Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Death... It can't be avoided...

Ajax hadn't been to any cemetery in a long time. The one is his old home had been taken away when someone changed the forest. And yet, here he stood. Death had always been one of those things that Ajax would wait forever for. It wasn't that he hated his life, it is just that he didn't want to live longer then this life allowed. And so far, it looked like he would be fine.

Ajax walked along the rows of the dead. His mind was in a fog. He had no clue why he had come here. He had no clue where the dead members of his family where, but why they would have been moved to here, he didn't know. For all the other reasons to come here, he came to say good-bye to the dead members of a long lost Centaur tribe. His mother had told him that she had no clue where they could be. As did his father. Ajax hadn't said anything about looking for his family to his sister. He know that if he did, she would've of wanted to come with him. And she had a family at home to grow and care for. If anything would have happened to her, it would have been his fault! And he didn't want to think about what that man could do him...

All the bodies...all the people...

It was then that Ajax saw that he wasn't alone. There stood another figure. Ajax wasn't sure whether the figure was good, bad, human, or other, so he took out is bow, an arrow, and was ready, just in case. As he came closer, Ajax made sure to keep his hooves as light on the brick side-walk as possible. He also made sure that, if it came to it, Ajax could run, and/or yell for help...
All those years of fighting, finally come together... thought Ajax as he gathered together the practice fights of his childhood, and the real fights of his manhood...

Bastian came to a place where he'd hope he'd find necromancers. Those scums! What they could do to the dead...and to the living... just the thought was enough to make his scars ache. A hand on them, he kept walking, cursing the wounds he had for having been reckless. He had lost a dwarf, an half-fiend, and ....that girl.

But as soon as he walk, he saw furter in the fog a shape. Massive. Quadripedal, and two arms....on a bow! Fear went down the outworlder's spine. Come on now, he had too react fast. On second thougth, arrows were faster. So placing his hands high, he walked slowly to the creature.

''I mean no harm....'' He said softly, in case the creature did not understood.

A centaur! Bastian rarely saw them, in fact, that may be the first one he sees in his own life. Please, by the gods, make them that they understand! He know he could be stupid, but as he recalls they were smart, just like human but....with his approach who totally failed. He could get an arrow in his forehead.

''I'm sorry, i was.... just looking for people....''

"I mean no harm...."
That is what they all said... But, it was the mans next words that throw Ajax off...
Keeping his bow raised, Ajax said-"Looking for people.... At a cemetery? I'd like to believe that... But I don't." The truth hurts, and he know that. In any case, this man could do anything. Ajax made to look like the guard of the cemetery. And, he did well. Ajax had had to guard many-a-thing in the past, so, he did well.
He was raising his hands in surrender, but to many years off fighting had taught Ajax almost all the moves in the book. And this, one of the most famous...
But, the way the man held himself, showed that he didn't mean harm. So, Ajax lowered his bow. Not all the way, bear in mind, but half down. He wanted to keep it there in case the man made the wrong move. "Why have you really come? The most you shall find in this cursed place is thy. There be no other figure here!" The words where meant to kind, but in a fierce voice. Like a fathering telling his son that the son did something wrong, but the the farther was proud of him. And, with as old as Ajax was, he could very easily be this mans father, by the looks of it.
Ajax walked closer to the man. "And on the topic of thou, what tis thys name?"He asked. Ajax know the rules of those who don't play good. And knew the rules of those who play good as while.

Of course, looking for living people in a place full of dead peoples was quite suspicious. So the centaur had plenty of reason to doubt the magician. But to tell him he was looking for necromancers? No, by himself it looked suicidal and if he shows he is a spellcaster, what tells him that necrmoancers can't do the same. This situation was a bit tense. But did he had a choice? He was without weapons in hands, and no spells ready. He had nothing to keep any arrow at bay.

-I was looking.... For necromancers, he admitted, sighing heavily.

Suddenly, his eyes brigthen of a intensity known to man as determination. He would not give up on his quest. He would slay this praticionners of the dark arts.

-I am Bastian, Bastian Gauds, i'm a spellcaster. I hunt them....

If that humanoid knew the arcanic power in Bastian, it may change things. But what really in the end? He would join Bastian on his quest? Doubtful.

-May i know your name also? It would be more...polite? I guess....

A spell caster?!? thought Ajax. To many years had gone. He had thought that no one like those any more. That the practice had since died away to the stories!
"Ajax Aeinstar... Since thy asked, is thyns name. You search out, find, and kill necromancers? Ey, hefty thing to try and do by yourself, isn't it?" said Ajax. He know that, if one tries to kill, that they won't get to far. And, for most, an extra hand would always be taken. So, the extra hand had come.
Ajax put his arrow away, but kept out the bow, in case something should happen. Then, Ajax talked as though Bastian where his son, again."You know, to kill, you need someone who can aim, and shot, faster then lighting, right? And, exceptionally when you are hunting necromancers..." In all his years, Ajax has always been offered the help, and now, he was offering the help! Well worth the price to give back, what is given to... Ajax great-grandfather use to say. And now, here stood Ajax chance to give back, what was given to him.
Ajax raised his eyebrows as he thought about what he had just done. Then, there was a sound off in the night. He couldn't tell if it far or close, but he was sure that he know what it was... Necromancers...

