Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Thump. Crunch, crunch. Thump. Crunch, crunch. That was the only sound resonating through the ruins of the old cathedral. It was almost completely silent, keeping with the reverent aura. Leaves covered the dirt, being blown around by a slight breeze. That would explain the "crunch" that sounded every time a footfall was placed on these hallowed grounds. The sun had risen from the horizon only hours ago, being as the time was around eight in the morning. The walk was unplanned but it felt right when he awoke that day.

He looked around as he strolled through the piles of rubble lying everywhere. I wonder why I decided to come to this old place. There's obviously nothing here and nothing is probably going to happen for a good while, he thought while he took in his surroundings. Then he decided to make a little fun himself. Since there was no one around to judge him, he took the opportunity to act a little "off-kilter" some might call it, but he just called it being crazy. So he pulled his staff up and took it in both hands. He made a sweeping motion, imitating the action of swinging a sword.

He must've underestimated his own strength because the sweep of his staff sent him flying to the ground. It was lucky that he didn't hit any part of him on the surrounding ruins. As he laid on his back, he let out a chuckle and rolled onto his side in order to push himself up off the ground. When he had returned to his previous vertical position, he put his staff back down onto the ground, leaning on it for support. I thought that I didn't really need this staff to get around. I guess I've become dependent on its steadiness. Figures. he thinks as he lets out another chuckle and starts on his walk again. No more being crazy for me, at least for a while.

The loud crunch that came when he clumsily fell to the ground concealed another crunch, a crunch of rubble as someone walked onto it. Amadeus didn't hear the crunch, too caught up in his own childishness. Maybe instead of playing around, he should practice his listening skills.

The crunching of the leaves seemed to reverberate on the ruins sound like an entire army was marching towards the Cathedral--or maybe it was just me. I had been a bit jumpy since finding myself in this strange new place. It was all so much like home, and yet completely different. That, I guess, is what I wanted. Which also meant I needed to stop referring to that place as home. It was no longer that, it was just a place in my past that I was working to forget. It was time to immerse myself in this place. That was, probably, part of the reason that I had come to these ruins. There was no better way to learn about a place than learning it's history.

So far I had only seen a handful of people as I traveled from the shore. A traveling merchant had given me a basic lay of the land and general directions to these ruins. I would find myself a city eventually, but I wasn't ready for that yet. Eventually I would get a job, get some money, get a ship, and once again return to my true trade as a pirate. That would take time, though--probably a great deal of time.

Scratching my chin I wrinkled my nose at the great deal of stubble there. It could almost count as a beard--I needed to get rid of that. My hair had grown out a good bit as well--long enough now that I had managed to pull it back into a slight tail with a few shorter strands hanging around my face. I rather liked that and figured I'd keep it. I'd always thought keeping my hair short was a hassle.

Stepping through the doorway the old cathedral I stopped dead raising an eyebrow as I did. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes. There was a man using a staff as a play sword. Normally I might say practice sword, but no, there was no practice involved in what he was doing, it was play. I doubted he'd ever held a sword, or at least not for a very long time.

I opened my mouth to say something to the man on the floor, but after a second I closed it. I hadn't the slightest idea what to say. Instead I just chuckled and clapped my hands a couple of times at his obvious 'grace'.

As soon as he took a step, the leaves crunching underfoot (as always), he heard three slow claps. The sound of hands meeting each other in mock applause seized his chest. He had had no idea that someone else was here, and had obviously seen him making a fool of himself. What kind of freak would sit there and watch like that without saying a word? Well, I guess I really don't have any room to call anyone a "freak". he thought absently. His hand was frozen on the head of his staff, poised just above the ground. The staff was slightly touching a single leaf before it was whisked away to who knows where by the breeze. The peach hairs on the back of his neck, although sheltered by his high collar from the breeze, were standing on end. He shuddered slightly and turned around slowly.

