| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

It was the first time that they had actually gone into conflict. It was also the first time that Zodiac shown how powerful she was. Chrono felt weak and vulnerable. Clutching his bleeding arms, he huddled in with some of the refugees that were warming out on the fire. He seemed to fit in place with some of the injured people. His wounds looked similar. But while people may have been stabbed with blades from the outside, Zodiac made some blade protrude out and break his skin from the inside. He kept his cloak around him to hide any more injuries that would have probably killed him, if Zodiac was not inside him to increase his resistance to death by blood loss. |

She was going to make a killing tonight, if these refugees had any coinage on them. She wasn’t sure about accepting coins here, though. This was her first time at the refugee camp, so she could only hope that she had brought enough supplies with her to help everyone. However, as she kept walking, sticking out like a sore thumb in the crowd with her light wings and clean dress, she noticed there was a lot more people here than she originally expected. The tall, winged lady slowly made her way through the crowd, helping the children first, then seeing what help the adults could use. There were enough people here, that if she charged a bit less than usual, she’d still make more coins than material used. This way, more people were able to give coins. Her abilities to heal others were skilled enough to be worth way more than what she charged, but she would feel horrible if she took a family’s last coin. There were a few people that gave her weird looks because of her wings, but there were also others who ignored it, and others who thought it was kind of neat. Lyvian did her best to ignore anyone’s judgements and just continued through the crowd, answering any questions directed toward her, and asking questions of her own to help each person more effectively. It was a bit more challenging with the children, in which case she’d kneel beside them, and thoroughly explain what she would do to help them, so that they’d relax and let her do her job. She spoke to the kids the most, trying to get them to talk to her. Even just a little hello was an achievement, in her eyes. Soon, she came around to a group huddled around a fire, and once again, started with the children first. For a while, she sat with one of the kids sitting in her lap as she helped the child warm up. Body heat was always the best, so it was a lot easier for her to help this child, mixing some sort of foam substance, while explaining to the child in simple terms what the foam would do to his wounds. It was quiet enough here that everyone around the fire would hear her kind words. Not to mention that she visibly stuck out enough that most attention would be on her anyway. She didn’t mind, though. She had nothing to hide. “This blue stuff won’t hurt. It’ll make your cuts not burn so much, and clean them out, too. So, it’s ok. We’ll just put a tiny bit on at a time. If you don’t like how it feels, just let me know, okay?” She dabbed her fingers in the foam, using the blue-ish foam substance very sparingly. The child actually smiled a bit after a few moments of the foam being on his wounds. |

It seemed that there was a healer doing some rounds. She was quite noticeable but he lost interest after a while. He kept his cloak around him to prevent anyone from seeing his wounds. He hoped that the healer would move on to other spots. It seemed inevitable that she would visit this area. She was, after all, a healer. He just sighed and clutched his arms. The bleeding seemed to have slowed down but it was still painful. Chrono soon heard some footsteps and a soft voice. It was the healer. She was aiding a child with some blue substance. He felt that he didn't want those foam touching his wounds. He doesn't know yet what it would do with his kinds of wounds. Although she said that it wouldn't hurt, he doesn't know yet what effects it has on wounds inflicted by demons. Slowly, he got up, keeping his cloak around him, and his face hidden as much as possible. He turned around and started to walk, well limp, away. At least, he would return perhaps only when the healer had finished her rounds. He didn't want anyone asking any questions about what those wounds were. The worst case scenario is people finding out he has a demon in him and they might not take so kindly to that. |

There was no use in trying to help those that didn’t want to be helped. Of course, she wanted to give everybody an equal chance for her assistance. She also knew a healing spell that would work on any type of wounds, but she avoided using her spell around mortals to prevent ambushing or anything of the sort. She understood that some people took it too far when they didn’t like those who use magic, so Lyvian didn’t want to experience what ‘too far’ could mean. After helping the child, she stood up, brushing off her dress, then walked up to the cloaked one who was walking away from the group. She could tell that he was different than most of the refugees here, but she couldn’t tell exactly how he was different. A few paces, and she caught up to him. “There’s no need to be avoiding me.” She said simply, looking at his face as she spoke. If she could see his eyes, then she’d be looking at his eyes. “I can help you, but if you insist, then I’ll leave you be. Even if you think I can't, then I don't think it would hurt to try... free of charge...” She never understood why people just walked away without saying anything. It was rude, in a sense, but she didn’t like letting things bother her, so she tried to look at the positive side. In this case though, she was having difficulty finding a positive side. There was just so much negative energy here. At least, she was able to bring in some hope, even if it was just temporarily. She wished she had enough coin for this whole camp to get homes. Either way, she was talking to this cloaked man now, so she kept pace with him, and stopped walking if he stopped walking. She listened for him to say something, even if it was just a grumbled little ‘why’. |

