| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Kaess walked through the ruins of Taras escorting a supply of wood, building materials and the construction works to the site of where they had been assigned to work. They were escorting about fifty workers though it was said more might or might not be coming as people joined the effort to revive Taras. Thus there were many other guards besides him and Shalia, though he doubted that many had their skill. A few did look good though and the rest would learn. It had been a few days back when his old merchant friend had told him of the job. Taras being rebuilt was something he had to contribute to. There were too many horrible memories of that time not to help with the reconstruction. He had brought Shalia along as he thought helping people might help her as well. Help out with this project might get her to see that there was more to people than she seemed to think. They passed burnt out buildings heading for the foundation of a large structure that used to have been a massive theater. He had flown over the site earlier to scout it out and there was now nothing left but rubble and a somewhat circular foundation. Everything else was burned and the surrounding buildings were crumbling. It seemed there would be a lot of work just clearing the area out. He and Shalia being part of the escort would have to search through a lot of that rubble to make sure it was safe, but there was enough open space near what used to have been the main road for that part of the city to set up camp. The road had held up fairly well and they only had to stop a few times to clear things out of the way for the carts to get through. He walked up to Shalia as the scouted camp site came into view. Soon the entire place would be busy with people setting things up and getting ready for the hard work ahead. There were plenty of different people and guards here, so he thought maybe they should scout out the ruins more thoroughly today. “So Shalia do you want to stay here and help set up camp or shall we volunteer to scout the area today?” It still amazed him he remembered her name it was so odd knowing a name. He had never remembered one before. It made her all the more fascinating. Still he tried to keep such thoughts at bay since he didn’t think she would respond well or at all to such feeling yet. The time of day was high noon and most had eaten lunch as they walked. Munching whatever rations they had on them at the moment or what was passed to them from within the group. Everyone looked strong and hardy, so they should do alright as long as nothing to disastrous came their way. ‘Though I suppose that is what I am here to prevent.’ |

The tiefling had no idea why she let Kaess talk her into this. Coming to Taras to help rebuild it? The city that was destroyed by demons. And she, who was of demon blood herself was her to help in its rebirth. She could only imagine what could go wrong here. When Kaess came up to ask her what she wanted to do, she merely shrugged. “It matters not to me,” she replied. “I don’t even know why I let you convince me to come to this place. Someone like me should not even be within a hundred miles of this place. Your foolishness must be contagious.” The normal workers did not seem to give her much heed as she looked human enough not to draw too much suspicion. But there were a few clerics or paladins that sent glares her way. Which she returned in kind. She could not stand paladins in the least. They always had that annoying holy aura about them, it made her skin itch like mad! “Why should I even be here?” she demanded of Kaess. “Was this place not destroyed by demons? I have demon blood, anyone of these foolish holy warriors may decide to attack me in fear I will attack first. Also if we rebuild what is to stop it from being attacked again? If demons destroyed this place once, what is to stop them from attack while we rebuild? This paltry force here could not even hold of a demon scouting squad, let alone a full force attack!” |

Kaess sighed and decided scouting would be best. "I guess we will scout then and we can talk while we walk." He moved on into the ruins looking around for movement or signs of something odd. "As for why you are here well you chose to come did you not. Just because you have demon blood does not mean you are one. You are helping and protecting and if anyone thinks about attacking you they will go through me. I can disarm most of them faster than they can think. None of them would last long in a fight against you or me that long and would learn a good lesson as well. Plus it will be their own fault if they fight their own ally, it is a sign of a them being stupid warrior. Other guards will make sure they don't forget it too. He found himself saying the words about protecting her with out thinking, but regretted it shortly afterward. She probably would take it the wrong way... darn it I just can't say what I mean. He also spoke from experience on the guards as several stupid soldiers had thought the half dragon needed skinning as an abomination of nature. Once taught a lesson few ever tried again for fear of further embarrassment. Yes it was destroyed by demons. However, most have been killed and scattered since that time and you can't let the past control things. What is important is that you keep moving forward and these people have chosen to do that by reviving this city. Anything can happen in this universe, but I doubt a large demon army will come again anytime soon. There is no evidence to support there would be and plenty to support that there isn't, with scouting parties and many mages checking the area. Though I will admit that a bit of caution is wise. My instincts are unsure of our mysterious backer. If the worst comes to pass as you suggest I suppose I will buy as much time as I can for people to escape so in the future others can try to bring this great city back again. He continued moving through the rubble finding and sensing nothing yet. The place looked deserted as deserted could be. He could see a few plants here and there which had started covering some of the abandoned houses. The place was clearly not tainted at least. It actually seemed like some of the rubble wasn't as bad as he first thought. Maybe construction would go faster than he expected. Edited by redfiver, Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:04 am.

