Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

There was a lot less here than she expected. Tall, stone ruins that had thousands of stories to tell, grass and weeds that had complaints to tell, even an old cathedral that had blessings to tell... or curses... depending on how you looked at it. Her grandfather had sent her here to search for a certain ingredient for another potion he wanted to test out. Since it was a new potion, she would have to get lots of this herb so that he had lots to experiment with. She couldn't help but wonder exactly what the experiment could be this time...

Either way, there was nothing here that really interested her, so that definitely explained why she saw a lot less than what there was. Her interest in the world itself seemed to have disappeared over the years. She knew there had to be a time in her life that she wanted to travel all over the world, but she couldn't remember anything that happened in that time. The child wasn't sure whether she wanted to remember everything or not, seeing as she was happy with the way things were now. What use was there dwelling on the past, anyway? There was nothing you could do about it, so why worry.

She stepped through the ruins, looking all around her at the statues of a lost city. She could feel the history in this place, as if she had been here before the disaster. She'd never really remember whether she had been here or not, and she wouldn't try to remember. She had never felt this atmosphere before, so that alone told her that this place was entirely new to her.

The ground was rough, and the weeds enjoyed grabbing at her ankles as she kept walking and looking around. It didn't take long before one of the weeds took a strong hold on one of her ankles, making her lose balance and trip. The bell on her collar rang out loudly when she fell, her hands catching her fall on a couple of rocks. She turned her body to sit down, and tugged at the weed with her leg, not understanding how it was holding on so well.

Her cat like ears were flat now, only visible after her hat had fallen off from the fall. She had a long cat like tail and claws to go with it, and of course, these features were only from her grandfather's experiments. She was also smaller than she should be, probably about the size of a four-year-old. If she went without any potion drinking for about a week, then she'd have her original form back, looking like a regular human kid, except with a pair of strangely dark eyes.

She continued pulling with all her might, not daring to give up. If she gave up, she'd never get out of here, and she could only imagine how creepy this place got after dark. At one moment, she'd try using her hands to untangle the weed, but it seemed that there was something very strange about this weed. She had no idea, but it was influenced with magic somehow. Each time she tried to reach for it, one of its leaves would prick her. When she only tugged with her leg, it just held tighter, so she pulled harder and harder each time, hoping to drag out its roots so that it couldn't harm anybody else, but still had no luck. Soon, she stopped pulling and just sat there, staring at the weed around her ankle.

Zelothtith wandered through the ruins he had felt pulls of his power. There were shards of that tablet here. Each contained essences of his power and when he had them all he would get it all back. Still he hadn’t even found one yet and was reluctant to go into the smaller areas that might be shorter paths to his goals. It was then that he sensed something. It was a faint scent of something demonic, but twisted. It also smelled somewhat strong, but new. It was a confusing feeling.

He soon found himself following the sense and saw a strange child who looked part cat there. She didn’t look abnormal, but she felt twisted. He liked that feeling, it felt like some wonderful torture that he was missing out on, but he could start now. He walked up to the creature seemingly struggling with some plant. His tall form towered over the small thing and his smile was off. His entire body looked like a tall human’s, but something was off. He moved as if he didn’t fit in that form. If she looked his shadow seemed to move separately from him in a way. He was always convincing, but hardly friendly looking. “So what is a little thing like you doing out here all alone? I am sure there is some interesting story behind this.”

He would find out what she was next and the longer he was close by the more he could see if she was powerful enough to feed off of. He felt she just might be young as she was. If not she could probably ferret out some things for him.

OOC: wrong account again I have got to stop doing this :P

She was getting really frustrated with this weed. It absolutely refused to let go. Rimmon couldn’t understand why this weed was so wanting her to stay. When she noticed somebody was walking up to her, she started getting a little nervous. It wasn’t like she could run away if she felt the need to... and the feeling she got when he walked up to her, towering over her, she recognized it as something she should probably run away from. It didn’t help that he wasn’t smiling.

“I’m not a thing.” She said, taking a moment to think of how she would answer his question. She didn’t really want to answer him, but she didn’t really want to be rude, either. “Demons are not things. I might be little, but I’m definitely not a thing." The way she said it made it sound like she would be pretty upset if he continued calling her a thing. Of course, it was just slang, probably not meant as actually calling her a thing, but she didn’t recognize the difference. “It’s not much of a story though...” she continued, “Could you... help me...? Please?” It didn’t seem that he would help her at all, but it was worth at least asking. “This weed is really starting to hurt my leg.”

