| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Kaess had come to his father’s mountain again. This time he had brought Shalia along. It was unfortunate, but she hadn’t passed through his father’s barriers yet, so she would have to go the long way. “No I have told you about this as much as I can. There isn’t really anyway to know what you will encounter along the way to my dad’s place, but none of it should be permanent or harm you. I would go with you, but my dad sort of forbids it for many reasons. Well good luck and I will see you at the top.” Soon after he flew off to the back door to his dad's place hoping Shalia wouldn't get too angry at his dad's pranks. The path by foot was long and winding though some tall rocks. After a bit it looked like there were two paths. One was a steep path with a bunch of under growth and another was a gently sloping path, with a few rocks scattered in the way, with a light breeze blowing across it. Instinct would probably give an equally bad feeling of traveling either path. The first path would smell sickly sweet, while the other path seemed to have a noticeable lack of scent. The only other option was to try and scale the mountain directly, but you would have to be good at mountain climbing and have some experience to do that. The weather was fairly nice for the moment, but there were some clouds surrounding the mountain that could give off some rain or even snow. Edited by redfiver, Wed Dec 15, 2010 5:34 am.

Once again Shalia questioned her sanity for following Kaess. This time she was to go to a dragon’s lair, Kaess’ father. She had been assured that the dragon would not try and attack her, but she still was not keen on meeting the creature who sired the foolish half-dragon. She could only imagine what this one’s father was like. Shalia did not like how narrow the path way was at all. It barely gave her any room to draw her blade if need be. Her lavender eyes kept a sharp look out, expecting to be attacked at any moment. She halted when she came to the fork in the road. The tiefling cursed under her breath as the half-dragon had of course not told her about this. She wondered if both paths would lead to the same destination…or if they were merely different means to test a traveler. She looked between the paths. The first with the steep hill did not appeal to her. It was not the incline that put her off, but the smell. It bothered her. In her experience such things as that smell would dull the other senses or make one sick. Instead she chose the other path. She knew the open area exposed her to dangers, but she at least could use her sword and was not distracted by the scent. As she walked on she moved at a cautious pace, eyes scanning every rock and hiding place. |

As Shalia walked along the path it slowly winded back and forth and a light breeze kept blowing along the path. The wind was odd, but what was odd about it was hard to tell. It almost seemed to laugh as it went around each bend in the path. Shalia would have to watch her feet as the stones on the path were numerous and could easily trip a person up if they were not careful. After about an hour of walking, Shalia would find herself feeling lighter and lighter. Eventually she would find that she actually was getting lighter and with time even the light wind might blow her back down the path. If she managed to make it the top, despite almost being blown back down, she would see a sign. One pointed forward on the path and said “Monolith Thing”. Another arrow pointed at the wall. It said “This is a Wall, No really it is a wall. What do I have to say it again. This is a wall nothing else!” A third Arrow pointed up and said, “You may want to try this way.” If she didn’t stop herself she would bounce along the rocky path, but remarkable it wouldnot bruise or hurt her at all. Once she was blown all the way down to the bottom there would be a sign saying, “Good effort try again or take the other path. The other path is always fun. I talk too much…. well have fun. Sincerely, The Mountain” Edited by redfiver, Sun Jan 9, 2011 4:35 am.

Shalia picked her path carefully as she moved up the mountain path. Her eyes scanned the entire place watching carefully for any unexpected encounters. The wind was odd. And she did not like it at all. In her experience when something seemed out of place, danger was very near. Then with Kaess…a lot often seemed out of place. As she travelled on she felt somewhat light. She figured it was due to the altitude. With the air containing less oxygen it was not uncommon for this feeling to occur for one unused to the environment. Still she was not enjoying the feeling. Then she saw a sign. She raised a brow as she looked at it. Someone seemed to have an odd sense of humor by placing this thing here. And she had a feeling she could guess who that ‘someone’ was. She had a bad feeling that a certain dragon was behind this whole experience. Then without warning she found herself falling back down the hill. She pulled out her sword and forced it into the ground to try and slow her decent. But this tactic did not seem to work that well and she continued to fall down the hill. Soon she found herself at the bottom and quite angry. She stood up and brushed the dust of her clothing. A part of her was not too surprised to find herself uninjured. She then saw another sign and glared at it. Hair bright red now from anger she started up the hill once more, this time ready for was at the top and made sure she would not be blown off this time. |