Shalia scoffed as Kaess spoke. “Having demon blood does not make me one? That’s like saying an elf with black skin and white hair is not a drow. I am what I am, there is no need to deny that.” She then shot him a murderous glare as he spoke on. Was he trying to say he was going to *protect* her. “Listen here you overgrown lizard,” she hissed. “I do not need nor do I want your protection. I would advise you put aside such ‘noble’ intentions else you find that the one you wish to protect will be sticking a blade in your back.” The threat was a clear and very real one. She did not want to be protected. Only the weak needed protection. And if you always protected others, they would never learn to protect themselves. And if you did not know how to protect yourself in hell…you would not live long, for there was no one to protect you. “Of course the demons summoned during the fight may be gone,” she said, the anger still apparent in her voice. “But what of their summoners? From what I have heard, those people still live. And you don’t think a demon army will come again? I doubt that. The chance to cause death and destruction is all the reason a demon needs to go marching to war. Throw in a whole city to tear apart, and well you will have your demon hoard.” She followed Kaess shaking her head. She still could not understand how in the nine hells she had come here. She was a fool to have let him talk her into this. The tiefling kept a sharp eye out and a hand on her sword ready to kill anything that so much as waved a butter knife at her. |

“You may have blood, but you aren’t a demon. A half elf is not an elf you know. I am not a dragon am I? And I have dragon blood. As for protection I meant no disrespect, forgive me for insulting you. However, you should realize there is an advantage in numbers. Having help is not a weakness. Relying on help is. You can have help and that can give you time to learn and grow stronger. Can you honestly say you could handle everyone who might dislike you in this camp alone? You may need my assistance for now and maybe in the future I may need yours. Think of such things as services for future benefits and if you just try it you may find there are unexpected benefits to this way of life as well. Still if you don’t like it I suppose you should stab me right now as I can’t help it. It is just my nature and I don’t have a wish to change it. Go ahead I won’t dodge if you truly want to do it.” He truly did look like he left himself open to her. Even if she raised her weapon to the point where even he couldn’t have dogged, he didn’t flinch. Even if she drew blood he wouldn’t care. He could heal his body easily, but a soul was difficult. He felt trust was the best way to show her there was more to life. She would probably think him an even greater fool, but that was acceptable. They were closing in on about the half-way point on their scouting mission and he still saw nothing of interest. Just more crumbling buildings and stone work scattered here and there. He even spotted a few flowers. He then responded to her next statement. “It may be true that those people are still alive, but many here are strong and on guard for just such a thing. Still there are many threats beyond just demons to the people here. They have survived over time and they will survive again. I suppose building here again is a way of showing their determination and defiance to the force set against the progress of life and happiness. Even if the threat is large, life must take the chance and keep moving forward. It is how great places are built and how legends are born. Hope is probably the greatest motivator in life.” He continued walking the entire time. Keeping similar readiness to Shalia for any danger coming from the ruins, though it seemed it was unneeded at the moment. Edited by redfiver, Thu Sep 16, 2010 3:02 am.

“Yet the world still deems tieflings as demons. For we have demonic powers and can become even more powerful than our demon ancestors. I may be weakened at the moment since I slew my master, but he had blocked my true powers from surfacing. With time I shall become more power than I was when it was his power I used,” she said. “Demon blood runs stronger than any other I have encountered.” When he exposed himself to her she merely scoffed. Every word and deed he did only proved to her how much of a fool he truly was. It amazed her that someone this foolish had lived long enough to grow this powerful. Perhaps this world merely was not as dangerous as the one she had come from. For were he in hell, she had no doubts he would have been killed a century ago. “Your foolishness never seizes to amaze me,” she said, her voice dripping in venom. “How exactly did you live over a century without getting killed? Luck? Skill? Or someone protecting you?” She walked on past him. At his next words she merely shook her head. This was something she just did not understand. Why were people so determined to rebuild what had been lost? To only loose it again? They seemed to truly think one could rise up from the ashes like a phoenix. But did they not know that same phoenix is destine to die in flames once more? And happiness? What was that? She had never been happy in her life. And from what she could tell those who were ‘happy’ were merely naive of the dangers of the world or we lucky enough to have never had their hopes trampled or imprisoned for most their life. |

