streets packed full of panicked people. |

Running, right now, that’s all Mahou was thinking about, running, running, running! The thunderbird he had hit with the magical bolt didn’t seem to take too well to being shot with magic, but at least it seemed to be somewhat disoriented. All the lightning it had shot at the cat-person had missed, but not by much, and being a target at all was way too close for comfort to begin with. On the plus side, Mahou’s small stature made it easy to get lost in the crowd and away from the enraged electric avian. He ducked down an alley, looking back over his shoulder only to see the bird still chasing after him, and getting ready to fire another bolt. Quickly as he could, the cat jumped, managing to just miss the lightning before running out into the middle of the street and stopping, his red eyes caught at the sight of all of the thunderbirds flying about in a fury. It didn’t look like this was going to end any time particularly soon. The cat let out a sight before turning around. Things were backwards, the bird wasn’t supposed to chase the cat, and he was about to show the thunderhead how the world was supposed to work, even for magical creatures like them. Again, Mahou quickly made the hand signs for the arcane bolt, each motion gathering more energy before he fired at the bird, hitting it, but only stunning it for a moment. He didn’t waste any time, quickly forming the hand signs again, shooting the thunderbird for now a third time. It still didn’t fall to the ground, swooping up just before it’s beak met with the stone. One more blast came from the magical cat, and the bird was finally unconscious. A victorious smile came upon his face for having felled his chaser, he couldn’t help but throw his arms up to cheer as he shut his eyes to savor the moment. The feeling didn’t last long as he heard the crackle of electricity in front of him, a bolt from a bird barely grazed his left ear, hitting the ground in front of him. He turned around, all joy in victory gone as he saw three of the thunderbirds now chasing after him to avenge their unconscious ally… Maybe Cascadia wasn’t the greatest place to be after all… Mahou quickly turned tail (literally) and ran as fast as he could. If he could scream, he’d be joining the chorus of everybody else. He kept running until he saw a human with a sword, and figuring that it must be some skilled warrior come to aid in subduing the birds, ducked behind him, pointing a clawed finger at the trio chasing after him. Mainly, though, Mahou was using the relatively big person as a shield so he could prepare his spell, not wasting any time for pleasantries, Mahou shot a magical bolt from behind the man at one of the birds, temporarily stunning it. At this rate, Mahou was going to pass out before he knocked out even one more of the birds. |

After making his way through another crowd of people he paused for another moment. Everything was in such a state of chaos it was hard to tell what was going on, and hard to hear due to the background screaming and crashes as lightning bolts struck at everything that was not fast enough to avoid them. And there he stood, sword in hand and unsure how to proceed. He had drawn his sword to protect himself but did he really want to use it against such beautiful creatures. He had always had a strong affinity towards birds of all sorts and to strike at one, even in self defense seemed wrong, almost criminal. He would need to find another solution that stopped the madness but left the thunderbirds mostly unharmed. Now however, one way or another was time for action he thought. He had been standing idle for far too long he realized as he quickly dropped to the ground to avoid a lightning bolt fired from a passing thunderbird. He would have to try and end things quickly. He was sure that he could dodge the lightning but others would not be so lucky. Glancing around once more to determine in which direction would be best he noticed a small figure mixed in with a few others, and behind him no less then three of the thunderbrids were following him spewing lightning blots every which way. As the people scrambled past the smaller of them which took on the appearance once some sort of human shaped cat took shelter behind him. As the thunderbirds closed in the small cat person fired off something of his own design. He wasn't sure what type of magic that was but it did nothing but stun on of them for a few moments. Not having the ability to take on three of them at once, even if he disregarded his feelings in harming them he did the only logical thing to do at the moment. Seeing as his actions would leave the little cat person easy pray he quickly turned around and grabbed him as well before diving into a small side alley. As Silas hit the ground on his side he looked toward the street, but the thunderbirds didn't give chase. With a sigh of relief even though he knew this ordeal was far from over he went back onto the main path. The three thunderbirds in question were no longer in sight, though many others could be seen all over. Looking down the path further it seemed the two of them owed their lives to a gryphon who now occupied much of the street. As he approached a closer inspection revealed that that there were numerous scorch marks across it's body. It must have been what fought off the thunderbirds he thought. Though it came at a high price. As Silas moved closer in order to use what magic he could to heal it's wounds he noticed the saddle still upon it's back. It must be the same gryphon that I rode up here on he thought amazed. In his efforts to heal the gryphon he had all but forgotten the little cat person. After healing several of the burns he looked back toward where he had last seen it. "Are you alright back there?" he asked and then once again turned his attention back toward the gryphon and It's injuries. |