Starting back up the mountain Shalia could eventually figure out that by griping the stones that littered the path way you could climb to the top, without getting blown down. Again at the top there was a set of signs. One pointed forward on the path and said “Monolith Thing”. Another arrow pointed at the wall. It said “This is a Wall, No really it is a wall. What do I have to say it again. This is a wall nothing else!” A third Arrow pointed up and said, “You may want to try this way.” If she chose to go toward the Monolith Thing, Shalia would spend about a half hour hiking up a winding, but easy path. At the end would be a strange monolith covered in symbols and no apparent exit. The way back would vanish into a solid stone wall. There was a symbol for an up arrow, a down arrow, male, female, child, adult, old age, fire, water, air, wind, a happy face, dragon, demon, angel, several animals, strange wavy lines that made no sense. There was also one segment that had the word enhancement. To the side there would be a sign saying, “Please chose one or more. Say ‘Boing’ when done. If she tried to test the wall, Shalia would find it is was indeed a wall. Of course if she explored long enough she would find that there was a small place she could break open in the wall. Inside there would be a small bottle that said “Drink Me.” If she looked up long enough, Shalia would see an odd cloud that seemed to be closer than was possible. Reaching out you could touch it and climb onto the fake cloud. On top there would be a clear stair case that was next to invisible it you weren’t standing in that exact spot. It would be hard to climb up that stair case, but it would lead her to a cave entrance. This could take her about ten minutes. Edited by redfiver, Sun Jan 9, 2011 4:57 am.

Shalia once again found herself at the top of the hill with the sign pointing in the three directions. She did not doubt that the wall was indeed a wall. But then she noticed the bottle nearby. She picked it up and read the message on it. “Drink me.” She scoffed and put the potion back down. She was no fool…she never drank anything that she did not know exactly what was in it. And there was NO chance she was going to drink something that said “Drink me.” Though she did have to wonder what kind of a person would follow such insane instructions… She looked towards the path to the “monolith thing,” it seemed like an easy path to follow…but she had a feeling the ‘easy’ path was not as easy as it appeared. Finally her gaze followed the final arrow upwards. All she saw was a cloud above her…but it seemed different, almost solid. She first poked at it with her sword then touched it with her hand to find that is was not a real could. In fact it seemed as if it could hold her weight. She decided that as odd as it was, that this seemed to be the best path and climbed up. At first she saw nothing up there…then finally noticed an almost invisible stair case. She walked over to it and poked at it with her sword testing its strength. She also used her blade to figure out how wide the stair case was. Once she was satisfied that the stairway did seem like it would hold her weight she stepped onto it with one foot, again testing it before placing her other foot on it. As she climbed up she used her sword to test each step before placing a foot onto it. She did not want to set off it and fall to her death. It was slow going using this method but she finally reached an entrance of a cave. Blade out in front of her, she walked inside… |

Walking into the cave Shalia would notice that the light was quickly disappearing at a rate far faster than normal. You could still see ahead, but it was faded and misty almost like everything was not quite there. It also seemed to play tricks on a person’s sense of direction. It was hard to tell which direction she had just entered from. There was a path that lead deeper into the cave, but it curved and twisted out of sight. If she stayed in one place too long the shadowy mist would seem to swirl around her. Each time she paused a little more would cling to her. Each bit would feel like fabric hanging off her. She could try to tear it off, but it would just slip through her grasp like mist. If Shalia tried to leave the cave and succeeded she would find the mist would evaporate from her. If Shalia continued on the mist would continue to get thicker and more and more clumps would attach to her. Eventually they would start forming a solid shape of a dress. If she attempted to remove or cut the thing it would still act as mist. After about an hour it would finish into a wide heavy ball gown that was solid enough for the real thing and still impossible to remove. The gown almost seemed to sparkle and red gems that looked like glowing fire would appear on the dress in patterns that almost seemed to suit Shalia in an odd way. Dispel magic might remove the thing, if she knew the spell. Once the gown was complete it seemed the path split down two paths. On one path there seemed to be something that glittered. It almost looked like light being reflected. The other path seemed to lead to a door or at least what appeared to be a door. |

The first thing Shalia noticed was how quickly the light faded. It was unnatural…but then again so had everything else been during this trip. She then took note of the thick mist the hung around her. At first she did not think much of it…but as she travelled on she did realize it seemed to hand upon her. When she brushed her arm the mist was indeed mist. Or so it seemed. The mist soon resettled upon her like it had been before she disturbed it. She studied the mist for a moment or two. After a bit she decided that it was merely annoying and nothing threatening. So she continued her journey forward. The farther she went, the heavier the mist hung upon her. But it was still just that…mist. Then to her great annoyance she saw that it was taking the shape of a dress. And not only any dress…a gown fit for a king’s ball room. It seemed to accentuate her every curve and the skirt pooffed out, but not in a unflattering way. When she brushed her hand against it…it was still mist. This indeed very odd magic. She let out a sigh and she moved on again. now she found that the dress was solid enough to hinder her movements a bit..but it still acted like mist if she tried to remove it. Also now red crystals seemed to have appeared on it. The tiefling’s hair had turned red and matched the crystals as she came to the split in the path. This day was just getting her more annoyed and more angry. The color of her hair even annoyed her right now as it went better with the dress than her shade of black. Shalia looked between the two paths and decide to take the one towards the glittering object. It just seemed the most likely place a dragon would be. But nothing made sense here… |