He had expected the night to end with just that. After all, for most people who do their jobs, one unwilling to pay up would not matter, right? He thought that he had ended it there and that. But he was wrong. He heard footsteps behind him and he stopped and turned around. It was the healer. He had not expected her to go after him. Perhaps he had misjudged her. But then again, the incident that led him here showed how poor he was at judging character. Speaking of which, he had not heard from Zodiac for a while. Perhaps they were in those non-speaking terms at the moment. She seemed to be dedicated in her line of work. She had even mentioned it to be free of charge. Though, it did seem to come back to profession and income, she was willing to try and heal him. Perhaps she was not sure if she can actually heal him. He was not sure either but he has nothing to lose. "I don't know why you're doing this," he replied to her. "But if you insist, I'd prefer it if we were some place no one can see me. I don't want anyone else prying." His voice was a bit trembling, it's as if his throat was wounded as well. |

She looked around, not sure where they’d find a place where nobody else could see. “That is fine, if we can find a place.” She said, looking at him curiously. Why would she bother helping him, anyway. “I just believe in giving everybody an equal chance. I’m not like others who trick you into paying up. There are always other favours that can be done. Besides, there’s no point in having the ability to heal others if it’s not put to good use.” She walked with him until they found a spot in one of the tents that just so happened to be empty, then she knelt on the ground, waiting for him to sit beside her. “So, what kinds of wounds do you have?” she asked, as if it were just another piece of conversation. “I have this blue solution, as you probably saw me put on the child I was talking to. It soothes and cleans any open wounds. Then,” she spoke quietly now, to make extra sure that nobody else could hear her, “I know a spell that will effectively quicken the healing process.” After saying that, she went back to speaking with her normal tone and volume. “It’s up to you where we start.” She looked up at him, and couldn’t help but wonder what exactly he was. He obviously wasn’t human. There was something in his voice that made him different. Through her travels, she had certainly met a lot of people, both human and nonhuman. She had been lucky enough to get this far without anything trying to kill her. She always tried to not give anyone a reason to kill her, and it seemed to be working so far... “My name is Lyvian, by the way. This is the first time I’ve been to this camp. I haven’t made anyone pay for my services here. There’s been a few that offered me coin, and I surely did not deny it, but I’d never take somebody’s last coin. Especially if they’re in this situation.” She said, hoping that would make him feel a bit at ease with her helping him. She opened up her bag of supplies, and took a quick glance of the material she had left. Apparently she had used up more than she thought. This would have to be the last person she helped at the camp before heading back to the village to buy more material. |

"Very well," he nodded and proceeded to find some place they can be alone. At least, away from prying eyes. "Favors. Money. It's a necessity. I do not think any less of you if it's something necessary to survive." It was not long that they found an empty tent. Peculiar it seems to others, or perhaps intruiging. But let them think what they wish. All he needed was something to soothe the pain...while keeping the nature of his wounds a secret. He watched as she sat down, waiting for him perhaps. But he was hesitant. Could he really trust her? But then she agreed to be alone with him. That gesture took some form of trust on her end. After she finished speaking did he heave a sigh. "I can pay for my treatment. I just would ask for you to keep this a secret." There was no turning back. He grabbed his cloak and loosened it to let it fall. He was not wearing any shirt. It was torn up to pieces. All over his body, up to his arms and neck were tips of blades protruding out. It was like there were swords in his body that decided to start moving outward. There was one on his neck...it hindered him a bit in speaking. "I am Chrono. A demon named Zodiac resides in me. I am in need of your assistance. I don't have much but if you are able to aid me, I'll be in your debt. And I'll owe you a so-called favor." |

She nodded and smiled when he introduced himself and the demon inside him. “Ahh, a demon. Is that the reason why you’re still able to move at all?” she wondered, looking at the blades all over- or all under and cutting outward from his body. “I’ve never seen anything like it. Have you tried pulling the blades out?” she asked, not understanding how they would get inside like that in the first place. Definitely with the aid of magic, but still... “I hope the demon isn’t doing this to you... it’s better to have a body and spirit, rather than just a spirit. At least with a body, you can actually do things in this world.” She said, still looking at the blades. “Would you be ok with trying to pull one of them out and see how it goes? I can stop the bleeding if it gets too excessive, and the blue substance I have should ease the burning and keep it clean.” She’d never even heard of this happening before. If this were any regular human, they’d be in so much pain they’d probably go into shock, with all those blades sticking out. Who knew how many blood vessels they were blocking and how deep they went. It truly was amazing to see that he could still function properly like this. Sure, he was obviously in pain and was moving slowly, but it was the fact that he could move at all that really amazed her. She tried not to make it that obvious that she was so surprised by what he was going through, but her facial expression would probably end up looking like some sort of look of pity. Of all the things she understood of demon spirits, this was one thing that, in her morals, was impossible. However, here he was, standing before her, with blades sticking out of his body as if his bones were made up of longswords. She sat patiently, waiting to see what he would have to say. She really hoped she could help him. It would be really upsetting to know he might have to stay like this. Questions started popping into her mind like no tomorrow, but she held back, not wanting to annoy him or scare him away. |