Kaess sighed as it sometimes felt like an uphill battle. How much farther would he have to go? He threw up his hands “You know just because someone believes something doesn’t make it true. Put a little effort into getting to know them and they get to know you. Once they know you they tend not to care about your race or form as much. You can even change people’s opinions about races if you work hard enough. Surely you have seen the power that ideas can have.” He glanced to the side noticing some movement, but it looked no larger than a rat. “As to how I survived this long, well luck certainly has a role in everyone’s life so I must have some. Still I mostly survived on my own, sometimes others would aid me. In part that is how I learned many of my skills. Many times other people can teach you things you can’t even imagine by yourself or they speed up learning something. It is much like you are learning the Burning Fist from me. Just teaching you is teaching me new things too. However, the bulk is still mostly just me and learning a little bit with each experience in life. In that time I have learned to judge people through my instincts and well I trust you. Can’t really explain it, but my instinct has yet to be wrong. And it wasn’t wrong this time now was it?” He smiled in a joking way at Shalia. At the same time he left himself open to her, but only her. He noticed small movements again and without breaking a stride or shifting his gaze from her, his eyes moved slightly to tell her what he had seen. He seemed a bit more ready for battle as well. “Still I leave myself open to you. I hope that someday you may find out what it means to be happy… I” He then moved forward quickly catching a small red creature in his grip. It was an imp from the look of it. The annoying pranksters were not horribly deadly, but they could be devastating when in numbers. After capturing the first he saw others break out from hiding laughing at their friend now caught. Several gave little squeals as they launched some sort of magic at them both. The magic was extremely hard to dodge and Kaess snapped the head of the imp he was holding as he tried to dodge the spell. When the spell hit him his clothes started to shrink getting tighter on him with each passing moment. He was just glad that monk robes were a little loose to start with. His blood was boiling and he knew he was channeling a counter to the spell fired at them. It was soon let loose, but his clothes already had some rips, but they weren’t falling off at least. Letting the dead imp fall from his grasp his hands equipped his claws quickly and he was ready to fight and kill these pests. They just laughed at them and several looked ready to cast more spells. |

The foolish half-dragon had already angered Shalia. Then the imps showed up. She had always hated the pesky little demons. They loved jokes and found great pleasure find people to try their latest tricks out on. This time they had chosen the wrong person to play their jokes on. She felt her clothing getting tight. Must be some sort of shrinking spell. Her pants became tight and began to tear at the seams a little. Her top, which was already much tighter than her pants, ripped loudly and fell to the ground in rags. A normal woman would have screamed and quickly covered herself up to such exposure, but Shalia was not phased by this at all. Her raven hair turned scarlet red as she rushed at the imps, sword drawn. “Time for you to die you annoying little monsters,” she growled. Several of the imps were too busy laughing at their trick. But one looked up and saw the enraged tiefling coming at them. It was smart enough to know that her threat was a very real one. “Uh oh…” he uttered before jumping into the air furiously flapping its wings to get out of Shalia’s range. But he was a little too late. Her sword cut into the imp’s wing causing it to fall to the ground screaming in pain. This now made the rest of the imps begin to scatter. But she would make them pay for choosing to play a trick on her… |

Kaess let his magic flow freely as he blurred towards a group of imps who launched a fire ball at him in panic. ‘Foolish things, though they were never really that smart.’ He just passed through it letting the flames bend around him. Surprising the imps he moved into a sweeping kick that smashed all, but one of the creatures in his way. He moved to take the last one, but it vanished from his sight and his claws met air. “Darn, though more are around.” He spun around to look for more targets when he saw Shalia scattering a group of them. What he saw stopped him for a moment blushing at the sight of her exposed breasts moving freely. Her pants were at least still on. Though what was shown was distracting in its own way. He knew it didn’t bother her, but it certainly had affected him for a bit. He soon was back into the fight, an imp launching a small magic missile into his shoulder jarring him from his distraction. “Gah can’t get distracted.” The offending imp was soon surprised by Kaess blurring in front of him in the air, where the imp thought he was safe. The imp fell into pieces as Kaess let out a bit of frustration and embarrassment at the situation. He continued to move taking out several imps in the air trying to keep his view away from the lovely Shalia. It was not easy to not look as she was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen, but he managed for the most part. Still it slowed down his fighting a bit. Soon the battle was winding down as they took out the few remaining imps. He hopped they wouldn’t see them again and dug in his bag offering a spare shirt of his. “um… I mean well….. to cover up if you want ... umm...” The entire time he was fighting to keep his eyes from looking too much. He was losing the battle, but he hopped she would take the shirt quickly and put an end to the embarrassment. His blush was bright and clear even through his scales, which was rare. He felt very vulnerable to her just then in an odd way. He wondered if she found it as strange as he did right then. Edited by redfiver, Tue Sep 21, 2010 3:22 am.