WoW. That was unexpected, and with no necromancers around, it would be a bit of disapointing.... But, seems someone was getting into Bastian's mind. This curse is getting worse and worse. Kneeling and growling out of pain, both hands on the side of his head. The laughter, malicious, echoed in his head.*Not to worry, i'll send you friends. They want to do with you, what you want to do with me!*said the voice.

-Curse you!! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!

All became silent. Too silent, raising painfully from the ground He looked around. No doubts they were here. He started his cast.

Magic power
I command you
Make me stronger
Make my form true!

Suddenly, the clothes of Bastian clinged on his body, even his skin was fusioned with the textile, but the tissu bacame scales. The whole body was growing, the bottom of the vest was growing wings and tails. The features of the human quickly became more draconic. And within seconds, where there was a mere human was now standing a huge red dragon growling, pusing the mist a bit farther from him and his ally.... To reveal undead minions surrounding them.

The kid is crazy... thought Ajax...
Right when Ajax was about to say something, he bent, doubled over, screaming in pain about something. Then, he yelled for something to get out of his head.

As Ajax watched, where stood a man a moment before, became a dragon. This dragon looked different from the ones that Ajax had seen at a distance during his travels.
The creature standing before Ajax was quite tall, and was a very bight red.

Ajax went to take a step back when the creature came to be, but then relished that the fog was gone, and in its place, Ajax saw minions to a necromancer. Ajax pulled out his bow, one of his better arrows, and cast his spell, Magic Missile while taking precise aim, and shot.
It hit, right where it would kill. The minion fell on the ground, dead. The others stopped where they stood, and waited for a moment. Ajax took this opportunity to shot some more. Five more, magic missile, precise, shots at the minions. They attacked. Clawing they're way to Ajax and his ally, trying to be the one to get them first...

~-~-~-~

The time had gone much faster then it would have seemed. There just one more minion. Ajax took aim and shot. It was dead within a second of his shot.
Ajax looked around. Where is the little coward...Ajax wondered to himself. A necromancer was never to far away from his/her minions. Ajax looked around for a few minutes when he saw the figure.
"Who are you?" Ajax said... But, then he changed his mind. Ajax didn't want to know.
"I am..." was all that came out of the figure. It looked like it might be male, just by the way it stood, but you can't be sure...
Ajax took aim, and let the arrow go...
The figure fell to the ground, as though it had been rolled over, dead. Ajax walked over to him. It was a male. Elf, by the looks of it. Ajax turned to his companion, waved a hand over, and waited to see what the Dragon would want to do with the dead necromancer...

As soon as the first arrow was shot, the dragon pushed himself in the and flew around, making a rain of claws and fire around. The army of undead minions, crashing some under his weigth. Of course getting in close quarters like this he got quite a few cuts on his legs but nothing worthy to call injury. The massacre continued for quite a few minutes until there was simply one minion left.

Bastian saw the necromancer on the cold ground, dead. That darned lich.... He was influencing even the elves. He would need to find him and destroy the phylactery.

-...if you stick with me.... You will have more trouble then those simpletons... This cult is on the loose... If they keep getting anymore recruits...they may take over a whole city by themselves....

Not a lot of people would be foolish enough to get in this hunt. But if no one did something there would be more than Taras and this city in ruins. An archlich was no mere adversary.

He spoke of a cult. Ajax best guess was that he was talking of a cult of Necromancers. But, you never know. So, Ajax said "If you need any help at all, I am here. I could help you rid the world of those demented creatures. I would be honored to help you..." as Ajax said the last part, he bowed. "You fought bravely." Ajax stood up. He put his arrows away. He kept his bow to the side. His hope was that this boy would be fine with Ajax fighting along side with him.

As the two figures stood there, the fog returned. After a while, the sky got lighter, as though to say that the sun was still with them. But, not enough to say that all was at peace in the world. Then, Ajax remembered why he had come. He turned his head to the side, and looked at the grave-stones that surrounded the two allies...

Bastian looked at the centaur and smiled. Most people who would see this sorcerer would think of him as crazy and trouble bringer. The man hearing voices, undead getting on his heels to kill him. A curse for everyone. Not a lot of people aware of this would aid such an lucky man. But he managed to survive... Not like his friends who faced the army of the lich.

-Thanks Ajax. I am the honored one.

Figthing bravely? If that is figthing with all his heart, then yes the outworlder did so. But his heart has fear, and veangence as essence. But he had more, he wanted to live. He wanted a wife, a family, he was too young to die, and even more importantly, not dying in this world.

-And so did you.

Bastian looked at the ruins of the ancient city further away. So, where did that archlich go? Where is her hideout? He sighed. As he looked again at the centaur, he saw that he had something on his mind.

-what's the matter? You know of some of them?