Mahou wasn’t sure if he had managed to hit the same one of the birds twice or not, he wasn’t even sure if he had hit any of them except for the first one that had chased him; he was just shooting at them to try to get them to stop shooting at him. Sure, he might have been the instigator… wait, no he wasn’t! The first bird shot the crate he was sitting on! It was these stupid birds that started this magic back-and-forth. Mahou made another set of hand signs before throwing another magic missile at the birds, managing to hit one. Unfortunately with the number of them flying around the city, stunning just a handful of them probably wasn’t going to do much. At least he had seemed to do one thing smart so far, hiding behind the tall human meant that he wasn’t getting shot at, no, it just meant he was getting tired and put another person in danger of the stupid birds because he needed somewhere to hide and saw somebody with a sword… On second thought, what else was he supposed to do? Not much, he was kind of expecting the human to do more, maybe swing his sword at them. As the magical cat-person was lost in his own thoughts, his back completely turned away from the situation he had just been firing magic missiles at, the world suddenly began to move to the side, and turned on end, then there was a wall, and a thud. Mahou’s eyes were wide open as he looked around to try and figure out what had just happened. Apparently hiding behind the human wasn’t the worst idea after all. For a while, he got to use the person as a human shield, and then said human shield dived with Mahou in hand to the nearest alley. Ugh, Mahou wasn’t particularly a fan of simply objectifying a being as a human shield, it just didn’t seem right, but given the current situation of birds chasing cats, nothing was particularly right about today, now was it? Mahou scrambled to his feet, looking around even more, his ears laid down against the rim of his pointy hat and his tail was frizzed up. He had no clue what had just happened to the bird that were chasing them, but after seeing the human who had possibly just saved both of their lives, he began to follow the person. In the street, there seemed to now be a very large gryphon. Mahou stopped several yards away from it, looking up in awe. While it might be normal sized for a gryphon, to a barely four foot tall cat person, it was huge. However, it seemed that the gryphon was in fact for saving their lives, but at least the human had done his best, maybe even gave room for the large flying creature to land in the street. The cat’s look of shock quickly turned to one of joy as his tail returned to its natural non-frizzy state and his ears perked back up. When the person asked if he was alright, Mahou quickly nodded, clapping his hands together to silently thank the man for seeming to not be angry about being a shield, and for saving Mahou despite being used as a shield. With one magical creature to fight off several other magical creatures, and probably even alongside these two, (since now Mahou wasn’t going to leave the human’s side willingly until this fiasco was over,) it would seem that they now held the advantage in saving citizens from the terror of the lightning spitting birds! Mahou couldn’t help himself, he moved to climb up on the saddle that was strapped to the gryphon to strike a somewhat heroic pose, which looked silly coming from a cat person, pointing forward and onward to dealing with the next set of birds! |

The little cat responded with a nod and a single clap of his hands. He didn't speak however. Weather he couldn't or just choose not to was unknown to him. It would be something he would have thought more on if the given situation were not as it is. The chaos of the city left little room for idol thoughts. Once the gryphons wounds were healed he would be able to take to the air and bring the fight to the thunderbirds. But looking to his sword he knew that he could not bring himself to use it. Sheathing it once more he continued his work. Perhaps after he was in the air he could sight the source of all this. He would be hard pressed to do so however while the thunderbirds continued unchecked. They would need to deal with the majority of them first. With the last the the gryphons wounds healed it lowered itself to the ground to allow him to mount up. The small cat person however had beaten him to it. Good thing he is so small that the two of us can fit upon the saddle and it's back he thought as he himself mounted the gryphon sitting upon the saddle behind the little cat. This way he would be free to use his magic without the whole of himself being completely in the way. Once strapped in he looked to cat once more. "I