Well, he could start by answering her questions. "Yes, the demon is the reason I'm still alive. Else, I would have already died," he told her. Though, it was that demon's fault that he was in this state at all. He touched one of the blades and tapped it a bit. It was very much solid and very much unmoving. She mention something about the demon not doing it to him...well, the fact remains that it was Zodiac that cause such. "Sorry, but it is that demon that caused it. We had a slight misunderstanding and it came to this," he heaved a sigh and sat beside her. "I don't think conventional medicine would help in this case. But I am thinking you posses some magical prowess that might help? These are, after all, wounds of magical nature." He tried moving his arms a bit. They felt heavy and sounded like they were wearing some plate over them. Perhaps she posses some healing magic that could possibly retract them inside instead and back into the nothingness which they had come from. Or back to Zodiac who had summoned them. |

She had a feeling that this might be beyond her current skills... but, it never hurt to try and see how much she could help him. “Yes, I know one spell. I generally use it to close wounds that are more life threatening, but we can see if it’s strong enough for this.” She said, “I see that they’re pretty solid, so, I’ll see what happens...” Considering this was something she’d never done before, she had no idea what was going to happen when she did this spell. If it was the demon that caused these blades to surface, perhaps this spell could send the blades back to where ever they came from. There was only one way to find out... She placed a hand over one of the blades on his arm as if she were to try to push it back in, but she wasn’t actually touching the blade. She murmured the incantation, repeating it a couple of times as she concentrated on the blade. Much to her surprise, it slowly moved back in, disappearing back into the nothingness from which it came. She waited a bit, watching him. The spell would also close any actual wounds/cuts made by the blade as well, once the entire blade retracted back. “How did that feel?” she asked, making sure that it actually worked before continuing. The last thing she wanted was to cause the blade to cut his inner organs as well. She had no cure for that. One day, she wished to be able to heal nearly anything she came across, but for now, her skills were very limited. It was evident that the spell took energy from her, but she'd still be able to use it a few more times. |

If there was a chance he could at least be rid of the blades ruining his skin, then he would take it. She had cast her spell that started to retract the blades. As they did so, they seem to start to disappear. The wound closed and it was as if the blade was never there. While on of the blades retracted, the others seemed to have reacted and moved back under his skin a little bit. It was effective and just what he needed. "I feel relieved," he answer. "I am grateful. However, if the spell is much draining you of energy, please do not hesitate to rest. Just let me know if you wish to stop for a while." He was quite sure that spells of that magnitude would cause much strain on someone's stamina. But then again, he had not had a chance to assess what she was capable of. Perhaps she is quite the talented healer that she was. "If you can at least close off the wounds in the vital areas, I would very much appreciate, even if just that," he motioned to his throat, his chest and several blades jutting out of his back. Some were dangerously close to his spine. |

She felt a lot better when she saw the blades disappearing into his skin again, not causing even more pain for him. She nodded when he said it felt much better. “I’ll be okay to use it a couple more times, then I’ll need to take a break.” She said, concentrating more on the vital areas now, mumbling the words of the spell again as she moved her hands. She did his throat first, not stopping until the blades were gone completely from the area, including any that were on the back of his neck. “I’m really glad this spell is working for you. If it didn’t, I would not have been able to do anything for you.” She said, taking a break before she cast the spell on his chest. She didn’t want to get too tired, then have the spell go wrong or something. Especially in the vital areas. “One of my goals is to become the most talented healer of all time.” She grinned, “It may seem really silly to you, but I can’t stand seeing people in pain. Nobody really deserves to be in agony, whether it be from sickness or actual wounds. It makes me really sad to see children in agony.” She told him, not sure if he really cared or was even curious about it. She just liked talking sometimes. “Would you like some water?” she asked, standing up and brushing off any dirt from her dress, then wrapping her cloak around her. “I’m sure there’s some around here somewhere.” She left the tent, not giving him a chance to respond, and had to be gone for at least ten minutes before she returned again with two full large pouches of water. Even if he didn’t want water now, it could easily be saved for later. Right before entering the tent again, though, she made a really loud but smooth whistle with her lips as she looked up at the sky. Her familiar was never that far away. Whenever she entered a new area, the falcon always kept well back, letting Lyvian scout the area to make sure it was safe first. However, with the amount of combat experience that the winged elf had, it would be more intelligent to let the falcon fly over the area first. She could probably eventually train her falcon to do that, though. She sat back down inside the tent, handing him the pouch of water, then opening her own and taking a few sips. “I grabbed these pouches so that we don’t have to drink it all right now. Figured it’d be more handy this way.” She said, not even bothering to explain why she made that whistle just before entering the tent. It definitely was not to draw attention to them. Nobody ever ran up to her asking questions when she did that, so she didn’t mind doing that whistle whenever she wanted her familiar to return to her. |