She looked back down at the weed for a moment, then noticed his shadow. It didn’t worry her, considering she was used to it. Shadows seemed to like to dance sometimes when she had a lot of energy pulsing through her. This shadow was moving more than normal, so it intrigued her, but she didn’t think it had to do with this man’s hidden power. After a moment, she looked back up at him, squinting from the bright sun behind him.

OOC: lol yeah, you do gotta stop that :P

Zelothtith laughed a cold laugh at the little thing at his feet. “So a weed is defeating you and you claim to be a demon? Alright I will tell you the solution to all problems. Cleave it with something sharp. Surely you have something sharp. Still I doubt you are a demon. A harmless creature, but a demon has powers. Show me what you have and I might believe you.”

When he talked about cleaving he had pulled his sword and smashed into the ground cleaving a hole into the dirt to make a point. He kept his sword out looking at her. If she had demon powers he would see them soon. If not he would have to feed slower. He pondered what to do with her, but then he thought of that one spot. It had been dark and small, but his power shard was down there. He would have her fetch it and he wouldn’t have to look for an alternate path.

If she showed demon powers enough she would probably feel a bit sick as he tried to siphon off some of the demonic energy. If she fought off the siphon she would feel nothing.

If she didn’t show much he just let her be. Regardless he started with his plan.

“Come to think of it I think there is something you can do for me get up you little thing. Wait you don’t like being called a thing, you aren’t strong enough for a name, … then maybe treating you like a pathetic dog will do for you. Come dog we are going to take a walk. If you don’t I shall practice my one solution to all my problems on you.” He pointed his sword to make the point and directed her down a path towards the hole that contained the shard of his true power. He readied himself to stop any attempt to run, or even the off chance that she would attack him. He didn’t care it wasn’t like he was going to let her live after this anyways.

She had actually forgotten about the little dagger she had in her bag. She wanted to prove to him that she was a demon, but she had no idea how to prove that. She had no idea what kinds of powers she had, or what kinds she might develop. All she knew, was that she could shapeshift into an alternate form, but that didn’t entirely show that she was a demon. The ability to shift one’s shape could be within any werecreature or shapeshifter.

Just as she was reaching for her dagger, the stranger slashed his sword into the ground, making her jump and quickly turn her attention to the blade. Her breathing became shallow for a few moments, but then she quickly grabbed her dagger out of her bag, and cut the weed away, standing up once her ankle was free. She sheathed her dagger again, putting it back into her bag. She looked up at him, shielding her eyes from the sun. “I don’t like you.” She said quietly, warily stepping away from him.

She didn’t like the way he spoke to her. It was even worse than the way her master treated her during training. At least her master never called her a pathetic dog. That was just downright wrong. She learned that she was nothing like a dog. She was cursed with some strange fox / wolf genes, so her master helped her get her natural form back. There was no way she’d put up with being called a dog. “My name is Rimmon!” she told him, hoping that he’d call her by her actual name now.

“I’m not going anywhere with you!” she yelled, crossing her arms, not having noticed his attempt to siphon off her demonic energy. She couldn’t help but get really nervous whenever he moved his sword. He obviously knew how to move it around with ease, and the last thing she wanted was to get her head chopped off. She didn’t understand that he just threatened her. Soon, she uncrossed her arms and continued stepping away from him. If he stepped toward her, she’d turn around and run as quickly as her little legs would carry her across the terrain. She didn’t have any issues keeping her balance, and she had a lot of practice with running, so she ran a lot faster than any other kid would.

Zelothtith smiled in a cruel way as he raised his sword as he moved towards her. “I see doggy has a little name. Still you are a dog that needs to learn when to obey its betters.” When she ran the smile just got worse and he ran after her. He was trying to get ahead so he could smash his sword into the ground to stop her running in that direction. His longer legs helped with this. If he needed to, he would herd how ever he could to the location he wanted. Otherwise he would just order her towards the place, once she was sufficiently frightened of his sword strikes.