As she approached the shining light she noted that it was a hall of mirrors. However, these mirrors reflected her in many different ways. Some seemed to be younger or older or different hair color. One even seemed to smiling as if enjoying the ball gown, another was crying as if wrought by sadness and loss. The variations went on seemingly endless, but regardless they all seemed to be in a large stone room with bright lights. If she touched a mirror she would appear to take on the differences. If it was a mental difference she could fight it off. There appeared to be no difference in clothes in any image. She could go back to the door at any point. If she reached the end of the hall she would find a hole in the ground that seemed show the brightly lit room displayed in the mirrors. If she entered into the bright lit, she could no longer go back. In the room she would see a different door displaying these words: "To pass through this gate you need answer these questions three. Answer all and I will grant you free removal of one spell. Answer 2 and you get a hint. Answer one and things will be fun. Answer none and you lose. Now Answer. A painted face, hands with no bones. My oldest brother was made of stones. What am I? Death is one, while birthing another – trees begin to shiver arounds its grandmother. What am I? Causing wounds, and cleansing. History dies from its rinsing. Life or scars is its blessing. What am I?” |

As she walked in she saw that it was room full of mirrors. The images her seemed to vary depending on what mirror she looked into. Most of them did not seem like her at all. They had her image, but were laughing or crying…something she never did. After looking around for a bit she did not see another door and was not interested in touching the mirrors to see if they held the secret to heading to the next stage. Instead she turned around a left the room of mirrors. She went back to the fork in the road and took the path she had not taken previously. When she reached the door she inspected it first to see if there were any obvious traps or unwanted surprises with opening it. She did not seem to find anything out of the norm so she reached out and opened the door and stepped inside. |

Opening the door Shalia was pulled into a hole by a strong wind. She fell only a short distance until she ended up in a circular room. It was brightly lite, but the ball gown she had on didn’t disappear. There appeared to be a stand in the middle room. There was a sign under it that read “Build, Take and Leave.” After reading the sign several tables would appear. Each would have various body parts of all sorts and sizes. There were wings, tails, long legs, short legs, and everything you could possibly make a body out of. Oddly none of the pieces matched any part of Shalia’s own body. Also all body parts were female. There was also no heads. There were many different wigs with various styles and colors. All of the hair styles were far more feminine than Shalia would ever consider having, but probably would look good with dress she was currently wearing. Shalia could find out that by picking up the body parts she could put them on the stand in the center. She could build whatever she wanted even taking pieces in and out at will. She could try and find a way out, but the place seemed to be solid stone on all sides with no clear way out. When she had finished building a body she would see an image of her face appear where the head should be. It would be without hair unless she put a wig on it. At the same time she would also find a makeup case and would need to put at least a little make up on the face. Once she felt she was done with these last touches she would see the sign glowing. The word take would blink. If she tried to take the sign she would find she could not. If she tries to take the newly made model she would find it merging into to her. Her body would change to match what she had made. A staircase would appear where the stand had been. As far as she could see it would lead her into the largest chamber she had seen yet. The glint of gold and jewels in what must be a very large pile, hinted that she may have finally reached her goal. Still there was no way to find out besides going down the stair case. |

Shalia was taken a bit by surprise when a gust of wind pulled her through the door way. As she began to fall she quickly turned in a way that she would land without injury. She then looked around the room and saw that there we no immediate exit. Seemed like she had to do something before she could move on, so she walked over to the table and read the sign. Build? She looked at the body pieces and then back to the stand. Seemed like an odd task, but so was everything else here. She honestly did not care what the body looked like. She picked two matching draconic arms and placed them up. Next the just grabbed two matching feline like legs and placed those up. This did not seem to be enough for it to trigger the next stage so she walked back over and randomly grabbed a tail and a pair of wings. The tail looked like a foxes and the wings where feathery and white. Lastly she took a wig where the hair was piled up in a fancy up-do. A face then appeared , along with some make up. She sighed as she realized she had to draw a face onto the thing. Picking up the make-up she then when about to quickly draw a face on the manikin. When she finished a new sign appear saying ‘take.’ She rolled her eyes and reach out to take the manikin…only to find that it was merging with her and she had taken upon its look. Her hair, now in a fancy up do, turned bright red as her anger flared up. She looked up the new stair case and began to ascend. She hoped that this would finally be the end of the whole thing and she could forget this all ever happened. |