The battle only lasted a few moments. A few of the imps got away screaming in terror. Though that really did not matter that much to her. The pesky little things had learned their lesson and would not be trying that trick again anytime soon. It was now she saw the half-dragon gawking at her. She could see that he was blushing even through his golden scales. Apparently he was far more embarrassed about her exposed skin that she was. After fumbling in his bag he offered her a shirt. She took it without a word and slipped it on. The shirt hung a bit loose. But she bent down a picked up a torn piece of her own shirt and tied it beneath her crest to create a makeshift empire waist and fit the shirt better. “Imps….wretched creatures,” she muttered. “They never know who they should not play their pranks on. At least in the hells, they left me alone. Knowing better than to attempt to anger one trained by the doomguards.” Without another word she walked on past Kaess. He might find it odd that she did not mention or seem embarrassed by the fact he had just seen her topless. It really did not matter to her. She was not ashamed of the body like so many on this plane seemed to be. |

Kaess was a bit surprised that she wasn’t even slightly embarrassed about him seeing her topless. He found himself looking despite himself as she took the shirt and thinking about how beautiful they were and she was. It was horribly embarrassing as everything he was said he shouldn’t think that, but his instincts said otherwise. It was the down side of dragon blood as instinct could almost rule over your commonsense at times. He soon followed after as she walked off. He was a bit relieved, but also equally disappointed that she took the shirt. At least it was enough to keep his instincts under control or so he thought. Just watching her from behind, he found that the way she had acted was oddly fascinating. It made him want her more and help her more. His instincts running high and blood still boiling from the battle he couldn’t look away from her. He watched each tantalizing movement and every hint of her beautiful self in the ill-fitting clothes. Though it was the soul he truly loved. Her fiery passion and stubborn nature just attracted him more and more. His blush wouldn’t go away, and his mind was in a slight haze from his dragon blood. It was clear he wanted her, but was holding back due to concern for her. It made for an odd combination as he started to talk. He probably wasn’t even aware he was talking out loud as they walked on. “I must agree wretched creatures and so annoying. They certainly pale in comparison to your skill, which matches your beauty and your beauty surpasses all. You are possibly the beautiful woman I have ever met. A part of me I think is already yours, but I wish to know more and be with you for as long as possible. Which is part of why I want you to be happy, I …. I think it means I have fallen in love with you! Yes I love you!.................” Saying it out loud sounded odd and he suddenly realized what was happening. If he could have he would have blushed even more. They were wrapping around the complex and soon would be back at camp, but thoughts about patrolling were gone as he wondered if she would ignore this, or get angry or laugh or even by the off chance she actually might be the tiniest bit interested in him too. Though he felt his chances were low he still hopped. At the same time he was trying to suppress his blood instincts even more, but it barely affected the haze that made her look like a goddess right now. He didn't realize it, but at that moment he would probably do anything she asked of him. |

Shalia was all too aware of the way Kaess was looking at her. It annoyed her just as much as the imps did. Males, all males, seemed to only act upon their physical desires. She really had yet to meet a man of any race that did act this way. His love confession did little more than earn him a murderous glare. Love? This desire was called love? She somehow doubted that this is what humans spoke of so fondly. Not that she had any fondness for this ‘love’ people spoke of so often. “Love?” she asked, not even trying to hide the mocking anger in her voice. “I doubt I will ever understand this ‘love’ your people speak of so often. Seems like nothing more than a reason to act upon your physical desires without scorn from your holy ones. Well I shall not be the one who gives into your needs. Either you stop thinking with your loins when you look upon me, or I shall publically castrate you.” It was no empty threat. The way she said it, showed that she had acted upon this threat in the past and was not against doing so again. She was no stranger to the pleasures of these physical desires, but she also refused to give into them. Especially with one as foolish as this one. Love? She found the concept of it almost as foolish as the half-dragon himself. |

