Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The name is Osiris. I'm a freelancer by trade. I scour the land for work--just to make a living. Unlike you, I can't remember my past, the entire thing is a complete blank. I have traveled for nearly seven years on my own and look where it leads me too, the ruins of Taras, a place even more sad than my memory loss.

As unfortunate as it appears to myself, I have to work together for once. I have been hired by a rather strange character. That doesn't matter though, what is important is that Sebastian; the blue brute that I have to work with, and myself retrieve the book that is, according to the contractor, vital to the reconstruction of Taras.

I myself do not see how this book can be vital to the reconstruction of a city, but if money is involved then you can count me in for any job. The contractor, what was his name? Aodhan, I believe, said that we should first stop by the only surviving building in the ruins; the Library. He mentioned that we should search through the old librarians records and find out where the book was last located.

It all seems easy enough, but for how long?

Unfortunate.

A squelching noise was followed by a spurt of sticky red blood. A splash of it caught the cuff of Sebastian's coat, and he sighed, watching the stranger's face suddenly seize, a steel-blue frost spreading up from the chin. He pulled his dagger free of the bleeding throat, and it made a metallic crunching noise as it was ejected from the hardened wound. The man's throat was frozen solid; trails of frost were visible, crisscrossing the mottled flesh like thick, silver veins, clotted and feathery around the edges of the wound.

He wiped off the blood on the now dead man's shirt, and released his grip from his shoulder, allowing him to fall with a muffled thud to the ground. Sebastian concealed his knife beneath his coat. He was hasty to leave the scene.

He had a date with a man named Osiris. He was to be his partner in a mission. He wasn't given many details, but they were being made to retrieve an artifact, a book, from the ruins of Taras. Sebastian, being a bounty hunter, was spending his downtime making some extra money on the side, hence the fresh corpse on the curb.

It wouldn't be long before he was to meet with his partner. He shuffled through scattered work camps throughout the ruined city, not stopping to watch volunteers scurry back and forth in and between their camps. He was rather reluctant to perform the task he'd been hired to do. It sounded like the task itself would be difficult, a lot of movement and guesswork, and not a lot of action, but at the same time, he was interested in this book that was so necessary to the reconstruction of Taras. He questioned the validity of his employer, but he had to see this tome for himself.

The Library was Osiris's first destination, the place where Sebastian and himself were to rendezvous. It would serve as the base of the entire mission. Many records would have to be searched through and only one of them would lead them to the book. The Library itself was easily visible from Osiris's position, it didn't matter where you stood in the ruins, it was the only thing left standing.

Osiris picked his way through the many work camps throughout the ruined city; the place was a mess. Guards stood at attention, keeping a wary eye out for any sign of an ambush. They all watched Osiris as he continued walking towards his destination. One of them whispered something to another guard, pointing towards Osiris's direction. They began to follow him, getting closer and closer as each second passed. Osiris thought it would be best if he hurried along. With all of his strength Osiris began running at a full sprint, jumping over debris, turning corners sharply, and swerving to avoid the workers. He could here the sound of chainmail from behind, the guards were running after him, but the noise became more and more distant.

Looking around, Osiris noticed that he had finally arrived at the entrance to the library. He could here the sound of a few people yelling in the distance, but he was safe for the time being. The doors to the Library were rather large, made of thick oak and steel. Osiris pushed the doors open and stared into the darkness.

"Great! Nobody home..."

Sebastian was running now; his hit had been messier than he'd hoped. Someone had seen him, and now he had the whole damned provisional guard after him. And worse, they were gaining. It would be a lie to say that Sebastian lacked stamina, but he wasn't the best sprinter. He could move a long ways, but this was only to make up for a lack of speed. His only hopes of avoiding a mortally unbalanced fight would be to outlast the guard, and despite their heavy chain armor and reckless, unpaced charging after him, he still wondered if he'd be able to outrun them long enough to tire them out.

Somewhere ahead, he heard shouting. He was moving towards the library, and he knew there was no way reinforcements could be coming from that way. Not so quickly, anyway. If one of the guard had slipped away to inform a superior of Sebastian's delinquency, it would have taken much longer to have reached ears on the other side of the library. He didn't worry much about the noises ahead of him. For now, the clanging mail, stomping feet, and heaving breaths behind him were all he needed to worry about.