So, he hadn't hide it as well as he would have liked. Ajax shrugged. What did he have to hide?
"No, I didn't know any of them. My home-village got taken over while I was gone. And our cemetery was moved." Ajax bowed his head for a moment. He knew that he was at the point of attack. If someone wished to cause harm to him, now would be the perfect time. But, he stayed with his head down, as he said-"I had hoped that they would have moved our dead here, but looks like I was wrong. The guards of our town... I shouldn't have left! But the outside was so much more, open looking, then my town!! If I had stayed, it wouldn't have happened! Oh, well, nothing I can do about it now. That was the reason that walked along the soil as you do now...." Ajax's voice died as he looked around. The look of sorrow was strong on his face, as he brought it up. All of a sudden, Ajax had the strong want to leave.
The only that this place had brought back was the some of the worst and best memories of his life. Some of them, Ajax was sure he had locked away, never to be seen again. And, yet, here they go, playing across memory as though they had been yesterday. Ajax stood strong. He had to. Ajax looked around, and started to walk to the exit, when he remembered that he was in the present of company. Ajax turned back to face Bastian, and said "Do you have any where that you have to be?" Ajax wanted to get back to his family to tell them that the family wasn't here, and that he would be off. He knew that it would hurt his mother's heart, but he had wishes to stay at home. Where would he live?

Looking at the mature centaur, Bastian felt a pinch in his heart. Hometown, family. He knew the words. But thé memory of them were destroyed, burned away since he had entered this world. He had his idea of the feeling wrapping the heart of Ajax. He felt sorry for him.

-I am sorry... You can only move on from whatever happened in the past

Bastian, two years or so now, was out of control, due to his rage. He wanted to make the world kneel before him. It was not rigth, why would the entire world be punished of one single man who already paid the price. No, the outworlder had to make this world better.

-Where? I dunno, i was from the academy of magic... And our only clue for now was....

He looked at the elven. Something was not rigth, he looked into the man's clothes and purse. A few gold and a pièce of paper.

If your attack fails, draw back and meet this ''reaper to sell'' back in Balefire. Tells him ''The nigth of the shadow plane is delicious'' is answer should be ''Not as much as blood.''

Master T'Cherack Maghiande

-Huh? H-hey, Ajax.... Take a look.

Bastian was getting worried, a reaper to sell? What was that suppose to mean? They got someone outside their cult?To sell? So, he is to hire? A mercenary? In Balefire? But that's the town where the warlock did.... Curses. Everything was on his back soon enough.

At Bastien's answer, Ajax started for the entrance. But, Ajax was only a few feet away from the dead Necromancer, when Bastien called him back. In Bastien's hand was a not. What could a note help them with? Thought Ajax, when it hit him. It could hold information on the war that Ajax had just entered.
Ajax walked back to Bastien, slowly. "What's up?" said Ajax. He hoped that his voice didn't give away how much he worried about what this note had on it. He knew very well what it could have on it, but he hoped, oh-so much, that he was wrong. Ajax had been wrong few times in his life, but, he hoped that he was right now.

"Does it have... Information... about where we go next?" Ajax asked. That was when he stopped. Ajax right over Bastien's shoulder. He read the note, to himself once, then out loud, so that he was sure he hadn't just miss read it.

"'If your attack fails, draw back and meet this ''reaper to sell'' back in Balefire. Tell him ''The night of the shadow plane is delicious'' is answer should be ''Not as much as blood.''

Master T'Cherack Maghiande'... Should we go to Balefire?"
Said Ajax. He knew the answer, but he wanted Bastien to say it. The look on his face really didn't help Ajax keep himself cool. And, of all the times, now was the most important time to...

The answer was obvious. When an arrow points a direction, it's stays on that course. No need denying the evidence they got here. But why did the elf not withdraw from the figth? When the situation changed, he could have simply fled and meet this ''reaper''. Then, there would have been more troubles of course. Was it pride? Or was it something else that made the necromancer here? We will never know.

-We don't have much of a choice now, do we?

He looked around. Passing from a place where death is al you see to one where death awaits at ever corner...Which was the most welcoming in the end? He looked at his new friend and nodded. Now, they would be in the town where Basrian was brougth to Imythess by.

-I think we can leave the dead to rest....

Ajax raised his head, proudly, and walked away from the dead elf, slowly. He steps were taken with care. He was ready, at least, as ready as one could be, going into a war that one didn't know was there. Little did he know that Ajax was entering a war that would be hard to get out of.

"To Balefire, then, I think..." Said Ajax to Bastien. Ajax knew little about the "City of Lanterns" as he had heard it called. But, by the look on his friends face, he thought that there was little good to come from this city. Ajax would go with Bastien, and help for as long as he could. If it meant that he would die, so be it!

Ajax thought little of death. He knew that it would come, he knew that, no matter how hard he tried, it would find him. Some would go thorough anything just to live forever. How stupid could you be?!? thought Ajax. Dieing was just the next step in life, as far as he knew. If you where to live forever, then what type of life would that be?!? All the ones that you would care for wouldn't be around with you. You would go mad! And, at some point, you would wish for death to come!
If you didn't, you where a man of evil. For, only those who was to cause ill on the world would wish to live forever.

"Shall we leave, then, my friend?" Said Ajax. He took out a blanket to cover his back. He then looked at Bastien, as though to say "If you wish to ride, you may."
And, with that, Ajax set out for the exit to this dreadful place...
