Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The spell completed its deadly work within seconds. Nkiruka rushed over to intercept them, stopping in front of Serelle a few seconds after she was knocked back. Black blood flowed up the length of the mercenary's broken lance, slowly regenerating it.

From what Nki could see, an explosion had torn apart the cultist's insides, barely held back by his skin. Rippling muscles pressed against his limbs and torso. Rows of spines and bone ridges tore up areas of the shell, the empty space under the skin glowing a pale red through the holes. A chain of vertebrae pushed through his robe into a whiplike tail twice as long as he was tall. The once-human creature turned its burnt-out eye sockets to the two girls, opening its gaping, tooth-filled maw to release a cacophonous scream. Her eyes widened in realization: this was a demon. One had to be beyond insane in order to allow such a terrible creature to possess one's own body -- especially in such a violent, soul-destroying way.

The human-skinned demon stepped forward, the soles of its feet burning demonic script into the rotting wood panels of the stage. Nkiruka braced herself for an attack. It was much faster than she anticipated, slamming into her body and throwing her onto her back several feet away within fractions of a second. She wrestled with it, using her lances to fend off flashing white claws and teeth. Through brute force she pushed it off of her.

Nki winced, a searing pain in her chest. The demon had slashed her across the torso; steam rose from the wounds which were slowly, inexplicably smoldering. Despite the pain she was able to get back onto her feet, visibly angered.

Serelle pressed herself from the ground, claws scratching against seemingly ancient stone. She rose to her knees, and stared at the creature assaulting Nkiruka. Human flesh hung awkwardly off of its sleek grey bulk, a lattice of bone spikes stuck out of it at awkward angles. Serelle pushed herself off her knees as Nkiruka hurtled past her. The beast rushed forwards. Serelle charged it, catching it across the waist. They tumbled over, rolling down a few steps before the demon pinned her down. It began hacking at her, and she returned the favor. Blood sprayed across steps and rotting seats. Serelle shouted, a mixture of pain and rage. Her claws impacted one of the demon's arms, and she clamped down on it. Her other arm grabbed the demon's other arm, and she pulled the enraged creature in close.

"Nkiruka!" Serelle screamed.

Snarling, Nkiruka fought through the burning pain in her chest and pressed forward. She arrived behind the demon just as Serelle screamed her name, approaching at an angle. The demon growled, whipping its tail to trip her, but she stomped on it to keep it pinned. Her follow-through was instantaneous, slamming the blood-lance on her right arm through one side of its ribcage and out the other. Breaking it off, she circled around the outside of the demon.

It thrashed against its restraints like a desperate animal, belching blood. Nkiruka took up the lance on her other hand, using it to wrap around the front of the demon's neck and pull it up and away from Serelle. She then slit its throat. It continued struggling before its body relaxed a few moments later. Gripping it by one of its bone spikes, Nkiruka pulled the demon off of Serelle and tossed it aside like a ragdoll. As it died, the misshapen muscles and altered bones burned to ash, leaving only a pile of robes and skin behind.

Nkiruka's lances melted back into blood, and she sheathed her knives. She looked down at Serelle, frowning slightly. "You'll live." She offered her hand to help the severely wounded girl up. "Are yours burning, too? Hurts like hell."

The shopkeeper of the exotic weapons store was in the middle of cleaning off the display cases when he saw two women appear. Their bandages were still stained with blood. He smiled. "Did you get them all?" he asked.

Nkiruka sighed. They hadn't managed to catch every last one and kill them. In the heat of battle, she alone had allowed two men to escape with their lives: one she slashed across the face, and the other whose hand she broke. "Make sure dispatches are sent to the Taras Catacombs periodically."

"Splendid. Here's your reward." He handed her a coinpurse. Nkiruka returned to Serelle, looking down at the unassuming bag. "You did help a lot. How big a cut do you want?"

They walked out of the shop together. She stopped Serelle from going further. "Wait. One thing." The mercenary glanced over Serelle, remembering her previous appearance. "I noticed something down there. You fight like a berserker. I could see you grinning and all that. Maybe you should look into getting some training. People can help you manage all that emotion, make it work for you in a fight." She was rambling. "Eh, nevermind. Go back to your family, kid."

Serelle struggled to dodge the beasts's snapping jaws, pressing her face past its. They grappled until it went suddenly still, and Nkiruka threw it with all her might. Serelle rose to her feet, wrapping claws around Nkiruka's similarly bloodied arm. Lacerated in a dozen places, her blood dripping alongside the blood of others. She scratched at wounds that smoked slightly, like embers had embedded themselves within her skin. All the while she smiled, a wide smile.

"Oh, I'll be fine," Serelle said. She plucked idly at the slim few strands of her dress. Her body shifted back to its original form of a slim and short girl. She began to leave the tunnels.

"Yeah, I'm burning up too. We should get this fixed," Serelle suggested, her voice contorted with pain.

Serelle sat on the weapon merchant's counter, bloody bandages covering nearly every part of her body. The albino girl let Nkiruka do the talking, there was no reason to interact. When offered a cut, she withdrew a Taras gold coin, a silver coin, and a copper coin. She pressed one of her own istani gold coins back in, assuming they were both of a similar value. They left.

Serelle held the coins up, spinning one of the little things around in the light fading afternoon light. Taras coppers were different than Istani coppers. Different symbols, different focuses. It interested the sheltered girl in a way she couldn't quite explain. Something captured her imagination about such a typical object. Nkiruka spoke to her, and her attention bolted to the mercenary.

"I suppose I do fight like a berserker. But I'll probably never have to fight again, nor will I get a chance for training," Serelle mused. Her face took on a somber visage, and she stared at her sandals. They walked for a while longer.

"If I ever get the chance, I'll get training. Hopefully from you, Nkiruka," Serelle said, slightly more cheerfully. She turned down one street and began walking towards the palace district. She glanced at Nkiruka one last time.

"I'll see you later, Inky," Serelle stated with a slim smile. She walked into the district's rows of tall buildings. Men took a moment from their work to light torches and lanterns, laughing and joking with one another. The scene widened her smile. One of the workers on the scaffolding, a woman in bandages up to her eyes, waved down to her.

"Need anything?" She asked. Serelle glanced up at the great basket of stone blocks next to her and shook her head. The woman looked around momentarily before beckoning her closer. Serelle walked towards the edge of the platform. The woman handed her a torch, which had Serelle standing on the tips of her toes to reach.

"There's a few more lanterns down on the street there, if you don't mind." She said. Serelle nodded and went to help her. She did this for two reasons. Serelle wanted desperately to avoid her family for a little longer, and she also wished to help the formerly great city back on its feet.

"You never know when you'll have to fight again," Nkiruka said, continuing to walk with her. When Serelle suggested that she train her, the mercenary humored her with a half-hearted chuckle. Doubtful they'd ever see each other again. When they finally reached a crossroad leading to the palace district, Serelle turned and bid Nkiruka farewell. "Stay out of trouble." She gave a little nod and continued down the road, toward the outer city.

She was a good kid. Sheltered, a little crazy -- the former probably influenced the latter -- but good nonetheless. If she was a career warrior, Serelle's strange powers would be devastating. The way she lost herself in battle would get her killed someday, though.

Nkiruka shoved her hands into her pant pockets and continued down the road, scanning the buildings for a nice inn of some sort. Now that she had enough money to stay afloat for a little while, her first order of business was to get cleaned up, eat something, and sleep.