"Very well," he nodded as she had went on with the healing. It was very much relieving. Although, with each blade retreating, he felt the pain even more. It was due to the presence of too much pain made him numb. When the source of that pain was lessened, he was starting to feel it, but it was much better of his preference. "Well, I'm sure you will be one of the greatest healers. Only you were the only one able to heal my wounds. I had no luck with other healers." Every now and then he would wince, he did not hear what she had said before she had left but he had decided to ponder on it later. Most of the blades retreated and were gone. He only had a few on his side and legs and thigh but that was all there is left. He heard a whistle outside before he saw that she returned later with some water. So that was what it was. He did not feel any thirst though, so he just gave a curt nod. He did not really understand many things as of the moment. He did what was necessary to survive before he would try and gain knowledge about the new lands he had been thrown into. "Before I forget," he spoke and reached into his pocket. He took out a large pouch, "I don't know if my kind of coins are accepted here. But you could melt the gold and then sell it. I am not familiar with this world's currency." He placed the pouch in between them and untied it. It was filled with golden coins that had a strange symbol on one side, with the words, 'Knowledge is the Greatest Wealth' around it. On the other side, there was a hexagram with strange symbols. "It's real gold, don't worry. You can have it. I'm sure the smelted gold will be worth a lot." |

When he assured her that she will be one of the greatest healers, she smiled widely, taking another sip of water, closing the little packet then going back to healing the rest of his odd blade wounds. “I’m glad you think so. I’m really glad that I can help you. I wasn’t sure if I could at first.” When she went back to healing him, she had said the spell a little differently, and noticed that it was much stronger than the healing spell she was doing before. It was a bit odd, but perhaps her practice was paying off after all. When he placed the bag of gold pieces in front of her, she looked a bit surprised. She didn’t think he would actually pay her, but she definitely wouldn’t complain about it. She would surely make good use of this gold. “This world...” she spoke very quietly, as if she were just repeating his words for her own sake. She picked up one of the coins and looked at it, interested in what his world was. Perhaps another dimension? She’d never heard of those actually existing though. Either way... She nodded, “I don’t know about other people, but I’ll accept them if you don’t plan on going back to where ever your world is. Thank you very much.” She said, closing the bag again, and placing it inside of her bag with her other belongings. She was able to finish more quickly now with the stronger spell, being able to do bigger areas with it, but found that it drained her energy faster. She managed to heal all of his wounds though, so she was happy with that. A few moments later, a falcon came swooping into the tent, and perched itself on Lyvian’s shoulder. She smiled at the falcon, stroking its back a couple times, then introduced it. “This is my familiar. He won’t hurt you, so you don’t have to worry about further service.” She smiled, reassuring him with a bit of a joke. She wasn’t sure if he had any issues with birds of prey, but she didn’t see anything wrong with clarifying that it wouldn’t do him any harm. “If anything, he’d probably scout a rabbit for you or something.” She drank more of the water that she had left over from earlier, seeming to feel a lot better after she finished it off. “So how do you feel?” she wondered, though only imagined he’d feel one hundred percent better. |

When they had resumed the process, he felt a bit more relieved. The healing was less painful. It was like a splash of cold water on a drought filled land. He heaved a sigh of relief when all the blades were gone. His wounds closed and he was healed. Zodiac, the root of it all, was still silent. He was glad that she accepted his payment, even if they were quite odd. Although, he felt a pang of homesickness when she mentioned something about going back. Going home. It seemed that it would never happen. He did not know what to say. The thought of home silenced him for a bit. Then, a falcon swooped in from outside. He was about to find something to shoo it away but she said that it was her familiar. Ah, he had read about those things. "Oh, me?" He snapped back to reality when she asked him how he felt. Although, the aura around him was a bit...off. "I'm alright. Thank you very much for your healing service." He stretched his arms, the wounds no longer visible. There were no scars either. He then looked around for his shirt though he seemed to have misplaced it. Giving up for now, he decided to get to know this world a little bit more than just another land he ended up in. "So...what is this place?" |