hope your ready for this, though I suppose even if you do fall you'll likely still land upon your feet." he stated trying to lessen the tension a little. He wasn't sure how it would take to heights. "Though if we're to high I don't think that will matter much" he finished as the gryphon reared and took to the sky. Once again Silas couldn't help but feel more at easy even in such chaos. He had always felt more comfortable in the air then on the ground upon his own two feet. From above he could see much of the city. The thunder birds had caused quite a bit of damage already given the short amount of time that had passed. Taking the rains as one would a horse so he could better guide he took note a a group of four thunderbirds flying slightly below there current position. He also saw that the city's guards were at last out in larger force. Many of which were upon the rooftops some with bows and others with large nets. Struck by an idea on how they might stop the thunderbirds without causing any permanent harm he prepared to enact it. "Hold on tight!" he shouted to the cat as he leaned forward. The gryphon as if commanded went into a steep dive. The four thunderbirds below did not see till almost too late. Flying though their crude formation the four split, fleeing in opposite directions. And with a little luck one of the thunderbirds was now heading lower toward the city below. Pulling on the reins again he kept below the thunderbird so that it could not flee any further toward the ground. As they rapidly approached a group of guards from two opposite buildings he shouted to them to get there attention. "Throw your net between the buildings when the bird comes near stretch it out flat so that it flies into it." And just as planned as the thunderbird flew between the buildings the net was there to meet it. It's panicked movements only caused it to become trapped even further. And as the guards lowered it to the street below Silas flew by on to the next encounter. Well that takes care of one he thought. lets just hope we can catch the rest as easily. Mahou was ready to shoot some thunderbirds, well, at least as long as the Gryphon would be able to take attacks from the electric magic birds. Mahou was caught up in his thoughts, he didn’t even pay attention to when the man was getting on the gryphon, no, Mahou was busy thinking of whether or not the gryphon would eat him if it realized that he was even there, then again, it couldn’t well reach around to its back, could it? His attention to this thought process was quickly taken away when the human mentioned something about falling and Mahou landing on his feet. Despite being a magical walking cat born of a race of other magical walking cats, one thing Mahou absolutely did not possess, was balance. At the mention of height making it rather irrelevant if Mahou landed on his feet or not, he quickly plopped down onto the saddle, gripping his claws tightly into the saddle, right before the flying beast began to take to flight. He had absolutely no intention of falling off. Cats weren’t particularly meant to fly, but despite what one might think, Mahou was only scared for about a moment, the time it took to ascend into the air. The cat looked over the side of the gryphon, his claws still dug deeply into the saddle as he looked upon Cascadia from above. It was a wondrous sight to say the least, even seeing the damages the thunderbirds had caused and the electrified fliers running rampant across the city… Where was he going with this thought? However, something caught his eye. It wasn’t the group of thunderbirds below them, it was something else, at one of the damaged beings. It looked like people with swords, but they weren’t guards, they had large bags, lightning seemed to shoot from one, others didn’t shoot anything. Again, the cat’s attention was taken when the human warned to hold on tight, which Mahou was already doing, but digging his claws just a bit more into the saddle couldn’t hurt, right? The gryphon went into a steep, steep nosedive, and it was now that Mahou saw the thunderbirds that were below them, and figured for the human’s plan to break them up. Now they were flying just below one of them, and apparently the person that Mahou was riding the gryphon was shouting a plan. This also meant that now was the time that the magical cat would enjoy the least, as he took his claws from the saddle, gripping onto the large flying creature with his legs as he looked up at the thunderbird, quickly making several hand movements before firing a magical bolt to steal its attention away from the fact it was about to fly into a net. The plan seemed to work, the thunderbird looked down at the three (three being Mahou, the human and the gryphon) rather than where it was flying as it quickly got entrapped into a net, tangling up, it was captured. Mahou didn’t spend too much time celebrating, quickly remembering what he saw he turned to the direction he had seen the men with swords and bags heading, pointing eagerly to try and tell the one controlling the Gryphon to move in that direction. From what Mahou had heard, men with bags and swords that showed up during disastrous situations like this weren’t trustworthy people, which meant that they might be behind the Thunderbirds going wild. |