Ka, Kaess’ father, watched as Shalia immerged from the staircase entrance. He was lounging on his horde very happy with today’s entertainment. This one had been very fun in different ways. She hadn’t put much thought into the last room. Clearly she hadn’t understood the hints. Still that just made it more entertaining. The miss matched features of the draconic arms, the feline legs, the white angelic wings, and the fox tail were all quite entertaining. He noted she hadn’t put much thought into the central body either. Having just grabbed a random set her chest was a bit larger and her bust at least one cup size larger. Her waist was close to the same, but a little bit wider. Her hips and butt though were skinnier than they had been. He decided to greet her and noted she was angry. “Welcome to my home. You can call me Ka, unless you want to sit here for a few days while I recite my full name. I know what you came for and feel free to find a stone you like. I set them over in a pile near the tip of my tail. Hmm… well as much as it was entertaining I should fix that body a little bit. Can’t have you be too mismatched or you won’t be able to move comfortably for very long. Oh and don’t worry it should wear off about an hour after you leave the mountain.” He raised a large clawed foot and the middle claw just barely touched her forehead. His magic was mostly spontaneous so he mostly let the magic take whatever route it wished. However, he did force one part into a particular direction. The result was the draconic arms seeming to quickly become normal arms. In truth they had tapped some of her draconic blood and Ka pulled that strength and sealed it into a tattoo on her body. She would certainly discover it later even if she didn’t already feel the power flowing through her. He considered it a small reward for his entertainment. Other changes also occurred. The magic left her chest at its new size, but he evened out the other proportion of her body until it seemed a natural body type. Fur from both the tail and the feline legs grew over the body mixing in an odd, but pretty way. Once the fur had covered her face as well it suddenly turned red as well matching the reaction of her hair. You could still the fur pattern, it was just in shades of red. “My so many interesting reactions. So that was the simplest path for my magic….” Meanwhile Kaess was on the other side of the room. He personally knew he wasn’t at fault, but somehow he had a feeling that she might be angry with him anyways. He wasn’t sure how to calm her down after events like this. This mountain tried the patients of even the most controlled people. All he could do was try to stay low until she blew some of that steam off. ‘Come on luck I need you now.’ Edited by redfiver, Sun Jan 30, 2011 10:34 pm.

Shalia was relieved to have finally found the dragon. Though she really did not know why she had to go through that whole thing. The only thing she could think of was that he was a very bored and annoying dragon. She was furious and wanted to hit something, but she had enough wits about her not to take her anger out on an ancient dragon. “Shalia,” she replied when he introduced himself. “But I’m sure you knew that already.” She did not move as he raised on of her large claws and touched her. She could feel the magic course through her and take effect. It did not remove everything but it at least made it more comfortable to move about. There was also something else she could feel the magic had done, but she was not sure what. An annoyed expressed crossed her face as fur covered her body. She could not wait for the effects to wear off and return her to her normal form. Something else she would discover when her anger wore off, was that her hair was now permanently red. A side effect of the dragon power’s Ka had awakened in her. “Your one bored dragon,” she said under her breath. She was sure he could hear her, but she really did not care. With that she walked over to the pile of stones near his tail and picked on up. So, she had finally completed all the tasks for the first stage of the Burning Fist. Now it was time to get off this accursed mountain so the effects on her would wear off. |

Ka heard the board comment. “I may be bored, but at least I got a visit from a very foxy lady.” It was a bad joke, but he laughed in a booming voice that echoed throughout the cavern. Kaess decide to stay put for a few moments seeing if Shalia would calm down a bit. It didn’t seem like she was, but it wouldn’t hurt to wait for a bit. While he watched her pick out his stone he thought about what his father had said. ‘I do hope he is right about it only being an hour. He has been wrong before … sigh I suppose I should ask. Finding out he was wrong latter would just anger her further.’ He stepped a bit further addressing his father. “Dad are you sure that Shalia’s changes will be an hour? You once told me it would only take a minute and I was sitting around for an entire day.” “Of course I am sure. An hour is seven days right.” “No dad that is a week.” ‘Ah jeez this isn’t going to end well.’ “Oh I really should get that strait one of these days. Draconic is always so much simpler. I do dislike this limited common language, but so many use it. Any ways apologies miss Shalia I should revise my last statement. You should change back around a week from leaving the mountain. Well at least those nice wings Shalia has for the moment should help you get down my mountain when you leave.. I do hope you two will visit again. You can use the back door next time. Kaess will take you out that way. Oh and don’t be surprised, but you won’t be able to talk about your trip up here with others who haven’t visited me.” Ka failed to notice anything going on as he continued to talk. Only when he finished did he look at his guest. |