Once there she would be trapped amongst fallen ruble that would be easy to climb over. “Now then you Rim dog I just want you to do something a thing or two for me. Once you do you can go run off with your tail between your legs. Do we have a deal or will I get to experiment on you with my sword on you for a time. It does love the taste of blood so much.” It was true his sword loved blood and would consume it with greed as it tried to recover its true form, just like him. Still he would prefer to get this little worthless creature to retrieve something of far more worth to him. Of course once she retrieved any shards that were there he would still kill her. He was a demon and he never had to keep his word, especially to someone this weak.

She kept running, steering herself away from him anytime he got close. The first time he slashed his sword down in front of her, she stopped as quickly as she possibly could, then got herself back up and kept running. However, she got so caught up on running away from him that she wasn’t actually paying attention to notice he was herding her in the direction of something. Next thing she knew, she was trapped amongst fallen rubble. She turned to face him, feeling angrier than anything else now. She did not like this demon, and she was determined to not do anything for him.

It had slipped her mind that she needed to have some more of her drink to keep up her cat-like appearance, so her natural demon form started coming out now. Slowly but surely, her tail turned from a thin, cat’s tail to a long, furry tail that looked something like a wolf’s tail, but it was much too long to be a wolf’s tail. At this point, she’d much rather just run off with her tail between her legs, but one thought came back to her... something her father had caught her long ago... never run away, no matter the circumstances. However, she really didn’t want that sword touching her, and the only other choice seemed to be doing whatever this demon wanted.

As she stood there, glaring at him, she didn’t even notice that her cat-like ears disappeared and she got her human ears back. Her eyes turned dark as night with a sliver of green-ish blue colour in them, and she said, “I’ll only do it if you’ll leave me alone after.” She said, standing still and ready to move if she had to. “What do you want?” she asked, swaying her tail back and forth as she awaited instruction.

Zelothtith was interested now that a demonic side was appearing, but it wasn’t too strong yet he only got a slight pull of demonic power and he wanted more. First though he had to get the shard. “Alright then we have an agreement. Now I need you to go into this hole about a mile in you should be near what I want. It will be a fragment of stone and it will be attracted to this.” He pulled off a piece of his skin a thumb wide. He didn’t bleed, but it seemed to be just wrong on many levels. “Now go the faster you find it the faster you can be finished.”

He motioned her to the hole and had her go down it. It would be cramped and dark and probably not smell that nice the farther she go down. There would be small openings where she could stand up for a bit, but all had no way back. Even at the end she was in a caved in hall way of some building that had been absolutely massive. Ancient carvings could be seen and the air would smell stale and old. There was only a pin prick of light in this room too. To top it all off strange sound kept echoing as if there was something still there, but every time she looked she could find nothing.

Finding Zelothtith’s shard would probably take a while the shard would actually be a large one almost an inch long, but very thin. It wouldn’t break though. Once she did she would see a ghostly image of an elven mage clearly before her. “I wouldn’t take that to that demon. Trapped as he is he is fine, but with power he could do horrible things again. He is heartless and cruel and you may find yourself dead as soon as you hand him what he wants. Ask questions quickly I do not have much time in this place.” The phantom hovered there looking tired beyond belief, but he seemed hopeful too. It radiated an ancient magic that seemed to be protecting the shard as it came from an aura around the strange stone. It seemed to be calming and friendly energy, but her demon side probably found it a bit itchy, but no more than that.

This was definitely not something she ever wanted to do again. She couldn't help but feel like the whole place was going to collapse in on her the whole time she was inside this rubble. Even in the spots where she could stand up, she just kept going so that she would get this done and overwith a lot faster. She protected the flab of skin inside her fist as she crawled through the hole, trying to ignore how disgusting it felt to touch. She did her best to ignore the stench that grew worse and worse.

Just over a mile of crawling, and she finally found herself in an enormous caved in room. Her eyes liked the darkness, so it was easy for her to adjust. She opened up her fist and held out the flab of skin infront of her as she searched for this stone piece. An hour of crawling, and it must have been at least another hour of searching in this room, but she finally did find it. She immediately picked it up, dropping the flab of skin on the ground. Rimmon couldn't help but stare at it for a bit, feeling her demon side get a little excited at the power this thing held.