What he saw when he turned around, to say the least, startled him even more. He was sure that his features didn't make the man feel at home either but no matter. The man before him stood a little under 7 feet tall and carried his weight well. Amadeus couldn't tell of what race or age he was. I'm going to have to ask that later on. he thought, putting it on his to do list. His longish hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail, leaving a few auburn stragglers around his face. His chin was inhabited by stubble that had obviously been ignored as of late, for it had grow quite long. His somewhat rugged appearance didn't cover up his natural beauty. His green eyes shone brightly underneath his brows, like emeralds poking out of the earth. His bronzed skin was a stark contrast to Amadeus' milky white skin inked with meaningful tattoos (although today they were covered by his choice of wardrobe). Amadeus liked him. He liked him a lot.

The rugged man seemed to find his little show of foolishness amusing. He, himself, found it excruciatingly embarrassing. His yellow eyes squinted in a grimace under perfectly arched eyebrows. A nervous chuckle rose within him and escaped through his partially open mouth before he could stop it. He quickly thought of how to cover the blunder and took a fully sarcastic bow, folding his arm into himself and bending down to almost touching the floor of the cathedral with his manicured blue spikes on top of his head. As he straightened, he flung his arm out to the side and spoke with a strong tenor voice, Welcome, one and all, to Amadeus' traveling comedic relief show. Take your seat. Take your seat. The show is about to begin. He let out a loud chuckle, closing his eyes and holding his stomach, completely immersing himself in this show of sarcasm.

The momentary pause was noted, but I couldn't help but give him credit for hos good recovery. I had obviously taken him by surprise, and thought I saw a note of embarassment., but I couldn't be sure. I was a bit surprised when I saw him front-on. He looked...different. Yeah, different was a good word for it. I had never seen someone with hair quite like his, or tattoos for that matter. The eyes were the only strange part of his apperance that I was familiar with. Sarcasm, on the other hand, was something I was exceptionally familiar with. As he bowed I chuckled a bit, crossing my arms and listening to his little introduction of sorts. Amadeus? What an odd name. I'd met a demon once named Asmodeus, and that had not been a good experience. Still, I would give this man the benifit of the doubt in that he was not like said demon in any way.

Glancing around I raised on eyebrow before my eyes met his. "Well, I woul' bu', I'll guess tha' ifin I sa' in one a' these I'd find me bein' the comedic relief," I said, vaguley wondering how he would react to my rather thick accent. I had the speech of a seaman, especially a pirate. Many times in the past people, especially ones of an upper class, heard me speak and immediately decided I was no longer worth their time. If I was to judge this man by his manner, clothes, and speech, I was going t obet that he was upper class, or at least had been at some point.

I no longer assumed people were as young as they looked. Too many people out there were like me in that they looked centuries younger than they were. Though, where I just looked to be in my early thirties, this man generally looked ageless. It piqued my curiousity as to who and what he was. In the back of my mind I rather hoped that thsi would be one of those few times that my curiousity did not, in fact, get me into trouble. Far too much of the trouble in my life had started with me being curious about something that I probably shouldn't have. Story of my life.

The man seemed quite amused by Amadeus' little show. He looked around and then looked into his yellow eyes. He spoke then, but Amadeus could barely understand him. He had a very thick seaman accent, and he wasn't too familiar with that side of Imythess. He wondered if the other man had been here before. Amadeus didn't came here often, only every now and then. He could remember when this cathedral was up and running. In its golden age, this church was the meeting place of many, many holy ones and humans alike. Its spires had reached so high in the sky that it looked like they would punture a cloud at any moment. When the sun had shone through the tall, stained glass windows, a rainbow would errupt on the floor of the cathedral, warming the building and its occupants. The pews had been magnificantly carved of the most expensive wood and had been as smooth as the stones at the bottom of a creek. But those days were over and gone. His moment of nostalgia gone, Amadeus cleared his throat.

I'm sorry. I don't think I quite understood what you have just said. Something about your own comedic relief perhaps? No matter. We are here now. So what exactly brought you here today? Amadeus spoke loudly so that his voice would carry over the space between him and the other man. His hands instinctively went to smooth his clothes. Today, he had picked a rather unusual ensemble: a dark blue vest and waistcoat with a high collar, and matching pants. His shirt was cream colored and a gold watch hung from a chain coming out of his vest pocket. He looked as though he had just come out of a book about the victorian age. His black painted fingernails, blue spiked hair, and makeup were the only things that were perhaps out of place in his appearance.