Kaess considered the options and found right now he didn't really care about that sort of thing. He did want her, but in more than just that way. He found that thought oddly enough strong enough to clear his mind allowing him to gain a minor amount of control of himself. “I will not deny that I desire you, but I would never take someone unwilling to do such acts. Despite this I would dislike if you do what you threaten, but you may do it if you wish. It would not stop me from loving you.” It was strange, but after saying it once it was easier to say again. If she did decide to do it he would let her. “I care not for what god’s think, but I do care what you think. I will do as you ask right now, but I don’t wish to say goodbye. Though I will of course finish any training you want of me first if you ask me to go.” He found he truly didn’t want to say good bye and waited for an answer among the ruins. As soon as she answered he would walk with (or away from her if she had asked him to leave.) and back to camp. Soon he could get some sleep and get his head out of this fog it was in. It didn’t help that his dreams were filled with images of her. The following days were awkward for him and he couldn’t look at Shalia without blushing. Over the next five days the work crews managed to clear away the rubble and started erecting the wooden beams and scaffolding that would support the three story circular theater. It would have one large entrance that stuck out with some stairs to the upper levels. The stage was on the opposite side of this entrance. It was on the beginning of the 6th day there when nails kept disappearing all over the construction site. Shalia and Kaess were part of the group sent out to find out what was causing this. |

Shalia scoffed at his words and just walked past him. He really was nothing but a fool. The sooner she completed his training, and learned the Burning Fist, the soon she could put him behind her. She did not care that he ‘loved’ her, all she wanted from him was his training. “I don’t really care what you do,” she said coldly. “The only reason why I am even speaking to you is because I want your training. Once I am finished here, I doubt I will see you again.” Over the next few days he did not seem to speak to her much, which suited her just fine. She never was one to really trade words after all. The construction seemed to be going well and there was little else going on. It gave her the time she needed to do some training. But the quite time did not last forever, it never did. Seemed like some of the men kept misplacing their items . Now it was up to her and the fool to find out why. The tiefling had a feeling it had something to do with the imps that got away. The annoying little creatures never did learn when it was best to disappear. She followed Kaess as he lead the way, not speaking a single word to him. Her lavender eyes roamed the area, hand on her sword. She was looking for anything out of place, and was ready to kill anything that did not belong. |

Over the days he had gotten better and more in control of himself, but he knew he couldn’t take back his words. Her words had hurt him at the time, but he saw it as an inevitable thing. She was just too locked away right now. How would he ever expect her to understand feelings that were so alien to her? He was willing to wait though. He had hundreds of years and eventually he might make a dent in her cold armor. Still he hopped it would take less than hundreds of years. They walked in awkward silence. He watched things carefully trying not to look at her. Just the sight seemed to confuse his emotions. He was still wondering what to talk about when they found a trail. It was an odd trail as there were odd things like a polka doted mushroom or a rock floating in the air next to a nail. Several others joined them including, a female cleric in chain mail, a male paladin who looked like he spent too much time polishing his armor, and a twin elven rangers. They didn’t say much as they were focused on the strange path, but it was clear the paladin didn’t like Shalia much. Kaess found he didn’t like the paladin much either. One of them including Kaess would stop a times to examine thing to make sure there weren’t traps hidden among things. When they came to a burnt out house it seemed like they had reached their goal. There were boxes of nails all over the place, but before anyone could inspect things a light flashed out from the door engulfing them all. Kaess reacted quickly, but it seemed like the light had been harmless, except he felt odd. There was a strange weight on his chest that had almost thrown him off blance and when he looked down he saw breasts. They were larger than even Shalia’s and were almost impractical. He had turned into a girl, though he was still muscular for the most part. His face was a bit more human too. The others in the group had also swapped genders, but their bodies were all over exaggerated in ways that would slow them down, especially the Paladin who seemed to have shrunk and was barely able to move in the armor s/he wore. As they all struggled to get a hold of themselves a small army of imps poured out the building and started to attack them. With small light attacks that would have been ignored if there weren’t so many of them. Kaess new he wouldn't be able to dispel this right away either. This was more than a normal imp or even a group this large should have been capable of. |