When she broke herself from the trance a few moments later, she looked up and saw some elf guy that seemed to be hovering above the ground. She listened to him carefully, then asked right away, "How do I get away from him without giving him the shard? He'll kill me if I don't give this to him." she briefly held up the shard, then quickly put it back into her backpack. She didn't exactly have any other questions right now, and she really hoped she asked the right one, but then as she looked around, she also asked, "And how do I get out of here?" she watched the elven mage cautiously, really hoping he could help her out of this mess. If only he had more time here... however, she didn't exactly want to wait around to see this place collapse in around her.

The mage smiled in a kindly way and bent down to her level. Putting a ghostly hand on her head in what would normally be a friendly fashion. However, it probably felt a little tingly or cold, but no sensation of being touched. “Well those are certainly enough questions. To get out push on the stones over there, they are looser than they seem and will get you to a passage. How to escape is harder, just run as fast as you can down the corridor and up the first set of stairs you see. They will take you outside near a deep rift in the ruins. There is some water running down that rift at the bottom. Go there and when you see that demon just throw the fragment into that rift. It will probably distract him enough for you to r…….”

The phantom faded away before he could finish, but a slight glow was left behind on the stones he had pointed out. The glow was fading, leaving the little demon alone again.

Meanwhile Zelothtith was pacing around wondering what was going on. He couldn’t feel that morsel or his power moving closer. He was impatient and his sword was almost growling for fresh blood again. The thing was never sated, but it was a starving beast these days. Still that piece of skin would follow that morsel a good distance and if she started coming out or moving his power fragment away from him he would chase her down. A chase, just added flavor to the meal after all. He smiled and his shadow cackled with him.

She watched the ghostly figure closely, listening to his response. When he said he didn’t have much time, she figured he’d at least fully answer her questions. However, after he started explaining how to get away from the demon, he faded away. She gave a look of frustration at the space in front of her where the mage previously stood, then walked over to the pile of stones that were glowing lightly. She let her adrenaline build up, trying to save her energy for running away from the demon.

As soon as the stones were pushed out of the way, she jumped over the remaining stones, and into the passage that the mage had spoken of. However, as soon as she started into that passage, it started to cave in, as if those stones were somehow holding it all up. She ran as fast as she could, looking behind her every now and then to see how close she was to getting crushed by the earth. She continued running, seeing an opening ahead, hoping it was the set of stairs that the mage was talking about. The dirt was starting to collapse beside her as well as behind her, so she pushed herself forward still, turning into the stairs as quickly as she could without getting snatched away by the dirt.

She couldn’t help but smile as she saw sunlight at the top of the stairs. Soon enough, she could hear the rift that the mage also spoke of. She slowed down, seeing that the passage wasn’t collapsing around her now. At least something was still holding up this corridor. She took a moment to grab the shard out of her backpack, making sure to be really quiet about it, just in case the demon was nearby. She was holding the stone shard in her left hand now, but both fists looked like she wasn’t holding anything. If she gripped the shard any tighter than she already was, it would probably end up cutting her skin.

Once the child placed her backpack straps over her shoulders again, she took a breath, trying to ease her breathing, then bolted forward, following the rift to where the mage said to go. Meanwhile, she watched for the demon, holding the shard so that she could easily throw it into the water when she knew he was watching.

Zelothtith was not happy when he felt a slight rumble and even less so when he felt his shard moving away. It was at an odd angle and at a good speed. He moved quickly running through ruins the best he could. He had a feeling something had happened down there he wasn’t aware of. Regardless it meant his tasty little morsel was running away from him and with power that was right fully his.

As he ran he felt more rumbles and jumped a small pit opening up from a collapse somewhere below. It took him a bit, but he spotted the little creature on the edge of a rift. He could feel his power strongly and he needed it. It was calling to him. Every scrap of his being wanted that power back as it was a strong piece. Still the little morsel was holding it as if she was ready to do something. ‘Maybe she had some power after all. No matter fear will keep her in check.’ “Alright you little filthy dog of a creature give that to me or I spend the next nine weeks tearing out your guts and leaving you alive for whatever finds your mutilated body. If you hand it over your death will be short and painless.”