He curses silently as he saw the ruins of the library ahead of him, a once magnificent building in shambles, a collapsing spire of stone and brick reached into the gray, bleak sky, and Sebastian imagined the inside of the tower lines with sagging, spiraling shelves of old, blackened tomes, some of them still barely intact, surviving the hellfire that ravaged most of Taras' buildings during the invasion.

Now that the library was in sight, Sebastian would have no choice but to fight, and to pray that his partner was ready to do the same. He shot a glance over his shoulders, giving the guards at his tail an impromptu assessment.

It seemed some of their number had fallen off, as there were now only four of the iron-clad policemen. Luckily, they seemed in pretty bad shape already. They were panting and huffing as they gave chase, their faces red and twisted with strain. At the same time, he knew that the four remaining guardsmen were the more athletic of the original pursuers, and then, despite their fatigue, in number and expertise, they would prove a match for both Sebastian and Osiris.

He noticed the slim figure of Osiris ahead of him, a silhouette set against the backdrop of the demolished library's entrance. He allowed himself to laugh lowly. Perhaps luck was in his favor today.

It wasn't long before Sebastian arrived to the scene along with four guards who were chasing his tail. The guards appeared worn out and tired, probably from chasing after Sebastian. This was good. Osiris was only warmed up from his short sprint to lose the guards who had been chasing him not but ten minutes earlier. Osiris smiled as the newcomers arrived.

"Did you have to bring an entire squad of soldiers with you Sebastian? They look hungry for a fight!" Osiris said sarcastically. "Really though, I wish you had shaken them before arriving. Now we are going to have to spill some unnecessary blood." Osiris quickly looked over his opponents. "Alright, lets do this!"

Osiris swung his spear up around in an arc and down from his shoulder, setting the lantern that was hanging from the end on the ground. The lantern was precious to Osiris. It was one of the few things he had on his person after he had lost his memory. It had served him well as he traveled throughout the land, producing light in the darkest of places.

After having set down the lantern Osiris swung the spear tip towards the closest opponent and charged at him. The guards attention was focused on Sebastian which created the perfect opportunity to strike. When Osiris neared the soldier clad in chainmail he swung his spear around in a spiraling motion, lodging the blade just under the soldiers rib cage. The soldier grunted, but the blow wasn't enough to kill him. He drew his sword and stabbed at Osiris. Shifting his weight to his right foot Osiris twisted his body around, barely dodging the opponents thrust and dislodging his spear at the same time. There was just enough time to thrust his spear upwards and into the soldiers chest, this time it was a killing blow.

Sebastian's blades were drawn with surprising agility for the guards, who suspected he wasn't much of a fighter. He didn't spare the time to reply to his partner.

He pivoted to intercept the spear of the nearest guard, who had hoped to have cornered him. Two blades came down on the shaft of the spear, slapping it aside. Rather than thrusting at the guard, Sebastian had sense enough to step backwards, avoiding an incoming pike from one of the remaining three guards.

Sebastian's eye caught the one that Osiris had already fallen and he sighed: a waste of blood. He had no time to admire the fresh corpse, however, for without much hesitation, the two guards had recomposed themselves and were upon him again.

He danced gracefully as cruel, darting spearheads came at him, his twinkling bluish blades in a neutral position. He waited for a determinate opening from one of the two guards, but found that he could only avoid them for so long. They would corner him eventually, and he couldn't afford to keep his attention away from the third guard, or Osiris. He wasn't sure if he could depend on his partner to keep the third man out of his hair.

He let out a quiet yelp as a speartip pierced his clothing, slashing the skin on his belly, a close call. He brought his blade down to parry a following jab. The blood running down his stomach was an unsettling feeling, but he considered himself lucky; any closer and his innards would have been gouged.

His left-hand's blade flung forward, aiming at one of the guards' throats. He missed, but the guard had to throw his balance off to avoid the sword. Sebastian's right-hand came up next, blocking the other guard as he struck like a cobra, dropping the sword from his left hand and replacing it swiftly with the knife at his breast. His right sword swirled a half arc and came under his target's, the unbalanced soldier, guard, batting his spear away harmlessly, before his left hand came at his throat, piercing it just above his chainmail.

Another familiar squelching noise reached Sebastian's ears, and he smirked his satisfaction.

...Unfortunate indeed.