He twitched with his sword out and his shadow danced almost separating from his body, but not quite able to. She would get the feeling that the shadow would almost tear her apart like the man if it could. Still when she threw the fragment away he would give a snarl and charge towards her. If she got out of the way of the initial wide, but crushing sword blow he would jump off the edge after his fragment. A large splash would be heard when he reached the bottom. If she looked over the side she could see him being pulled down river a bit before jamming his sword into the side of the rift and starting to climb back out. He looked angry, but grasped the fragment which glowed black and seemed to just flow into him. At that moment there would be a spark of demonic energy that would probably scare her quite a bit, but it would vanish in a split second. It would probably take him a long time to get back up or would at least give her some time to try and escape.

She jumped slightly when he came into her line of sight. This was definitely one thing that she would never get herself into ever again. Well, this would be the second thing she’d always avoid. Slavery was initially the one thing she’d avoid... but, that kind of got shot to hell...

Despite his words, she still threw the shard down the rift, aiming for the spot that the shard would travel the fastest in the water. Next thing she knew, he swung his sword at her at amazing speed. She dropped herself to the ground as quickly as gravity would allow, pausing in shock when she felt the race of wind gallop across her.

After he jumped after the shard, she couldn’t help but look over the edge, and saw that he was being pulled down river. However, moments later, the most horrifying sight reached her eyes. He was climbing back out. Her heart almost hurt with the adrenaline that now pulsed through her. She had to rip her eyes away from the sight in order to get back up and start running for her life.

She shapeshifted into her demon form, which looked like a mix between a fox and a wolf, with two very long tails. Her coat was a little strange, coloured grey, red, and a soft gold with subtle striping. Four legs ran a lot faster than two, so she pushed herself as much as she could, not daring to look behind her. She still ran, looking for the way she had entered the ruins so that she could run the path that she recognized, but she just ended up getting into the thicker part of the ruins, getting even more lost. She shapeshifted back into her human form, and quickly hid in a little cave, keeping to the shadows. She calmed her breathing to the point that she couldn’t even hear herself breathing, and kept very still, not daring to move. She kept her eyes on the only entrance to the little cave she was in, rarely blinking.

Zelothtith slowly climbed up the side of the rift. The rock dug into his hands, but they weren't his real hands so he didn't care. This body could die in a way, but he never would die completely. At least no one knew how to end him for good. That was his secret. Still the climb tired him and reaching the top he noticed the little creature had fled from him. He could feel a faint residue of the power, but it was hard to feel which way it went.

"Darn that thing. I will hunt it down and kill it for that act. She almost lost me that shard and it is troublesome that there is yet another one in these ruins. If she finds it she will surely hide it from me again."

He forced his body to move, but it was an ugly thing now. It was torn and bleeding and it looked like a shoulder bone fragment was clearly visible, jutting out through his torn skin. That arm should move, but it still did in a jerky fashion. It did not look like the body was healing either, just continuing to move well past the point it should have died. He walked on moving through the ruins searching for the tiny demon.

He would spend some time near where she was, but didn't look in all, but she would probably have the feeling he almost knew where she was. All the time he was muttering curses at her. Still after some time he stalked off or appeared to leave the area. The silent wind the only thing going through the ruins.

OOC: Good grief I used the wrong account again ah well.

Her heart raced when she saw the demon pacing around the area looking for her. It felt like he knew she was in the general area, but even if he didn’t, she certainly did not want to stick around and wait for him to find her. So, after she saw him leave the area, she slowly crept out of the little cave she was hiding in, making sure to move really slowly so that she didn’t make any noise. The last thing she wanted was to be trapped in this cave, giving the demon VIP seating to watch his sword slay her. When he was no longer in sight, she moved out of the cave more, tip toeing in the opposite direction that she saw him go.

The further away she was from the cave, the quicker she moved, looking around her constantly. It wasn’t too long before she stepped on a couple of twigs, the snapping sound echoing off the ruin walls. She jumped at the sound, immediately moving her feet off the twigs, and looking around. After a moment, she bolted off through the ruins, still trying to find the way she entered the whole area.

Only a couple more turns, and she suddenly caught sight of him again. The child stopped in her tracks, her body freezing at the sight of the demon. She had done so much running now, that her muscles were much too tired to keep trying to get away. When her energy was fresh and she tried running, she wasn’t nearly fast enough. So, there certainly wasn’t any chance of her getting away now. Instead of hiding again, she stayed where she was, keeping her breathing smooth, despite that she was in plain sight if he did so much as turn his head...
